ZLORD chronicles inner and outer adventures and whimsical musings of teZa and Carter Lord. The cohosts dedicate their conversations to spreading love and helping to heal our divided blended family of humankind. They explore Spirit in all its various forms. (No politics, ever)
These two American artists (30+ years married) live freely and love to explore how to uplift one's own, and help others' to experience (and maintain) higher states of fear-free, Present Moment consciousness. Carter is a committed Christian, teZa is a mystic yogini. However their paths may differ, they both speak Oneness. One fan calls them "the George and Gracie Burns of spirituality."
Since the pandemic, weekly episodes are dedicated to exploring life's inner adventures. Earlier episodes explored 6-months of car-and-tent camping in the Wild (start in June 2019 and join their fun-camping life starting from Maine, westward through Canada, south along the Pacific Northwest, into the spectacular canyons of the West, to Big Bend along the Texas-Mexico border, and East back to Florida, where the couple reside next to the sea.
Please send comments and suggestions for future conversations to zlordpodcast@gmail.com. Presently they rarely have guests since they use a simple iPhone for these lo-tech, often nomadic recordings.
teZa, a 4-book author and spiritual activist, is a frequent guest on other podcasts. See tezalord.com. She is soon to publish her first novel. Inquiries for literary representation welcome. teZa offers free yoga classes and guided meditations on her YouTube channel.
Carter is a feature filmmaker and photographer of their journeys and his muse teZa's lifelong yoga practice: visit carterlord.com.

In this busy worlD we all have so much to do. I am finishing my last book; I barely have time to cook myself a meal. So I have chosen to not go to our much-loved family reunion this year with Carter, my cohost. Choosing wisely, instead, to stay at my desk to finish this last final edit. But yet I make time every day, especially when I'm feeling stressed--to tune into who and what I really am. Join me, teZa Lord and see how easy it is and actually fun to know you are not what you think you are. tezalord.com #spiritualTools #BodyMindSpirit #stayBalaNced #homoSpiritus #WeAreONE
Happiness is having Carter, my long lost cohost join us again. Naw, he wasn't lost, just doing his thing, getting real. Sometimes you just have to step back from your life and reassess. Here we discuss how grateful we are to know how to work with our personal "Ideal" a helpful tool. It's season 4, not 3 as I mistakenly say. Also, last year at this time (around his birthday) Carter took another sabbatical. Hmmmm. For a boat, a tiller is crucial to steer. Without it, a boat flounders, is aimless--without power to even move. In life, what's your tiller? What "steers" your boat? A good metaphor to reflect upon. Join teZa and Carter as they travel the Atlantic's Intracoastal Waterway in less than (ahem) luxurious fashion. Join Carter and me teZa, cohosts of ZLORD as we (attempt to) make a long planned trip from St Augustine Florida up the Intracoastal. Luxury cruise this is not. Join teZa as she describes the week-long 7-women retreat in Tulum, in Mexico's Yukatan. She wanted a Reset, and mission accomplished! Feeling interconnected was the theme, made easier by being and sharing with other spirit-oriented women. With all physical needs pre-arranged (and so luxuriously at Amansala a beachside upscale resort) quiet calm sistered with self-care and inner exploration made the 7 days whizz by. Some of us played, others dove into self-inquiry for virtually the first time. All were willing and Joy was our common denominator. Because our workshop called "Sacred Rhythms" leader's name, Jocelyn, literally means Joy. Body Mind Spirit: our delight. We Released what needed to be released. Reframing life in new and marvelous ways surprising even to ourselves. Identifying blocks can be fun, my friends! We enjoyed several Mayan traditional ceremonies: a purifying clay massage and plunge in the sea with sound attunement for one, a sweat lodge for another, with cacao sharing in between. "Life is a ceremony, drinking cacao is just what we do in between," our master of the temezcal (sweat lodge) ceremonies Carlos explained, as he sang sacred Mayan songs to us and fed herbs such as rue, basil, and rosemary to the glowing hot rocks. The air purified our lungs. The womb-like structure caressed and invigorated our souls. The kopal incense and flower petals glorified our quest. Awareness - Acceptance - Action 💕 these 3 stages 💕 go hand-in-hand with transformation 💕Contact if you want to experience Sacred Rhythms: JocelynGordon.com/love ⭐️ Visit tezalord.com for her books and visionary art #howToReset #releaseBlocks #moveOnFromLimitations #enjoyJoy #LoveYourSelf
Hello dear Ones! Our first episode of 2026 is finally available, whew! In order to do this I (teZa) and not Carter (my cohost) had to learn a WHOLE NEW method of technological intricacies. Triple whew! Like many of us, change is challenging. Even to us podcasters who strive to bring interesting ideas to the world (hence the unintended delay). I hope you enjoy listening to our banter based on love and respect of each other's viewpoints. Carter and I always respect each other even though we may not agree. And I hope you continue listening to others as well, and be open to expanding your own perspective of this Great Mystery -- called LIFE. Carter and teZa Lord share from their unedited conversation —and personal experiences— how they have re-trained negative thinking into more contructive ways. Topics rangung from the food we choose to eat —to current trends in our ever complex world—we have within our human power to change our thinking. First though, comes the awareness of our holding onto negative patterns that our brains have tendencies toward. Next comes acceptance —of wanting to change from negative to positive thinking. And only then comes the action we must take to forge new pathways in our mind's neuroplasticity. We all have them, good and bad, positive and negative—the desires that push and pull us this way and that. At various times of our lives they are guides while at other times they can be hindrances. The challenge is to be aware of our desires, and feel how they influence our decisions. Cohosts tezalord.com and carterlord.com sometimes agree, often differ: but always love and respect each other. Married decades and having FUN. #spiritualConvo #Oneness #mindfulConvo #OurSoulHaePurpose #feelingGoodIsFUN #happinessIsYours #LoveNotFear #chooseLove
Any action begins with a thought. Our minds are the “builders” of our lives. If one wants change, one must befriend and be aware of our thoughts. We have the power to change ourselves—no one else❣️ A thought can be elevated simply because we have decided to reflect on it, and perhaps decide to elevate its vibration, and we CAN. Thus, the way our thoughts are is the level of higher, or lower possibilities we allow ourselves. Even if we’re in an oppressive situation. All change starts with a choice. In this episode cohosts Carter and teZa Lord discuss real ways they work with this amazing spiritual principal. Life on planet Earth is getting more tense by the moment. Whether a world crisis or a personal resentment, we all contribute to elevating our world (or not) by the action we choose to take. In this episode, cohosts Carter and teZa Lord talk about the recent atrocities in the Middle East’s Gaza, and how we can relate this show-down between extremist-Hamas and Israel in the bigger world arena—to having a resentment against our neighbor, something all of us can relate to. See tezalord.com and carterlord.com for more about hosts.
After last week’s unprecedented violence by Hamas extremists in Israel’s Gaza Strip, cohost teZa and Carter Lord attempt to explain their relationship with the Divine, the blatant cause of too many wars. For these two long-marrieds, they experience the Sacred through both personal inner experiences, like meditation and serving others, as well as through spiritual teachings, such as “The Word” offered in religious texts. Both defend their very different stands on the modern question of: “Is God dead?” debated by various seekers and anti-religious alike. The Lords’ conclusion? Yes! ALL Religions serve as a beacon of hope for many in our otherwise insane world. But extremists—of any ilk—can make anything a trip to hell with their narrow, intolerant interpretation of what is, in essence, simply one’s version of goodness: being a decent human being. There comes a time in everyone’s life—and in this case, our four fun years of podcasting about life’s journey itself—when a crossroads is reached. In this episode cohosts teZa and Carter discuss her recent period of reflection, and how she’s made an important and necessary decision (she is, after all, the motivating force behind the creation of ZLORD podcast). So now—the tipping point of human awareness and openness to expressing compassion for our planet has been reached. It is time (it’s never too late!) to help raise awareness of our Earth’s climate crisis, and what we—as both individuals and as a blended family of humankind—can do to make a difference in solving it. Change begins with awareness. See tezalord.com and carterlord.com
From the smallest change to the ultimate, everything in our life—everything!—rests on how aware we are of the immense power of the mind. How we think is how our individual life evolves. Thoughts influence our health, happiness, and peace of mind—or bring discomfort, imbalance, even disease to our physical and mental states. In this episode teZa and Carter Lord discuss the reasons why they choose (after experiencing discouraging effects of erroneous thinking) to accept differences without judgement. Reasons are given why the common labels of “good or bad”—about anything —ought not be used for things/people/ideas different than our own preferences. Judging always results in unhealthy effects, in society, in our private lives. Yet exercising discrimination is essential: it’s a necessary part of self reflection, an integral part of a balanced spiritual approach to life. See tezalord.com and carterlord.com for more cohosts.
It’s “old and selfish thinking” to strive only for personal fulfillment. Everything she says is based on her own life's journey, as documented in her 4 nonfiction books: see tezalord.com for cohost's books/art/activism. Cohost Carter asks questions mostly here. We all lose it every now and then. We're human. Even those of us who want to experience life from its highest plane of pleasant possibilities as ZLORD's cohosts teZa and Carter often say they do, have to deal with "a bad day" or a "bad thing happening." Yet---being angry, disappointed, sad, jealous---negative emotions sometimes overwhelm us. What to do when this happens? In this episode the talk is frank and honest, as usual, revealing how each of us have to admit our common human foibles, as well as our aspirations to be spiritual as well as materially safe and content. We all want to enjoy life. But sometimes we have to really WORK for that to happen when things don't go our way. Tools and suggestions are offered from the cohosts' personal experiences. The title of this episode is not a question, but a statement. teZa and Carter Lord, cohosts of ZLORD go deeper into their last episode's topic, "to continually keep trying in life." Here, using personal experiences of their own, they examine in detail one of the many inspiring statements made by the famous physicist Albert Einstein, who married spirituality to his approach of exploring scientific laws of the Universe, with such pronouncements as: "It is high time the ideal of success should be replaced with the ideal of service." Sounding groggy and hoarse, both Carter and teZa, ZLORD's cohosts, are recovering from their first do-see-do with Covid-19. Even though they've tried their best to avoid it, the virus got them at an indoor family wedding. Ok, so they got sick. Here they explain how getting sick isn't anyone's fault, and there's no blame or shame in contracting this worldwide plague. With anything in life, we keep trying. Not giving up is the name of the Game of Life. Recuperate when down, but step right back into the ring and keep swinging, this is this episode's message (interrupted by croaking, coughing, but NOT Infectious, yet hopefully Tryinig-ness is contagious). See www.tezalord.com and www.carterlord.com for more info.
Many of us realize there are just as many positive opportunities these days as there are so-called "bad" things happening. It's all how we perceive life, how things affect us. In this episode ZLORD cohosts teZa and Carter Lord discuss how it's always a choice, how we perceive any aspect of life. Specific examples of choosing to be positive are given for challenging situations. All around us, everyday, every moment, we get challenged by others. It's totally up to us whether we let someone else's annoying ways (or dangerous, or depressing, neurotic, "not nice" behavior) affect our birth-right privilege of feeling content, even blissful, with the way things are. Sure, we want to help others, but helping ourself be content is our main responsibility.
One thing is for sure: Everything changes! Here the cohosts discuss how to find inspiration in even the worst situations. Example: how we can help climate change by planting trees instead of being fearful of civilization's future. Cohosts Carter and teZa Lord discuss the whys and wherefores of the very common human tendency to put others down who are different, in any way. And how to heal our brokenness--we must stop this destructive habit. Compassion has to be awakened in all of us if we're to resolve the crisis of current times, with our global family of humankind fearful and worried about so many things. The long-married Lord couple gives tips of how to reverse this tendency ... by first being aware of one's own habit. Here, teZa goes solo while Carter travels. She offers what she sees, feels, and knows is an opportunity for great positive change in our present state of agitated spirits. More than ever before our global human family has now the impetus to rise above negativity, to put forth more constructive and meaningful efforts to better everyone's lives who's alive. Freedom is a big deal to every human on planet Earth. But really, do we think of it in terms of "spiritual freedom"? Here cohosts teZa and Carter Lord approach this episode's topic with experience and sincerity, sharing from deep places about their own understanding, and several others close to them. Carter interviews cohost teZa about her early history and mental "reset" when she was professionally involved with the studies and experimentation of plant medicines. At Harvard U. she drew plants and assisted botanists as they explored how indigenous people throughout the world have used psychotropic plants since time immemorial to facilitate touching "the Divine." Featured are recollections of Richard Evan Schultes, Timothy Plowman, Wade Davis, Tom E. Lockwood and how these pioneers in ethnobotany today are helping modern people understand about the benefits of a reverential use of sacred plants. Michael Pollan's book Change Your Mind introduced micro-dosing of psychedlics to aid mental health. Today, the US Federal Government has approved using mind-altering plants in a guided ritualized fashion to aid the military's huge problem of PTSD sufferers "reset their minds" to find comfort. This could be a solution for the increasing numbers of suicides in both post-military and youthful mental health sufferers. Visit tezalord.com and carterlord.com for more about the hosts.
Part 3 of our "no-labels" discussion (see previous episodes) cohost Carter and teZa share how many listeners are writing, reacting, and still need clarity to this most interesting of subjects. Again, talking about our spirituality is often hard using words, in general, but when we insist of sticking to the labels so necessary to function in everyday society, that's where hindrances happen. Hopefully, this will help clear up any ambiguities. Write us zlordpodcast@gmail.com with your thoughts. tezalord.com and carterlord.com for more of our hosts.
Following the thread of ZLORD's two previous episodes about Oneness, cohosts teZa and Carter Lord share about the reasons why Oneness ought be as much a part of life, as mainstream as sharing on social media. Unity consciousness is that important to a fulfilling, contented life, making the worse hardships bearable. Examples are given of those who do, and those who don't ascribe to this state of mind: seeing the interconnectedness of all life. See tezalord.com and carterlord.com to discover more about the hosts.
Part 2 of the previous episode's discussion of why life is so much better "without labels." Cohosts teZa and Carter differentiate between cultural adjectives, that are often needed to function in society--and the deeper connection with our eternal soul that has no reason or need to be labeled. They encourage everyone to listen to Hannah Gadsby's stunning Netflix show "Nanette" to more clearly understand the harm of using labels. see tezalord.com and carterlord.com to see more about ZLORD's cohosts. Everyone's tired of the divisiveness and animosity in our social interactions and political leanings. In this episode cohosts teZa and Carter Lord notice a distinct swing among their circles toward tiring of arguing and more inclined to healing the divide. The discussion points out drawbacks of using "labels" of any sort, whether for our own multi-layered lives or in reference to people holding different opinions. Finally, the couple give a wonderful way in which we can implement a real change in society: by inviting small groups of friends (of "different" opinions) to come together for a "talking stick" meal in which everyone gets to share, and everyone gets to listen. These small informal get-togethers send ripples of kindness and civility throughout our troubled culture, one meal, one civil, kind discussion at a time. See tezalord.com and carterlord.com to know more about the hosts.
Often coming from two different perspectives, cohosts teZa and Carter Lord always agree on one thing: they both love Spirit. In this episode they unravel the meaning of Oneness, because both have different definitions for it. But in the end, they both agree: Oneness IS Spirit. Just another name for it. see tezalord.com and carterlord.com for more about these two lovers, and lovers of Spirit.
Every person alive, sooner or later, meets with hard times, challenges, situations. Here cohosts teZa and Carter discuss methods they use, individually and sometimes together, to help become more aware, more accepting of what might not be in their power to change--and then, and only then--taking action to alleviate stress becomes possible and inner peace is ours. Even with seemingly impossible times at hand. See tezalord.com and carterlord.com for more about hosts.
Going solo this episode, teZa hopes she's going to convince her good friend Dori to join her for a spontaneously planned conversation as they share woman-to-woman time on a beach date. Well, as often happens, things do not work out as we like to think they will. But everything happens for a bigger purpose than we alone can imagine, as happens when Dori says, "I'm too shy!" But this leads teZa into the topic of .. Being Aware of Awareness. And how that ability of Self-Awareness fits in to our everyday lives. Next week Carter returns to share how he became Seniors Champion in Tennis Doubles (in both male and female partners divisions) instead of podcasting with teZa. this episode See tezalord.com and carterlord.com for more about ZLORD's cohosts.
Have you ever wished you could get some help from God, our Spiritual source? Your Higher Self? Your guardian angel? No matter what you call this "energy"--this week teZa and Carter Lord talk about how they "use it." Learn how they approach the Divine when they're seeking answers they need help with. Step by step, each shares how s/he does this; and how anyone can do the same whenever they need extra assistance from a source other than a friend, counselor, or ... a psychic. In truth, we are ALL psychic. We all can access powerful assistance whenever we need it. See tezalord.com and carterlord.com for more about the cohosts.
teZa and Carter Lord, cohosts and life partners of 3 decades, are freshly back from two weeks of van camping in Southeast Arizona. They're really excited about the conservation message so beautifully given by scientist Diana Beresford-Kroeger in her most recent book: To Speak for the TREES. Join their enthusiasm as they discuss how every conversation needs to focus on Spirit. Then, everything changes. Anyone who forgets this will face challenges and difficulties and never find true contentment. see tezalord.com and carterlord.com for more about the hosts. Be well.

teZa and Carter are freshly back from a multiday reunion with old school chums, many of whom hold opposing views about the way the world is. Bonded by a mutual love, having known each other since childhood, it's important to the group to find common ground rather than continue arguing about such things as politics, economics, and general "grown-up" topics that never mattered when they became fast friends. This episode is dedicated to how we can all learn to listen to each others' views, and accept that each person has the right to hold their own point of view. Whether in a small family, or a nation, or a global unit--we are all members of the blended family of humankind. See teZalord.com for her 4 books and carterlord.com for his feature films.
Cohosts teZa and Carter Lord talk about how being "in tune" with higher levels of consciousness is a choice each of us gets to make, over and over, each day, each moment in the day. They share some of the tools they use to stay in this "river of consciousness" ... and some of the ways in which it's easy to forget. teZaLord.com for more info of her nonfiction books and carterlord.com for carter's films.
In our fast-paced world of today, misunderstanding is easy, especially using texts and emails as our method of communication. We don't get to hear the nuances of a voice, or see a person's body language. Words have powerful energy! Often ours are misunderstood. In this episode Carter and teZa, cohosts of ZLORD, discuss how to give other people the "benefit of the doubt" when there's been a misunderstanding. And they give practical tools about how to communicate on a higher level, one they call the Blended Family of Humankind, which includes everyone alive. If all of us could treat and speak to each other as if we were in close relationship, like a family is ... giving adequate time and sensitivity to our differences ... this world would be a healthier, happier place. Zen Love is teZa's nonfiction book that describes how she achieved just this in real-life fashion. teZaLord.com for more.
No matter what it is, any negative emotion can be turned around to serve our lives' fulfillment, and not be the source of pain, depression, anxiety, sadness, or any other form of negativity. In this episode cohosts teZa and Carter Lord give real-life examples of how they work the awareness, acceptance, action 3-step process of transforming negatives into, if not positives, at least just stepping-stones of life's unpredictable journey. see tezalord.com for more
During cohosts teZa and Carter Lord's lifetimes things have never felt so filled with things beyond their control. World events are catastrophic. Putin's Russia invading Ukraine has thrown the entire globe into a frightening tailspin. Never before has a nuclear threat loomed as REAL as we are experiencing right now. Today. So what can we do to ease the stress? Especially helping our young children through these troubled times? Here are explicit tools how to handle your own, your friends', and our children's anxiety. We must. share about our fears in a safe way. Not keep these dark feelings locked inside. But how can we do this, especially with hard-to-communicate-with children? Suicides of kids have skyrocketed since the pandemic. As a result, the US government has initiated a new hotline for mental health: 988. Please call if you are feeling suicidal and spread this message! The Lords discuss their personal approach of holding a all-equal-voices family meeting. This subject is also a major theme of teZa's nonfiction book "Zen Love." tezalord.com for more.
Many in the free world feel imperiled right now. Upon this past week's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Putin's Russian military forces and the subsequent loss of life and river of refugees during a harsh winter, our conversation's mood is solemn. The fragile balance of world power hangs precariously in the hands of an apparent greedy madman What can we do to help? In this week's episode teZa and Carter Lord offer what hope and comfort with their listeners that they hold near to their hearts during this unprecedented time in recent history. see tezalord.com for more
Carter and teZa Lord discuss how accessible real happiness is for every person alive--if they're willing to do "the work." No one can deny: life is hard. Many happiness "experts" are offering ways to grasp fulfillment because we are a more "mindful" culture in the West. In this week's conversation, as always, the ZLORD cohosts present personal anecdotes and true-life experiences of how these two lovers (of life and each other) have found contentment even in the face of life's great hardships. They show how anyone can experience serenity if they are willing to change their attitude. see tezalord.com for more
Carter and teZa Lord talk about a useful exercise they're doing: making a spiritual inventory of their assets as well as their deficits. Why do such a thing? Isn't being spiritual mindful enough? Well, we all can improve, right? By writing these self-reflexive things about ourself down (privately, but written down not just contemplated) they become tangible to us. Then we really know what we have successfully accomplished in our pursuit of happiness and what we need to be more mindful about, so we can, little by little, have the courage to change the parts of ourselves that create barriers to true contentment. see tezalord.com for more
Everyone's sick and tired of "them vs. us" vitriolic arguing. Nothing much gets done with this leak of psychic energy in society. This week's discussion has cohosts teZa and Carter Lord offering reasonable, workable solutions for helping to transform the divisiveness in our global society. First, a person decides to be more aware in their own lives. Then they can influence others in their circle and all humankind benefits. Being aware takes effort, but the results are worth it! tezalord.com for more
In this episode of ZLORD, Carter and teZa Lord, married for 30 years, discuss the different ways they use to stay focused in the moment, and experience greater peace as a result. Sometimes they have similar techniques, with different words to describe it. Whether they agree or not, the love they share is the true spirit of their honest conversations. These two are not teachers, just sharer of their truth. tezalord.com for more

teZa continues to heal from a broken leg, and after Carter gets pulled away by one emergency after another she starts the discussion of what's to come:
How to make adversity into a present-moment experience, and grow in patience, self-love, and tolerance ... among the many pluses of courageously facing whatever challenge is before us.
At the onset, teZa speaks of fhe original two " different points of view" the pair might havefelt they had at the beginning is now seen to actually be the same subject: accepting Life as it is.
Carter and teZa Lord discuss how physical challenges are the same and effect us similarly as emotional, psychological, racial, economic, and spiritual hurdles we all get challenged by in life. Carter was blessed to have known Sidney Poitier during both men's early film careers. Here, Carter gives insights how Sidney overcame his lowly, impoverished beginnings to become the giant, the icon that he was when he recently departed us. tezalord.com for more
Happy 2022 means something entirely different to teZa now, who broke her right leg 10 days ago in a freak home accident! Carter and she discuss how so-called "accidents" can be catalysts for great change -- or not. Depending on how we regard such opportunities we meet as freak occurrences, dis-eases, pandemics, chance encounters--numerous ways accidents might be defined--they can effect our desire to ever-expand conscous awareness. teZa reflects on her encounter with a major set-back. Carter brings his vast personal experiences to further highlight teZa's dilemma. tezalord.com for more
teZa is solo today while Carter is off fishing on a boat with the beautiful name of "Sea Love." She invites you to join her on an inward journey that can also be called My-Self Love Check-Up. Ending one phase of life (it's New Year's Eve!) and ready to start another (namely, 2022 begins at midnight) is a glorious time to do a "self-inventory." This we do together in three parts: mental, physical, and of course, spiritual. Because here at ZLORD this is always our favorite part of every discussion, no matter what the subject is--Spirit is our core strength. tezalord.com for more
In this season of honoring the sacred Light within, ZLORD focuses on unity among us all Even though many of us hold different worldviews, our oneness is pervasive. For people who think there's no "fixing" the divide in today's highly charged political climate, teZa and Carter have some good thoughts. Like: Each of us is responsible for our own happiness. Just because we run into someone who has different views, it doesn't mean that has to affect our inner peace. Learning how to accept others is very much like welcoming a rocky path beneath our feet, and appreciating the opportunity it presents of engaging us more. tezalord.com for more
Every moment is an opportunity to experience the magic in life--no matter what's going on. In today's episode (in two parts) 1-Carter and teZa discuss the many ways people choose to stay present, and how being tolerant of others' choices is the highest of choices, and 2- teZa alone talks about using our mental thoughts to heal and empower others who are in need, whenever we can. We mean "Divine Choice" because everything we talk about on ZLORD podcast is about becoming more aligned with the sacred of everyday life. Carter and teZa Lord are both committed to living in the Light: which means individually, and through their life partnership they have made the choice to live from the spiritual core all of us have. They share how the true nature of Divinity is explained best, like a "blueprint"--by following the story of Jesus. A surprising new look on the man who changed everything 2,000 years ago. tezalord.com for more
Cohosts teZa and Carter discuss how the "way the heart thinks" is the way our lives are. Citing this profound wisdom contained in the Old Testament's proverbs, attributing one's heartfelt feelings, rather than one's brain-based thoughts to how a person's life goes, whether peaceful or stressful--is helped by understanding the biological function of the vagus nerve. No longer purely a spiritual principle, "how we think is what we are" is a function of our biology when we understand the body's vagus nerve heart-brain connection. Visit tezalord.com for more
Everywhere, in private and in public places, difficult people are challenging to love. But as spiritual people who strive to see the Oneness in All, no matter who, teZa and Carter Lord discuss how they practice compassion for even those who hurt their hearts the most. Giving helpful ways to do this, and sharing how painful it is to not accept others as they are, is this episode's useful topic. see tezalord.com for more.
Setting goals has been a regular topic for us, Carter and teZa Lord, cohosts of ZLORD podcast. Our discussion here goes to the next obvious, and essentially spiritual step--using whatever time we have wisely. Because without knowing what one's life goals (or for the week, the month, the year, etc) are--it's very hard, and for use we both agree virtually impossible to use our time wisely. Before working with goal, both of us felt our lives were like being pushed around by whim, other's fancy, and a lot of "whatevers." We share here how to take time to go within (10 mins daily for this exercise), get clear, and ask yourself some honest questions. Discover what's most important to you. Discover ... the purpose of your life. tezalord.com for more
teZa and Carter discuss how the main theme of their 3-years of podcasting--once their original camping trip was curtained by the pandemic--is how to achieve inner peace. Bliss. Happiness. And once that state is glimpsed, even for ever so briefly, how can it be cultivated? And eventually, embraced as the permanent state that each one of us can choose to live in. Some call that state enlightenment, but bliss is what it is. tezalord.com for more
A spirited discussion of the most interesting and inspiring book we've read in a long time. James R. Doty MD's autobiography, in which he shares a 4-step process of how to create the life we want. As a young boy of 12, without any support whatsoever (his parents, beyond dysfuctional) the story begins as Jim steps into a magic shop in his local California strip mall. There, he's taught this magical approach to life. Today, this same spiritual approach is called Mindfulness. Meditation. Compassion. Miraculously young Jim fulfills his intentions: of his family not getting evicted; of his becoming a doctor. Later, he meets the Dalai Lama and together, they are changing the world with the CCARE Foundation. For more, let's connect at tezalord.com
Cohost Carter returns after almost a month of teZa podcasting solo. They continue the discussion begun in last episode, of how our perceptions determine what kind of life we live. In teZa's case, she's comfortable thinking of life as a spiritual experience in her human "suit." Carter has similar perceptions, and together they share how even something like the so-called social "divide" promoted by media today is a matter of perception. Find workable solutions to common problems everyone has, from each individual to entire social structures. Spirit is the focus of all ZLORD discussions. see tezalord.com for more
Going solo this episode (Carter's off helping others, as he often is) teZa shares about who and what she is, knowing you too have this same insight about your own self. This is an introduction to the upcoming episode coming next, when Carter and teZa together discuss how we are all One, and that the so-called political/racial/sexual/social-economic "divisiveness" among us is only an illusion, and not the spiritual truth of our earthly existence. see tezalord.com for more.
Carter and teZa Lord have just returned from their honeymoon celebrating 30 years of purposefully-designed spiritual union. They discuss how they, both in their mid-40s, decided that was the only kind of love partnering for them. Discussing many details like: how they arrived at their marriage vows; how raising step-children (for teZa) fit into the plan; how Carter accepts Eastern mysticism into his born-again Christianity; how both decided that, right here and now (on the 2nd honeymoon), they need a new set of vows. And much more in this often hilarious look inside a feisty pair who both love God/Spirit/Source as much as each other. tezalord.com for more
While cohost Carter journeys, teZa speaks solo. She has a lot on her mind, three episodes in the last week! But urgency commands this sharing. Everywhere she turns teZa hears about younger people, more than most others, are feeling lost and confused these days. She can relate. Offering some insights and clear direction, she asks anyone listening to forward this to any person feeling similarly. It's helpful to know an antidote when one is suffering. tezalord.com for more.
teZa solo shares how, once an old negative source within us is identified, how to transform it into a positive NEW creation. This is the 2nd step to Letting Go. Allowing the creative intelligence we all have to flourish, we must destroy as much negativity within our energy field (including unhealthy habits, friends, jobs, environments, etc) so that the creative force of the Universe can propel us ever closer to the LIght of Wisdom. This ... is a spiritual life in action. Action is the result of having awareness, and the acceptance that comes after awareness arises. tezalord.com for more.
While cohost Carter travels, teZa shares how she works at letting go of negative, disturbing occurrences in everyday life. Sometimes it's a personal slight, sometimes an injurious rumor. Sometimes anger over global injustices. To make our lives more full, more complete, we must choose to let go of fear, and therefore we make space for new and better things to arise, like love, creativity, self-worth, new solutions, and true happiness. tezalord.com for more.
Carter (for the first time!) listened to ZLORD podcast. He chose the previous episode, about Truth. Well, he wasn't happy with what he heard; thought things were not clear enough for his liking. So he wants to discuss Truth in more depth. teZa agrees, as any subject is interesting if it relates to understanding Spirit at greater depth. This episode could be: Truth, part 2 but more topics arise, naturally. tezalord.com for more.
Carter and teZa have different ways of expressing their individual understanding, but agree that the universal Truth of Love is the ultimate core of all in existence. Their understanding came through life experiences. They present, sometimes in lively, hot (but always loving) exchanges how they have searched, and each found, this unchanging Truth: the Sacred in All. See tezalord.com for more

In this longer Mind-Stiller teZa shares how she quiets her busy mind, this time in a place she's never been before. She does this to demonstrate that no matter where one is, under what circumstances going on in the outside world, it is possible for virtually anyone to discover the inner place of calm, within one's consciousness. Carter thought he didn't have much to share about boundaries. But when teZa begins about how she had to learn about boundaries early in her sober life, suddenly Carter can relate to this podcast's subject from his own experiences, and has a lot to say. As always, the focus is our spiritual life, but today we talk about more practical matters ... like how to enJOY washing the dishes, accomplishing goals, being true to our selves and not giving away too much to others. Our life-energy is precious! tezalord.com for more
Last episode was teZa's story of how she came to be a God-lover; this week it's Carter's. He uses the word "testimonial" because he identifies as a born-again Christian. One of the many subjects covered in his story is how he, as a single parent of two young children, reconciled marrying teZa, a self-proclaimed Christian Sufi soldier, a mystic. Lots of laughs, and lots of honest introspection from the unique combination of these two souls who love the Divine equally. see tezalord.com for more

Sending us reeling! Carter and teZa Lord offer their methods in their 100th podcast of ZLORD, this time about how they deal with every human life's ubiquitous challenge of "negative emotions." Carter and teZa Lord discuss the spiritual concept of self versus others. This applies to social obligations, being kind and respectful, and in today's ideologically divisive world, letting the "other guy" have their say without judgment. Anti-vaxers is, again, an unavoidable issue. So is "being not-neurotic." Respecting others is part of the healing power of Love. tezalord.com for more.

Here, the two Lords discuss some ways in which they use this spiritual tool, and how it's made their lives so much better. See tezalord.com for more.

ZLORD co-hosts teZa and Carter talk about the "greater good" amounting to choosing a "We" attitude over a personal "I" in terms of receiving the Covid vaccine to help gain universal herd immunity. Offering several examples of reasons that close, holistically-aware friends have put forth (no conspirators!), and resulting intimate conversations among respected members of the Lords' like-minded tribes, the consensus of what's best to do becomes clearly obvious. As always, the focus of ZLORD is to live a more conscious, aware, present, and fulfilling life feeling the Oneness that life's essence, consciousness is. Be sure to read/listen to teZa Lord's ZEN LOVE, a nonfiction narrative about viewing all humankind as a blended family approach, a true recounting of "We-ness": available at Amazon as paperback, Kindle and Audible books.
It's spring, and Easter time, a time of renewal and rebirth. Carter and teZa discuss how it's so important for all of the world's blended family (including each one of us!) to think of ourselves as part of the "We" instead of just a small "me." Especially in light of certain people resisting getting the Covid vax. The discussion rises to the pertinent occasion of the importance of herd immunity.
On her own, teZa talks as she makes ghee on the stove. She's thinking about signs, looking for them, and what they could mean, if anything. As the ghee cooks, she relates several significant Signs that have happened to her recently. Finally, as the ghee finishes, she sums up her feelings surrounding signs, and talks about the yoga classes she has uploaded on her teZa Lord YouTube channel. Carter will return next episode.
ZLORD's cohosts teZa and Carter discuss how important it is to work for happiness, better said with Contentment because that emotional state is "neither this nor that," similar to the Buddhist's Middle Way. Using personal experiences listeners get to share the pitfalls and the heights of this couple's longstanding earnest work toward making joy and service to others their spiritual center.
teZa and Carter, the cohosts of ZLORD, discuss the significance of this special day they're speaking on: the Hindu and Yoga-world auspicious day of Shivaratri. In the eastern yogic tradition of which teZa partakes, the repetition of the name of Shiva, signifying "consciousness" or the Divine in All, has been her many decades-long tradition. Shivaratri is when repeating "the Name" Shiva bestows blessings upon the entire world. Carter's more western Judeo-Christian approach to the Divine doesn't exclude him from respecting and participating in others' ways of honoring the Sacred. They speak of how Native Americans have the same tradition, of prayerfully bestowing blessings upon the entire Earth. ZLORD's East-meets-West pair share how they accept each other's differences, starting with how they revere and speak of "God." See tezalord.com for her 4 books about Oneness.
Cohosts teZa and Carter Lord discuss how every single person has the free will to choose whether to be in the state of love, and BE happy, or conversely, to choose to be in the state of fear (which includes anxiety, anger, confusion, etc.). Everyone has free will. So even if you're imprisoned and your body is in duress, you can still choose to be happy, and exercise your birthright to see the Light of Love all around, and not the darkness of fear. Practical ways to do this are offered. True, it's hard work to be happy, but the rewards of being more aware of our choices is so great.
Everyone's sick of so much negativity! It's now a year of living in the Covid-era and teZa and Carter Lord, cohosts of ZLORD offer a sure-fire way of healing our world's brokenness. Practiced one-person-at-a-time, being kind will, and already IS reversing years of ongoing antagonism that our entire American society is disgusted by. Perhaps the world is too, but here in America we are beginning to find ways to heal our brokenness. Many communities have nonpartisan conversations going, letting everyone express themselves with KINDNESS. If you can't listen to this conversation, please visit CharterForCompassion.org to see how you, too, can be part of helping our divided political world to heal. Starting with each person's choosing to practice the Golden Rule. And speak kind words. Look for teZa's audio book "Zen Love" about how she practiced such healing in her own family setting: available now on Amazon.
Starting with how mixed-up some people make a single word, like "woke," Carter and teZa's conversation here centers around how complicated our world has become. They offer suggestions how to make it more SIMPLE. Everything we do, think, and desire leads us closer to LOVE, the highest form of being human. ACCEPTANCE is where to start. Lots of methods are spelled out for you in teZa's audio book, just released: ZEN LOVE. Not a how-to but a story. Back and forth the two Lords go, offering ways in which to enjoy our busy, getting -ossed or being-bossy, bewildered and OVERWHELMED ... and for some of us ... Better-ing OurSelves kind of life. The pair urges everyone to quietly, KINDLY share their story with another, and then others. This is how our painful social divide will heal. One person sharing their story at a time. This conversation is meant to help, by sharing how two souls keep discovering fulfillment in surprising ways.
Another first on ZLORD podcast! Carter is interviewing (well, sort of) teZa, his co-host because she's just put up a special FREE treat for everyone. Since the pandemic brought hardship to so many, teZa wanted to offer a home practice of the body-mind-spirit kind of yoga she's been doing for over fifty years. Listen to this spirited conversation (always feisty opinions with these two!) about the benefits of a regular yoga practice. Find the videos at tezalord.com and on her YouTube channel.
Every one of us is different. There are also many different ways to approach our spiritual connection with life. In this week's episode teZa and Carter share how theirs are both similar, yet different. Visit tezalord.com for more of who is ZLORD.
The order of the day is UNITY. teZa and Carter Lord, the cohosts of ZLORD discuss how each approaches that important topic. Especially now, it's an urgent discussion since our new President in his inaugural address, asked citizens to put aside their seemingly irreconcilable differences ... and focus on healing and recovery with LOVE. We have to recover from the pandemic, from racial inequity, from economic peril. We implore our listeners to help us and spread Love! Prepared to be amazed! We have fun disagreeing, but our bond is a deep love of Spirit. With pleasure, here's one of our favorite topics! See tezalord.com for more love
Solo on this episode while cohost Carter is away, teZa recounts a true story that'll make you laugh, perhaps wonder at, but definitely be amazed and astounded by!
We all remember how, as kids, every day was an exciting adventure! This pure, unaffected-by-adversity experience is within our grasp, still, for those of us who choose to have it. The choice is simple: focus on positives rather than the negatives of such fluctuating things as the political or material or "ordinary" view of what life's all about. How do we choose? By being aware that we DO HAVE free will and always have a choice about what in life we want to focus on. No matter what's happening on the outside, our interior life can remain closely aligned with the excitement of the extraordinary, the spiritual side of our everyday life. Which we all have access to. It's just that some of us have forgotten how. Or choose to deny that Spirit matters. But, in fact, the spiritual is the most important part of all of our lives. For those of us who don't want to get sucked into the oftentimes messy power-struggles, the dramas of conflict and others' negativity, we can most certainly have a happy life... IF ... we focus on our spiritual power within.
Carter and teZa Lord, the two co-hosts of ZLORD, discuss how they maintain this chosen alignment available to all humans. Besides this insightful conversation, for those who want to cultivate this serene approach to the ordinary day-to-day, teZa offers helpful, short clips (a few minutes long, each) audio guidance for you on her SoundCloud.com/teza-lord
Who would think it? Carter and teZa are both amazed as they contemplate the importance of developing patience. Without patience, a spiritual life is impossible, Carter is just finding out. teZa agrees, and both share how they're doing at practicing this little talked-about spiritual attribute.
Especially in light of what's going on this particular day, January 6, 2021. ZLORD is a spiritual podcast and we do NOT talk politics. Even when the US Capitol is under siege by domestic terrorists, exactly what happened just hours before this episode was recorded. By not focusing on that horrific and unprecedented event, we hope to demonstrate to our listeners how a life based on inner peace can be cultivated. Yes, we knew it was happening. But we chose not to discuss it, not even to say, "It is happening," because that choice would take away from the higher choice, the better choice of the moment. To develop patience.
With a divisive political environment such as we Americans are experiencing to a greater degree than ever, Carter and I believe by developing our spiritual side, we citizens of the world are taking the very best, and highest action we can to help heal our imbalances. Stay tuned to ZLORD and explore how to choose Love over fear. Please visit teZaLord.com to find out more about the "Z" of this podcast.
teZa solo this time, offering a special GIFT (stay for the special ending!) for our ZLORD listeners. She shares how this year was not the worse one, in HER LIFE. Demonstrating what she learned from the actual worse one, decades earlier, when she decided to change her obsessively thrill-seeking life, listeners will be inspired to try her now-spiritual approach. As we all face more unknowns, more changes, collectively going through this Covid pandemic we're in the midst of, let's LEARN from it, and not be beaten-down by it.
Finally, as a special feature, a glimpse into how teZa (always solo, for New Year's Eve) ushers in the next new year, 2021 -- by chanting a holy mantra. Make your life a prayer! Open to the majesty of the natural mind, unfettered. Try it! Instead of raising a glass or popping a cork with others, focus on the Divine within All. All by your Self.
Happy 2021 everyone! May this year show each and every one of us true inner peace and fulfillment, no matter what. Let's try listening to the many lessons Mother Nature has sent us, via Covid. 2021 is the time (the NOW) to change anything that feels "not right." Blessings and good health to all. And yes, please continue to wear your masks!
If you're looking for an "armchair adventure" we invite you to start with Episode 1 of ZLORD and enjoy 6-months of car-and-tent-camping that inspired Carter and me to start talking with the rest of the world, via this podcast. Today, we're exploring mostly the inner journey -- the MOST thrilling adventure of all.

Co-hosts teZa and Carter Lord discuss how there's never "too much" when it comes to looking at, and responding to life from a spiritual perspective. They give numerous examples, both personally and from others' experiences. Perhaps the astronomical event of the past week, the multiple-centuries-rare conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter heralds in a new phase of humankind's understanding, commonly called the "Age of Aquarius." This is the era of humanity's development when, as many sages have predicted for eons, people are forced to acknowledge their spiritual side as equally as they do their worldly, material one. Whether people are changing from the radical shift the Covid pandemic has brought, or ... it's just time to transform our pettiness to something bigger, more compassionate ... we of ZLORD certainly hope so! We wish you and yours a most blessed season of Light and Love, and health to everyone! We love you all.
With recent conspiracy theories trying to usurp elections, covid vaccines and many other facets of human life, in this conversation Carter and teZa, the Lord cohosts, discuss evil and how it permeates daily life. And what we can do about not falling prey to its falsehoods. Love is our focus. How to discover and maintain the present moment, the place where Love abides within all our hearts, is our purpose for communicating with the world. You can understand by listening to us, that we, too, have to work hard for the happiness we want! We're just beginning to learn how. Whatever we've learned we wish to share with you. Sending you Light and Love, teZa (find more of my visionary efforts on tezalord.com)
Dr. Deeh (Dorothy) Israel is back with us for a fourth installment of her magnificent and intriguing oral history. Carter, my co-host, and I joke that we're going to rename our podcast the "D'Zlord" podcast ... making it much more resonant to the purpose of recording for all posterity Deeh's remarkable life story.
From Harlem and Bed-Sty in the heart of troubled Black times, with extreme prejudice and crippling racism around every corner, Deeh has always focused on Love as her way. You can tell from her voice, that this lady has learned that the uplifting energy of Love replaces any fear or misunderstanding that might fester in a human heart, whether Black, White or anyone's.
Here, Deeh shares with us some of the more well-known Black and White people she's run into, befriended, and had interactions with. The conversation then turns to the current project that Deeh and Carter are involved in together, in our hometown of St. Augustine. Blacks and Whites are working on this project right now.
Little known outside of our small historical town of Saint Augustine, Florida, is a historical site called Fort Mose. In pre-Revolutionary War days, in the mid-1700s, Blacks were invited by the Spanish to come and settle in this specially built-for-them Fort, if they could but make it through the rough tangle of gator-infested swamps, gun-wielding bounty hunters, and marauding, warring factions between Spanish and English troops who were fighting for the right to "own" the New World of America at the time.
The story of Fort Mose is riveting. One that Tyler Perry should be making a major feature movie about.
After this one, you might wish to listen to all three of Deeh's previous podcasts with us, to give an all-inclusive view of a life lived in pursuit of Love and Justice, and service to others: Deeh's long and fruitful life. A truly remarkable women, we are honored to have her as our guest and hope to continue having conversations with Deeh for many more podcasts to come.
Everyone wants to be happy. But some of us don't know how, or have forgotten how very simple it is to choose to BE content with "What Is."
In this week's episode co-hosts teZa and Carter Lord give examples of how they use the simple formula of "Awareness, Acceptance, Action" to identify when a shift has to occur. First comes the recognition that a change is necessary (the Awareness part, from paying attention to when we feel "bad'); next comes realizing things aren't going to change on their own (the Acceptance part); and only then, after going through the first two steps comes finally being able to make a decision to change (Action! Sometimes this "Action" part is to take no action, but that, too, is a conscious choice).
Of course all this about being happy is more challenging that it sounds. It has to be, right? No, really it's that simple. To choose to Be happy. Being able to make that choice only comes after awareness had awakened within ourselves.
Having patience and courage to change are beginning steps for anyone wishing to experience real and long-lasting happiness -- even in the middle of a worldwide pandemic with all its accompanying annoyances, aggravations, hardships and lacks.
We hope our discussion lightens the load many are feeling in these challenging times we're all going through together.
This episode is dedicated to our Acoma Native American friends, and all First Nation Peoples who are suffering terribly, more than most in this dangerous Covid-19 time.
The world is often seen as a highly competitive arena. Everyone faces inner feelings of worthiness when we compare ourselves to the outer world. In our pre Covid-pandemic society, even more was made of a person's public persona. We definitely were (not so much today) a "celebrity culture."
Today, anyone who wants to be can be a Rock Star! An overnight viral sensation! Thanks to social media, YouTube, and the internet, in general. The pandemic has made us all more creative and that's definitely one of the perks of our cultural re-set.
We in the creative field (Carter is a filmmaker, teZa is artist/author/spiritual activist) know how important it is to believe in one's own worth, the "goodness" of our true Inner Self. To trust that what we "tell ourselves" is true, and not based on what others around us tell us is the focus of today's discussion.
The conversation begins, as always, with our own experiences. Both of us have noticed how our spiritual growth has expanded to recognize whenever "bad" or Self-judgemental thinking enters our mind. This type of "negative thinking" is the "Barracuda" of this episode's mysterious title.
teZa and Carter Lord, the two co-hosts of ZLORD podcast, discuss the way they'd found WORKS to not only maintain the highest level of personal happiness for each of them, but also to get along with others, especially another person whose opinion sharply contrasts theirs in our highly divided society as today's political climate sadly is.
In order to do both, stay personally content and get along socially, respecting others' opinions no matter what that might be, the two offer how they, along with minions of others who practice a mindful way of living, achieve this difficult balance in these enormously challenging times.
To help heal the social divide in America today, the two offer their assistance of how they've learned to stay hopeful. They offer suggestions how to mend the rip of our human fabric, by discussing how they view each and every person as having the same "Divine" spark within them. And this alone, seeing "others" as equally children of the Divine, warrants not only their being respected ... but, in Carter's words, "worthy of our adoration."
"This is awfully hard to do!" teZa honestly proclaims. Carter agrees, but offers how, since he's been practicing this method of non-judgment, he's been able to let go of very deep resentments that used to plague him. He gives personal examples of how this approach works, this spiritual approach to life.
To maintain happiness takes work, they both agree. And they're both willing to do what's necessary to lead a full and satisfied life, even in the midst of so much conflict. They ask, "Are you?" Send your comments, we'd love to hear form you! zlordpodcast@gmail.com
Change is a choice. Whether it's a national choice, a vote of presidential change, as we've witnessed just now in America--or our personal wish to change. Change begins with being AWARE of needing to change. Then, ACCEPTANCE that a better change is possible, over and over, until--ACTION can take place, which takes ... COURAGE.
teZa and Carter Lord discuss the step-by-step process of how they work with change, and show others how any change a person wants -- is possible.
Waiting for the election's results teZa and Carter discuss all of life's other uncertainties. We express our free choice, but we must accept the powerful expression of the Divine. Sometimes that comes as a ferocious storm. Sometimes as an unexpected divorce, disease, or crisis--or election result. No matter what happens, the Divine aka God is in charge. As long as we approach our different material aspects--economic, political, way of thinking--trusting this universal principle, we can have a full and satisfactory life.
Today, we apply this to the uncertainty of the presidential election which is unprecedented in its historical importance. People refer to its outcome as "determining the soul of our nation." We discuss that, too. How we can be politically-minded folks and still honor the spiritual side of our human nature, along with our physical and mental aspects. By accepting the power of the unseen forces ... the Divine in all things.
It's presidential vote week! One week from today we'll know who won. For some of us it will be a time to celebrate. For others, it will be depressing news. No matter what happens, your vote counts!
And also, what you THINK counts!
Before an act, a thought arises in our consciousness.
If you think positively, no matter what the results of any situation in life, you will be able to continue in a state of Grace. But if you hold negative thoughts, fear-filled, angry, conflicted or blaming, your own life will never be satisfactory, let alone the situation facing an entire community, nation, and our blended global family.
In this week's podcast I (teZa Lord) alone discuss the importance of watching our thoughts, and keeping as positive as we can--no matter what. I read an excerpt from my book "Zen Love" to illuminate the importance of
We never know what's going to happen next in life. That's what makes this, our single life and all our lives combined, the magical mystery tour it is. Be in tune with the invisible power that is YOURS and be aware of your thoughts, words, acts. Keep them positive. Correct yourself kindly, when you realized you've gone astray from the path of higher awareness.
BE LOVE
See you next week!
teZa
Co-hosts teZa and Carter Lord discuss how they work with setting goals. Goals for happiness, goals for work, goals for even family interactions.Even big LIfe goals Including how, as teZa tells Carter, "I manifested you," on this, their 29th wedding anniversary. Both discuss how they individually work with goal-setting. Carter gives a thorough step-by-step exactly how to discover one's current life's goals, by using the sure-fire method he and teZa have used for years. The conversation ends by both committing to "do" the exercise cited (which admittedly, they hadn't done for a while) and invite any listener to join them, to discover more about their heart's true calling, and ... their life's true purpose.
Carter's back and teZa, his cohost, feels like he's almost a "guest" because he's been absent for quite a few episodes (while she's been "interpreting" and reading her visionary book WE ARE ONE the last four episodes).
Carter explains what's on his mind about this topic, "What's Really Important," and then teZa does. A back-and-forth discussion ensues about what they share, a three-decade-long couple, as being most important. Everyone is encouraged to look within their own life passions, to determine what's most worthy of dedicating your life's energies to. Everyone's idea of what's "important" is different, of course. This couple is happy to share with the world that, even though they are very different in many ways, what they enthusiastically share is their love for Spirit, Higher consciousness ... also called God consciousness, or good ol' God (although that Name is a highly charged one for some folks, so ZLORD tends to shy away from using It).
This episode is the fourth and final installment of "We Are One" -- a verse n' vision artbook teZa narrates the poetic, scant text and describes each of the visionary images comprising this gem-like book honoring Oneness that she created. The previous three episodes of ZLORD podcast make, with this fourth, the completion of an intimate audial interpretation of this hardcover exploration of Unity Consciousness. Published in 2006 the 83-page, black-paper-as background vividly colorful art experience (as book) is available on Amazon along with Lord's three other publications, all three of which are illustrated nonfiction narratives.
On ZLORD's next episode teZa will offer the beginning of another audio book treat. "Zen Love" is the title of a 3-generational love story that reflects the multi-diversity of our contemporary blended family of humankind. Look for the title of this book with its accompanying number to stay up-to-date with the story's sequenced narration. Anyone who wishes a copy of Zen Love may purchase a paperback or Kindle at Amazon or anywhere online where books are sold.
For wondering regular listeners of ZLORD, Carter, teZa's co-host, will appear whenever he is able, in between his other projects of creating videos, writing, and working with Fort Mose, the special project commemorating the first freed Black community in precolonial times, in what would become Florida in the U.S.A. This incredible project that Carter's involved in was discussed in previous podcasts. (Look for the 3 episodes with our Black 95-year-old PhD friend.)
If anyone would like further information about teZa Lord's art, writing, and spiritual activism please visit her website: tezalord.com This bizarre year 2020 has been a busy one for her, with lots for her to do being sequestered during the Covid-19 pandemic. Look for her next illustrated, nonfiction narrative book to be published next year. Join her mailing list on tezalord.com for updates about her work.
With Carter busy elsewhere, teZa continues with Part 3 of narrating/describing her visionary artbook "We Are One." Previous episodes present the introduction (Part 1) and beginning images (Part 2). Artist reads, and writer interprets the vibrant visual images in a calming bedtime-story fashion, both roles played by the book's author, teZa Lord. This special ZLORD audio book presentation of We Are One will conclude with Part 4.
Next up on ZLORD will be an audio book of a nonfiction narrative, "Zen Love," a 3-generational love story written and illustrated by teZa.
Hello from teZa! Here, I continue narrating my own visionary artbook that was published several years ago. In the previous podcast I read "We Are One"'s short introduction to this linen-bound, 83-pages of vision n' verse, documenting my true experiences of feeling the interconnectedness with all that is. I thought, since our podcast fans seem to love our quirky offerings, this to be an interesting way to interpret art: having a visual artist interpret their own creative work using ... only words. For many artists, this would be a feat comparable to climbing Mount Everest! But I am both a writer and artist, so this is fun!
Many fans of "We Are One" (available on Amazon along with my three other books) tell me they use each of the book's colorful 2-page spreads as a focus for their daily meditation. The book is 10 inches square, and can be propped up for viewing since its hardcover. Each page-spread, with its short text to help viewers "dive more deeply" into its deeply spiritual meaning, brings about unforeseen, unexpected reactions. I hope you enjoy this special presentation which will take one or two more episodes to complete.
For those wondering, my cohost Carter is unable to join us because he's currently preoccupied with his new venture of making video shorts. You'll hear more about those when he joins us next.
This episode begins something new here on ZLORD podcast. In between our usual conversations, either with cohosts teZa and Carter Lord, or with a special guest, teZa will be reading and "interpreting" visual images of books she has published. This is something that has been asked for by many of our listeners. It's very soothing to be read to, and we hope you enjoy this special way of receiving an audio-book. Look for each book's title with the next consecutive number, to hear the next installment.
This first book is an 83-page artbook. "We Are One" is a handsome, 10-inch square, linen-bound volume, with exuberantly colorful images and silver-text printed on entirely black, heavy paper.
Start off listening to "We Are One"'s introduction, .. Pause ... Take a Breath. The information you hear is pertinent to understanding Oneness. teZa offers an intimate glimpse of Oneness she experienced first-hand.
The next segment of this audio-book on ZLORD podcast will offer teZa's describing with words, the images that she herself created. Each vivid image (that you will "see" in your mind's eye) has a short text, a poetic insight as a means of better "diving into" each unique vision. Many fans of "We Are One" use each page-spread, with its unique visionary image and short poem, as a daily focus on meditation. The images are very inspiring and calming.
Be sure to check back for our next episode! After "We Are One" is completed, will be the audio-book of teZa's nonfiction narrative "Zen Love." This is a multi-generational saga illustrating how our world is truly one blended family, each of our separate groups. True to her writer/artist nature, teZa illustrates all her nonfiction works, and she will describe each of the black-and-white illustrations interspersed throughout her books.
For those who are interested, "In the I," the first nonfiction narrative published by teZa, is offered as an audible book on Amazon, as well as paperback. For this reason, it will be the last of her audio-books offered here on ZLOR podcast. The book after "Zen Love" read for you will be "Hybrid Vigor," an interconnected series of essays about the evolutionary trajectory of humankind that we're all on.
All teZa's books are available on Amazon.
Carter will return for another exciting conversation with teZa very soon! He's involved with video and writing projects presently and can't commit to ZLORD podcast except at spontaneous times. We hope to catch him real soon! He sends his love to every one of the podcast's listeners. Be well and stay safe during this dangerous Covid pandemic.
In this insightful episode, Dr. Deeh (Dorothy) Israel starts us off remembering that this day of our recording, August 28, happens to be the 57th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's giving his "I Have a Dream" speech at the Lincoln memorial during the March on Washington, attended by hundreds of thousands! On this day, 57 years ago, a sea of people of all colors and cultures came together in celebration of Human Rights. It was a completely nonviolent protest which Deeh remembers as "lovely ... and utterly peaceful." Serendipitously, this one here happens to be the 57th episode of ZLORD podcast, and -- by the time Deeh, Carter and I, the cohosts, have said all we've needed to say -- our taping was (unedited!) a remarkably coincidental 57 minutes! Do you think the Universe is trying to tell us something, in numbers, folks?
Twelve is considered a pretty significant number. Twelve months and zodiac signs. Twelve apostles. Twelve in a dozen. Maybe 12 is about transformation? If anyone knows, please let us know: zlordpodcast@gmail.com
Dr. Deeh then begins her reminiscence where she left off on Part 2 of her poignant oral history, right up to her World War II experiences in Harlem as young woman running home to the sound of practice air-raid sirens.
Carter fields questions to direct her attention Deeh's attention once in a while. I had the very important job of directing the hand-held mic, keeping the appropriate distance from each speaker, as the three of us sat together, not-quite, but almost, social distanced.
Deeh focuses on her professional life as a social, and then mental health worker in New York City's Harlem, then Brooklyn's Bed-Sty, and finally, after earning her PhD, as professor at Stony Brook University on Long Island. She was enlisted as the first Black faculty in the mental health department. This honored position Deeh held for 23 years, to which she drove herself, hours each day, from her long-time cherished home in Harlem.
Deeh shares about the importance of travel, especially for young Blacks, and how it's necessary to expand one's otherwise limited viewpoint. She's been all over the States, and she's seen a good bit of the world first hand. In this episode she shares about some amusing and some racially painful experiences in England. We'll hear more travel stories from the Caribbean and other spots she's visited for our next installment of Deeh's life story. What a honor, to know this lovely woman who has experienced the horror of discrimination but holds true to being the exemplification of Love itself. She's a true believer of Oneness, a devoted follower of the highest of ideals.
We plan on continuing to share personal experiences from other people on ZLORD, to help promote the diversification of everyone's becoming intimately familiar with other's viewpoints and culture that might not be so readily available, to commemorate this special time in history as we become more united, more One. We envision speaking with people from all walks of life, of all color and origins, ordinary folks just like you and me.
Also, I (teZa) plan on sharing my already published books, for those of you who are fans of audial books. The BOOK episodes will be easily identified (by TITLE) for any who'll want to binge-listen to one of my four books. For those who want to hear one now, "In the I" is available as an audible book on Amazon. These readings on ZLORD will take place in-between other episodes in which Carter and I, with or without a special guest, continue having our loving-kind conversations (even though we sometimes disagree).
Blessings to all! And Stay Well during this difficult time of the Covid pandemic raging through our world.
Love and LIght, teZa
This week's subject might be tough for lots of folks. People who have issues surrounding death might want to skip this episode. Because we, teZa and Carter Lord look compassionately deep inside the really hard letting-go involved with death, both by the person "doing the dying" and the loved ones who are left behind to grieve.
During this time of Covid, death is on everyone's mind more than usual. Today's episode we discuss the recent passing of Carter's dear friend from his early school days, who had cancer. What Peter demonstrated to all who knew him, was the grace of acceptance, especially in the most intensely difficult time of all: facing one's own final days on Earth.
LIfe is hard, there's no easy way through or out of it. But here we offer hope based on our own experiences: that acceptance of a Divine Source of Inspiration -- a Higher Power (whatever name you call it doesn't matter), some form of sacredness -- is essential in order for we mere human mortals to make sense out of the often overwhelming incongruities of life on Earth. Without accepting the Sacred in our everyday mundane existence, life is not only harder, but it's often chaotic, depressing and fraught with fears and confusion. Many people substitute politics for religion for this very reason, to try and make sense out of the incongruous Mystery of Life.
This episode starts with a conversation about physical death, but ends with an odd "right hand turn" into what's defined as the end of civility, the so-called "death" of respect that appears to be very real in today's ultra-divisive atmosphere here in the United States. This podcast suggests that people start talking more about our culture's loss of respect. We offer how we can all participate in helping our culture heal: by recognizing that disrespect is what's really happening, and by this awareness allay and hopefully reverse this horribly destructive trend. We need to have more private conversations about how to end disrespect. We must start being more civil and therefore more compassionate, by recognizing the need for people to accept each other's differences. This trend begins with discussing this tender subject, right here. Civility can become a new national pasttime, right up there with celebrity-watching and waiting for organized sports to fully resume.
We end with remarking how ZLORD podcast's first guest (she's appearing for the third time in the next episode), Dr. Dorothy Israel, is the "very picture of civility." We hope by bringing this remarkable person's oral history to listeners that more people have an inside view of how almost 100 years of living as a Black woman (she's 94!) resulted in such a loving and kind person as Deeh is, even after having faced a lifetime of racial challenges just as any other Black person living in America today has.
We hope you'll share with your friends the in-depth and profoundly important subjects we approach here on ZLORD. And please do send us a note if you have any comments or suggestions. zlordpodcast@gmail.com
Going solo teZa focuses on gratitude in as many ways as colors shimmer in an expansive rainbow. Offering hope and love as the positive "charges" our world needs in order to spiritually transform, she reveals some pretty remarkable analogies from her own life experiences. Things Pretty Freaking Incredible, actually! Witnessing Death, Witnessing Space Ships, for teasers. Without her more reserved co-host teZa lets it rip this time! Let us know if you like her solo sharing or prefer the yin/yang of the ZLORD duet, with Carter, who'll be back next podcast. Topics covered in this episode include techniques for focusing on protecting and healing (from fear, uncomfortable feelings, diseases such as Covid, etc.); being happy to be alive even when challenged; knowing we are NOT ALONE ... either with whatever we're going through or ... in the most vastly general respect. We are ALL ONE, not alone. Hope and laughter and LOVE is the cure for all, the best mind-body-soul medicine. Spread the JOY!
Feisty and energized, the two Lords of ZLORD, teZa and Carter are at it again, on their own. In between back-to-back sessions with their special guest of two previous podcasts -- in which she offers the world her unique worldview, Dr. Dorothy Israel will return to continue offering us a unique oral history of her life as, first, a Black girl in Harlem, then as a Black mental health and social worker in Manhattan -- the Lords' conversation here centers on how every single person's life story, no matter how "ordinary" is important.
"What is success?" they ask and define. Not by celebrity status, peer acknowledgment or financial sums, but the feeling of worthiness each of us has about our own special place in the world.
They recount the story of one friend, who as she was preparing to leave this world from terminal cancer, went to Cracker Barrel, an odd thing for a staunch vegetarian to do. There, everyone Shushila saw, was aglow with "the spark of the Divine" or "God Within."
The two Lords banter about how society forces us to question our levels of success, especially when dealing with the public, like artists and filmmakers, as our hosts are, have to do. Everything a creative person puts out is scrutinized by the public. But each artist, shared so honestly here, has to find success for themself in their own assessment of their creative achievements. Success comes from within, not from without.
Also discussed is the need to address racism more here on the podcast, in this particular time in human history. Now is the time of the "opened" door through which many are allowed access to know and understand how others of color truly feel about their own special lives.
Each life is special. And each person's life story is important. We'd love to know about yours. Write us at zlordpodcast@gmail.com so we can share your story with the world.
Dr. Dorothy (Deeh) Israel has returned to ZLORD podcast! We welcome her reflections, memories, insights and just good old-fashioned darn good stories about a side of life we rarely hear firsthand:
What it's like growing up as a self-proclaimed "colored girl" in an achingly prejudiced America of the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
Deeh's experiences are worthy turning over our mic (hand-held by teZa for this and every podcast) for as many times as we can convince her to return and share with us and our listeners. This woman bravely shares her stalwart optimism and loving acceptance with us. She doesn't hold any truths back, especially when she had to face the terrible hardships and insults of hate and ignorance, the systemic racism we hear about in the News but Deeh so graphically describes here, with her two trustworthy and respected friends. Carter and I know Deeh from our sweet little Episcopal Church, St. Cyprian's, in St. Augustine, Florida.
Beginning in her childhood in the Great Depression and then as a teenager during the curfews of World War II, always living in Harlem after her parents met and married after immigrating from the Caribbean, Deeh poignantly describes her amazing life's highs and lows, sorrows and joys. This is an unedited oral history of a truly remarkable Black woman.
This episode is focused on her girlhood and young woman's memories. With prodding, she even tells us about the time she refused a dinner date from John Lewis, a much younger man than Deeh at that time. "He was a treasure," Deeh reminisces along with the entire nation; Lewis' funeral took place just the day before this recording.
With Deeh, laugh at her infallible achievements, cringe at how horribly she was treated by racists who were even her college professors in the 50s, as we celebrate our friend's eventful life. Her professional life was dedicated to helping others in the field of mental health and social work.
A natural storyteller, we know our listeners will want to share this special treat of Deeh's intimate retelling of personal revelations with all, to help spread the message, the same as John Lewis's, that she emulates: Love is the healing balm of all of humankind's ills. We hope Deeh will return as many times as she's able to continue her valuable life's story. In between, she walks two miles on our beautiful beach everyday, "the cure who what ails anybody," she laughs. Wouldn't the be nice if Covid-19 went away with everybody taking nice long walks. God Bless the world during this hard time we're all going through!
This week we take a look, Carter and I, teZa Lord, at a golden opportunity made more available, during the disruption of "normal life" due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many folks know their inner Self. But some keep their minds too busy, and their bodies too, to explore the spiritual side of everyone's human nature. The so-called sacred Inner Voice is only heard when a person decides they want to know that part of themself. Wanting is the first step. The next part is ... learning to get quiet, and to listen.
Sillness, listening, then perhaps asking -- this is how we Open the Door to our profoundly satisfying inner lives. This is how we can "hear" or "feel" the still small voice within.
Whether spiritual or emotional or physical, all our needs become integrated when we make the effort to tap our inner connection to Divine Intelligence, which some call God. Our inner voice is often "felt" as a "gut instinct." Paying attention to this part of ourselves is our choice.
And what better time than right NOW, during the pandemic, when so many of us are restricted in outside activities. The "inner world" within us is vast in scope and endlessly entertaining in subtle, fulfilling, yet happiness-producing ways.
We urge everyone to try listening to the stillness within. We offer a short exercise here as to "how to" tap this inner experience.
Carter and I plan to welcome back Dr. Dorothy Israel to our next podcast (see the previous ZLORD episode #51 for Deeh's first visit), when we'll hear the continuation of this wonderful opportunity of personal experiences shared so honestly, as only this beautiful 95-year-old (sharp as a lovable tack) Black woman like Deeh, our dear pal, does.
Dr. Dorthy Israel, our good friend "Deeh" agreed to share with Carter and me the real inside truth she's experienced throughout her long life, regarding the often misrepresented, or fragmented history of what it's like "Being Black in Modern America." Her story spans almost an entire century! Deeh met Eleanor Roosevelt when she was a young woman when the First Lady came to visit her Harlem school, a remarkable event that Deeh likens to "unbelievable" for the times. Deeh lived in the same neighborhood as the jazz great, Duke Ellington. Selected for her regal bearing and eloquence, she represented the United States as an ambassador to the governments of Caribbean nations. In the U.S. she crossed paths with influential Blacks as well as Whites: Harlem Renaissance writers, national and state politicians like Nelson Rockefeller, and rubbed shoulders with entertainers such as Billy Holiday. Always looking for ways to help her fellow human, Deeh's life was, and is still, about serving others no matter what color their skin, creed, or culture.
Deeh is retired here in St. Augustine, but spent her entire professional career in New York City after getting her formal education. Born and raised and working mostly as a social worker in Harlem, she also was a counselor and then manager of an innovative mental health clinic in Bed-Sty, both predominantly Black communities that face every challenge imaginable to humanity. Deeh knew that knowing "others" was important to know herself better, so she traveled extensively throughout America, Europe, Africa, and the West Indies, and many other places.
Currently Carter works with Deeh (both as volunteers) on a project to commemorate the first all-Black community in the New World, named Fort Mose. Today, a modern, high-tech museum stands on the site of the former wooden Fort, which is now in ruins. A campaign is underway to rebuild the original Fort that was given entirely to Blacks in 1738 by the Spanish, who owned Florida at the time. During those hard slave-years, any Black who could make it through the almost impenetrable terrain were granted freedom and given a safe place to live at Fort Mose. Deeh and Carter and I, teZa, agree this historical site could be the most important symbol of Freedom and Hope in the U.S. today.
Deeh will return to share with ZLORD as many times as she wishes, so we can document her incredible story for all the world to hear. Besides being a published author, she's a wonderful speaker. This feisty woman is a force to be reckoned with, and, as Carter says, "She's pretty cute, too!"
Carter returns as teZa and he talk about how challenging it is to maintain their connection to the here and NOW, the principle subject discussed, no matter what "outer circumstances" are happening to the cohosts. Staying calm and peacefully accepting of the NOW has been harder, especially since the Covid pandemic has struck such a dent in the fabric of the blended family of humankind.
Carter admits how this week he succumbed to anger and "lost it" even though he's been consciously working to stay in the NOW. teZa can relate, and helps to bring the focus more inwardly, reminding us "how" to stay in that sublime, spiritual state of Oneness, which is everyone's choice to experience (or not).
The choice of staying in the NOW (neither in the past or the future) is not being in denial, but choosing to focus on the spiritual side of life. This pertains to the inner state of ourselves and others. Choosing to embrace the NOW is saying "Look further within our Beingness than the hardships that occur on the outer regions of life." Both Lords agree that choosing whichever state, having positive or negative thoughts (being in acceptance or not, of any given situation) is up to each of us using our will power. Exterior circumstances cannot shake the peaceful steadiness of the NOW.
With each new situation, new choices arise before us. Continuously, each moment of each day we get to choose how to direct our personal energy by being aware of our thoughts. Every thought is filled with energy. Combined, all humans, by using our focused consciousness alone, are actively helping alleviate suffering by contributing our invisible but POWERFUL energy of thought. The power of thought is how we can help others who are suffering. Prayer is one way. But having the intention (keeping our thoughts positive) is all it takes to contribute healing energy. We are helping ourselves and others to get through hard times by seeing the positive side of things, instead of latching on to ever-present fears of others, and our own not-yet-released negative, fearful feelings.
Getting through this hard time together, is discussed with many tools suggested. Compassion and empathy are explored, and attempts at understanding their subtle differences are offered. The lively conversation ends with a meditative universal healing ... a visual and verbal exploration led by teZa in hopes of instilling the positive choice of believing in the healing power of Love that we all have, right here, right NOW.
teZa solo discusses the benefits of a regular meditation practice, responding to a question from a listener. Send in any comments, suggestions, questions to ZLORDpodcast@gmail.com so she and Carter can interact with all you lovely people! Sending kindness, protection, and good health to all in these scary times. Carter will be back next podcast, and we plan on having our very first guest, via Zoom, so please do check back with us. We only talk about the spiritual aspects of life. No politics. No arguing (well, we try our best!). Mostly shared is how much we love the magical, intensely powerful and real non-material side of life. Some call that Spirit, others the Source, others, Nature ... Its Name goes on and on. Words are spiritual energy! We try to use ours well to spread Love and Positive Thoughts. Come learn about us!
Last podcast it was teZa's solo turn, explaining racism through her eyes. Check out "Am I a Racist" if you wish. This week it's Carter's turn to share his deepest thoughts about what each of us can do to guarantee the end of racism. Both the Lords of ZLORD podcast agree: Love is the answer that will heal this riff, and every other challenge presented to humankind. One challenge at a time, unconditional Love is the healing every individual needs, as well as the collective of our global human blended family. We are truly all One.
teZa, alone--and by necessity nakedly honest--asks herself. She urges all listeners to do the same.
Carter and teZa Lord, the co-hosts of ZLORD discuss the many ways in which the Covid-19 pandemic is affecting our world. In every way possible, that's how. The key to maintaining calm and a measure of happiness during this stressful time is to remember to keep our attention focused on what's right before us. Staying centered in the NOW is the key to developing and maintaining inner peace, no matter what catastrophes, hardships, and miseries might be whirling around us. The inner life, the spiritual life, is ours to choose.
Solo host this time while Carter's busy elsewhere, teZa Lord shares some personal insights about combating times of fear. The choice is always ours: opening to better, happier, more elevated heights ... or not. The deepest, most satisfying adventure of all awaits us within. Fact: The entrance to the inner adventure is easy, and always your choice. Choose to embrace joy or ... well ... it's not a pretty picture: fear, confusion, anger, etc. Once a door to higher realms has been opened, it never closes again. Balancing mental, physical and spiritual is the name of this game of Life.
Carter and teZa, the co-hosts of ZLORD, demonstrate how, in the course of their 3-decade long partnership, they arrive peacefully to accepting each other's opinions, even while discussing very volatile topics. In this case ... the subject is how to be cool and calm during the stress of the Covid pandemic. Funny, eh? That such a basic desire, which every person alive shares, deep down inside themselves--to know inner peace--can cause these two to sometimes comically, sometimes agressively banter as they do. That's what makes this podcast filled with drama rather than exposition. In many ways, the pair of Lords in ZLORD are opposites: Christian and eastern mystic is just one of their different ways of expressing what is jointly held most dear: to live close to Spirit. Here they demonstrate (with no edits) how, by accepting the other guy's point of view, they have learned to successfully navigate the often challenging waters of their deep commitment to knowing, and honoring the Sacred in everyday life. Hopefully, others will be inspired to listen to people with different opinions more, by hearing the honest, sincere, and sometimes comical back-and-forth of teZa and Carter Lord. Comments are always welcome. Please send to zlordpodcast@gmail.com
Along the same note of last week's conversation about "Cooperation," Carter and teZa Lord, the co-hosts of ZLORD, elaborate how something that seems not as "spiritual" as cooperating is, in actuality, among life's highest truths. For not only a peaceful society, but a peaceful life for each individual. Certainly cooperation is the first step toward living a truly spiritual life instead of a self-centered one. We cite our own personal examples, and how difficult it's been, changing old habits into new better ones. It's hard to stop name-calling, but we plea for anyone interested in having inner peace, to not engage in this bad habit. It just damages a person's own possibilities for happiness.
Already it's 7 weeks in isolation! We have plenty to do so Carter and I are not feeling at all "out of sorts," we're blessed in that way. Maybe the six-months of car-and-tent camping (the reason we started podcasting, to document our trip) was a "rehearsal" for the self-imposed restrictions we're all now experiencing. Our talk's subject this week is how a spiritual life starts. Cooperation seems an unlikely place to think affecting our spiritual development, a concept we've only recently come to realize is so important, and true. It's an odd concept, at first glance. But the more one realizes that ALL everywhere is God, Spirit, Consciousness, and that we are all manifestations of the invisible sacred energy that unites us -- then it's easier to understand that cooperation, seeing "God in Each Other" is very necessary for an individual's understand themselves as a part of the spiritual entirety." We discuss how cooperation is also imperative to have a harmonious society. We start off discussing the resistance to "mask up" that many of our fellow Floridians exhibit. This is a deep subject, one we discuss at length (this is the longest podcast we've ever made!). Beginning, trying, starting again ... these are the road-signs along the spiritual path. Everything starts with Cooperation.
While taking a walk in their neighborhood, teZa and Carter discuss how the sudden shift the entire world has been forced to take, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the abrupt halt to "normal life," has changed them, personally. Along the way they run into (of all things!) a wish-fulfilling tree, at exactly the moment they're talking about how art, "Being Creative," plays such an important role in human evolution. As always, the Lords try to see the positive side of things.
The Lords discuss the essence of why they are podcasting. In the beginning, back in June 2019 it was to document their 6-month car-and-tent camping trip, to explore Oneness through their closeness with Nature, to the exclusion of everyday pressures, demands, activities. Now, like the rest of the world, Covid-19 has changed everything. Now the couple is sharing what they think with the world in a more soul-ful manner, because even though they still have Nature right outside their window (a visiting bird can be heard in the background) the looming threat of total, abrupt change in everyone's idea of what society is, warrants a more thoughtful look at ... "Why?" And the answer keeps coming around to ... Surrender. Surrender to the moment. Surrender to the need to change. Surrender to being ready for anything! This is what the pandemic is presenting to each and everyone of us who has a connection to our inner self, our spiritual side. Comments welcome at zlordpodcast@gmail.com
Holed-up for the 4th week, as many others are also, teZa and Carter discuss how they're determined to find joy out of a situation that some might only see as suffering. Subjects arise as diverse as News from Washington state about composting bodies being the best solution of burial for the planet's environment; keeping our healthy bodies fit with planned meals and regular exercise; how a meditation practice helps keep us sane in this time of social distancing. The BIG question though, is: are we ready to die? It's not a scary thought, just a practical one these days. There's lots of laughs in discussing all random thoughts, with no maudlin fears. Death is just another of life's many possibilities, the couple agrees. But, it's better to be prepared than not, so why not talk about it?
The Lords, teZa and Carter start off somewhat awkwardly, bumbling around trying to address a BIG issue by bringing it down to the personal level. Labels aren't useful, they quickly determine. Attempting to discuss the needed sacrifices asked by all society during this unprecedented social and economic shutdown due to the worldwide spread of the Coronavirus, they start by talking about the sacrifices they've made in their own lives. Then, finally, letting go of labels, they can now relate this topic to our joined global crisis, in hopes that it offers some comfort and support to any who are in distress during these challenging times.
During this challenging time of enforced social restriction and encouraged shelter-in-place, teZa and Carter discuss how they manage to stay content. They share ways in which others who might be experiencing worry, anxiety, fear or other strong emotions can find inner peace, as they are committed to. It takes work! It's not always easy to be happy, joyous, free within one's own Self. But with effort, any one can. Here the Lords talk about their past "monkey minds" and how they are, continuously, maintaining their inner journey, the most important adventure of all. With every crisis is an opportunity, and the worldwide disastrous epidemic of Covid-19 can--in the end, when we're out the other side of its spread and deathly threat--prove to be the very catalyst the world needs in order to effect a massive transformation. These times signal a call to go within and explore the inner journey, the spiritual side of our human nature. ZLORD offers simple ways in which this can be achieved.
So quickly, the world has changed! We're right in the middle of a global pandemic with the spread of Covid-19 now hitting our small town in Florida. teZa and Carter Lord, co-hosts of ZLORD, who started this podcast to document their nomadic travels, are now self-isolating themselves in their own home, hunkered down for the duration of this virus-tsunami about to hurl over them. They discuss how swiftly things can change--and they already have! Overnight practically, they and everyone else in the world has to alter their travel plans, daily behavior, become smarter, stay healthy, and help others as well as themselves get through this affliction best they can. Things are changing as swiftly, as powerfully as they instantly did when the world experienced the horrible events of September 11 in 2001. But this event, not a war but just as devastatingly lethal, will last much longer. No one knows what the future will bring. No one knows who will fall victim to the disease and who will be lucky enough to survive it. The Lords speak about the coping skills they utilize, not just enumerating the shock of this worldwide challenge. What will life bring us next? Are we prepared to ... let it Be?
Everyone wants to offer their opinion. Everywhere we go, we hear, see, and feel people's take on life's many intriguing subjects. In this episode teZa and Carter discuss what they see as a negative tendency among many people to force their opinions upon others. Respect and kindness, where are they? Well, the Lords think that by treating others with kindness, kindness and good fortune appears in one's life. They offer examples and have a few laughs about what could otherwise be a depressing subject. We make our own lives, so we may as well have some fun while we're doing it. Be Kind, please, in case you forgot and somehow didn't know you weren't. Some hints about how to be "more aware of awareness" is offered as a remedy. "Kindness is its own reward.," Carter tells us.
While Carter is off today, teZa shares her family's true story about how Grandpa Bruns survived the Spanish Flu outbreak of 1918. Everyone is safe from the potential current pandemic if they follow Grandpa's example. Everyone is connected: we are one global blended family. That's why teZa shares her intimate stories and ideas, and that's why she sometimes gets so impassioned, especially about environmental issues, that she totally reverts to her "reptilian pirate past." Not a conversation this time, but an in-depth reveal of who one-half of ZLORD podcast really is.
The two hosts of ZLORD, teZa and Carter decide to hop right in and address a very HOT topic in today's world: the great divide happening among American society. Is it political alone? Or, as both attest, it's the culmination of many factors in many arenas of life that have led up to today's highly charged emotional states and political despair. The couple share from their own experiences and keep far away from theirs or others' political views, choosing to address, instead, the right of each and every person to share how they feel, without rancor, without retribution, without unpleasantries. Yet, as they give examples from their own lives, both agree that open discussions have become increasingly hard to do in this climate of confusion and blame. Instead of re-hashing old points, however, ZLORD offers remedies, starting with being kind to any others who have dissenting views. This is a time for compassion, not confrontation. Kindness and mutual respect is a first-step, however meager, to finding mutually agreeable solutions.
Focusing on the "inner journey" now, teZa and Carter talk about how they try to keep in the present NOW, finding it more challenging since their return. When alone with just themselves during their months-long camping trip, it was considerably easier. Now, with multi-responsibilities and pulls coming from all direction, the Lords discuss how each of them attempt to keep balanced in our increasingly crazy world.
The Lords discuss how teZa's latest book "Zen Love: The Journey of a Blended Family" (which Carter is reading for the very first time) is about every human's inner journey. Remarkable especially when in contrast to the continuous drama of today's social clime & the exotic six months' worth of vision quest adventures the Lords have just returned from. Like teZa's other books, this is a nonfiction narrative. "Zen Love" is more than a portrait of a seemingly ordinary step-family though, the author says. She wrote it to "demonstrate how each and every person gets the chance to recognize the magic of life can also find satisfaction, even happiness by choosing to follow their heart." The heart is the voice of our Spirit, the strong pull of knowing what is right for each of us, individually. The discussion ends with the couple re-dedicating this podcast (that was originally started to document their year-long plan of journeying, which has now changed) to helping heal the world , and especially Mother Earth, its environment, through this difficult time we're facing. We on Earth are undergoing a Sea Change of Transformation as human culture is thrust deeper into the Digital Age. A concourse of Information Highways, and jobs lost or replaced by robotics are creating a worldwide nervous breakdown, it seems. Yet there is great hope, the Lords agree, with great glee as they joyously share the magic. "God's in charge," they both agree, "and we know we're being led to a higher, deeper, better place for our blended human family."
The nomads have been home for two months now and are now embarking on new journeys, together and separately. teZa explains how she's changing her focus from authoring books (having changed her manuscript-crammed writing room into an art studio and is busy painting already). For the next year she is committed to learning how to disseminate her four published books. Meanwhile, Carter is transforming his former business office into a film studio in which he wants to learn the latest technology in making and sharing with others the short videos he loves to make. Both teZa and Carter are resuming their art-making energies! The couple discuss how the seemingly contradictory approaches of setting goals while remaining in the NOW are not as incompatible as that might sound. Both reaffirm their commitment to publicly sharing their creative process, the latest "leg" of their shared spiritual journey, with continued episodes of this podcast (originally created for their faraway, extended nomadic trips, postponed for the foreseeable future). For now, the Lords are traveling to another dimension instead of a destination. Both are going deeper within, right where they happen to BE now: home sweet home.
Not for the faint-hearted, teZa one half of ZLORD podcast; the other half, Carter, being absent today) starts off warning the listener. If you are squeamish about bodily functions, especially bathroom stuff, best you skip this particular episode and check out other, less intimate ZLORD conversations. This one explores the REAL and unmistakably pernicious-natured "animal spirit" that both teZa and Carter got in touch with during their 6-month car-and-tent camping sojourn around the north, west, and southern parts of North America. Meant to be highly personal, teZa un-timidly describes in graphic detail what happened, how they dealt with the inconveniences of this wilderness-camping handicap, and what she thinks the significance of this gastro intestinal animal-attack actually was, not only for herself but for the state of our entire planet. Hubris? We shall see. More like a small voice shouting a warning of "Awaken!" in a big big cosmos. Comments welcome at zlordpodcast@gmail.com Carter will join teZa for the next episode, he promises.
Half of ZLORD is busy and unavailable, so teZa decides to make the podcast her own for this once (or maybe more?). Things are sure different now that the nomadic pair are back home. Carter is off somewhere else, as he loves playing tennis and hanging with his buds. But he'll participate in the ZLORD conversation whenever he can, he just said as this episode is being published. During this one here, teZa speaks about how similar her painting is to the description of what the couple had read that very morning in Eckhart Tolle's Book "The Power of NOW" -- about the Oneness of all in existence. She describes how similar Tolle's written words are to what she's tried to convey in her large sculpture-painting entitled "Lapis Sky" that hangs in her home. She ends by remarking that the next episode of ZLORD will have a warning, like a sex and violence disclaimer before some X-rated movies have ("thematic material might involve some degree of objectionable content') before viewing, as teZa's next solo sharing might "offend" some people. She's thought long and hard about it, and has decided she will go public with it. Carter's not heard it yet but will by the time the next episode is made public. If he can get off the tennis court long enough to listen!
The Lords, Carter and teZa are back home after six months without much of an itinerary or even a very defined plan. Now home in Florida they are adapting to sharing the precious Presence they've been relishing, and which they've focused on during their time away from their "regular" life. Here, they discuss how to maintain their awareness of Presence as they continue to flow with family, friends, obligations, appointments, and other kinds of "other" energies, distractions, choices and commitments.
Recorded earlier in December but this episode is released late in January 2020 due to technical difficulties. Speaking from Louisiana where teZa and Carter, the itinerant pair featured in ZLORD podcast are headed for Grand Isle, at the very tip of the Bayou country; Carter shares what he's learned about the Apaches. The Lords are fascinated by this particular tribe of Native Americans because they have just left their last wilderness campsite in the Big Bend, Texas, the ancestral territory of the fierce Mescalera Apache. Being in this harsh land that straddles the Mexican border, leads the couple to imagining how the Apache once survived and flourished there. It has also compelled Carter to read as much as he can, so this sharing is a lot from a historical standpoint of what he's gleaned from his research.
Two intrepid car and tent campers, teZa and Carter are on their way home! As they drive Highway 10 from New Orleans on the final lap of their six-month sojourn over a vast part of North America, the pair reflects about what they've learned and what they'll keep close to their hearts, minds, and souls forever. Soon, they'll be back to their "regular" lives in Florida. But nothing they've experienced will be forgotten. What's going to be next? That's crucial to the discussion also, as their original plan on traveling on to South America have changed. Life! Always about change change change.
The Lords speak from their totally isolated wilderness campsite in Big Bend National Park, close to Mexico in Texas. teZa had a dream the night before, and she talks about it with Carter, who has always helped her understand the significance of dreams. It's what they do. The couple speaks of different ways they connect to their Source: sometimes through the majesty of Nature, sometimes in quiet meditation, but during this vision quest they've been on they've been working on being more consciously present, in the Now ... by simply Being. Their next podcast will be about the Mescalero Apaches, the former indigenous residents of this magnificent canyonland in which they're camping.
Nomad teZa and Carter Lord are tent-camping for the next two weeks in the Big Bend National Park, which borders Mexico and Texas. They speak from the first of three wilderness camps they've already secured with permits. Sadly, no fires are allowed here. Sharing about whatever hits their hearts, the Lords are feeling melancholic because this magnificent spot marks the beginning of their return journey. Many things have happened since their last podcast, getting in town visits (Santa Fe and Placitas and Albuquerque) after visiting friends of the Acoma Nation. Now they're in Apache land, after having passed their the Jemez pueblo on their way to Santa Fe. That's before they reached Big Bend. Which, by the way, if you haven't figured out yet -- is immense! And vastly breath-takingly diverse, not to mention awesomely beautiful (all familiar adjectives for ZLORD listeners!)
the Lords (teZa and Carter) speak from the side of a babbling book-like river in New Mexico. They've just been visiting friends of the Acoma Pueblo, close to Albuquerque. In presenting ways of helping heal the bleeding dissent of current times in America, these indigenous ancient pueblans have much to offer: the need for more conversations, the civility of peaceful pow-wows instead of war-like name-calling. The shift of focus from combative to more compassionate conversation is needed in this difficult political climate. ZLORD urges people to start within their own families and immediate circles: discuss without rancor, spread Love, and help wipe out hatred, one-person-at-a-time.
The Lords first speak from the sacred place of Canyon de Chelly, which lies in the remote yet inhabited Navajo Nation of northeastern Arizona. Since leaving Las Vegas they've been running from the bitter winter cold, their tent-camping spirits warmed by campfires outside, their bellies with delicious meals cooked on their camp stove. After Vegas they visited Cochise's Stronghold, famed for the 19th Century Apache Chief's evading capture (located in the Dragoon mountains of Arizona). The couple walked the eponymous trail leading to Cochise's sacred, yet undisclosed burial place in the rocky hillsides. Along the way they find an interesting animal specimen. Next, they visit a many thousand-acre cattle ranch and marvel at that lifestyle, gratefully staying warm inside. Then they visit the restored remains of the sacred city of the Ancestral Pueblans (formerly called the Anasazi) in Chaco Canyon in northwestern New Mexico. The magnificent ruins speak of the Ancient Ones who lived there from 800-1200 AD, when the bustling city was abandoned for unknown reasons. The Lords' whirlwind tour, driving to escape the cold, ended that very morning. This chilly November day was perfect for a drive through the breathtaking landscape of Monument Valley, located at Four Corners on the Arizona-Utah border in occupied Navajo land. Now the Lords are headed to visit their friends on the Acoma Pueblo outside of Albuquerque.
A mammoth week for the Lords as the awesomeness continues to amaze them! They left car-camping in the bosom of Nature to head straight into the heart of Los Angeles, for a special visit to a film studio. Now teZa and Carter are on their way back to their tent but first, a quick stop in Las Vegas. That's where teZa had to do some serious pre-book-launch promo work on Wifi. Gaining Bestseller status in 7 Kindle categories! this book of teZa's (whose title, Hybrid Vigor, is curiously never mentioned on the podcast) is the satisfying result of lots of work. The ZLORD talking heads then aim for Love, in all its glory. Because everything, after all, is the result of someone, somewhere following their passion, their bliss--their love.
ZLORD's two artist cohosts, teZa and Carter Lord find themselves in a humbled state of awe. It is now their fourth month traveling as car-camping-style nomads. They wonder at what "Art" means to them, surrounded by the highest example of artistic expression -- the Magnificence of Nature -- the awe-inspiring, sculptural canyons of southern Utah. Both Lords express what their "role" as artist means to them, in the present moment. Another theme is "Pessimism never struck us as useful."
the Lords (teZa and Carter) are in Escalante, Utah, having left their Moab campsite and friends behind a few days ago. They've spent the previous 3 nights wilderness camping near Mule Canyon, Utah, where such thrilling sights as Anasazi ruins and the "Natural Bridges" Park kept them in a constant state of awe. Now they've met the ultimate in awesomeness! Riding out-of-the-way Burr Trail, close to Lake Powell to the town of Boulder (a mind-blowing, switchback, hair-raising, hours-long car ride recommended by a wildlife biologist friend of theirs in Moab) amounts to a breathtaking momentous event in both hosts' lives. Other ways of sharing being in awe are discussed: nudity at Orvis Hot Springs (Colorado), interacting with other humans (with or without clothews), allowing each person to BE ... without judgment. Staying in the NOW, in a state of compassionate love.
teZa and Carter are re-visiting the 9,000-plus-foot mountain bike trail in Moab, Utah, the "Whole Enchilada" but this time as hikers. Carter relates his previous experience biking this world-famous trail some years beforehand with a friend, before he knew the importance of eating carbs to fuel such strenuous activities as extreme sports. The couple's musings glide into the high winds they experienced at their campsite for two nights before this day. And from there they ruminate about their views concerning climate change. The past week saw worldwide demonstrations led by young people to bring awareness to the global weather changes our planet is experiencing.
After their last podcast, both Carter and teZa feel much freer about expressing themselves, because of course a podcast is so very public. Their private lives are now bared to all. teZa shares a startling dream. Carter shares how he's just learned to "watch" his repetitive thought patterns. All is well as they travel down a lonely stretch of Oregon canyon rural road, where a herd of cattle, a lone biker in the rain, and a roadkill porcupine catch their attention.
the Lords are in Washington State, camping on the Natches River close to Mt. Rainier. They take a day hike to bat-colonized Boulder Cave where teZa wants to explore the subject of the inner "cave" of meditation, and Carter isn't in the mood. The rest of their back-and-forthing (the next day) is a light-hearted glimpse as to how they balance their major differences, as we all do in life in so many ways.
Staying put for a couple weeks so teZa can final-edit her next book (and needing electricity for her computer), Carter keeps busy on the organic farm of our friends, which is totally without screens of any sort. He gathers wild apples and nearly burns down the motel making applesauce! After an idyllic stay in this delightful river town of Twisp, Washington, they're off back on the road, tent-camping. First stop: near Walla Walla, WA is Palouse Falls, a surprising sight that amazes and astounds us. Next stop will be Mt. Rainier for trail hikes and gazing at the clouds from right next to them. We have been two months on the road now since leaving Maine.
Carter and teZa Lord are now in Washington State, having driven through British Columbia after leaving the Canadian Rockies. Here, in the tiny agricultural town of Twisp, they're visiting garlic growers, and taking time off from their road trip for teZa to do a final edit on her next book. The pair discuss how setting goals strengthens, not diminishes, their ability to stay in the present moment. They have no plan for the next leg of their journey.
teZa and Carter are almost incapable of describing the beauty of the Canadian Rockies as they drive and talk from their Banff-area campground to close to Jasper. Surrounding them are glacier-topped majestic rocky worlds, the mountains, with the crystalline turquoise Saskatchewan river below. They talk of First Nation people and the difference between spontaneity and needing to plan. And ... their favorite topic ... staying in the moment, enjoying each Now as it appears.
After two weeks exploring North Dakota's badlands, mostly around Teddy Roosevelt National Park North, the nomadic travelers are heading out! teZa and Carter Lord sit around the campfire the night before breaking camp talking about whatever tickles their fancy, everything from the crazy weather to a synchronistic visit from a prophetic fellow tenter. Everything is synchronistic. Everything astounds!
As we drive down the road to the next stop in our nomadic vision quest, another camping site in North Dakota's Badlands awaits us. Carter explains the complications of being a Gemini. Yesterday was tough for both the couple. teZa and he describe the hay fields they're surrounded by. Then note how hard-working hay farmers could be enticed into leasing their land for the many oil and gas structures, which feed the booming energy industry in this area. The mile-deep wells with their flame-lit gas releases are pumping stations, the visible above-ground part of fracking the Bakken region, which dot the rolling hills patterned with wheat, corn, and alfalfa in every direction.
We're finally in the badlands of North Dakota! After traversing Canada for the past two weeks (to avoid the traffic of middle America's highways) we've been at the CCC camp already a week. Located just south of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, we're amazed by the landscape, and how it affects us, personally, spiritually, and in all ways. It's hot! It's cold! It's ... amazing!
Carter and teZa are speaking from North Dakota after an exhilarating trip through southern Canada, through Thunder Bay, Wawa, and an unexpected pilgrimage to visit a world-renowned writer-friend of teZa's in Saskatoon. After their rear window gets blown out by a thrown road-pebble, they are even more prepared to always expect the unexpected to happen.
teZa and Carter Lord have found the ideal spot to set up their first camp in the outback of Quebec province, after leaving the cities of Quebec and Montreal. As they commune with Nature, they share thoughts about things that might surprise you. A spot of bliss they've found, and all by following their noses! Not an "official" camp, it feels like almost a dream.
teZa and Carter speak from Maine after their family reunion. They've run into Frank, the Indigenous guy at the local market's fish counter, who inspired them to use the words "vision quest" to describe the nomadic journey they have embarked upon. Tomorrow they leave for points north, possibly making it to Canada where they'll make their first campsite of the trip. Visiting friends and family has been fabulous fun for the past 3 weeks.Now--it's just us.
teZa's co-host Carter joins her, and introduces himself. The two are in Maine, readying to start their nomadic car-camping trip around North America. First, though, they had to fight their way through harrowing busy traffic from less-populated Florida.
teZa has signed her artwork as "ZLORD" for decades, since marrying Carter Lord, her podcast co-host. Here, teZa tells a little about herself, who she is, what motivates her. Next segment, you'll meet the other half of this duo who are documenting their nomadic journey.
While I'm trying to learn how to use the "official" and really funny looking microphone that will have better sound quality, I'm using my good old trusty iPhone. I thought it'd be nice to tell you a little background about who we are: Carter (my man) and me, teZa. He's off on a quick business trip (even though he claims he's "retired") and the dynamic will be different when the two of us are talking. More conversational. So consider this episode a "pre-quel" if you will, filling in the background of who we are (a bit) and what we're up to. Once we get going on our car-camping trip (with tent) who knows what we'll end up talking about, I sure don't. That's the magic of life, isn't it. Just to BE ... and be willing to experience whatever comes up.
Introducing ZLORD with podcast host teZa Lord speaking. Along with her sidekick Carter, the Lords will share their nomadic journey throughout North America, and afterwards, in South America. This pair is not escaping anything. They are discovering! With big hearts and wide-open eyes!
