About Gladys
Gladys Simen is a life coach for moms who are trying to balance their work and family life.
She is a life enthusiast who has lived in 5 different countries and mastered 2 languages. She was in a position where she had to have two personalities: strict and serious at work, and free and happy at home because she worked in an English corporate job with a lot of specific expectations. After moving to Canada and becoming a mom, she began to advocate for what she believed in, looking for the best way to be an exceptional example for her kids. It took becoming a fabulous mama for her to tap into some BIG superpowers within herself. Superpowers like staying present in the moment, being courageous, and advocating for herself and others. Now, she is passionate about helping women live big, beautiful, shooting-for-the-stars kind of lives…right now. Not in 10 years. Not when the kids are grown. Not after that promotion finally comes around. Right. Now. Gladys considers herself an advocate for the working mama! She loves sharing her own stories about her journey to balance home and work life, and loves supporting fellow working mothers on their journeys.

It is hard being a mom, especially a single mom. Everything falls in your lap. You are there 24/7 for your kids and you rarely get any breaks. Every bump, bruise, and boo-boo falls in your lap. It is up to you to help your children through every major life event and celebrate each milestone. As much as you love your children, sometimes you may feel like "this isn't fair".
No one plans to be a single mom, yet it happens over and over again. My guest today, Shannika Mothersill is very familiar with what happens when the best-laid plans don't go as you thought they would. In this episode, Shannika is very candid about her single motherhood experiences, the challenges she faced, and how she overcome them.
Shannika shares:
About Shannika
Founder of The Transformation Woman born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Shannika graduated college as a first-generation college student and worked to live a lifestyle that her parents did not have the opportunity to live. As a young professional, Shannika learned to understand that failure is not the opposite of success but is a part of it. After obtaining her Master's in Education, Shannika gave birth to a beautiful baby boy that opened her eyes even more to how strong women are. It is her journey to motherhood that propelled Shannika to transform and reach her highest heights. Her journey became an inspiration to others and the start of something magical: The Transformation Woman. As a single parent, she discovered that it takes a strong, fearless, and faithful woman to press through any adversity. More importantly, she believes that someone can not overcome anything without the encouragement, education, and empowerment of others or faith! Being her own motivator and encourager, Shannika transformed herself into a powerhouse woman. Full-time mom, educator, administrator, and coach.

This year I have so much to be thankful for. If you follow me on Instagram you know my son turned 21 years old yesterday. My oldest daughter asked me how I felt and all I could say was "baby, I feel blessed".
Blessed is the best way I can describe it. When I look back over these past 21 years, I can't help but celebrate. How often do you look back over your life and celebrate where you are today? We are often rushing and striving for the next, but when was the last time you enjoyed the moment?

Why do moms feel we have to sacrifice ourselves in order to be great moms? Why do we think that if we pursue our dreams then that makes us a bad mom or selfish?
We are so tuned into our family and their needs that we skip basics like enjoying a shower or putting lotion on our bodies. Crazy, right? I know it sounds crazy when you read it, but this is the reality we face every day.
My guest today, Chari Twitty-Hawkins is a twin mom and she is all about self-care for moms. Chari is a self-care mom coach who helps moms make themselves a priority by embracing self-care and growth and in this episode, she is doing just that.

Believe it or not, hormone balance and nutrient deficiencies play a big role in work/life balance and stress. However, not many people consider the part that nutrition plays in overall health and stress responses in the body.
Today, I am joined by Dr. Angela Potter, a holistic doctor in women's health. Dr. Potter joined me today to discuss natural remedies for stress, the importance of nutrition, and how many of the mainstream things we know about health and wellness may not exactly be accurate.
In this episode, Dr. Potter shares:
About Dr. Angela Potter
Dr. Potter is a leading holistic doctor in women's health. After the birth of her first baby she came face-to-face with the hardships mothers frequently experience after giving birth. She was amazed at how little health support is given to mothers, particularly in their work/life balance. From there she began specializing in helping busy moms find alive and vibrant healthy living.
Dr. Potter has been interviewed for Healthline.com. She is a nutritionist as well as a doctor. Her office is located in Portland, Oregon where she lives with her husband and two toddlers.

These days the hustle culture is idolized. People wear "being busy" as a badge of honor. Well, I've said it once and I'll say it again, busyness is not life. Staying in a state of busyness leaves you nothing but stressed, overwhelmed, and miserable.
In case you don't believe me, my guest today is very familiar with life in the fast lane. Jess Johnson, knows all about the hustle culture, and specifically the corporate hustle. Late nights, early mornings, overworked, and missing out on important moments with her kids, Jess knew things had to change.

Why are we so hard on ourselves, mamas? We are our own worst critics at times. Why is that?
I've said it once and I will say it again, mom guilt is a lie! It is the false messages that we as moms tell ourselves and somehow believe that we are failing at this thing called motherhood.
However, just because I know it's a lie and I have strategies to overcome it, doesn't mean I still do not fall victim to mom guilt at times.
Now is one of those times.
In this episode I share:

Today, I am explaining what domestic violence is, breaking down some common myths, and challenging all of us to change the narrative and how we tend to think about DV.
Also, find out the question everyone should be asking. Spoiler alert: It’s NOT “Why Does She (or He) Stay”

Statistics show that social media can have a negative impact on teens, specifically teenage girls. In a world where everything is going digital, it is natural to worry about your kids and social media.
However, you do not have to feel helpless. You don't have to feel like social media is running (or ruining) your teen's life. The natural reaction is to want to delete all profiles and remove your kids from social media. But really, how realistic is that?
In this episode, I discuss ways you can help minimize the negative impact of social media on your kids.
The 4 tips covered in this episode will show you how you and your kids can feel empowered while navigating the messy troll-filled social media waters.

What do you do when you have an emotional breakdown and realize you have completely lost yourself in motherhood?
So many of us lose our identities and don't even remember the things we love to do once we become mothers. We become so wrapped up and absorbed in our roles that we lose touch with ourselves.
My guest today, Pamela Hawkes, knows all about that. From being a teen mom to having an emotional breakdown after the birth of her youngest daughter, Pamela is sharing the steps she took to regain control of her physical and mental health.
In this episode, Pamela shares:
About Pamela:
As the voice and creator of the “Unapologetically Me” blog, Pamela Hawkes coaches and empowers women to be the best version of themselves. She provides member support as well as group lessons through her social media presence, inspired by her own personal development journey.
Pamela’s hardships have led her down a path to discover self-acceptance, self-love, and personal growth, and she has a passion for helping women embrace this for themselves. She mentors and works alongside women, teaching them how to set goals and create habits to truly show up for their lives.
When she’s not coaching, her passion lies in being a Mama to three girls, ranging in age from toddler to teenager, being a wife to her best friend and biggest cheerleader, and working as the Vice President of fundraising for the biggest homeless nonprofit in New Hampshire.

Work-Life Harmony is a Constant
Truth is, I’m struggling right now. I am having rough moments, some tough days and that’s okay.
It’s time to normalize transparency and share the behind-the-scenes of the highlight reels of life.
I’m learning more and more to cut overwhelm off at the door. I’ve stopped beating myself and being so hard on myself when I can’t show up how I planned.
Most importantly, I’ve learned to take breaks, take care of myself, and jump back in when ready!
Life is a journey. The pursuit of work-life harmony is ever-evolving.
Here is how you can learn to adapt, adjust and allow for flexibility as you pursue your dreams and goals as a mom.

I am excited to have this conversation with you today. Let's face it, all moms lose our sh!t at one point or another. It's not something we like to talk about. It's a topic many avoid, however just because we avoid it doesn't mean it isn't happening.
There are no perfect moms and it's time to stop acting that way. The more we peel back the layers and talk about the feelings, emotions, and experiences of the woman behind the mom, the more we will empower moms.
In this episode, I am getting candid about my latest mommy meltdown, how ridiculous it was, and what I learned while going through it. I am sharing the role self-regulation and self-awareness play in mommy meltdowns. I am also sharing how important self-care is in preventing and minimizing meltdowns.
As I share my story on this episode, it is my hope that you will work through the story with me and see how I am learning to regulate my emotions, prioritize self-care, and remain aware as I am going through tough mom moments.

I absolutely love reading. There is so much to learn when you pick up a book. My guest today, Christine Mapondera is an author and publisher who is bringing the stories of Africa and African diaspora to life through her children's books.
Recognizing a need for children (and adults) to learn about Africa, Christine took things into her own hands and started creating stories and inviting us all into Makanaka's world. What started as publishing children's books has now grown into a publishing company, Global Kidz House, and now a magazine.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and I couldn't let the month end without talking about motherhood and mental health. Today, I am taking it back to season 2 where my guest Dominique Battle and I discussed the impact of trauma on the mental health of mothers.
Trauma and mental health are issues that impact everyone, including mothers. Unfortunately, we don't tend to our mental health as we do our physical health when in reality it is just as important.
My guest today is Dominique Battle a Mental Health Therapist and Life Transformation Strategist. She is helping individuals and couples work through their trauma so they can live their best lives.

“I’ll be the “bad guy” and I’m okay with that.”
I found myself repeating this multiple times in this past week-and-a-half.
Sometimes motherhood requires us to make tough decisions.
Choices that our family and kids may not always like. We have to learn to trust ourselves, our instincts and be okay with the tough choices we make on behalf of our kids.
In today's storytime, I discuss how an ordinary basketball program turned into a teaching and learning moment for my family. This incident brought to life the majority of the May episodes I've aired so far.
I found myself recalling the information, tips, and takeaways from my guests and applying them in the situation I was facing. Let me tell you, the information in episodes 89-93 came in clutch for me this past week.
This episode is a little different than my normally scheduled content. However, I had to share the lessons learned, the wisdom gained, and overall the mportance of trusting myself as a mother no matter what.
Listen to hear how a basketball program set the stage for some great teaching, learning, and life-defining moments in my household.

Joining me today is Audrey Renee of Dear Single Mommy.
Audrey Renee is a writer, author, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and life coach. Audrey used to be homeless and live in a transitional home where God called her to start ministering to the hearts of mothers. It was there she found forgiveness and healing through blogging and letter writing.
God then placed a few things upon her heart and Audrey turned her pain into purpose and started a community for single moms to come together and encourage each other. Soon after getting on her feet, God brought Audrey to a place where she was able to save $10,000 and leave her job during the pandemic. Audrey is committed to being an example to moms everywhere and redefining what it means to be a single mom.
What I love about Audrey is how open she is. During our conversation, she poured from her heart. Not only did she share her experience and all she has going on but she truly left inspiring words that minister to all moms/women listening.

Have you ever taken the time to sit in the quiet and reflect on all that is happening around you? Sometimes you just have to take a break and sit with your thoughts.
Sitting in stillness and finding peace in the midst of chaos is a must. When the world is moving fast around you and all hell is breaking loose, it is up to you to do what you can to preserve your peace and protect your energy.
In this episode, I am sharing what I am doing to maintain peace in such a crazy time and ways you too can achieve some peace. From imposter syndrome to the comparison trap to busy, hustle culture, so many things can have you messed up and trying to live up to someone else's standards.
Listen now to find out why it is okay to be at peace and be still.
The working mom and business owner's life is hard! Managing your family, work and your dreams is not easy at all. It can be exhausting, discouraging, and sometimes lonely. However, the reward is often worth the sacrifice. When you get into a rhythm and find a way to feel fulfilled and content not only as a mother but a woman also; that is a phenomenal feeling.
However, you can't build your dream off of someone else's blueprint. You have to find what works for you in life and go for it.
In this episode rewind, I sat down with Ingrid Read, Founder/CEO of Working MomKind to discuss life as a working mom as well as the reasons she started the Working MomKind community, not only for herself but moms just like her. Ingrid and I discussed the importance of documenting the motherhood experience, how empowering moms needs to be an everyday activity as well as what it takes to thrive as a working mom.

Self-care is an empowering experience, but what exactly does empowering yourself through self-care means? In today's episode, I get real and transparent about what it means to empower yourself through self-care.
When many of people think of self-care, they think of bubble baths and facials, but in this episode, I go deeper and dive into the internal process of self-care and what it truly means to take care of yourself.
I share:

Happy March! Happy Women's History Month! I can't believe the first two months of 2021 are already behind us. This month on the podcast is all about empowering women and specifically empowering moms.
Have you ever felt like the load you are carrying is too much? Are you struggle to let of the past or of "what you should be doing" so you can find your authentic self? As humans, we truly become empowered when we learn who we are and step into our authentic self unapologetically. In order to unapologetically be ourselves, we have to be empowered and feel confident enough to so yet.
However, before we can get to a place of empowered living, we have to learn to let go of some things. Other people's opinions, thoughts, what people say we should be, just to name a few. We have to let go of those things if we want to make it to our next level.

I recently read a quote that said "Don't compare yourself to other mothers, we are all losing out sh*t, some just hide it better than others". Matter of fact I posted this quote on my Instagram not too long ago.
Well, let me tell you, these past 24-48 hours I have really felt like I was losing my sh*t. Life was coming at me fast and it was one thing after another. However this time, I decided to stop hiding, stop covering it up and own the mess.
I said words I've never said before "I quit". Time out for pretending and trying to figure it out, I just couldn't do it so I quit.

The cry heard all around the country. Juggling work, children, and other responsibilities amid a global pandemic are pushing moms to their breaking point. Moms around the country are facing ever-growing challenges in trying to maintain their own personal sanity while caring for their family, working, and conquering an endless list of to-dos.
However, what do you do when it all becomes too much? You reach your breaking point, your tipping point, and are just plain burnt out. You may be feeling like a bad mom because you are short-tempered, losing your sh*t, and just can't hold it together. Well, guess what? You are not alone. One thing is certain, this pandemic has exposed the bias that exists in the workforce towards mothers. Now moms around the world are crying, yelling, and screaming out for someone to understand.
The New York Times recently published an article featuring their "Primal Scream Line", a line that lets moms call in and vent, cry, yell or scream for up to one minute. How genius is that?

I'm not going to lie, I have been struggling lately. This pandemic life is getting real and starting to take its toll on me. At a time when we looked forward to some reprieve from this state that we have been in for the past year, we are now seeing new variants of Covid emerge and spread. Afterwhile, this is enough to take its toll on even the most positive person.
However, I am reminded that even in my struggles, there is a bright side. There is light at the end of the tunnel and many times a ray of sunshine peeking through to give some hope. It is hard for us to see in while we are in it, but this is not the end all be all. We will come out of this and resume some type of new normal.
In this episode, I share:

Going, going, going, and then suddenly the world stopped, literally! In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic changed life as we know it forever. One year later, we are still in the midst of the pandemic praying every day that things will get better. We went from daily routines and outings to everyone being at home together trying to remotely work, attend virtual school and manage life the best we can.
I bet you have said to yourself at one time or another: "This is too much", "I can't do this anymore", "I feel like I'm losing my mind" or "There has to be more to life than this." I get it, this is an unfamiliar time. Add to that the pressures that already come with being a mother and caring for your family, life is pretty hectic right now.
While you may be settling into a rhythm after all this time, moms are still being significantly impacted by this pandemic. From having to work/run a business and be a homeschool teacher, master chef, etc to losing jobs, child care struggles, and or being forced to choose between work and their family, the mental distress mothers are experiencing is at an all-time high.
After almost a year of lockdowns, social distancing, and mask-wearing, it is so easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious and frustrated. You may even experience emotions that you can’t even assign any words. That is perfectly okay.
We are living in a state of collective trauma that is disproportionality affecting women, especially working mothers. Yes, Covid-19 is trauma and we are all living it and getting through this the best way we can. Although this is a difficult time and you don’t know what will happen from one day to the next, there are certain things you can do to better manage life during this time.
In this episode, I share:
I know it feels like this will never end, but this too shall pass. One day this pandemic will be a part of history, but for now, do your best to hang in there and get through it.

It's my ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION and I'm back with Season 4!
Celebrate with me today! I can't believe it's been a year already. This past year has truly been an amazing journey and I am so honored to have each of you with me on this journey. Never in a million years would I have thought that I would have a podcast or a platform where I share my voice week after week. From the girl who was so shy that I used to cry when my mom made me order food in a restaurant to a woman business owner whose voice is now heard by people all over the world. I tell you God is amazing.
There is no limit on what you can do when you put God first. This is all God's doing! If I had it my way, I would still be behind the computer pushing out books and writing content but God had other plans for me.
Each day I step out on faith, do the work and trust God to work out the details. Blind faith is a freedom like no other. Yes, it can be scary but with God, you have no reason to fear.
What would you do if you knew you wouldn't fail? That is how you have to approach each and every day, if not you will get stuck in perfection, stuck in the planning phase, and never advance on your dreams and goals.
In this episode, I share:

Let's face it moms, we all go through some sort of an identity crisis when we first become a mother. In a matter of months, we become responsible for the life of a tiny human being. We do a lot of preparation for before and when the baby comes to make sure we are ready to be moms. However, one thing we do not do is prepare for how much our individual identities change as a result of motherhood. Some of us eventually lose essence of who we are and lose our identity in our roles as mothers.
My guest today, Jenny Elliot is sharing her experience with having an identity crisis as a working mom. She is also giving tips and tools to all working moms to help you navigate this journey called motherhood while maintaining your individual identity, dreams and goals.
In this episode, we discuss:
About Jenny Jenny is a Career Mom. She is a mom to a 2.5 year old son, married to her husband for 7 years and has had a career in corporate America with a fortune 100 company for over a decade. After Jenny had her son she was so unprepared for the identity crisis she experienced when she returned to her career. It was that experience that led her to start her podcast, Career Mom, where she has conversations with working moms about the joys and challenges of raising child while juggling careers. Being a mom is hard. Having a career is hard. Doing both is REALLY hard!

The working mom and business owner life is hard! Managing your family, work and your dreams is not for the faint at heart. It can be exhausting, discouraging and sometimes lonely. However, the reward is often worth the sacrifice. When you get into a rhythm and find a way to feel fulfilled and content not only as a mother, but a woman also; that is a phenomenal feeling.
However, you can't build your dream off of someone else's blueprint. You have to find what works for you in life and go for it.

When someone asks you, "What do you like to do?", what is your response? Do you find it hard to answer? Is it nearly impossible to think of something that you enjoy as a person? The answer is inside of you, you just have to sit back, remember who you are and then you will easily be able to answer that question.
In motherhood, we are always so worried about what everyone else loves and enjoys that we often forget about ourselves. However, today I challenge you to rethink the way you have been doing things and get back to the things you like to do. Whether it's an old hobby or a new skill, it is important to your self-care plan that you reconnect with your own wants, needs and desires.
Not sure where to start? We don't need white saviors, we need white allies. The time we are in right now calls for our allies to stand strong and be effective.
However, many people do not know what it means to be an ally. They don't understand allyship and definitely don't know where to start to make an impact as an ally.
Allyship is goes beyond saying "we support you". To be an ally is to take action.
In this episode we learn:
Thank you in advance to all the allies who are taking a stand, the new allies who are listening and learning, preparing to take action. UNITY and LOVE is what the world needs now. We cannot let this be a trend or a hot topic. The time to change is now. The revolution is now. Let's continue to make history and make changes.
I have included links to resources and tools to help grow in your allyship. If you are looking for someone to speak at your event or to your audience, or even provide training for your team, please reach out to me at hello@lawannmoses.com.

Motherhood and parenting is a universal experience, however the extra loads that black people, especially black mothers, carry often makes our overall motherhood experience a little different.
A black women is a double minority, then add motherhood on to that and the barriers we face, it is a lot for anyone to endure day in and day out.
This episode is different than the rest. Real transparent talk about my experience as a black mother, the struggles many in the black community face, and how our white allies can step up, support and help make the change that is so desperately needeed.
I welcome you to listen with an open mind and open ears. No one has all of the answers. No one will get it right 100% of the time. However, it is important to be aware and take steps to do things differently. As they saying goes, "when you know better, you do better".

More Than A Mother introduces “More To Her Story”. Highlighting the life journeys of moms who are winning in life and motherhood. Today’s guest, Marteekah, shares with us her journey from teen mom to plus-size beauty enthusiast.
What we learn in this episode:
Mentioned in this episode: Forest App- Stay focused & Be productive
About Marteekah After spending over twenty years functioning in retail sales for Fortune 500 companies and later becoming an educator servicing public schools in New York City, Marteekah found herself in a conundrum. While helping customers express their inner selves with their styling choices and teaching children in her community was gratifying it was not fulfilling. She took to social media to promote body positivity and show women that they could look good at any size on any budget utilizing the styling and makeup skills she had been honing independently. By virtue of sheer will and the help of a savvy and God-fearing business coach, she is now serving a community of women who have been left unseen for far too long.
Marteekah is also the host of a freshly launched podcast about love and makeup. Releasing bi-weekly episodes where she takes up the complexities of relationships while discussing the latest in beauty trends

The Coronavirus is moving and spreading quickly! Thousands of lives are impacted and people have found their normal routines interrupted, disrupted, and halted completely.
Things are getting real, and people are panicking. COVID-19 is causing all kind of craziness, but in the midst of all of the mess people are getting sick, and some even losing their lives to this novel virus.
It's a serious situation, leaving us with more questions than answers. But one thing is for sure, we are all in this together, united by this virus that is impacting each and every one of us.
Schools are shut down. Jobs are closing. Cities are implementing curfews and the nation is on the brink of a national quarantine. Families that were once so busy, and who barely had time for each other, are now finding they have plenty of time to spend together.
Parties and gatherings are banned. The very way that we all socialize is changing rapidly. Social distancing is a practice we are all engaging in to help slow the spread of this virus.
COVID-19 (the coronavirus) has come in and truly shook up lives. However, you don't have to live in fear. You don't have to panic, but you do need to be prepared.
What we learn in this episode?
Follow the guidelines from the federal government, your state, and the CDC. Do your part to minimize the spread and flatten the curve.
Education is key. Control what you can control. Be prepared, but don’t panic.
Stay ready! Do what you can to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Believe it or not moms, we get sick too! Mom guilt will have us thinking we did something wrong because we are sick or we are less than because we can’t get everything done. I used to believe that moms don’t get sick days, however, today I am challenging that thought pattern.
You are human and your health matters. You don’t have to be a superhero! It’s bad enough with the common cold or flu, but find out what to do when illness occurs and you are no longer the mom you used to be.
Today, I am peeling back the layers and getting real with you about a health challenge I recently experienced. This is the first time I’ve told this story outside of close friends and family (as you can probably tell since I get a little emotional re-living the experience), but you know I believe in sharing stories so that I can help uplift and encourage someone else.
What do you do when you are ill? On today’s show, I discuss the unique challenges that come with illness, especially chronic illness, and how you can make the most of motherhood and life even when you’re ill.
In this episode, I chat with you about:
