Britney Spears has been under a permanent conservatorship since 2008. All financial and personal decisions must be approved by her conservators, including her father, Jamie Spears. Britney has earned hundreds of millions of dollars during this time, performing and touring extensively, while being deemed too impaired by the courts to be in control of her life. Britney is one of the most recognizable celebrities in the world, yet very little of the massive media coverage she generates has focused on the conservatorship until recently as the #FreeBritney movement has grown. Why aren't more people aware that Britney Spears has been under a permanent conservatorship for more than 13 years? Why and how is it possible that one of the most famous women in the world has remained in a virtual prison of lawyers, managers, and handlers with no end in sight? Eat, Pray, Britney tries to draw attention to the restrictive situation Britney is currently in, while also examining her life and career through a feminist lens.
