The Team of Rivals Podcast is a weekly baseball podcast with some pop culture sprinkled in. It's like having a seat at the bar with three idiots who know just enough to be entertaining.
Elliott, Ron, and Pete wrap up the 2024 season. Smiles, everybody!
This week, we dive into the state of the St. Louis Cardinals' player development. Katie Woo’s latest article in The Athletic reveals that the Cardinals' player development team is significantly smaller compared to other National League teams, raising concerns about their future. Ron shares his thoughts on the Cardinals' struggles and the impact of their lean staffing levels on player development.
Meanwhile, Elliott gives us an update from the Cubs game he attended, highlighting Jameson Taillon’s strong performance against the Reds. The discussion shifts to the Cubs' future, particularly regarding Ian Happ’s no-trade clause and Cody Bellinger’s potential opt-out. The team debates the Cubs' need for a superstar bat and the challenges they face in upgrading their lineup.
The guys also touch on the broader issues in Major League Baseball, including the Oakland A's move to Las Vegas and the impact of poor ownership on fan engagement. They also discuss the White Sox's record-setting season and the discontent among their fan base.
Finally, the episode wraps up with a look at the potential end of Kyle Hendricks' career with the Cubs, reflecting on his contributions and speculating on his future with the team. They also briefly mention Shohei Ohtani’s impressive season and the Dodgers' dilemma regarding his pitching role.

While there's little left of the 2024 MLB season – for the Cubs and the Cards anyway – today's episode is dedicated to honoring the legendary James Earl Jones. His passing warrants a special episode, as his voice has been a constant throughout Ron's and Pete's lives, from the big screen to their favorite sports moments. (We assume the same is true for Elliott, but, well, you know…)
Join Ron and Pete as they reminisce about the iconic roles and unforgettable voice. From Darth Vader's menacing presence to the nostalgic monologue in Field of Dreams, they explore the impact of his work on our lives and our love for baseball and cinema.
Ron shares a heartfelt trip down memory lane, recalling the days of early gaming and the evolution of technology, while Pete dives into the significance of timeless storytelling and the universal truths that make films, television, and even podcasts long-lasting.
In a lighter segment, the guys discuss the advancements in computing, from the days of floppy disks, cassettes, and CEDs to the instant digital downloads of today. They also touch on the importance of creating new, original content in Hollywood and the need for fresh stories for the next generation.

It's a joyous time in Chicago because – despite their miniscule playoff odds – the Cubs have been playing fun baseball. However, there is no joy in Mudville, as one of the National League's crown jewels is experiencing shocking levels of disinterest from the Best Fans in Baseball™.
How much longer can DW Sticks put up with the incompetence of a front office that trades for Tommy Pham, subsequently designates him for assignment (poor Pete!), mishandles Jordan Walker, and trades Dylan Carlson and releases the return (who is – of course – signed by the Cubs).
Thankfully, we have Ron's Soccer Minute to bring you a welcome respite, updating listeners on City's thrilling 4-4 draw against the Portland Timbers and previewing their upcoming match against the LA Galaxy.

While the regular season is winding down for both the Cubs and the Cardinals, Ron and Pete have plenty to discuss. From inside-the-park home runs to Campfire Milkshakes, from six-inning minimums to Ron's Soccer Minute, it's still a full episode (even without Elliott).
The Team kicks things off with an exhilarating inside-the-park home run by Pete Crow-Armstrong, which inspires a throwback to the time that Ron actually saw one in person. They then shift gears to discuss the state of the Cardinals and Cubs, including their respective frustrations with the Cubs' playoff hopes and the Cardinals' need for a rebuild. Ron shares his thoughts on recent comments from Cardinals' ownership and the team's future direction.
In "Ron's Soccer Minute", they dive into City's recent performance, including their thrilling match against Portland and the impact of new signings on the team's future. They also touch on the upcoming game against the LA Galaxy and the end of the supporters' boycott.
Finally, Ron and Pete wrap up with a discussion on the current state of the Star Wars franchise, comparing it to the Cardinals' struggles.

Do you remember the innocent days of April, when all five NL Central teams were over .500? Well, reality has hit hard, and now only one team is above .500, with both the Cubs and the Cards struggling.
Ron risks a demotion as he gets utterly embarrassed by an on-time and ready-to-perform Elliott. With Ron conspicuously absent, the first half of the show is Cubs-heavy, as E and Pete discuss their frustrations with the Cubs' recent performance, potential future moves, and the recent improvements for both Pete Crow-Armstrong and Miguel Amaya.
Eventually, Ron joins the discussion, expressing his disillusionment with the Cardinals' season and the need for a complete rebuild. The guys debate the effectiveness of the current front office and the future of Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt.
In this week's Soccer Minute, Ron provides an update on City's performance in the Leagues Cup and the impact of new signings on the team's future.

SPOILER ALERT: Elliott was, indeed, drunk already.
Ron and Pete hold down the fort this week, kicking off the episode by discussing the MLB trade deadline, with Ron admitting he didn’t follow it closely. The conversation then shifts to the Cubs and Cardinals, who wrap up their season series tonight, an unusually early end for these rivals. The guys also touch on NFL Hall of Fame weekend and Devin Hester’s legendary status, with Pete proudly showing off his "Devin Hester, You Are Ridiculous!" t-shirt. Ron also shares a heartfelt story about his son’s baseball journey and the mental toughness required to succeed in the sport.
Next, the guys circle back around to the state of the Cardinals' roster, particularly the surprising trade involving Tommy Edman and the return of Tommy Pham. Ron and Pete speculate on the future of players like Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker, pondering potential offseason moves.
Elliott makes a brief, inebriated appearance to share his frustrations with the Cubs' trade deadline performance, calling out Jed Hoyer for his conservative approach.
In this week's Soccer Minute, Ron updates listeners on City’s performance in the Leagues Cup and their recent roster changes, including the acquisition of Jonas Horn and the trade of Tim Parker to the New England Revolution. He also discusses the potential impact of these moves on the team’s future performance.

This week's episode kicks off with a discussion on the upcoming MLB trade deadline. With just three days left, the Ron, Elliott, and Pete speculate on potential moves for the Cubs and Cardinals. They analyze the trade rumors surrounding numerous Cubs players.
Next, the team shifts gears to discuss the blackout issues with MLB.TV and Ron's frustration with being a Cardinals fan in North Carolina.
The conversation also touches on the value of advanced metrics versus actual performance, specifically the over-reliance on analytics and the decline in batting averages. The guys reminisce about the days when batting over .300 was a more frequent achievement and express their preference for players who can consistently put the ball in play.
Pete and Ron then switch over to the state of the Cardinals' roster, the potential for trades, and the performance of key players like Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado.
In Ron's Soccer Minute, Ron provides an update on St. Louis City SC's performance in the Leagues Cup and the recent additions to the roster, highlighting the potential impact of new signings on the team's future performance. The I-55 Rivalry resumes, the All-Star Break looms, and Ron, Pete, and even Elliott dive into the chaos of a Saturday doubleheader, where the Cubs have already taken a beating, and it's only the fourth inning of Game 1.
They kick things off with a recap of the Cubs' disastrous start and the Cardinals' surprising lead. Ron and Pete discuss the mishaps, errors, and unfortunate plays that led to the Cubs' downfall in the early innings. With Elliott joining – err, remotely – you'll get a unique perspective on the game and some humorous commentary on his multitasking skills.
Next, the Team shifts gears to talk about the state of baseball attendance, particularly in St. Louis. Despite a historically strong fan base, the empty seats at Busch Stadium are a stark reminder of the challenges facing the Cardinals' organization. Ron and Pete speculate on what it will take to bring the fans back and revive the excitement for baseball in St. Louis.
The guys also delve into the upcoming MLB draft and the trade deadline, pondering the potential moves that could shake up the Cubs and Cardinals rosters. Will the Cardinals make a bold move to reignite their fan base? Can the Cubs find the missing pieces to turn their season around? They discuss the possibilities and share their thoughts on what the future holds for both teams.
And finally, in this week's Soccer Minute, Ron gives an update on St. Louis City SC's challenging season. With injuries plaguing the team and a recent coaching change, the road ahead looks tough. However, new signings and the upcoming League Cup provide a glimmer of hope.

In this week's episode, we mark a momentous day in Team of Rivals history – Elliott was in the room before Ron!
We kick things off with some friendly banter about Ron's ongoing tech struggles, Elliott's surprising punctuality, and the scorching weather in Charlotte. But don't worry, we quickly shift gears to tackle some hot-button topics in the world of baseball.
First up, we discuss the controversial use of defensive positioning cards and how they impact the game. Pete and Ron share their frustrations with the over-reliance on analytics and the loss of the storytelling aspect that once made baseball so captivating. We also touch on the recent Rickwood game and the nostalgic broadcast that had fans buzzing. Was it a glimpse into what baseball broadcasts should be?
Then, we dive into the state of pitching in Major League Baseball. With insights from a recent article on The Athletic, we explore how pitch labs and advanced analytics are changing the game, for better or worse. Are pitchers becoming too dominant, and is it time for batters to get back to basics?
We also can't ignore the elephant-sized head in the room – Barry Bonds making the Rickwood game all about himself. We dissect his comments and share a few laughs at his expense. Plus, we reminisce about some legendary stories involving Willie Mays, Satchel Paige, and Bob Gibson.
Finally, we get into some wild trade ideas to shake up the Cubs and Cardinals rosters. Ron suggests a controversial move that would have X/Twitter in flames, while Pete proposes a bold trade involving some fan favorites. And Elliott? Well, he's just hoping for some bullpen help to stop the Cubs' late-game collapses.

In this special bonus episode of the Team of Rivals Podcast, we break from our usual schedule to bring you an in-depth conversation with Pete's friend and Dirty Dirty White Sox Fan, Alex Levine. As both the Cubs and Cardinals struggle to stay relevant, we dive into the dismal state of Chicago White Sox baseball and explore the emotional turmoil of being a fan of a team in freefall.
First, we reminisce about the optimism surrounding the Craig Kimbrell trade three years ago and how quickly things went south. Alex shares his candid thoughts on the White Sox's current struggles, the failure of Pedro Grifol's managerial tenure, and the deep-rooted issues within the organization. From the disastrous 2023 season to the potential for setting new records of futility in 2024, we leave no stone unturned.
We also discuss the broader implications of Jerry Reinsdorf's ownership, the missed opportunities in free agency, and the controversial hiring of Tony La Russa. Alex provides a sobering look at the future of the franchise, including the prospect of a move to Nashville and what it means for die-hard fans.
Whether you're a White Sox fan looking for a therapy session or just a baseball enthusiast interested in the inner workings of a struggling franchise, this episode is a must-listen.

After a two-week hiatus, the Team returns – with a remote call-in by Elliott! – to discuss the miserable state of baseball in the NL Central, the retirement of Angel Hernandez, and more.
First up, Ron and Pete tackle the current state of the NL Central. It's no secret that the division has been struggling, and they break down exactly why it's been so disappointing. Ron sums it up perfectly: "The NL Central is terrible. I mean, just utterly, utterly terrible."
Next, they shift focus to the Chicago White Sox. With their season in a downward spiral, is it possible that they set a new record for losses, and is it okay for fans to root for such futility?
But it's not all doom and gloom! In this week's installment of Ron's Soccer Minute, they dive into the exhilarating world of soccer. St. Louis City SC recently faced off against Inter Miami, and what a match it was! Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players of all time, showcased his incredible skills. Even though the match ended in a draw, it was a thrilling experience for fans and a testament to the growing popularity of soccer in the U.S.
Chip Caray follows in his grandfather's footsteps, leading to a ToR brainstorm of a million-dollar idea that could revolutionize the ticket resale market. Imagine a platform where you can choose to sit next to someone attractive who shares your interests. It's a combination of ticket resales and a dating site, and we think it has the potential to be a game-changer.

In this week's episode, Ron and Pete tackle a whirlwind of topics, all while Pete battles a severe case of sleep deprivation. From managing a thousand kids at the Field Museum and Navy Pier, to the disappointment of a rained-out Cardinals vs. Cubs game, the duo navigates through a myriad of sports and personal anecdotes. They dive into the implications of the missed game, the missed opportunity to hear Chip Caray and Joe Buck call a game together, and the frustration of paying for an MLB.TV subscription only to not watch the game due to rain.
The conversation takes a deeper turn as they discuss the state of pitching in Major League Baseball, with insights from a recent article on The Athletic featuring Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander. Ron and Pete lament the shift away from traditional starting pitchers and the over-reliance on analytics that prioritize velocity over longevity and strategy. They also touch on the increasing frequency of Tommy John surgeries among young pitchers and the impact of strict pitch counts in youth baseball.
"Ron's Soccer Minute" (which is never just a minute) offers an update on St. Louis CITY SC's recent struggles and his anticipation for their upcoming match against Seattle. We streamed and we're not sure why. Nothing works and we're mad at chairs. BUT....are we as mad as Cardinals fans are at BDW3, or BD sticks as we like to call him? Probably not. A complete tear down starting with the Cardinals think tank appears to be the only path forward, to us at least. Is Kyle Hendricks done for the Cubs? Seems so. Elliott found his way onto the show for a few minutes, so it's kinda like we're fully back. Speaking of fully back, how about Ed Lowen and STL CITY SC?

Despite some (unsurprising and inevitable) technical hiccups and the absence of our Permanent Occasional Guest Host, Elliott, Ron and Pete take the reins to dissect the highs and lows of the baseball world, from the Cardinals' tenuous position in the NL Central race to the Cubs' surprising tenacity.
The duo delves into the curious case of ticket sales in St. Louis, debating whether the dip is due to scheduling, weather, or a deeper discontent with the Cardinals' performance. They also ponder the enigma of player development, with a spotlight on the rollercoaster ride of rookie expectations.
The conversation veers into the NFL Draft, as the enthusiasm for the Bears' picks is palpable, and Pete contemplates the implications of a potential shake-up to the Star Wars universe.
Ron's Soccer Minute (which is never just a minute) offers an update on St. Louis CITY SC's bye week blues and the anticipation for their next face-off against the Houston Dynamo.

Happy Holiday to Elliott and all who celebrate! Ron and Pete press on even as the Permanent Occasional Guest Host lives up to his title on a Saturday morning. The founders dissect the latest from the diamond, including the Cardinals' offensive woes and the White Sox's historic struggle at the plate. Is St. Louis's lack of run production just a phase, or are alarm bells ringing in the Gateway City?
The guys pay homage to the late, great Whitey Herzog, reminiscing about his impact on the Cardinals and the broader baseball landscape. They ponder the future of MLB managers and whether the era of the revered skipper is fading into the sunset.
Tyler O'Neill's latest IL stint sparks a debate on player durability and fan patience, while "Ron's Soccer Minute" takes an unexpected turn into a full-blown analysis of St. Louis CITY SC's current season challenges. Will their tactics need a shake-up to keep up with the competition?
Whether you're mourning the loss of a Cardinals legend, mulling over the fate of MLB managers, or simply here for the quirky camaraderie, this episode delivers a grand slam of entertainment.
Join us next week for another round of unscripted sports talk, where we promise to keep the 420 references to a minimum... unless Elliott has anything to say about it.

Your favorite trio of die-hard baseball enthusiasts dissect the latest twists and turns of MLB with their signature blend of insight (ha!) and irreverence.
Ron, Elliott, and Pete dive headfirst into the rising costs of attending a Major League Baseball game, yet another baffling performance by Angel Hernandez, and the perplexing world of the St. Louis Cardinals. Treading water at .500, the guys dissect the team's performance, including the lackluster starts from key hitters and the promising debut of Sonny Gray. Will the Cardinals find their stride, or is change in the air?
Meanwhile, the Brewers and Pirates are off to surprisingly strong starts, but the guys are skeptical. Are they true contenders, or will the rigors of the season reveal their true colors?

Buckle up, baseball aficionados, as the Team of Rivals Podcast unpacks the latest and greatest (or perhaps the worst) from MLB, including the bombshell that Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers might be the sport's biggest villains. The Cubs, on the other hand, are proving to be a delightful surprise, earning the title of one of the most objectively enjoyable teams to watch this season.
This week, Ron, Elliott, and Pete take a turn down memory lane with a candid chat about which players from their beloved teams irk them the most. From current nuisances to historical headaches, no player is safe from their unfiltered critiques.
And if that wasn't enough for you, the guys also take aim at the announcer's booth, praising the calls of Boog Sciambi and debating the merit of the voices that bring the game to life. Plus, a shocking revelation about the Oakland A's future home has the trio contemplating a road trip that could go down in podcast legend.

Strap in for a rollercoaster ride as Ron, Elliott, and Pete tackle the elephant in the room amid a sea of MLB chaos. In this episode, we're bypassing the usual banter on injuries and player movements to zone in on the Shohei Ohtani saga that's got the baseball world holding its breath. Is the golden boy of the Los Angeles Dodgers in a gambling mess, and if so, what does that mean for him, the team, and the integrity of the game?
From the potential implications on Ohtani's mega contract to the eerie silence from MLB's top brass, we dissect the swirling rumors and the deafening lack of concrete information. Plus, we can't help but draw parallels to historical precedents and wonder aloud about the possible double standards at play.
As we ponder the future of baseball's poster boy, we also touch upon the state of the sport at the grassroots level, and how the game's changing landscape might be impacting its very soul.

It's been a month since Ron, Elliott, and Pete have been willing to record, so they try their best to understand why. They discuss Scott Boras finally overplaying his hand, X/Twitter, Rob Manfred, and the new Nike jerseys, but it ultimately comes down to a lack of interest.
You see, baseball has lost that lovin' feelin', and the guys try to get to the root of the matter. Is it the lack of moves this offseason? The new jerseys that look like the free ones they give away at games? Is it too much exposure to social media fandom? Sydney Sweeney? (No, it's DEFINITELY not her!) So what is it?

The title says it all: THE WORST episode in our history, and the bar was already pretty low. (Let's be honest: It's all Pete's fault.)
Where has our motivation gone for baseball? Ron, Elliott, and Pete try to figure out once again why they've lost their connection to our national pastime, while simultaneously mining the incredibly interesting topics of what the Cubs will do with their 40-man roster and Brandon Crawford checking into Busch Stadium III hospice. (Thoughts and prayers for his well-being.)
Yeah, they talk about the cancellation of Respawn's Star Wars game, Scott Boras, Shohei Ohtani, City FC, and the Bears quarterback situation, but it all comes back to a loss of sports passion.

Cubs' fans inner fire got lit this week, but is that wise? The Cubs guys think so, but Ron throws some shade because he's seen this before (and he's a dick!) Former and current Cardinals pitchers are talking about Wilson Contreras and the tire tracks they left on his back last year. They are saying the right things now, but why didn't they do so last year? (Because they're full of shit?)
And finally, a word of advice for the Bears: Don't f$&k up that first pick!
Please?

The whole Team assembles this week to kick off the start of Season 8! Ron, Elliott, and Pete (with an assist from Ron's son, Braden) cover a lot of territory on this episode. In the midst of a potentially pivotal offseason, the Cardinals announce … a concert. Are the Cubs going to do anything with what's left of free agency? The fans on both sides of the rivalry are getting awfully whiny. And how will changes to streaming rights affect the Cards and the rest of Major League Baseball.

How about a little holiday cheer while you prep for your New Year celebrations?
One week before Shohei Ohtani signed with the Dodgers, Ron and Pete jumped on to lament how frozen the market has been because of Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. And while he’s willing to admit that he was wrong about Ohtani’s skill level, Ron is not a fan. Same goes for Yamamoto.

In a super double secret probation type of way, Jed Hoyer pulled off a doozy right before this year's GM meetings. Nobody saw it coming, not even the "insiders": Craig Counsell is the new manager of the Chicago Cubs. He'll move 90 miles south and be $40 million richer for it. Be warned, though: A relationship with the Cubs can get weird. Just ask Dusty, Lou, Dale, Rick, Joe, Rossy…
The Cardinals? Well, that isn't even interesting enough to call "weird". They have a ton of work to do.

On the final Thursday of the regular season, Ron and Pete jumped on to discuss the Cubs' collapse and the impending end of the 2023 season. "God does not want us to be in the playoffs this year." And while Elliott didn't join with a live report from Atlanta, he did send a drunken message to you, the "Team of Rivals Peoples".
The guys discuss the offseason math and speculate about the moves that both front offices will (and won't) make as, for the first time in the history of this podcast, neither team will participate in the postseason.
They wrap up the night by switching to football talk and commiserating over the embarrassment that is the 2023 Chicago Bears.

As the baseball season fizzles out, Ron and Pete get a chance to do a face-to-face show for the first time in five years. Yeah, it was kinda weird … and the Bears suck.
They talk about the rapidly-approaching end to the 2023 baseball season: Will the Cubs hang on to a playoff spot, and is there anything left to say about the Cardinals that hasn't already been said? Cardinals fans are in the acceptance stage of their trauma, and there's more Shohei drama on the horizon.
Finally, it looks like it's going to be a long season for Bears fans, which means that the $300 Ron dropped on Sunday Ticket was a gamble he lost.

Nine games separate our two clubs, so not much of a rivalry happening right now. The Cubs stay in it while the Cardinals do laps between 12 and 14 games under 500. So, who were the one-hit wonders who had a cult following in Chicago? Best player names? Did Mo really say they have to go out and find three new starters!? Oh, that's easy!

The Cubs have made an unexpected push and are hot on the heels of the first place Brewers, giving Pete 2015 vibes, but do other Cubs' fans feel the same? Meanwhile, the Cardinals have reclaimed their spot at the bottom of the division, but Ron's feeling good about Matthew LIberatore. Plus, ten days after the trade deadline, what do the guys think about their respective teams' moves, now that we've had time for it to sink in? The Trade Deadline is only 48 hours away, which is the only reason that Ron, Elliott, and Pete would record a podcast on a Sunday night. We recap the Cubs recent surge into playoff contention (and out of deadline selling), including a 6-2 run over the Cardinals, including an in-depth discussion of the stupidity that grew out of Ian Happ's ridiculously long back swing and Miles Mikolas' ridiculously selfish reaction. Plus, the Cardinals have started selling. When will they stop, and what will this team look like on Wednesday morning.
Finally, have you wished The Birthday Boy a happy one yet? If not, why not? Hit up Elliott "Deadline" Duy on X at @ToR_Elliott, and look forward to our trade recap on Thursday.

The Team can't decide which fans are in worse shape. Cubs fans? They're not sure which direction their team is headed. Cardinals fans? They're being patient (except on Twitter and Facebook) as ever.
Will the Cardinals going to win just enough over the next ten days to allow the front office to do nothing? Will the Cubs do something about their infield corners, seeking any consistent threat in the middle of the order?
One thing is for sure, in a boring season, these next two weeks hold the promise of change for both sides. OR NOT!

Big news in baseball as the John Mozeliak confirms that, for the first time in three decades, the Cardinals will be sellers at the trade deadline. But who will will be on the block, and will Cardinals Nation miss them when they're gone. Ron and Pete jump on this week to discuss that and the fact that the Cubs will be buyers this year. Or maybe sellers. Who knows?
And stop us if you've heard this before, but Elliott missed this week's show.

Stop us if you've heard this before, but Elliott wasn't able to make it this week, so The Streak ends at one.
Ron and Pete jump on this week to discuss how little they are looking forward to this weekend's London Series and how poorly MLB seems to have marketed this year's event, especially when compared to the original Yankees-Red Sox edition in 2019. How did something that should have been so big sneak up on two die-hard fans? Is it a lack of hype, or is it the two teams' underperformance relative to preseason expectations? And just how hard is it to root for The Rivalry when both teams are bad?
They wrap up this week's episode with a discussion of their favorite baseball fights and quick chat about the future of the Star Wars franchise.

Finally someone will talk to Ron about football (soccer). He welcomes on Tito Rivera (@triveratops) to talk about STL City SC's inagural season and what impact it has had on STL community and region. As big of a deal as City has been to the STL region, a major addition to MLS happened this week as the planet's best player, Lionel Messi, makes the decision to join the MLS's Inter Miami. Tito share what he believes this will bring to the sport in North America.
Mike Stephenson from the Two for Three Podcast joined Ron and Elliott to dicusss this mess at the other end of I-55. Will the Cardinals actually be sellers for the first time in forever? Does that scare the $hit out of Cardinals fans? It should. The Cubs aren't exempt, and the fans didn't expect them to be. They'll be opening up for the garage sale as well.
Listen to what the guys think is likely to happen.
Let's start with the fact that The One Who Shall Not Be Named lives up to his title yet again this week.
The last time both teams were this terrible was 1997! And with the Permanent Occasional Guest Host unavailable to provide play-by-play of an unearthed wrestling vdeo, Ron and Pete are left to laugh through the pain of the Cards and Cubs sharing last place in the NL Central.
With a lack of positive news to discuss, they cover a wide range of topics, including front office failings, free agency, and Ron's Insanity.

It's STAR WARS DAY (May the Fourth Be With You), so of course Elliott is out this week. Ron and Pete go Old School anyway, discussing their Star Wars Weekend plans, the Cubs' prospect anticipation (welcome "Never Nervous Mervis" and Miggy Amaya!), and the Cardinals' worst-in-50-years performance. Finally, Pete gets Ron to play "If I Were in the Front Office" and welcomes him to honorary Cubs Fandom.

It's Draft Day! The one and only thing Ron, Elliott, and Pete have in common is their "foos-ball" team. (Heavy discussion there…) Pete's predictions have been right so far … or have they? The Cardinals have looked terrible so far, the Cubs have been competitive, and are the Pirates for real? Baseball has been a struggle for all of the Midwestern teams (looking at you Sox fans), and deservedly so!

Ron and Pete are both on the road this week, and Elliott is at the Blackhawks game. But it's Opening Day, so let's record an episode! Of course the Permanent Occasional Guest Host can't be bothered to join, so we go Old School, with a flashback to the podcast's early days - bad audio and all.
Ron and Pete discuss Opening Day for both teams, as well as the obvious effects of the new rules. (Nineteen runs, 34 hits, and nine walks in only 3:38?!?!) They also talk about the Japanese Unicorn, and trolling the internet.

Old school Ron and Pete this week with a couple of surprise voices. Spring Training is in full swing and the WBC starts up. Plus, they take on Joe West's inability to stay out of the spotlight in retirement. They wrap up the show with a rundown of their favorite Spring Training clichés and the rule changes that they are most (and least) looking forward to.

With the conclusion of Cubs Con and Winter Warm-Up, Ron, Elliott, and Pete get together again for a post-conventions review. Are they feeling any more optimistic now that the annual feel-good gatherings have taken place? Does the ZIPS projection for the Cardinals make Ron feel better? Elliott feel worse? They also speculate about how the upcoming rules changes will affect the game, and Ron lights into Pete for his hardheadedness regarding Disney Star Wars.

Ron, Elliott, and Pete kick off the New Year by catching up on the Cubs' free agent activity since our last epsiode. Do they take this seriously, and does Elliott feel better since his mid-December rant? The Cardinals addressed their biggest need (catcher), but then stopped. Are they working on something else? Hopefully it's starting pitching, but most likely they are "comfortable with who we have." Same BS, different year.

Elliott's back, and he's representing most of Cubs fandom with an opening rant for the ages! After digging into the Cubs' relative inaction this offseason, Ron leads the Team on a discussion of the Cardinals' usual operation: Making one big move (e.g. Goldschmidt, Arenado, Contreras) and then sitting back and doing nothing to fix the starting rotation. One of the best times of the year for baseball fans (not Pittsburgh, Kansas City, etc.)! The Winter Meetings happened and it was nuts! Unique this year for Cubs and Cardinals fans, but not unheard of (Mr. Fowler). A Cub fan favorite comes to the other side of the rivalry, and we Cubs and Cardinals fans certainly have some strong feelings about that. Ron and Pete jump on for what is likely the final podcast of the season during Game 5 of the 2022 World Series. With nothing on the line at this point in the playoffs, they turn their attention to what will likely be a busy offseason for both the Cubs and the Cardinals.

Jed Hoyer sending a message to David Ross? "This is my house now!" Looking like JHey is done as a Cub when 2022 completes. The Cardinals coming off of a sweep against the Cubs and Yankees decided to let the altitude in Colorado get the best of them.

MLB looked at the wild-and-crazy end to the 2021 Trade Deadline and said "Hold my beer." Juan Soto went to the Padres in a blockbuster deal, and names were flying all over the United States (and Canada!), unless they were the Cubs' "big two" position players. Did the Cubs front office hold out for too much for Willson Contreras and Ian Happ? Or did the other 29 teams send a wake-up call to Cubs fans about just how good they REALLY are? They also set the stage for this weekend's series in St. Louis (and Pete and The Boy's plans for Saturday and Sunday). Plus, Shohei Ohtani has completely won over the Team, as they talk about the possibility of him becoming baseball's first Fifty Million Dollar Man. Ron wraps up the baseball portion of this week's podcast recounting the tale of his family's trip to see the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers play the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

This week's episode is jam-packed with content, as the Baseball Gods have been very good to Ron, Elliott, and Pete. Tony La Russa beclowns himself, Joe Maddon gets fired, and the first rivalry series of 2022 wraps with the Cards taken two out of three from the Cubs. Right on cue, they proceed to get swept by the Rays, but all is right in Ron's world, because BroNeill is back in the lineup!
The Team also explores the big questions this week: Who is more annoying to the opposing fans: Christopher Morel or Brandon Donovan? Is Ian Happ in his final weeks as a Cub? And does Pete hate Happ more than Ron hates O'Neill?
This week's final segment – as always – is for the pop culture nerds. It was bound to happen under Disney, as this week's episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi was terrible. After getting that distraction out of the way, the guys discuss their fervent hopes for this year's World Series (Go Braves!), the history-making "final pitcher at-bat" on Sunday, Oli Marmol, and a host of other topics. Yep, it's a Grab Bag episode. Thank God we have the winter meetings and labor peace to look forward to!

Pete and Elliott thought they were going to have a nice, relaxing podcast talking about the Cubs offseason moves, the impending announcement of a new GM at 1060 West Addison, and the Ted Lasso season finale. A quick – albeit interesting – exit in the NL Wild Card Game brings a close to the 2021 season for the Team of Rivals. None of the guys were particularly surprised by the final outcome. (What did you expect facing a 106-win Dodgers team?) After a relatively short discussion of the game, the guys focus on where both teams came up short this season and where they think their front offices should (and not necessarily will) make moves this offseason.

The Cards have won 12 in a row heading into Wrigley for a four-game set this weekend. Their grip on the playoffs has tightened, but will playoff success slip through their fingers when they face the Dodgers or the Giants in the Wild Card Round? And will the Cubs let their tanking plan get in the way of ending a streak?

In a week highlighted by a guest appearance by The Show Infiltrator, the Team of Rivals discusses the Cubs tanking and the Cards treading water. Which is worse? The Cardinals, winners of five of their last six, scramble to get into contention while the Cubs lose to anyone willing to play them. It's a case of both resignation and constipation if you're a Midwestern NL baseball fan these days.

Moose Michaels joins Ron and Elliott at the beginning of this week's show to talk about this Cardinals team. The Cardinals are a mess all around, with so many problems it's hard to point to a few things that could be the cause. What do they do, and do they see the empty seats in Busch III? The Cubs, on the other hand, have played well enough to share the top spot in the NL Central. (Bet they wish they still had Yu!)

This week, the Team asks, "The Cardinals are underachieving, or are they? The Cubs are exceeding expectations; should we have doubted them?" Attendance is surprisingly low in St. Louis this last week, as the ballpark comes back to full capacity. Blackouts are one of many things that have us worried about the health of the game.

Ron and Elliott were joined this week by Dan Buffa and Holy Elle. A quarter of the way into the season and both the Cardinals and Cubs are right about where the Team of Rivals thought they would be. A soft schedule has helped the Cardinals take hold of the NL Central, but a tougher test lies ahead. The countdown to the Cubs dismantling continues, and we're only halfway through May.
Ron brings an apparent Jim Edmonds orgasm to everyone's attention, the Padres suffer a COVID setback, and the MLBPA files a long-anticipated grievance over the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

It's an old school episode, as Elliott is off … somewhere, leaving Ron and Pete to sit on the porch and complain about the kids on the lawn. With baseball back, it would appear that things are going to get back to normal. Not so fast says the sick Marlins players. Arlington Lane joins Ron on this episode of N The Cards to talk about baseball, BLM baseball statement, decreasing number of black players in baseball, and of course, their impression of the Cardinals 4 games into the short season.
With one week to go until baseball, Pete was missing but @Holy_Elle stepped in to save the show. The crew talked about the upcoming MLB opening day along with an array of Star Wars talk. No guard rails, no restrictions. That's a bad thing for Ron.

Lots of anger leads off this week's show, as Ron finds inspiration in Ian Desmond's opt-out statement. How much longer can baseball go on like this before it becomes irrelevant?
F**kin' Rob Manfred.
From there it's Star Wars all the way down, as the Team (and Scott!) discuss Dicktor Van Doomcock's rumored leak of the sequel "write-off" and how they would have done it differently.

Palmer Alexander III @thelegendkil joins Ron early on a Sunday morning to talk baseball and to catch us up with all that is happening on N The Zone Network.
Elliott rants about baseball; Ron rants about Aubrey Huff; Pete rants about the terrible ESPN documentary. The Team of Rivals is not happy with MLB's "progress" towards a 2020 season, they're skeptical of the legitimacy of the 2020 World Series champion, and they're surprisingly united in their disappointment with Long Gone Summer. They wrap things up with a discussion of Episode 7 of The Gallery and Ludwig Göransson's future in the Star Wars saga.

Frustration reigns as MLB and the Players Association appear no closer to a deal for the 2021 season. Ron and Pete give a half-hearted defense of the Major League owners before answering a viewer question about Matt Carpenter. Elliott and Pete quickly bring Ron up to date on the Bears' quarterback situation before Elliott dives into the PS5 reveal. Braden makes his usual appearance and sparks a surprisingly deep discussion of the MLB draft.

This week's podcast starts with the darkest opening in years (ever?), as Ron, Pete, and Elliott log on to discuss the opportunity that baseball will probably miss at bringing the country together. They also go deep into the Star Wars weeds: discussing the Disney+ behind-the-scenes series, The Gallery, expressing their universal disdain for Kathleen Kennedy's leadership at Lucasfilm, and speculating about the return of several beloved characters in Season 2 of The Mandalorian.

It's too early to start bitching about sports on a Saturday right? We have enough things to worry about these days. Baseball has a chance to come back and in a big and positive way. So what do they do? They risk F&%#ING it up, as per freaking usual. It's not a surprise, but do they know how much they are risking their future health?
Ron, Pete, and Elliott launch a new era of the Team of Rivals Podcast by reminiscing about the birth of their sports and pop culture fandom and how they met. The Show Infiltrator then joins to discuss the dismal prospects for MLB's future as negotiations appear to reach a crisis point.

The Team gathers for the last time as a baseball-only podcast to discuss their boredom with the current state of MLB and to celebrate the extraordinary storytelling abilities and insight of former St. Louis Cardinal, Mark Littell.

A new format and show is in the works. We love baseball, but through this tough period of time, we've found that we love talking about a lot of things throughout sports and entertainment. We're going with our guts and just flat out going with it. We hope you enjoy it as much as we love doing it.
There is some baseball news in the works. MLB and ownership has agreed on a "get back to baseball" proposal and the MLBPA will be reviewing as early as Friday. It won't be an easy hill to climb, but baseball does have a chance to get back into action around the 4th of July! In other news, is the XFL making a comeback? Ron sure as hell hopes so! It was fun while it lasted, and would be great to see it make a return!
Ron is back on his solo gig for N The Cards. What will baseball be when it gets back? New divisions and how they will pan out for 2020, outfield competition and St. Louis made a statement during the short stint it had professional football back.
It's Quarantine WEEK 9(!), and we're going Old School… With Elliott working late (yeah, right!), Ron and Pete hop on for what they thought would be a short conversation about the imminent(?) return of baseball. Once The Show Infiltrator joined the conversation, though, the conversation expanded to include a pop culture discussion and a return to "The Siege of Mandalore".

The Team of Rivals – with an assist from special guest Scott Nuttall – gathers for a special Star Wars Day podcast to discuss the finale of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS. The guys discuss their satisfaction with the "Siege of Mandalore" arc, their newfound appreciation of the prequel trilogy, and their hope for the future of Star Wars.

It's Week Seven of Quarantine, and the Team of Rivals rolls on. Ron, Pete, and Elliott gather again to discuss their drink choices, potential 2020 realignment, the pending return of baseball, Yadi's retirement head fake, plus STAR WARS TALK!

After a ridiculous series of technical fits and starts (no joke, check out the full show on Facebook or YouTube), and with no developments on the baseball front, the Team of Rivals get together to talk the NFL draft, Star Wars, and pop culture.

Week Four of the Quarantine. Ron dreams of his PhD. Pete eats steak. Elle works her glutes. Elliott wears his mom's clothes. Buffa drops by. Yeah, we're all struggling.
When will baseball return? The Team of Rivals has some theories, which will all likely be wrong. So how are Ron, Pete, and Elliott keeping themselves entertained while stuck at home with no sports?
Despite nowhere to go and no baseball, The Team of Rivals did their thing anyway. The Two Birds on a Bat crew, Bengie Molina and Jim Cromer, dropped in to say hello mid-show. Ron, Pete, and Elliott talked about life without baseball, some of their favorite moments at the park, and longtime listener CJ briefly joined the show while under zombie attack.
Is bad publicity better than no publicity? If Rob Manfred was deliberately trying to destroy baseball, what would he have done differently? If you were the Cubs, who would you bat first? How will the Cardinals address their sudden rotation/bullpen issues? Plus, which team has the best selection of craft brews at their ballpark? The ToR boys discuss all of the important topics on this week's episode… sort of.
After Elliott joins this week's podcast (late!), the fellas do a DEEP position-by-position comparison of the Cubs and Cardinals, as currently constructed.
The guys (and @Holy_Elle) jump on to discuss a whole host of baseball bullets: Is Arenado going to the Cubs?! Are the Reds the best team in the NL Central? Which Seltzer is better: White Claw or Bud Light? The baseball talk quickly ends, however, in favor of an Elle-led pop-culture discussion and a deep dive into the murky laws of marijuana tourism.
Derek King sits in for Pete this week and joins Elliott and Ron on the regular show. They guys talk a little lingering trade speculation with the Cardinals and Nolan Arenado, Ozuna's departure, and what they think the Cubs will do before 2020 really starts.
