As my wife and i sit in church we sometimes wonder “What Are We Even Doing Here?” Not because we don’t believe, but because we do. It is crazy that years ago we didn’t believe in Jesus. We were a young and struggling married couple with a young daughter. But thanks to God’s soveriegnty and His use of a believer, I came to believe in Jesus. About two years later God changed Karen’s heart and she was brought to belief. Now we look back in amazement and see where we are today, knowing we don’t deserve to be here, and ask, “What Are We Even Doing Here?” I’m sure you all have asked this question for one reason or another. This question is asked both in our personal lives and life in general. “Why are we here? What is our purpose? What is this world?”During this podcast we hope to explore these questions and more. We will share our story as husband, wife, and parents as God continues to work in our lives. We will seek to answer what we are even doing here from a biblical perspective. Come along on our adventure and find out “What Are We Even Doing Here?”
Here is a passage where Jesus speaks of things to come. You can trust what He said would happen.

Jesus calls out the scribes for being hypocrites. Then He points out how our heart should be as He notices the widow give from her poverty.
www.christianpodcastcommunity.org
Continuing to march through and with Mark, Jesus now after being asked questions by the Pharisees, Herodians, Sadducees, and Scribes, now asks a question of His own. He asks about a Psalm many should know. Listen and see how you answer Jesus.
www.christianpodcastcommunity.org
Jesus is now asked by a Scribe which is the most important commandment. How will Jesus answer?

Last Lord's Day morning I filled in for our usual Sunday School teacher as River of Life OPC in Phillipsburg NJ. We went over some apologetic methodology and I shared some encouragement in sharing the Gospel.
(Please show some grace as the audio is not the best. I did not record how I usually do for sermons.)

Continuing to march through and with Mark at River Of Life OPC Phillipsburg, NJ. More religious men come to test and trap Jesus. But Jesus will not be trapped. He will correct these men in love.
www.christianpodcastcommunity.org
The Pharisee and the Herodians want Jesus to blaspheme and now go against the Romans government as well. But Jesus will not fall into the trap. Give to Ceaser what is his and to God what is His. What belongs to God?

I started short video clips encouraging Christians to sleep well. This was originally started a few years ago and I would do a video daily. The last few years have been busy so I usually just do one a week on Lord's Day evening. I hope these short audio clips will be an encouragement here as well. This one is based on my last sermon this is also posted here. Mark 12:1-12 titled Marvelous Or Meaningless?
Christians, sleep well every night! You are forgiven in Christ.

Jesus continues His conversation with the religious leaders after they asked Him where His authority is from? He gives them this parable about them. Listen to hear what Jesus also says to you.
www.christianpodcastcommunity.org
The authority of Jesus is challenges by the religious leaders in that day. Sad how the same hesitation they had still permeates the world of both Jew and gentile.

Continuing back on our journey marching through and with Mark, we see Jesus curse a fig tree, drive out those who made the temple of God into a marketplace, and then explain what the fruit of true faith can produce to His disciples.
www.christianpodcastcommunity.org
In this exhortation we step briefly away from marching through and with Mark as we celbrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We hear from Paul in Romans 5 and some of 6 of who are. Who we can be made to be. And what Jesus did to give us this free gift.

Once again, we are back marching through and with Mark. Here we see Jesus tell His disciples for a third time what must take place in Jerusalem. And then two of His disciples come to Jesus with a request. What did they ask for? What will Jesus say?
www.christianpodcastcommunity.org
After Jesus had become indignant when His disciples were rebuking people who were bringing children to Jesus, He then says that you must become like a child to enter the Kingdom of God. Now in the passage for our consideration, a rich young man, said to be in a ruler position, comes to Jesus asking the wrong question. "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" How will Jesus answer him?

As we head into the new year, and in the season of life River OF Life Church is in, I decided to hold off one more week from marching through and with Mark to focus on having patience. Not as the world has patience, but as Christians only can as we rejoice in hope of Jesus Christ and stay constant in prayer.

Last week we looked at the Old Testament passage that tells of the coming of the Child born and the Son given who would have the government on His shoulders. Today we looked at the fulfillment of that prophecy as recorded in Luke. It is fulfilled. It is true. Jesus Christ the Lord is born. And not only did the shepherds hear and see, so you have also!

Jesus takes sin seriously. He takes it seriously when you cause others to stumble. And He takes it seriously when you stumble. He goes so far to say that it is better to cut off body parts that cause you to stumble. Because sin is serious and hell is a serious place where you will go if you continue to stumble. Do not stumble into hell where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. Cut off your foot and limp into the arms of Jesus.
www.christianpodcastcommunity.org
As we are marching through and with Mark at River of Life OPC in Phillipsburg NJ, we have come to a passage where John, a disciple of Jesus, tells Him they saw a man casting out demons in His name, but he was not following them. What will Jesus say in response?
www.christianpodcastcommunity.org
Marching through and with Mark in Mark 9:33-37. Here Jesus tells His disciples what it means to be great in the Kingdom of God. It is not what they think.

On this Reformation Sunday (I mistakenly called the day Reformation Day though this was not delivered on Oct 31) we take a break from Mark to address this still most important issue of the true Gospel and the false gospel that still exists. There is only one truth. I hopefuly explained the truth of the Gospel of grace here as we look at what the Apostle Paul writes by the Holy Spirit.
www.christianpodcastcommunity.org
Continuing the march through and with Mark, we hear Jesus tell His disciples a second time of the Son of Man being handed over to men to be killed, and after three days rise. And they do not understand and do not ask. Do you understand?

Continuing to march through and with Mark at River Of Life OPC in Phillipsburg, NJ. In this passage Jesus tells His disciples of His mission to suffer, die, and rise. But Peter does not like this plan and tells the LORD. Peter had his mind on the things of man and not God. Then Jesus goes on to teach the crowd what it means to put your mind on the things of God and His Gospel and not the world.

Conversations With Two Unbelievers: A Brief Summary
Peter writes about giving a defense of our faith in 1 Peter 3:15. “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” For this project I had an opportunity to discuss what I believe and why I believe it with two different unbelievers. The goal was to stand on the truth of God’s word while honoring Christ as holy as Peter writes. However, my main goal was not only to defend what I believe and expose the unbeliever’s world view as untenable, but also to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The two unbeliever I spoke with had different world view from that of myself as well as from each other. One is a very skeptical person who claims to reject the Bible because it was written by men. He also claims to believe “science.” The other is more of an agnostic who claims things are too big for us to know, yet he believes there is someone who made the world and has a sense of spirituality.
Justin
My first discussion was with Justin. I do not know him very well and we only had a few discussions previously on Facebook. My family knows his wife from a church we used to attend together. In the conversation you will hear Justin make claims about science being true and how the bible is not because he believes it is just a book of the thoughts of man. Justin also explains that he hopes there is something after we die but he claims we do not know. One other important thing to know about Justin is that he is a vegan. He is enthusiastic about how mankind treats and mistreat animals. He is sort of a vegan apologist as he was trying to persuade me in the way of veganism.
As you listen to this conversation you will notice, at least in his presentation, that Justin really has not fully thought out what he believes. I tried my best to stay on target with him but there were a few times we went down rabbit holes. What I wanted to show him was the inconstancies in his world while pointing out to him that he knows God because he is made in His image. For example, Justin believes people should be good. I asked him by what standard should we be good? Not much was given from him in the way of an answer.
Shail
The second conversation was with Shail. I met Shail back in 2004 when I was his high school music teacher. We reconnected later in life bonding over New York Mets baseball.
Shail was raised in what seems to be a nominal Hindu family. He does not really follow Hindu teaching but does celebrate some Hindu holidays. When he told me this it reminded me of those who claim to be Christian but only attend church on Christmas and Easter.
As you listen to this conversation you will hear a very different world view from that of Justin. Shail believes there has to be something outside of mankind that created the world. He has a belief about the after life concerning the “energy” of people returning into the universe. Overall, Shail says some good things, but his foundation is shaky. He is not standing on the Rock of Christ.
Conclusion
In both conversations there were things I wanted to address but I had limited time. In the short time I desired to listen more and expose their inconsistencies when I could while getting to the Gospel as much as possible. I know there were points that I missed and times I may have gone off on tangents away from the covenantal approach, but I wanted to keep the conversation flowing. Most importantly, I wanted to point both these men to Christ, the true reason I believe what I believe.
A point that came up in both conversations was morality. If both men believe there are things humans should and should not do to other human beings it exposes that they are made in the image of God. Being made in God’s image they are in covenant with Him. As Dr Oliphint puts it in his book Covenantal Apologetics,
Once again had to opportunity to worship with the saints at Faith Bible OPC in Brick NJ. I was honored to exhort this sermon in the evening service. May it bless and encourage you.

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanse us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 John 1:5-10

On this episode I had the honor to talk with Pastor Jon Moffitt from the podcast Theocast. We talk about him and his show, as well as the sometimes-controversial topic of Lordship salvation. Please take a listen and hear his explanation of this subject, and why we must look to Christ for our salvation and not how well we follow Him.
Also, I mention on this episode that I am starting at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia, PA this summer. I can really use your prayers in getting through the next few years while balancing family, work, and now school. My goal is to eventually plant reformed churches wherever God leads. This process is also a financial commitment. The seminary has granted me a matching scholarship where they match donations up to a certain amount. On the episode I may have wrongly said they match the total amount given. I did not mean to be misleading.
I am asking if you would also consider partnering with me in this mission to gain proper biblical training and receive the tools to study, teach, and preach the Scriptures so many can hear the Gospel and be saved and encouraged by the Word of God. Please don't take away from your family or church giving.

There recently was a post shared by Tim Keller of a late-night talk show host talking about spiritual things. The post was shared by him saying it is an example of how to share our faith in the context. On this episode I briefly share why I do not agree and why I don't think the Bible agrees, specifically in the example the Apostle Paul gives us in Acts 17 as he addresses the context of the people of Athens.

I decided to release this interview episode with a couple of Theologically sound Teens `a few days early. I pray you will be as blessed listening to it as I was in interviewing these two young Christian men. As many young people are "deconstructing" I am very interested in talking to young people who have been brought up in Christianity. I have the honor of knowing these two teens, called by their nicknames on this recording, who are very mature beyond their years. Their answers to my questions are very thought out and genuine. While I give credit to their parents for bringing them up in the Lord, God is the one Who does the work in them. I pray they continue to grow in faith and that I am able to witness to their growth and life in Christ to come.
We discuss deconstruction, growing up in a Christian household, youth group, homeschool, and something fun at the end. Please forgive a few mic pops that occur, and the poor edit back in of the fun question I almost forgot to ask.
If you are a young person in Christ, I pray you are encouraged by these gentlemen who are standing firm in the truth of Christ. If you are a parent of young Christians, I pray this encourages you to keep discipling your children and answer their questions to the best of your ability or find the answers with them.

Even as Christians we still sin. When we do, come to God with a broken and contrite heart as we see David cry out in Psalm 51. On this episode i read this Psalm and briefly discuss it and how we can come to God forgiven. We are forgiven and continue in grace in Christ. But when we sin, we still need to confess and come to God in Christ. Always remember Christian, you are forgiven. Does this mean sin more? May it never be. But when we do, we can come with a broken and contrite heart in Christ covered in His blood. He lived and died for you.

On this episode I discuss my thought on the second commandment and how it relates to images of Jesus. Is it ok for Christians to watch movies, tv shows, and productions with actors playing the role of Jesus? Are nativity scenes a good thing? I do my best to explain what the Bible teaches with some help from the Westminster Larger Catechism.
“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Exodus 20:4

On October 24, 2021 I had the honor and privilege to preach at Faith Bible OPC in Brick, NJ. The text I preached from was Luke 15. This is the parable of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost prodigal son. I wanted to focus on the relentless pursuit of God in Christ for His lost children. Christ came to seek and save those who are lost. He seeks and saves those who are His. He find them and never will let them go.
Note, when I recorded this I forgot to record the reading of the Scripture. I recorded that again at home because you should hear the entire passage in context.
May this sermon bless you and leave you assured of salvation in Christ. If you are not a believer, may this sermon bring you to repentance and faith by the power of the Holy Spirit.

On this episode I was honored to interview a cohost of one of my favorite podcasts Revived Thoughts. Troy is very encouraging in his passion for truth and to serve the Lord. He and his partner Joel take old sermons that have never been recorded and have them narrated. They also give a history of the pastor who preached them originally as well as a history of what was going on at that time. When you listen it is not just like someone is reading a stiff paper. The narrators read as if they are preaching. In fact many of them are preachers. The sermons themselves are still relevant today. If you didn't know they were from pastors as far back as hundreds of years ago you'd think they were preached last Lord's day.
We hope this interview blesses and encourages you. It was an honor to interview Troy and hope to get him on again. Make sure you check out Revived Thoughts in the Christian Podcast Community or wherever podcasts can be found.

On this episode we talk about worship. Does God say how he is to be worshipped or can we worship Him however we want? After coming back from the G3 conference a few weeks ago this has still been on our minds. I ask Karen and Roo some questions about worship and we have a fun time discussing this as well as some other theological topics. We hope this conversation encourages you to think about these important matters.

After taking a few months off we are back. A lot has happened since our last episode back in September, but we are back and have plans to continue. In one of our last shows we talked about having a new foster child in our home. We have been adjusting to life going from one to three kids in one year. We hope to keep providing good Christian content as a husband and wife, and sometimes kids. But sometimes life may get in the way. It is all a blessing. We will just keep seeking the kingdom of God and finding what we are even doing here.

This episode is a replay from something we recorded early on in the history of this podcast. We take a trip each year to visit our friends in Maryland. We decided to sit down and record a casual conversation about what God has done in our lives. At the time Kyle and Hannah had recently had a baby that you will hear in the background. Jhoi was single and Karen and I didn’t have our foster children yet. We will be heading to Maryland again so stay tuned for the followup episode. Much has changed in a year but God has been faithful through it all. He always is! On this episode we go over Lord’s Day 2 of the Heidelberg Catechism. This begins the section on our sin and misery. We discuss the catechism and some of the Scripture references that the answers are drawn from. If you have a family or not we suggest going through a historic Christian catechism. Lord’s Day 2 Q & A 3
Q. How do you come to know your misery? A. The law of God tells me.1
1 Rom. 3:20; 7:7-25 Q & A 4
Q. What does God’s law require of us? A. Christ teaches us this in summary in Matthew 22:37-40:
“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’1 This is the greatest and first commandment.
“And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’2
“On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
1 Deut. 6:5 2 Lev. 19:18 Q & A 5
Q. Can you live up to all this perfectly? A. No.1 I have a natural tendency to hate God and my neighbor.2
1 Rom. 3:9-20, 23; 1 John 1:8, 10 2 Gen. 6:5; Jer. 17:9; Rom. 7:23-24; 8:7; Eph. 2:1-3; Titus 3:3 Heidelberg Catechism https://www.crcna.org/welcome/beliefs/confessions/heidelberg-catechism Help us make this podcast better. https://www.patreon.com/whatareweevendoinghere Christian Podcast Community https://strivingforeternity.org/cpc/cpc-podcasts/ https://whatareweevendoinghere.com

On this episode we got to have Andrew Rappaport over to discuss what the Bible says about women in ministry roles. Some of his comments caused a stir on social media a bit ago and we wanted to see what he had to say. More importantly we wanted to see what the Word of God has to say. I know not all agree on this but as Christians we need to believe what God says. We also discuss some of what happens to some pastors when they achieve celebrity status. Enjoy and if you want to give feedback please do so in a Christian way.

We decided that each month we will have an episode where we start to discuss a catechism. A catechism is a tool used to teach the what we believe as Christians. This is done in a question and answer form. There is a link below to the catechism we have decided to start with. You can find the history behind it as well as the biblical texts the questions and answers are drawn from. We hope to get through this entire catechism then move on to another one. It is important for Christians to know what we believe. It is also important to teach our children as well. We hope these episode benefit you in your walk with Christ.

On this episode we hope to answer what we are even doing at the abortion mill. Thousands of unborn babies are murdered everyday. Should Christians be going to where this is happening and providing a solution? Should Christians be going to where this is happening and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Many say this isn’t the way to address this problem. In this episode we look to the Bible to help us answer the question, “What happens to people who never hear the gospel?” We also try to tackle what happens to babies if they die before they can make a confession of saving faith. God has the answers and we can only tell you what we see in the Scriptures. If you have any insight on these issues please let us know. Thanks for joining us today as we continue chatting about abortion as well as dissecting a well shared post describing ways a "Pro-Life Christian can fight abortion rates." We don't know what that means, but we will discuss!
It's only fitting that we would talk about the elephant in the room: Abortion. But sadly, it's not only in the room... it's in every part of the world. It is something that has been going on for a long time but is continuing to gain acceptance and lose shock value through the guise of "legal" and "necessary." We only wish to inform and make our plea for the lives being sacrificed in the name of convenience and other un-excusable reasons.

In this episode we wander around on a few topics but primarily we discuss the importance of representing the other side of an argument accurately. Well, we attempt to do so. We probably misrepresented the people we talked about who misrepresent. We hope we didn’t. We were inspired to do so after watching a youtube show done by Leighton Flowers where he discussed arguments against Calvinism with Andy Stanley. They did not accurately represent the position and created a straw man argument. It is ok to disagree with someone but we should make sure the person you disagree with actually believes what you are arguing against. I am sure we are all guilty of this in one way or another, but we should take the time to understand the position of the other side as well as what the person personally believes. Check out that show as well as Dr James White”s comments about that interview on his show ‘the dividing line”.

In this week's giant episode three brothers in Christ got together and discuss God. Mainly they discuss His sovereignty. This was recorded while we were visiting friends in Maryland a few weekends ago. If you heard last week's episode you heard all of us talking about walking this Christian life. Here Daryl, Kyle, and Jhoi get deeper into theology. Some of this discussion can stir some opposing opinions in how the Scriptures are interpreted and we welcome a loving discussion if you disagree. Take a listen and see where we stand. Also, apologies for a humming noise in the background and a few bumps and bangs. There was a lot going on when we recorded. Kids and moms dancing upstairs as well as the hum of an air conditioner. And as I mentioned it is a giant episode. Probably the longest yet but that what happens when you get three theology nerds, who love the Lord and His word, together to talk. Enjoy!!

On this week's episode we had the amazing opportunity to sit down with great friends and brothers and sisters in Christ and discuss faith and life. We are all at different points in our lives and walk with Christ. Here we just sit down and have a raw discussion of Jesus saving us and where we are with Him today. We get silly at the end. This is such an organic conversation that you will hear the sweet cry of Kyle and Hannah’s adorable baby girl. We pray you will hear how Christ changes people and will continue His work until eternity. This was such a fun episode to record and we all hope you enjoy it and are encouraged and edified. Thank you so much Kyle, Hannah, Lydia, and Jhoi.
Join us this week as we talk about what it means to die to self. Matthew 16:24-25 "Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."
Join us this week as we discuss how important it is to trust God in everything we do.
Proverbs 3:5-6 English Standard Version (ESV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
God Bless! Daryl and Karen
In this week's episode, we seek to understand what a Disciple of Jesus is and how we should be discipling one another in our walk with God. Also, to replace the dog noises, we have added daughter noises this week. :)
Enjoy!
