Can our attempts to remain relevant (culturally) in our sermons tilt on doing more harm than good in some cases? Discuss this plus the Shroud of Tourin reveals what Jesus could have looked like.
Do you believe the Shroud of Turin is legit and if so, why?
The concept of a "New Identity" is sometimes easier to hear than it is to apply. As a minority myself (JS), I can can identify completely with certain things being specific to my culture and can feel a bit protective when it comes to guarding those unique attributes.
My race and ethnicity, however, are just a microcosm of what truly makes me who I am and as a believer, the knowledge of Jesus and The Word change everything by fully illuminating not only who I am, but who I was also created to be. This truth is universal for al believers.

âď¸ It would be safe to say that one of the most common road blocks people have when it comes to Faith in God revolves around the question of âwhy does God allow suffering if He is a good Godâ? This is especially true amongst people new to the faith and/or those that donât believe at all. First of all I want to say that we get it. This is not a dumb question and one that may not easily be explained.
This was recently brought up at a Bible Study we help lead with college students and felt that a deeper conversation was warranted. This episode is our response to that encounter and while itâs certainly not an âend all, be allâ, we are hopeful that it will provide some encouragement and insight into the Idea of God and suffering. #Episode 109
On Episode 108 Eric Wade from Mountain Men joins us.
Episode from a live session on Nov. 5
We talk, (In Ericâs Words) About:
đĽ Why so many men are feeling lost, disconnected, or numb in todayâs culture
đ§ The real cost of wearing masks and pretending weâve got it all together
đŞ How brotherhood, honesty, and purpose can help men rise again
đď¸ And how Mountain Men is helping men break down their walls, find freedom, and become the men they were meant to be
If you care about the future of manhood â or youâre ready to be part of a movement that restores strength with heart â donât miss this one.
đ§ I recently attended an Arkansas Community College Conference that featured Keynote speaker, and futurist, Steve Brown.
Brown delivered an inspiring keynote on how artificial intelligence is transforming education. He urged colleges to embrace AI as a tool to enhance learning, not replace educators, and to prepare students for an AI-driven workforce.
đđť Key takeaway: AI is here nowâschools must adapt curriculum, assessment, and teaching to stay relevant.
đđť Big message: Educators remain essential, guiding creativity, ethics, and human connection in an AI-powered world.
In Episode 107 we utilize an article from Forbes that highlights not only the advances in AI but more importantly, the things that make us human, which AI could never replace. In light of this, we add a spiritual component to the conversation that in our opinions, adds clarity and direction to an ever âadvancingâ world. Out tomorrow!
âźď¸How do you prioritize whatâs most important when everything seems like itâs high priority? Maybe you are in a situation where none of the options are ideal and the risk, no matter which option you choose, is high.
đď¸ On Episode 105 we continue the conversation of what it means to have maximum accountability over the decisions we make and explore processes used by Navy Seal @jockowillink to help elevate your decision making process.
âźď¸As a leader are you constantly shifting the blame away from yourself and onto the ones you lead? Are you personally accountable in your relationships and friendships or is everything ALWAYS someone elseâs fault?
Using the premise of âExtreme Ownershipâ from the book by @jockowillink and @leifbabin, this episode examines what a life looks like in leadership when we learn to OWN IT (Extreme Ownership) with those we lead.
đ¨Before you disregard this by thinking to yourself, Iâm not really a leaderâŚTHINK AGAIN! We ALL lead something. Maybe youâre the one in the family everyone always turns to or if you are married, you have a form of leadership expected from your spouse and children. Maybe youâre not in upper management, YET, but you are in charge of something in hopes of one day having greater responsibility.
Learning to Own It (Extreme Ownership) may be somewhat of a different mindset for you but if you can put these principles into practice, you will begin to view people, and leadership in a different way. On a personal note, this book is a GREAT READ. Both Jocko and Babin recount their time as Navy Seals and use the principles they learned in the line of duty, to teach others about extreme ownership in their own organizations.
âźď¸#Episode 104!!
âźď¸ letâs face it, Itâs impossible to avoid having to build relationships!
đđť In the workplace relationship building is essential because it strengthens collaboration, trust, and overall team effectiveness.
đđť In the community, relationship building strengthens social bonds, promotes cooperation, and helps address shared challenges more effectively. It cultivates goodwill, encourages mutual respect, and creates networks of support that benefit individuals and groups alike.
Whether at home, in the community, or in the workplace, a factor in someoneâs overall success could be attributed to how well they build and maintain relationships.
âźď¸Becoming a more proactive person of action is about training your mindset, habits, and systems to consistently move from intention to executionâespecially before circumstances force your hand.

âźď¸In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, *rn hub solidified itâs monoploy in the adult industry through a series of on-line websites that at the time, received more visits than #Neflix, #Amazon Prime, and other major streaming platformsâŚoften times combined.
More troubling however, is the fact that only 33 content moderators were employed to sift through the thousands, possibly millions of user uploaded videos that contained, in many cases, very real instances of rape, child pornography, and other types of sexual exploits. Further, the company masqueraded as a charitable organization supporting numerous causes in an effort to downplay their role in the sexual exploitation of others with little to no accountability.
In this episode we look at the important work being done by @lailamickelwait, author of âTake Down, Inside The Fight To Shut Down *rnHubâ and Christian organization @axisconversations , whose focus is to connect parents with resources to better enable them to connect with teens.
Realistically, believers can struggle with *orn use as much as other demographics and our hope is that this conversation can add a new perspective into the inner workings of this industry and that this conversation could be a catalyst for those seeking to break the bondage of use.

Dependent Personality Disorder or DPD sufferers feel the constant need to be taken care of and tend to be very clingy to the point of debilitation when faced with being alone or making decisions for themselves.
A Co- Dependent relationship becomes unhealthy when someone gains an addiction to taking care of another person and fulfilling that personâs every need or want, and when the otherâs opinion is all that matters, fear of separation from them brings anxiety.
Letâs talk about how we can all show signs of DPD and Co-dependency to varying degrees, and how bringing awareness and knowledge can help us grow and become better.

This week we are Introducing definitions, stats, and the reasoning behind this new episode series. We all have a mind right, so letâs talk about it!
James is only 5 chapters but it is jam packed with some of the most practical, easy to understand, and follow nuggets of wisdom!
In the last chapter, we talk about rich oppressors, patience in suffering, and letting our YES be YES!
We all need some help sticking to our commitments and doing what we say we will Iâm these days of âhurriednessâ and âbusynessâ. Finish this James Bible study with us!
In Part 4 of our exploration into the Book of James we dig into the concept of the "power of the tongue".
The tongue is compared to a small rudder that has the ability to guide even the largest ship as the captain desires or the capacity to control a large horse with a bit in its mouth. Likewise, there is power in the tongue or in more modern terms, the words that we speak have value and power.
James also speaks to us about true wisdom only being endowed from on high and wards against "worldliness".
What is your favorite script from James Chapters 4 & 5? Comment below!
In Episode 75, we delve into Chapter 2 of the book of James that holds a ton of wisdom for guarding against favoritism in church and our personal lives.
This chapter also warns us that honoring the rich above the poor is sin and shows us how to fulfill the law by loving others. James knew the importance of loving God with all our heart, mind, and strength and loving our neighbor as ourselves.
By the end of the chapter, we learn that faith without works is DEAD! Letâs dig deep this week.
The conversation into the New Testament book of James continues as we finish chapter 1. Here are a few of the topics we expound on from the reading of The Word.
Join in on the reading, and the conversation!
âźď¸ Join us for part one of our multi-episode dive into the New Testament Book of James. Itâs widely accepted by theologians and church historians that the book of James is authored by James, the half of brother of Jesus himself.
In part one we spend time detailing the authorship, timeframe, and audience of the book and even give some "best practices" for Bible Study. Then, we jump into the reading of The Word.
The primary framework for the book of James is Faith!
We look forward to taking a deeper look into this book and invite you to join in on the study and conversation!

Iâm reminded of the movie âThe 6th Dayâ with Arnold Schwarzenegger which takes place some time in the future. Iâm probably telling my age if Iâm referencing a movie with Arnold but, well, it is what it is.
This movie takes place sometime in the future and one of the elements that I remember vividly is that Arnoldâs best friend in the movie had for a wife a woman that was, well, artificial. He was able to talk to her as if she was a really person and thanks to technology, he could even simulate touch and we all know what that means.
Like most movies that used to seem outlandish, technology is making what was once considered impossible, indeed, very possible. In this episode I reference an article by professor of data science at Washington University, Liberty Vittert, title âAI Girlfriends Are Ruining An Entire Generation of Men.â (The Hill). She gives some staggering stats on how men, specifically young men are being effected by this new phenomenon and how this play into our society as a whole. In an interview on CNN Liberty goes on to say that we are just in the beginning phases of this AI craze and that it wonât be long before the tech will not only allow someone to chat with an AI girlfriend, but like Arnolds best friend in the movie, it will have the capability to simulate real, physical touch.
As always, we discuss this new epidemic, as described in the article, through the lens of the Christian faith.

So June, to my surprise, is Menâs mental health month and if you are a guy, this is probably a surprise to you as well. Â I wonât go off on a tangent of how there are far less important months celebrated than the mental health of men, but at least we can help contribute to the discussion and hopefully provide some information, encouragement, and ideas.
For episode 54 I asked my good friend and member of our churchâs praise team, Jeff Sides, to sit down to discuss the importance of mental health, specifically for men. Â Like myself, I know that Jeff has struggled in the past with anxiety and depression and wanted to provide not only guys, but whoever happens to listen, with an honest conversation about men and how we can begin to change the Dialoge around menâs current state of mind. Â
I hope you are blessed by this! Â Please comment your thoughts below and visit us at:

đ¨Itâs no secret that everyone struggles with something and in a weird, empathetic way, it feels good to know that others may struggle with some of the same things we struggle with on our faith journey. Â
This article from âthetoptens.comâ gives us 10 of the most common and universal things that Christians struggle with and serves as a good conversation starter. Â

Encouraged. Hopeful. Proud. Inspired. Â These are just a few words that I would use to describe the young adults featured on this episode and more importantly, I sincerely believe that their thoughts and views could be reflective of a great number of our young adults and college aged students.
As a side project in the class that I teach at ASU Mid-South, a small number of students participated in a conversation on technology and the impact of social media. Â I had no expectation of what I thought they would say and only asked that they share openly and honestly. I was surprised to find that many of their perspectives and views aligned so closely with my own, as a, letâs just say, somewhat older dude. :)
I believe that this is a great, engaging conversation for anyone, however, I encourage those who may not engage with younger people on a routine basis to give this a listen or watch. Â I am confident that by the end, you will feel just as encouraged, hopeful, proud, & inspired as I was.

On this Junto Podcast special, my brother joins me as he recounts a near death experience he had in 1995 and the challenges he has faced in life ever since. Â While he has made dramatic strides, he still faces challenges today as a result of the trauma. Â

đ¨ Have you thought about the amount  of TRAUMATIC content you take in on a daily or weekly basis? Â
What about what your kids are exposed to?Â
Studies show that being exposed to large amounts of information can cause apathy and when it comes to content that is traumatic, it can allow us to become desensitized and  unempathetic to serious situations.Â
On #Episode 49 we start the conversation of being âExposed & Desensitizedâ and reiterate the importance of not allowing ourselves to grow cold or accustomed to things that should, for all intents and purposes, make us uncomfortable.

Join us for part 1 of âBible Words Explainedâ as we take an in depth look at some Bible words and unpack their meaning over conversation. Â Often times the meaning or context of Bible terms are overlooked or under explored but with Scripture, there is always something new to discover. Â Even Bible words that we might be familiar with have something new to teach us. Â In part 1 of Bible Words Explained, we take a closer look at:
Grace: Godâs undeserved favor/love toward man.
Justification: The reality that Christ has taken upon himself the punishment we deserve.
Sanctification: The dying of the old self (Pre-Christ) and the living of the new life (Unto God).
-Imputation: God credits/imputes his righteousness unto us as we credit our sin unto Him.

1 in 5 people will experience clinical depression at some point in their life. 1 in 5! (Source AACC)
If this were an epidemic that could be solved with money, fame, or influence, many of the actors, singers, and entertainers we have grown to love would still be with us today and more importantly, they would be here living the âabundantâ life and enjoying the fruits of their labors. Â
If there is no hope for the rich, famous, & influential, what hope could there possibly be for us? Â
I have to say that I was impacted by Twitchâs passing recently. Not because I was a big fan per se, or that I followed his career, but because I would have never seen that coming from him based on his content. Â In fact, the video posted 2 days prior to his suicide on his #tiktok showed a happy, talented, influential man who was living his best life. Â
On #Episode 46 we talk about the importance of being a âgatekeeperâ to the friends and family in our care. Â Depression, anxiety, & suicide still plague us, even as believers, but we know that the âabundantâ life can be found in Christ and that hope doesnât exist in money, fame, or influence, but Hope is a person, and His name is Jesus. Â Jesus tells all who are weary and worn out to come to Him and He will give us rest. Â

What were you doing when the world shut down? Â What were your initial thoughts, or better yet, what were your initial emotions when you first heard of Covid? Â In Episode 44 we reflect on the surreal time of the Covid-19 quarantine and how it is still affecting us today.
The covid quarantine experiment exposed and confirmed the state of peopleâs mental health, as a whole, and reaffirmed the importance of relationships and being in community. Â It exposed and answered the question for many businesses of âcan a work at home model be successful?â Â It exposed the resilience of people and the importance of faith in a higher power, namely God (Jehova).Â
So much has changed that will never return to the way it was pre-covid, but regardless of how you view covid-19 or the pandemic, it is clear that we are living in a new world. Â We are living the Post Pan Life.
What is something that you learned about yourself, or the world during quarantine?

March 21, 1998, was a big day in my lifeâŚA young 20 year old on the brink of manhood.  Certainly, I still looked like a boy, and probably still felt like one too.  This was the day that I would meet my wifeâŚYeah, I knew her, and we had, up to this point, had previous encounters, but we were both too young before. Â
On Episode 43 Heather and I share briefly about this encounter that changed both of our lives and deliver 20 marriage hacks, 1 for each year that weâve been married, in hopes that these tid bits of what weâve learned over the years might be a help or encouragement to someone else. đ˘ On Episode 42 I had the opportunity to chat with CrossFit Coach and owner of @crossfit870garage, Dickie Logan.
This is not your typical workout inspired conversation where the focus is on physical attributes only, but an honest conversation about the benefits of staying active, pushing yourself beyond what you thought you could do, and the importance of being in community.
If youâre anything like I was pre-crossfit, the first word that might come to mind when discussing CrossFit might be something like âcultâ, âExtreme Athleteâ, or, well, âstupidâ. đ¤ˇđťâŚ I get it. Â
By no means, at my age, do I consider myself to be any type of âathleteâ but I can say that it sure feels good to be active. To push through. To get it done, & to be doing it with others who are pushing themselves right along with you.  Since doing CrossFit I might still describe it as, well, stupidâŚ.but not in the literal sense of the wordâŚIn fact, the only reason I might say itâs stupid is because itâs hard.  Itâs really, really hard at times.  But this is also the same reason that I keep going back.  You see in the moment, when itâs hard, is when we have the option to quit or to keep pushing passed the boundaries we have set for ourselves, or that our body has set for us.  The reward, for me, is simply to complete the workout and to know that I was able to look hard in the face, and keep going.

On the latest episode of the @junto.podcast I had the opportunity to sit down with friend and author of âKeepsake Letters To My Childâ, Lupita Wiles.
During our conversation Lupita shares her inspiration for writing the book and highlights the importance of building a legacy for family. Â The book is an interactive read in that Lupita shares her letters, but gives the reader a section to write their own letters to the ones they love or to the ones they wish to leave a parting legacy.Â
Keepsake Letters To My Child was written during the peak of the covid lockdown and is a product of deep introspection with the realization of the importance of verbalizing to those we love, what truly is important in our life. Â In spite of the isolation. Â In spite of the loneliness and fear. Â In spite of all of the uncertainty. Â Relationships were strengthened, priorities were realigned, faith was increased, and beautiful works of heartfelt art were produced. Â This book is a product of all of these things.Â
What letter would you write if you could and who would you write it to? Â

Brad also emphasizes the need for mental health reform, a subject near to my own heart, for our first responders not only in Crittenden County, but across the nation. Â Oftentimes it is hard for our first responders, our heroâs, to seek help for mental health related issues since they are held in such high regard. Science, Prayer, and Gratitude seem like an unlikely combination but believe it or not, there are times when all three of these overlap to aid us in the everyday need for dealing with stress, depression, and anxiety.
In recognizing October 10th as âWorld Mental Health Dayâ we felt the need to continue the conversation about mental health by looking at some statistics on mental health, approached from the lens of faith.

âď¸ Where did our Halloween traditions come from and how much have these traditions evolved over time? As we get further removed from our past the history of tradition can get lost in the midst of current culture but there is still plenty of information available to give us a great snapshot of how our ancestors celebrated, or not celebrated, the halloween season.Â
In Episode 37 we discuss some of the traditions, mainly rooted in the Catholic Church, and discuss how they have evolved into what we now call Halloween. Â We also discuss 6 ways you can celebrate the season of halloween while also incorporating your Christian beliefs in the process!
All Hallowtide is comprised of 3 days beginning on October 31st and ending on Nov 2nd and includes All Hallows Eve (shortened to Halloween), All Saints Day (All Hallows), and All Souls Day. We also discuss several ways that we can enjoy this holiday while still being a light in our communities and extending love to our neighbor!
We know that peoples views of Halloween are broad and can be extreme on both sides of the spectrum but for us, we approach this season as an opportunity to spend time with friends and family and of course, any time is a good time to love your neighbor and show love.

On Episode 35 I highlight some differences in perspective between students and/or leaders who have mastered the art of having a successful mindset, versus those who operate out of a victim or struggling mindset.
While we may all have bad days, there are certain traits that we must master in order to see positive changes in our lives on a permanent basis. Â Having a successful mindset is not equated with wealth or material things alone, rather focused on living a life with purpose and intention. Â As the course work put out by OnCourse demonstrates, (On Course, Strategies for Success in College, Career, and Life; Skip Downing, Jonathan Brennan) it takes work to develop a âCreator Mindsetâ, which ultimately implies that individual responsibility, not external circumstances, is the creator of your own destiny. Â That through personal accountability, not victimhood, are you able to accomplish your goals and dreams.
Which mindset do you have? Â Do you have believe in personal and individual accountability, or are you a victim that believes other people and circumstances are the ultimate cause of you not achieving your goals. Â Comment Below!

According to U.S. News and World Report (Jan, 2022) 1 in 5 college students is raising a child while pursuing a degree of higher education. Even further, 53% of that demographic is raising a child 6 years of age or younger.
On Episode 34 Iâm joined by Jamie Woodson, Director of Career Pathways Initiative at Arkansas State University Mid-South. As the cost of education continues to rise, Career Pathways offers resources to those parents, both custodial and non custodial, who are at or below a designated income level, with resources and financial incentives to help ease the burden associated with parenting while attending college.
Data shows that the median age of students in the program is 30 years old and while many students who fit this decscription often feel somewhat hidden, statistics show that older students with children of their own make for better students. Â They are more engaged with their professors and more concerned about truly learning the coursework they are involved in. Â Furthermore, retention rates are higher among this demographic.

On Episode 31 Iâm joined by Photographer and military advocate, Kara Hackney who has dedicated her instagram page to bringing awareness and remembrance to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty and who are actively serving.
After the events in Kabul Afghanistan in August 2021, Kara, like most of us, was disheartened at the unnecessary loss of life and the circumstances surrounding the entire evacuation process. Â Kara was so hurt and angry that she almost vowed to get rid of social media completely. Â It is truly an overwheeming and helpless feeling when it seems that there is nothing that can be done in such tragic circumstances but in true military fashion, and with true Marine grit, Kara decided to dedicate her social media to honoring the 13 killed in Kabul as well as survivors and others actively serving. Â Kara herself is daughter to a Vietnam veteran and granddaughter to WWII veterans so a legacy of military service is a natural passion for her.
In this episode we discuss ways we can keep the memory alive of those that were lost in Kabul and talk about the importance of supporting our military families. Please give Kara a follow on Instagram here âĄď¸ @KaraHackneyk. You can catch this episode and others here!! âŹď¸âŹď¸âŹď¸

In Episode 24 I am joined by pastors Michael Smith (Lead Pastor) and Haley Bryant (Womenâs Pastor) of Victory Church of the Mid-South for a dialogue on Holy Week. Â Holy Week is significant in the life of a believer as scripture details the final week of the earthly life of Christ.
From the triumphal entry on Sunday, to the crucifixion on Friday, there were significant events that took place during the final week of Jesus life yet scripture recounts that Jesus was obedient to the will of the Father, even unto death, even knowing what was awaiting Him within a short period of time. Â
It is pointed out during the conversation that Friday, being the final day of Jesus earthly life was about what was happening to Him but that Saturday, the day that hope must have seemed lost and dead in the hearts of the people, was about what happened to us. We had lost our hope of a King.
Thankfully, this week ends with the pinnacle of Christianity when Jesus fulfilled His promise and resurrected on the third day. Â I hope you enjoy the conversation on Holy Week! Â Donât forget to follow us on YouTube here!
