Comparisons arise with the likes of Batman 89, The Matrix, and The Crow as we delve into the effects of the late Brandon Lee on 'Dark City.'’ By the end of the episode, we learn that despite its mixed reception, 'Dark City' has etched an undeniable mark in the sci-fi cinema with its unique DNA.

In this episode of our podcast, we discuss Disney's animated classic Peter Pan (1953). We start by acknowledging the film's problematic depiction of Native Americans and discuss the importance of being critical of the media we consume. We talk about the film's themes of escape, adventure, and the power of imagination. We also discuss the film's iconic characters, such as Peter Pan, Wendy Darling, Captain Hook, and Tinker Bell.
Finally, we discuss the film's legacy and its impact on popular culture. We talk about how Peter Pan has been reinterpreted and adapted over the years, and we consider the film's relevance to audiences today.

We are at it again, getting stuck in an animated movie streak. But this one, well, it's special. This movie did what used to be the norm for Disney Animated movies IN THE 90s. Only a hand full of the newer Disney releases manage to be as popular as talked about and immediately become part of the pop-culture parlance. Oh, there's also a surprisingly catchy soundtrack, that also has become part of the pop culture landscape, but this time the songs didn't quite get overplayed. Or did they?

Sometimes a movie deserves a second chance. As one matures and life experiences expand our way of processing the world around us, a film that may have seemed flat and unnecessary becomes a movie that you enjoy so much that you feel a little guilty for having been so harsh the first time. We continue our adventures in 80’s fantasy films by visiting a somewhat controversial movie. Ridley Scott is not a stranger to sci-fi and fantasy films. He’s also not a stranger to making changes upon changes, so you know that this movie has a Theatrical Release as well as a Director’s cut version. We focused on the Director’s cut, but any version of this movie will leave most viewers scratching their heads.

The ’80s seemed to have been one of the most popular decades in pop culture history, as its influences, music, books, video games, and movies seem to continue to inspire stories today. Even if you didn’t live thru it, you have experienced it thru John Hues or Steven Spielberg films, or more recently, thru video games like Grand Theft Auto Vice City. The movie that our conversation covers today came out in the twenty-teens, but it is a love letter to all things ‘80s, and we bast in all of its nostalgic glory.

If you are a long-time listener of the podcast, then you know how much the Muppets mean to all three of us. It’s almost become a game to see how we can bring up Muppets in the conversation of completely unrelated movies. Not unlike a Kevin Bacon game. Last year, we sat down to record the Black Panther podcast, and before we got to the Marvel movie, we just started a conversation about the Disney+ show “Muppets Now.” The conversation was so good that we wanted to share it with all of you. Please let us know in the comments what you think of our chat today or what you think of the “Muppets Now.”

When all three of us first saw “Coming To America,” we didn’t realize that there was, or would be, a lot of controversy surrounding the film. Some thirty-plus years later, there are groups of folks that can’t see the comedy thru the racial and gender politics of the film. We three still find it funny, and we chat about whether it’s because of our nostalgia or because the film is that funny.

We kick it back to the late '90s for a trip on the juvenile, funny, sometimes cringe-worthy Mike Myers movie that showed that he was more than just Wayne from Wayne's World. The film was a big hit, permeating pop culture in many ways. But when seen now, thru a more enlighten eye, the movie has some glaring flaws and some moments that would be best omitted.

As far as the end of the world, disaster movies go, this week’s choice is in a league of its own. In our opinion, this is one of those must-see popcorn movies. Since the film was made and released, some aspects play a little different today than when the movie was released. Today, the movie still has that fun that we all felt when seeing this on the big screen 25 years ago.

This week's movie is an Oscar winner for the best-adapted screenplay and an Oscar nominee for Best Picture in 2020. While the film's subject matter may sound like it's heavy and depressing, this movie turns out to be uplifting and entertaining. That's not to say that we didn't get a little teary-eyed during a scene or two, but in the end, we all felt like the experience is well worth it and that more people should give this movie a try.

We are taking the podcast back to the 1900s, but not by much. This week’s film was released in December of 1999, and none of us watched it until it hit on home video in the early 2000s. At least one of us got spoiled by one of the fancy features included with the DVD. All three of us find it difficult to believe that we’ve done 80 episodes and had not touched on this movie. Considering how much all of us love this movie.

This week's episode features a wonderful guest host, Steve Swanson from the Muppet Cast podcast. And we cover the movie Labyrinth.
This weeks episode is the one I was waiting to do the most. Ghostbusters is one of those movies that changed my life, and has stayed with me since the first time I watched it.
It's our inaugural podcast, so we celebrate by discussing the movie that had us leaving the theater practicing our Crane Technique and wondering if we'd ever get the girl. That's right, episode one is all about "The Karate Kid" starring Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita.
Movie: The Karate Kid
Year released: 1984
Director: John G. Avildsen
Lead Actors:
Ralph Macchio - Danny Larusso
Noriyuki "Pat" Morita - Mr. Miyagi
Elisabeth Shue - Ali Mills
William Zabka - Johnny Lawrence
Things of note:
Even after more than 25 since the film's release, people still get the reference when you say "Wax on, wax off."
Ralph Macchio was 22 years old during the filming.
William Zabka directed a music video for the band, "No More Kings." The song was called "Sweep the Leg" and was written about Zabka's character in The Karate Kid.
Pat Morita was a stand-up comedian early in his career.
Morita's natural accent is American. He faked the Japanese one.
The drunk racist on the beach who placed his beer bottles on Mr. Miyagi's truck was played by Larry Drake, best known for his role as the mentally challenged Benny in the TV series "LA Law".
