Over 60 million people in the U.S. play fantasy sports—that’s one in almost five people. Game developers need to keep rolling out new and exciting opportunities to keep these gamers engaged.
How is one company, GameOn, leveraging Web 3.0 to do just that?
On today’s episode of Gossip About Gossip by Hedera, podcast Host and SVP of Communications at Swirlds Labs, Zenobia Godschalk, speaks with Matt Bailey, CEO of GameOn, about what GameOn is and how they are leveling up the sports and fantasy gaming experience on Web 3.0 through their Karateka launch.
Godschalk and Bailey also discuss…
The journey GameOn has taken to get to where they are now
How GameOn is leveraging blockchain technology for the fantasy sports industry
GameOn’s cross-chain compatibility and partnership with Hedera
Bailey covered the Web 3.0 benefits. “Let’s use the karate combat partnership that we have as an example… We’re going to be selling playable digital fighters. So, every fighter in the karate combat league, you’re going to be able to buy them. They’ll be limited at 200 per fighter but it will look and feel like the actual fighter that’s fighting in the live events. With that playable digital fighter, notice we’re not calling it an NFT. Of course, it is an NFT, but it’s a playable digital fighter. You can gear it up, so you can buy gear like weapons and shorts and other different items that can not only change the look of your playable digital fighter, but can also give it an advantage in games,” he stated.
Matt Bailey is CEO of GameOn and Founder & Board Director of Brooklyn Kings Rugby League. He is an entrepreneur breaking into the future of Web 3.0 games. He has served as an Adjunct Professor for Clark University, Senior Director, Brand Partnerships, for LiveStyle, Inc., and Director, Global Partnerships for Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, amongst other roles. Bailey attended the University of Technology Sydney, where he earned a Bachelor of Management in Sport & Exercise.

Farmers deal with various pests during growing seasons. Currently, there isn’t a public database for pest data to be uploaded and presented. The lack of available data makes it difficult for these growers to know what pests to expect and when they should start treatment. Treatment at the wrong time affects our food crops as well as the environment.
Public Pest Network is a public decentralized database where pest data can be published and then shared in a way that is easy to understand. In this Gossip About Gossip episode, Hedera’s Paul Madsen and Cooper Kunz are joined by Katie Grubb, an Entomologist at the University of Kentucky, and Bryan Racic, a Software Engineer.
The Public Pest Network’s user-friendly interface, heat map distribution of data, and pest prediction system, give entomologists and growers an easy way to communicate pest data to save crops and encourage minimal pesticide use.
Listen to the entire podcast and learn how data science, data aggregation, and a next-generation distributed ledger technology deal with pest control and protect our food supply.

These questions and more are addressed by Hedera’s Paul Madsen in this Gossip About Gossip episode with Manetu’s Product Strategist Terry Keene and Strategic Advisor Nathaniel Rand.

What is MVD and how can you manage decentralization without going too far?
Join Hedera’s Cooper Kunz in this Gossip About Gossip episode with Amazon’s Alexa Software Developer Summer Intern, Tune.fm’s Hashgraph Implementation Consultant and Lead Developer, and Bluesky’s volunteer researcher, Rahul Kothari.
From the Software Developer perspective, Rahul shares the concerns enterprises have with blockchain technology and why he turned his attention away from Ethereum. Blockchain forking represents a very real risk to enterprise adoption. “Hedera is the most enterprise-facing DLT out there in the market, out of all them that I’ve seen.”
The Minimum Viable Decentralization means the minimum decentralization you need to achieve distributed trust that blockchain provides without going overboard. Enterprises will face only minimal changes to their codebase. Rahul points out that not many people address the negative aspects of decentralization, such as catching bad actors. Bad actors can cause massive havoc, which is why the final goal should be a high degree of anonymity without allowing bad actors to escape responsibility. This is what Hedera Consensus Service achieves.
Rahul is supporting Jack Dorsey’s project, Bluesky. Jack Dorsey, and others, have identified that data can be a liability, which is why Bluesky is attempting to decentralize a social media protocol that can still be easily accessed by everyone.
Listen to the entire interview and learn how a healthy balance of decentralization will address privacy and fake news issues without relying on a centralized database.
You can find Rahul at rahul-kothari.github.io.

Join Hedera’s Paul Madsen and Cooper Kunz in this Gossip About Gossip episode with Jay Johnson, CTO of The Coupon Bureau.
Jay shines a light on the overwhelming fraud surrounding the transparency, and accountability when using 350 billion coupons per year. The Coupon Bureau is addressing how coupons are settled, reconciled, and validated without the use of a centralized database.
Coupons enhance loyalty programs and retailers are incentivized to provide higher valued coupons as fraud is reduced. Future coupon campaigns will leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to capture additional use cases for consumers.
With The Coupon Bureau revolutionizing the industry, coupons are live within 5 minutes, rather than 10-15 days, and quick campaign results are produced; compressing 6 weeks down to a single day. Jay points out that the coupon industry could possibly be the world’s most unregulated legal tender.
