I was pleased to see this morning that The Marionette was named a Best Book of 2025 by the Winnipeg Free Press. There was a great review earlier in the fall and of course I spent two days in Winnipeg in November doing media interviews, bookstore signings, and an evening event at McNally Robinson’s flagship store.

The Waterloo Public Library has released its “Top Reads” for 2023, identifying the books in various categories that have been taken out of the library most often over the course of the year. Even though A New Season was not released until August 31, it was still the third most popular fiction book checked out of the library for the year. The readers of the Waterloo Region have always been very supportive ever since 2010, when my debut novel, The Best Laid Plans, was the One Book One Community (OBOC) selection for the region. I’m grateful. (Here’s my blog post from 2010 about the OBOC experience.)

Well in the days after it aired, Operation Angus, which, after six months, had dropped off the Canadian Fiction bestsellers list, made a triumphant return. That’s the power of Shelagh Rogers. Operation Angus is still lurking on the national Canadian fiction bestsellers list, at least according to CBC Books. It even slipped up a place to #9. May it continue at least through the holiday shopping season!
I was thrilled to see Operation Angus on the CBC’s list of Best Canadian Books for 2021. I was honestly not expecting to see it there but was just scrolling through the list when up it popped. Here’s the full list or click on the graphic above. I’m certainly awed by the company I’m somehow keeping.

After having dropped off almost all of the national bestsellers lists a couple of weeks ago, Operation Angus slips back on this week three months after it launched. No complaints here. And the holiday shopping season is just around the corner.
After nearly three months at various positions near the top of multiple national bestsellers lists, Operation Angus seems finally to have fallen out of the top 10 (at least for now). Still holding on, but with Omar El Akkad’s What Strange Paradise just named as the 2021 Giller Prize winner, we know his wonderful book is headed straight up the charts. Thrilled and grateful to be still on the list after ten weeks.
It’s now been nearly two months since Operation Angus hit bookstores. I’m heartened (okay, tickled and thrilled would be more accurate) that it’s still hanging around on at least some bestsellers lists. Filled with gratitude.
As expected, Operation Angus, after seven weeks, has fallen off the Toronto Star and Globe and Mail Canadian Fiction bestsellers lists, largely due to the recent arrival of a few blockbuster books, including another Louise Penny novel she’s co-written with none other than Hillary Clinton! Naturally it went straight to number 1. Well, we had a great run! But we’re hanging tough on the CBC bestsellers list and the Retail Council of Canada list. I couldn’t be more pleased to still be on at least some of the bestsellers lists nearly two months after the novel was launched. I feel very fortunate and grateful to readers and booksellers across the country.
