What a battle in MPO. 4 Legitimate threats with 2 holes to go. Let's see what Calvin had to do in order to raise the trophy.(1:49) In FPO, Cat was doing Cat things and just out for a stroll on Sunday because of her work the 3 previous rounds. Her all around dominance made that possible.(38:24) We now have entered the world of law suits in disc golf. Worlds was everything we could have asked for. Even after last years history setting final round, this year wasn't a disappointment. Paul vs Goose. Let's dive in.(3:00) On the FPO side, Kristin was on a mission all year and she cleared the last hurdle this week in dominating fashion. What does this mean for her and all of the other chasers? Paul and Eagle showed their superlative class and the Eagle clawed over the Beast at the end. (2:15) Paige overtook Eveliina on the last day and I didn't see any of it. Simon is back. I'm so here for it. (2:49) Paige probably expected a nice Sunday stroll but ended up in a dog fight until the 2nd shot on 17. (21:45) It is no longer avoidable, let's have the discussion about transgender females in the FPO division. A decision is before us between fairness and inclusion. The PDGA is attempting to have both and I don't see that as being possible. (48:30) BOB will come to cement some common ground after the previous segment. (2:02:45)
Rick's putting was back in form which means that he had very little trouble on Sunday. However, there were several folks introducing their game, and crazy putts, to the world. (3:07) Kristen and Cat came down to the final hole and you would be excused for being surprised as neither were in the top 15 after day 1. (39:54) Let's talk about Jones Supreme; what the pros thought and why many did not fare well. (1:05:21) BOB is going to share a special recipe that will make you a favorite whenever you make it. One of the best finishes that we have seen in a while, and I don't just mean the last hole, but the entire round. 3 way tie with one to go. Wow. Riiiick! He played fantastic. So did Calvin but somehow didn't win. (1:30) Paige's first round was the thing of legend. Yet, she was still in a fight on the last hole. Paul clocked in 3 days in a row and went to work. There were some folks hanging around, but nobody was threatening him. (2:00) Valerie went and took the trophy on the final round back 9. It was a thing to behold and included one of the best pressure shots I've ever seen in FPO. (34:42) But something was revealed in FPO in round 1 that needs to be talked about. (1:03:30) Lastly, BOB has some views on animated movies that will, for sure, get some hackles raised. (1:18:29)
What a fantastic battle in both divisions. The favorites didn't really play their role this tourney. But Gannon and Drew went into OT where the savvy vet made a crucial decision that won him the event. (3:07) No matter what other stories are leading into an event, we always seem to find ourselves at the same spot; a Caige Match. I'm here for it. (53:08) I'm starting to see a troubling trend about Paige but I'm on the fence. Convince me one way or the other. (1:24:14) BOB is going to ask for the worst missing piece. Can you help him? Nathan Queen. What a story. Let's look at and the other story lines that were just as surprising.(2:17) Missy basically got paid $30K to walk around Hornet's Nest on Sunday. It's nice work if you can get it. (42:29) Let's talk about how long Gannon took, what the uproar was and the problems with moving forward. Wow. What a finish. Lots of folks came to play, only a couple had a chance to win on Saturday. We'll look at all of the beautiful complexity of this event, this course and this finish. (2:09) The women's event was going on as well but there was a story that surpassed the finish of the event, Paige. (56:52) The DGN broadcast was great, until it went horrendously wrong. What a tournament. Both MPO and FPO had all time great rounds by the winners as well as both of them taking down their first DGPT wins on a stressful 72nd hole. Chris was being chased by Ricky all day on Sunday (2:15). While Hailey had to come back against Sarah.(28:56) Next up is the Match Play Championships and I'll walk you through the brackets and pick my winners.(56:25) Lastly, BOB is going to present a top 10 list that was years in the making during my childhood. Where do you disagree with my rankings and why are you wrong. (1:14:49)
Eagle was flying high but there was a Raptor in the bushes eyeing him. However, Adam came and shot them both. (2:01) Kona, Hailey and Paige were trying to get Cat but she decided to not fight and just go beat them all by at least 7. (34:54) I've got to get something off my chest about Steve Dodge. (55:26) Lastly, BOB is inviting you to survive. (1:03:28)
Iron Hill is a unique place that hosted some unique things. Relative unknown Connor O'Reilly played 2 solid and 1 course record for his first big win. But there is something weird happening out there keeping the best from being the best. (2:54) Cat went out and did something amazing that turned the fight into a cake walk. (29:35) When I went to Columbia last week, I met someone. Let's just say, a new player has entered the game. (47:21) BOB is going to offer a way to answer the question "Did we just become best friends?"(1:22:56)
The finish in MPO was definitely more wild than idle. Wow. A very real chance at a 6 way playoff with one hole to go. Let's talk about how we got there and how it finished.(2:23) The FPO finish was setting up to be great but in the end, Paige did what Paige does and lifted another tournament but this win could solidify some bad habits.(46:24) The PDGA is proposing some rules changes and I love some and don't understand others.(1:08:53) Then BOB is gonna bring a song from the personal way-back to try to underline a point. (1:30:38)
Ummmmm.....wow. There are so many things to say in regards to this tournament before even mentioning the greatest combined ending of any tournament ever. Wow.
James and Paul had a battle for the ages that I can't understand how Paul lost. (1:30) We had another classic Caige match that I can't understand how Cat won. (50:56) The story at the beginning of the week was about all of the problems that the tournament was having which somehow became worse when the PDGA president or the TD got involved. (1:22:06) Finally, BOB is going to present an unusual sitution at a restaurant to elicit your opinion. (1:58:20)
This episode is going to be a bit different. The battles on the course were not though. Here's all the recap you need; the 1050 boys were playing king of the hill until the last putt (1:46) and Paige and Cat were fighting each other and there was a race for 3rd happening somewhere behind them. (40:13) Rule breakers are under new scrutiny in MLB. Can that give disc golf some hope? (41:35) BOB is calling those Hogs. (43:43)
The big dogs weren't a factor at DeLa but Adam had to earn it nonetheless. Let's look at how he was able to hold on and what it did to the chaser. (2:13) The FPO division also played. I found it completely uninteresting. Let me tell you why. (26:43) I walked a tournament round with a group of Intermediates last week. Oh, boy, was it interesting. (41:46) Then BOB is gonna tell you about 3 movie characters that scared me in real life. (56:00)
Paul is, well, Paul. Solid performance keeping him in it and then striking at the perfect time. (3:21) Hailey put up a great performance and then stood out of the way when Cat couldn't keep it in bounds at the end. (34:34) What on earth happened to the B pool and what can be learned from it? Rick was in a form that should terrify his opponents and Paul's putt seems to be off. (2:10) Catrina looked absolutely unbeatable and Paige's dance with danger caught up to her. (32:10) The rule that I dislike the most reared it's head at least 3 times on camera and I'm tired of it. I try to give some alternatives. (49:44) BOB is going to reference a movie you have likely seen and recommend a book you probably haven't read.(1:01:01)
I think I can say with no exaggeration that Rick is back. This was one of the most complete performances in recent memory. (2:02) Paige couldn't get it going and Cat fell down in the 3rd round leaving the door open for the Hail Storm to blow in. (28:45) This was an NT and it felt no different than a DGPT event, in a good way. Should we keep going this direction? (45:53) BOB has a moral quandary to bring up. (51:42)
The bEast was doing beastly things and I'll give you $100 if these were the two winners you picked going into the event. Let's look at what the course was up to in the MPO division (2:46), how Kona couldn't be troubled to compete with anyone in FPO (36:38) and what needs to be done about Nikko and his excessive time violations (54:21). Lastly, BOB is gonna examine when the good guys don't win. (1:24:20)
Two great battles in a new format that both go down to the last hole? Yes, please. KJ and Chris battle in MPO (2:26) while a 3-way fight between Cat, Paige and Hailey goes down in FPO (26:41). The 2020 DGPT is officially completed, let's look at the good and bad of the year. (53:50) BOB is going to ask about your favorite one hit wonder. No, not that kind, the other. (1:10:18)
Winthrop has always delivered great golf and amazing drama. 2020 has taken lots of things from us but it didn't take away those two things this weekend. Chris came to play but Calvin wasn't just going to let him walk away. (1:29) Paige and Cat are the class of the FPO field but PPs arms are just a bit longer right now. (38:12) Hole 17 is great. There I said it, fight me. (58:08) BOB has another civic admonition; get educated. (1:09:43)
The Disc Side of Heaven is a wonderful course with some real challenge. Well, challenging to folks not named McBeth or Heimburg. Let's look at their incredible battle and how Calvin was able to tame the Beast. (2:02) Paige, again, made a course and the competition look small. This may be her most dominant win ever. (26:25) USDGC begins this week and it is special. (39:18) BOB is going to come to us all with a month long challenge. (53:45)
The big dogs fighting it out in both divisions at one of the best and most historic courses on tour? Yes, please. Paul vs Rick (1:48) and Paige vs Sarah (30:55) with the winners having surprisingly similar tournaments. However, this wasn't without some discussion a couple of different times. (50:54) But BOB will come in and help us focus on what is worth our time. (1:05:04)
We had 2 great battles to match the two great courses at Smuggs. Kevin held off the best of the best (1:37) and Paige held of the best 2nd place challenge of all time. (2:12) This wasn't without controversy, though. (43:15) BOB then shows up to tell you how to survive. (57:32)
Dominance is fun to watch sometimes. Rick was never out of control over the course of 4 rounds on two completely different tracks. Let's look at the details. (1:39) Cat earned the right for a stroll in the park on Sunday. (24:02) Ledgestone was the final straw for Brodie and he is stepping away for a bit. What a fantastic course. How did everyone handle it? Eagle finished just ahead of some amazingly talented golfers. What gave him the edge? Vegas was a good start to the season but our best players aren't in top form just yet. Nate was able to win without doing anything the best. Cat was able to win by not making as many mistakes as Eveliina. Will this set them up for Fountain Hills or will the dominators of the past take over. It's a pretty simple case that I'm making; there isn't a good, objective reason to pick anyone other than Paul or Paige. I've got 4 criteria that I use to lay out why Paul(2:09) and Paige (29:34) will be writing 5x in about a week; despite the best efforts of Ricky and Cat. Then BOB is going to make some movie recommendations that I think you will enjoy that you may not have seen before. (46:07)
Kevin goes wire to wire for his first signature win. Wow. So well done.(1:54) On the FPO side, we had, in my opinion, the best battle in many, many years. Let's dig in to what gave PP the edge. (22:54) Because of this battle, and the one currently brewing on the debate page, let's look at the things that we disc golfers always argue over. Yes and No. Let's discuss. Then I want to challenge you to do something that I learned about recently that I will begin implementing at my local minis. Drew, Eagle and Simon all had a chance to win and all missed a big putt on the last 3 holes. Let's talk about who was able to best recover.(2:24) Paige and Cat were at it again and it was wonderful. (29:24) Milo is 22 miles down the road but it is a completely different feel out there and this event is always up for some drama. (44:23) Adam Hammes and Eagle both had some extracurricular drama that the social media world wanted to discuss. Let's try to bring some facts to the discussion and figure out what we should do about it. (1:01:12) Finally, BOB is going to describe a weird etiquette situation I found myself in. How can you not be happy about GG winning? A great performance across the board and dodged the muddy, rainy bullet that got just about everyone else. Cat, on the other hand, was expected to win and did in, once again, a dominating fashion.(1:51) Let's head up the 101 to Portland and take a look at Blue Lake and the folks that have history there. However, if you look at the history of this tournament, there are only 2 other folks that can be reasonably expected to win. Both Open divisions came down to the 72nd hole. Amazing. Let's discuss the golf side of things of MPO (2:08) and FPO (35:48). But there were other story lines from the FPO action that deserve a mention (57:20). Also a movie came out last week that has made a bit of money. That got BOB thinking. A little bit of rain happened in Jonesboro, plus some pretty amazing golf considering the conditions. Let's take a look at how Paul did Paul things in the final round. Let's head down to Texas to talk about DGPT stop #2 at the Waco Annual Charity Open. Jerm is the two time defending champ but there is lots of trouble at the Beast. Let's take a look at how difficult this course plays. (1:31) The FPO division doesn't get a pass out here either and Paige and Sarah are the only ones that have shown that they can consistently handle it. (28:53) The DGPT now has attempt #2 at impressing the masses. What should we expect and where will the trouble come from if it arrives. Calvin looked in the eyes of the best golfers and stared them down. Wow. What an impressive win. Let's look at that as well as some other interesting things that happened in Vegas. The Memorial is up next and always a birdie, slug fest. Who do you think will come out on top? The DGPT commentary crews have been announced. What are your expectations? I'll lay out mine. Then Bob will ask us to draw some fine lines around some fine things.
Wow. No disc golf but a ton of stuff happening. Let's recap Paul leaving Innova and all the other changes. Is this good for disc golf? Is this good for other pro players? The DGPT made a massive announcement in their changing of media partners. How did this come about and who will "win" or "lose" in the negotiations? The PDGA made another well intentioned, but poorly worded, change to the rule book. Let's look at it. Finally, the greatest/worst time of the sports world is here. Let's celebrate and cry.
Everything about this tournament was bonkers; the stacked field, the format, the final round, the island boundary. Let's talk about all of it. Now that the "season is over" let's give ear to the rumor mill to see about possible team changes. Then BOB will ask us to think about happier things and come up with a top 5 to argue about.
Paul/Kevin/James, wow. It went from a run away to a nail biter and we are all so happy that we got to see it. Let's look at what propelled Paul and what doomed his chasers. Secondly, the stats tell us something very interesting and I want you to pick a side. Then let's tackle the review of the USDGCs foray into the live disc golf game as well as a bunch of disc golfers all of a sudden becoming art critics. Lastly, BOB will ask you to pick from some peaceful options.
The Championship has arrived. One of the most looked forward to events on the disc golf calendar and for good reason. Let's take a look at the recent history to remember the prestige and hopefully give us an insight as to who can lift the trophy this year. Then let's look at the particular course and players that will try to attack it. Lastly, BOB is going to make a completely rational statement that some foolish people will disagree with.
Barsby and Bjerkaas. Wow. Not many saw this coming and not many are upset about it. Two great, feel-good stories, as well as two gutsy performances had everyone smiling. Let's take a deep dive at the most critical moments and see what they had to fight through. Then we will take a look at some of the other story lines that came out of Smuggs. Finally, BOB is going to ask us to fight but probably not in the way that you are thinking.
I'm saying that there are only 5 men and 2 women that can win this tournament, plus 2 dark horses. See if my reasoning holds up. As an added bonus, you can see what Ron Burgundy and Gracie Hart have in common. Then BOB is gonna remind you of something great and ask you to dream big.
James was amazing. Paul was really good. Ricky seemingly thought his all time great round from Saturday meant he didn't have to play well on Sunday. 2nd on the box is going to look at the busy week on disc golf social media and the Ledgestone Open roaring back into the discussion a couple weeks after it was over. BOB is going to ask which of 3 very specific people would you like to have dinner with.
Nate is awesome. That is all. Let's look at how awesome. Then we look ahead to another daunting course where only the best will survive. But before we totally leave Peoria, let's look at the controversies that surround Ledgestone and see if they hold true. Then BOB is going to see where you draw your line in regards to where you lay your head.

Second on the box this week will look at an interesting rule that I played in an unsanctioned event recently and how it could help with one of disc golf's big problems. Third on the box is a personal story that is meant to help the less experienced who, hopefully, never get this type of personal experience. Let's take a look at what happened in Kentucky with the divergent rounds of Kevin Jones and Paul McBeth. 2nd on the box will be a discussion about TDs/Sponsors and camera crews. When one makes demands on the other, who has the upper hand? Then BOB is going to walk us through something that, sadly, I encountered last week.
