We're Dominic and Erica, a British and American husband and wife podcast that chats about topics you might discuss with a friend over Tea and a Butty. Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/teaandabutty/support
You read that right. We're now music critics. Bet you weren't expecting that, were you? We're talking about Taylor Swift's newest offering 'The Life of a Showgirl' which seemed to have been released to a rather flat reception. Have a listen to our thoughts on it!
Are you a Swifty?
This week is all about the pop culture of this month and we're chatting about the breakthrough in the 1991 Yogurt Shop Murders case, JK Rowling and Emma Watson's feud, Electronic Arts being bought and taken private and the wedding of Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco! Oh! There's also a quiz! Because we know you love quizzes, right??
It's Food this week. We're going on a rant (Well, Dominic is) about garlic not being used much in Italian cuisine. Also we examine his obsession with chicken vesuvio. But most of all, we're running through the list of popular Italian-American dishes that are unknown in Italy. Can they truly be called Italian? Are they Stateside creations only? Let us know your thoughts!
We screwed up. We got so excited about Memphis that we forgot it was the TV episode last week, so we're changing things up and making THIS episode about TV and we're talking about the Emmys which aired this past Sunday.
What was your favourite moment of the Emmys?
It's a bit of a long one this week! We're back and we're chatting about our recent trip to Memphis, Tennessee. The weekend was a pilgrimage to the birthplace of Rock and Roll and the King of Rock and Roll himself; Elvis Presley. Touring Graceland was amazing and in this episode, we talk about the other sights we saw around Memphis!
Have you ever been to Memphis??
What do Jax Taylor, Kirsten Dunst and Taylor Swift all have in common? Well, they're being talked about on this episode of our non-award winning podcast! Is Taylor Swift engaged? Yes, this week is our pop culture news round up of August 2025! Also, a quiz, compiled by Erica, in which Dominic gets to answer the hard hitting questions!
What was your pop culture moment this month?
This episode is not rage bait like many might think, but a look at the differing opinion on people from the US when they declare themselves as Irish-American or Scottish-American. We also discuss the current craze around black Scottish tik-tok creators and the apparent surprise that they exist!
What do you think about your heritage?
You ever see people raving about a particular food and you're thinking "Yeah, you don't really like that, you just want to because it's trendy"?? Yeah, me too. This week we're going all out about these foods and bickering about ground beef in Enchiladas!
What's a food you absolutely cannot stand??
This week, we're discussing the current adaptation of the Buccaneers on Apple TV. To be honest, we do kind of savage it a little bit. Okay, a LOT. But does it deserve it? Yes? No? Maybe? Have a listen and let us know what you think!
Who do you think Nan should end up with?
Since this is our bonus episode week, we're talking about the games that we've been playing and go on a little bit of a rave about Red Dead Redemption 2. So, apologies for those who absolutely detest that game and we respectfully ask you what is wrong with you? Eh? EH?!
Have you played any games this month that you just can't seem to stick with?
It's Pop Culture and Quiz week! We briefly talk about the Diddy verdict and the Texas flooding before launching into the viral moment of the Coldplay concert. If you haven't seen it yet, then you likely will. We also quiz Erica based on who's been in the news this month!
What is your favourite bit of pop culture from July?
This week, we're asking you whether we should go hiking all over the Cotswold countryside in England! The Cotswold Way is a trail that's over 100 miles long and takes in some of the most charming and quaint villages and towns in the Cotswolds on the way to Bath.
Would you like to see us walk the Cotswold Way??
This week, we're talking about British Indian cuisine and American Indian cuisine. Well, we were until we got on a nostalgic talk about our love affair with the stuff and Erica's first taste of Chicken Tikka Masala!
What was your first experience of Indian food like?
This episode, we're discussing all the best news in TV, Film and Music. Squid Game, The Gilded Age and Ginny and Georgia are all on their third season. Brad Pitt was in Austin to promote F1 and the 26th Bond film gets a director!
What are you excited for in this season of TV?
Yes! It's Pop Culture week again! This week we're chatting about Bezos' wedding in Venice getting a makeover by activists, Katy Perry's done another weird thing on tour, and Andy Cohen tells us about the time he got his arse handed to him by Barbara Walters.
What has been your favourite pop culture tidbit this month??
We all have family in jokes that only you and your family will understand but today we're looking at sayings and terms that maybe you only say within your family! Or maybe you call something that isn't the norm and your family thinks you're weird?
Does your family have a saying or a term that's foreign to outsiders?
Candy, or as it's known in the UK 'Chocolate and Sweets', has a lot of dubious history around the world but perhaps nowhere more than the UK. We're talking about the adulteration of sweets in Britain that lead to the deaths of 20 people in Bradford and what exactly is an 'Unclaimed Baby'??
What are your favourite candies??
In this episode we're talking about Downton Abbey's third film 'The Grand Finale'. Not much has been given away about the plot. Virtually nothing at all, in fact. So we come up with theories ranging from Matthew and Sybil's return to the grand finale being a fast forward to the present time.
What are your theories on the plot of the film?
If the title of this episode didn't have you finishing with "...walk into a bar" then we can't be friends.
Joking I am. Of course we can be friends. Especially if you listen to this episode and all the pop culture references we make that are absolutely up to date and fresh and zingy. We're talking about GTA VI and who could be the lead actors.
Are you excited for GTA VI??
We're talking about our trip to Rome, Italy in this travel episode. Where we went, the things we saw, the food we ate, the people we talked with and the scammers that scammed us!
Have you been to Italy??
We're discussing the small, regional chain of Braum's in this episode. Yes, we've talked about their ice cream before but we need to talk about it again! Especially how fresh and delicious it is! Also, their food isn't bad either!
Have you ever been to Braum's??
Well, we've got it all to play for this week. We start on a tangent about One Tree Hill and then segue-way into Severance, before landing neatly in the Valley. Quite a ride, I'd say!
What have you all been watching this month?
Gaming has been a part of our lives for a good 30 years. From our first experiences with early consoles such as Sega Megadrive and Nintendo 64 through to the thoroughly modern PC rigs of today, we take you on a gaming journey and what we've been playing recently!
What are your favourite computer games to play?
As the title suggests, it's been a bit of a month for pop culture. A crew consisting of Katy Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, Aisha Bowe and Amanda Nguyen launched their astronautical careers and flew up to space where they duly conquered it in a respectable 11 minutes. We speak about other topics too! Things are getting a bit crazy in the white lotus eating world with Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood confounding eagle eyed social media users with their feudal antics.
What's your view on these topics?
With the recent news that Universal are planning to open their first theme park in Europe on UK soil (In Bedford, to be exact! Yay Bedford?) we're discussing what the attractions might be compared to other Universal theme parks in the US.
We're also discussing British theme parks and what their differences usually are. Haunted 17th century stately homes, anyone?
What is your favorite theme park?
Living in Texas, there's two things you should have heard of; Chip and Joanna Gaines and Braum's. Probably David Koresh too? But what does that have to do with British import prices, I hear you cry! Well, it doesn't. Next month, we'll talk more about Braums and less about David Koresh. Maybe Dominic will finally make that $11?
Anyway, have you ever tried to make Clotted cream?
As it is April Fools, we decided to fool you all with a cunning ruse. Did we fool you? Perhaps we only fooled ourselves! This week, we're talking about the exciting news that Ted Lasso will be returning. Also mentioned are Harry Potter, Bond 26 and Downton Abbey!
What are you most looking forward to?
This week we're chatting the best culture news headlines. Stuff like Mary Berry, James Kennedy and Gwen Stefani all closing down stores in America. Terrible stuff. That would be weird, wouldn't it? Weirder than Dominic West leaving a note for the paparazzi and then lurking to see if they'd find it? No? What about Lindsay Lohan attempting to kidnap someone's children? Probably not either.
What is the weirdest thing a celebrity has done?
You've read and heard numerous times about Americans abroad and how loud and obnoxious they are but now, it's the Brits turn to be called out on their manners abroad! Dominic also recounts some stories of his time as a Brit on holiday in Europe.
What are your experiences with Brits abroad?
Since Sticky Toffee Pudding was invented, presumably sometime in the 1970s, the UK has been in love and you'd be hard pressed to find a restaurant in the entire UK that doesn't have it on its menu and it's no wonder! It's sticky, gooey, deliciousness that should have had the same impact as the Beatles did in America but it's not really caught on!
Have you ever tried Sticky Toffee Pudding?
This week we're discussing the Brit awards and Sabrina Carpenter's performance along with the Oscar shenanigans and the mysterious death of Gene Hackman and his wife. Erica also talks about the show Outer Banks and her plans to force Dominic to watch it with her again.
What was your favourite part of the Oscars??
We're chatting about the BAFTA and SAG award shows this week in our pop culture extravaganza. We also touch on the Eastenders 40th anniversary and whether the Queen Vic is going to be alright. Also, there's Erica's quiz, which Dominic totally fails so be sure to listen to that!
Have you all been watching the Baldwins reality show??
When you think about New York City, are your first thoughts about the place that it's full of drugs, prostitutes and hot dogs? If so, then you might have moved to New York in 1975 when Saturday Night Live began, 50 years ago. In this episode, we chat about the 50th anniversary of the show and how much New York City is going back to the 1970s.
What are your thoughts about New York City?
This week, we're discussing that age old stereotype that won't seem to go away: Blandness in British food. Well, it's much better than baldness in British food. Us Brits like our food hairy thank you very much! But really, how bland is British food? Did we really conquer lands just to sell the spices??
Do you find British food bland?
In this week's episode, we take a depressing look at shows on Britbox. If you think Kenneth Branagh waddling his way around London as Boris Johnson isn't depressing enough, just wait till you hear us talking about what happened at this year's Grammy awards in LA! Taylor Swift was also very depressed by the results.
What have you been watching this week?
This week we're discussing two of the most important people in the world today: Blake 'Khaleesi' Lively and Justin 'I Like Sentimental Blake' Baldoni and their long, drawn out law suit over their alleged aborted affair that Ryan Reynolds walked in on and shouted at Justin about.
Will it end with them? Let us know!
If you're a Tik Tok user, especially an American Tik Tok user, then the past weekend has been a roller coaster. Between the service going dark on late Saturday night to resuming on late Sunday, Tik Tok users were left wondering about Americans fate on the app but now it's back, but is it the same? We're discussing that very thing in this week's episode.
Let us know your thoughts!
In 2007, Erica first tasted that literal slice of heaven known as a custard slice from a bakery chain in south Wales called Jenkins. It is two slices of rough puff pastry with a thick set heavy custard in between and icing on top. It's a variation of the original French dessert known as the Mille-Feuille (Napoleon Pastry). In this episode, we take Erica back to her first experience of it and her continuing love for it.
Have you ever had a custard slice?
We're talking about what new Christmas movies we've watched this year! What are your favourites? And what didn't quite ring your jingle bells??
This week we're talking about the shows and films we've been re-watching like Downton Abbey, Outlander and The Man Who Invented Christmas.

In this podcast, we're talking about the ITV/PBS series, Victoria, which is based on the life of Queen Victoria. This season is airing in the U.S. before it airs in the U.K. and people in Britain are not happy about it. Do Americans just like the British royal family more than Brits, or is there another reason for its early broadcast in the United States? And just how factual is this series anyway? Was Queen Victoria actually as attractive as actress Jenna Coleman? Was Prince Albert as forward thinking as he is portrayed in this series, or was he more like his portrayal in Blackadder's Christmas Carol? So. Many. Questions! But, we're determined to get to the bottom of it. Tune in and then let us know if you watch this show, and if so, what you think about it.

In the last episode of this series, we're discussing pubs: how and where to order food, the kinds of foods you can find in pubs, who actually owns the pub, and more. What's the difference between a pub and a bar? What's the American equivalent of British "pub culture"? Dominic does his best to try and convince us all that a drink called a Woo Woo actually exists. But, whether it does or not, should you expect to be able to order one in a typical pub? We try our best to answer all your burning questions in our tenth podcast. Tweet us, Facebook us or let us know in the comments whether your local pub has lasagna and or chicken tikka masala on the menu!

In our latest installment, we're discussing British and American fast food chains. From A&W to KFC to McDonald's to Taco Bell, the list of U.S. fast food chains seems endless. In fact, there are way too many for us to cover them all in a 30-minute podcast. But again, the list of UK chains is minuscule with Wimpy* being one of the more famous ones. Have we finally answered the question as to why there are no British fast food chains in America? Tune in to find out. And let us know in the comments, or tweet or Facebook us, whether you like to eat fast food, and if so, which restaurant(s) is your favorite?
*After recording this podcast, we learned that Wimpy was actually originally an American chain that started in Chicago, but over time all of its American locations closed.

Our latest podcast finds us talking about chain restaurants in America and the UK. Erica lets visitors to the UK know what they can expect when ordering a drink with their meal in a chain restaurant in Britain. For the love of God, what do the British have against ice?! Are there any restaurants whose popularity stretches across the Atlantic? And why are there so many more chains in the United States than in Britain? Leave your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below or on Twitter or Facebook.

We're baaaack. After a somewhat annoying end to the year which included a computer hard drive that died, taking with it a few pre-recorded podcasts, among other projects, we've taken a breath, and a little break to regroup, and we're starting this new year afresh with a new series for you all. And yes, if you guessed that it's a food series, you guessed right, because everyone knows we apparently love talking about nothing else, the way we love talking about food! In the first episode of this series we'll discuss American foods you'll have a hard time finding in Britain and vice versa. Never visited a grocery store in another country? You don't know what you're missing. We highly recommend adding a trip to a local supermarket as part of your next travel itinerary, just don't expect to find root beer in the UK or prawn cocktail crisps in America.

Our sixth podcast finds us talking about Christmas movies. We discuss which movies are especially popular in the UK, as well as which movies Americans tend to favor. Are they the same or are there popular films in Britain that we Americans have never heard of? They show A Christmas Story for 24 hours on television during Christmas in the United States, but is it as popular in the UK? Also, Dominic and I discuss our personal favorite Christmas flicks. We want to know your top favorite Christmas movies. Let us know in the comment section below or, as always, tweet, Instagram, or Facebook us.

This podcast is all about how Christmas traditions differ between the United States and Great Britain. When and how is the season kicked off in each country? What do American children and British children traditionally leave out for Santa? And what the heck are Christmas crackers? Also, Erica invites any and everyone who goes caroling (and doesn't live in a Hallmark movie) to come knock on her door to sing, because she doesn't know anyone who actually does that these days. Do all British kids leave their stockings on the end of their beds or is that just something strange Dominic grew up doing? What are your Christmas traditions? We're dying to know!

Our latest podcast is all about desserts! We're talking about everything from British staples like Sticky Toffee Pudding and Eton Mess to American go-to's such as Apple Pie and Brownies. Also, Dominic drops a major bombshell on me by revealing he had never eaten Banana Pudding before he came to America! What exactly is Angel Delight and Blancmange? Is there a difference between the British Jelly and American Jell-O? Find out the answers to all these questions and more in our new episode. Also, we're curious, what's your favorite dessert? We know we left out tons of delicious sweet treats. Be sure to let us know which ones, so we can discuss them on a future podcast. If we use your suggestion, we'll be sure to give you a shout-out!

There was recently a poll of Magic Radio listeners to determine Britain's list of the Top Twelve Christmas songs of all time. Who topped the list, and did we agree? Today we're talking about Christmas music from Britain and America: How do the countries' Christmas tunes differ? Are there songs that are popular in one country but not in the other? Find out the answers to all these questions, and which songs are on our own personal lists of the top Christmas songs of all time in our latest podcast.

This episode is all about biscuits! Now, if you're American, you're thinking about the delicious fluffy bread with a somewhat crispy outside that we eat with sausage and gravy, or sometimes honey, or sometimes fruity jam (I said "jam" purposefully for our British readers/listeners, as "jelly" means something entirely different for them.), but if that is indeed what you're thinking, you'd be wrong! Because today, we're talking about British biscuits, which are actually what we Americans call cookies! That's right, we'll be discussing Hobnobs and Jammie Dodgers (like those pictured above) and everything in between. We'll also be comparing and contrasting British and American cookies. Here's the ultimate question though: cookies or biscuits? Let us know down in the comments!

In our premiere podcast episode, Dominic and I spill the tea about, well... tea! We talk about all things tea-related in Britain and America and how tea varies in each of our countries. Can you get iced tea at restaurants in Britain? Are you supposed to put milk in Earl Grey? Is tea-drinking still as popular in Britain as it once was? We discuss all these things and more in our very first podcast! Let us know in the comments below if you're a tea drinker, and if so, how you take it.
