When your marketing and sales aren't aligned, how exactly does it affect your business?
It definitely inhibits growth because increasing revenue is the primary function of marketing and sales. There's no alternative. And it is impossible to predictably and systematically drive new business without it.
Unless you establish a process for consistently driving quality traffic and converting that traffic into leads, you have zero chance of getting new sales opportunities.
At OneIMS, we've created our proprietary business development formula: Acquisition + Retention = Growth. Besides using it to help our clients achieve their business goals, we also rely on it internally.
So what does this formula mean? How does it work? And how can you implement it in your company? Tune in for today's episode of the Growth Marketers Podcast!

What is content marketing? Well, if you’re a digital marketing veteran, then chances are that the answer to this question is probably already clear.
But for those of us who may be newer or less familiar with what content marketing really means in practice, let's take it back to basics and dive into everything there is to be known about it.
So content marketing, at its heart, is really a strategic way to connect with your target audience by creating and sharing valuable content. The key word there is being valuable. So think about what topics or subjects your target audience would find interesting and useful.
Now, you don’t have to create new content every day. In fact, that can be pretty overwhelming and time-consuming. But you can certainly reuse and share your content on various platforms. The key is to make sure that the content you’re sharing is high quality and relevant to your target audience.
There are lots of different types of content you can create as part of your content marketing strategy. Some of the most popular include blog posts, ebooks, infographics, case studies, social media posts, and videos.
If you’re looking for a more strategic way to connect with your target audience, give content marketing a try. It may take a bit of effort to get started, but it can be well worth it in the long run.

It’s a common belief that keywords aren’t important anymore. Is that so? Do keywords still matter when it comes to your website? Let's figure out.
What metrics should I measure with my marketing campaigns? It comes down to the tactics and overall strategy. Let's explore this further. #3 What can you do in a short term to build a strong pipeline if you’re on a limited budget?
Unfortunately, there’s some threshold there depending on your industry, so it may be better to save your money or use them elsewhere. We’ll try to break it down.

Welcome to another episode of Growth Marketers Podcast! Today, we'll talk about marketing channels. How to choose the best one and where does it fit in your marketing strategy? One of the most common questions we hear from our listeners and clients is, “what channel is good for doing XYZ?” Not the best question to ask, but extremely common.
The thing is that when business leaders come to us for marketing help, they tend to be self-diagnosed with what they believe is the problem. They even prescribe their own treatment, giving us recommendations on what we should do, as well as the channels that they believe are best for marketing their business.
Those conversations are very common among B2B organizations, so let’s use this podcast as an opportunity to define what a channel really is and explain why the channel is not a strategy.
We’ll walk you through our process of how we go about the channel selection. We'll also talk about the questions you should ask before you decide which channel is going to be most effective for a particular campaign or strategy.

In today’s episode, we dive into the topic that is top of the mind for many of our listeners – short-term and long-term marketing efforts. We look at this from the perspective of sales activation and brand building, both of which might have the same end goal, but the way you go about them is entirely different.
Sales activation is just another word for "conversion". It occurs when a prospect decides it is finally time to make a purchase. Sales activation is all about moving from prospect to customer quickly, whereas brand-building is about attracting the prospect's attention and keeping it.
You might be holding yourself back from sustainable growth if you confuse sales activation tactics with brand building.
What is the right mix of those two types of strategies? How should you implement those ideas in your organization? And what are some commonalities between category-leading B2B organizations that are doing really well?

In this episode of Growth Marketers Podcast, we dive into the idea of marketing technology - the topic that generates a lot of buzz and confusion around it.
Marketers and entrepreneurs often leverage it as a crutch. They either try to conform their marketing strategies to their technology or become so enamored with the latest tech stack that they sacrifice their results for it.
However, by investing heavily into a tool or technology without really looking into the right marketing strategy for your company, you're causing your business a lot of trouble.
The point we want to get across in today's podcast is that marketing technology is not a strategy, it’s a tool. You need a strategy in place so you can make the most of this tool.
What are some common misconceptions about mark tech? How can marketing and business leaders be more informed about their tech stack? And what role does it play in overall marketing strategy?

There’s a lot of misunderstanding and confusion around social media, especially in the B2B space. What platform is right for you, how to leverage it properly… All sorts of gurus are spreading different messages on this topic, so we wanted to get in the weeds and help other marketers to best look at social media as part of their marketing mix.
One thing that we get asked all the time is which social media channel is best. And we think it’s a somewhat flawed question. Whenever someone is looking for one solution for a lot of different problems – that’s not the way to go.
In this episode of Growth Marketers Podcast, we want to demystify some misconceptions and explain how we think social media should be used and leveraged.
We discuss the factors to consider when choosing a social media platform, how to measure success, and more.

We all know that success doesn’t happen overnight, and obviously, you can’t build a big brand like Google or McDonald's after one campaign. However, we as marketers tend to fall victim to shiny objects syndrome.
We like to try anything new, we love adding advanced techniques to our campaigns, but in our endless quest for the magic pill that will take our businesses through the roof, we tend to overlook the basics.
Regardless of the size of your business, you need to understand the fundamentals of marketing, take a step back, and consider what goals you're trying to achieve here and how you're going to achieve them.
In this episode, we revisit a few things digital marketers should remember. We talk about three of the most common mistakes that we see business owners make and ways to avoid them.

There’s a lot of conversations about what channel works best when it comes to attracting new customers. And without a doubt, word of mouth is by far the most effective way to reach customers and get people to buy. That said, it’s also one of the most unpredictable channels and you can’t really do anything to measure it.
In this episode of Growth Marketers Podcast, we want to get a little bit into this topic and talk about dark social specifically.
The term "dark social" refers to "invisible" sharing that takes place within messenger apps, but also through email and text messages. For example, if you visit the website of any company right now, pick a link, and share the URL with a friend through Snapchat or Facebook Messenger, you have shared it through dark social.
Even though you didn't type the entire URL into your browser, the share will still appear as "direct" for the company. Since they won't know where the link is coming from, dark social can be a source of referral traffic that is attributed to the wrong channel.
So how to amplify the word of mouth in the context of dark social and have better control of measuring whether it’s actually working?

Did you ever catch yourself thinking that it’s extremely difficult to get in front of a technical audience? When it comes to anything a little bit more technical by nature, marketers tend to lose all hope due to a bunch of reasons.
People might say that it’s hard to market to this audience because of XYZ, but these are not the roadblocks that won’t let you market. These are the characteristics that make up their buyer persona. Understanding those characteristics should be the basis of your marketing rather than the excuse why you can’t reach them.
So if your audience consists of engineers, architects, or manufacturers, this podcast is for you. We talk about some myths and ways to overcome that as marketers in order to get in front of that audience.
Enjoy!

In this episode of Growth Marketers Podcast, we are talking about the missing piece in most B2B marketing strategies, which is the creative element of an ad campaign.
We see a lot of companies shifting their ad spend towards digital – digital marketing, digital ads, demand generation, inbound marketing – however you want to look at it, whereas the traditional marketing part of it is gone by the wayside. They are spending tons of money on data but not much thought goes into the real reason why these ads are supposed to work.
At the end of the day, the most important part of every ad is whether or not someone is going to stop once they see your ad. As marketers, we should not be forgetting about the creative side of the ads.
In today’s podcast, we dive into a couple of things you may not be considering in your marketing efforts and talk about the key ingredient in the B2B ads, which is often overlooked.

As digital marketers, we see lots of companies that are focused on the bottom of the funnel. For some reason, brand building isn’t a part of the marketing plan in many B2B organizations, but we believe it should be.
If you think about it, some of the largest brands really take their time to establish a strong brand and get people to like them and trust them way before they become their customers. They are working hard to build brand affinity - an emotional connection between a brand and its customers. It’s a combination of brand awareness, credibility, customer loyalty, and creating distinction around your brand that makes you more preferable over the competition.
In this episode of Growth Marketers Podcast, we talk about what brand affinity means and how you can build it as a B2B company. We also give some actionable tips on what you can do as an organization to build that brand affinity in your area and your particular niche.
So tune in for the podcast and send in more digital marketing questions. We’re always happy to help you out.

Five years ago, webinar marketing was the best trick from the playbook. Everybody was doing it for getting leads. And we still see webinar funnels now, but B2B marketers tend to have mixed feelings about it. Some people love webinars, others hate them. Why is there such a difference in opinions?
One reason is that putting together a webinar is a lot of work and not everyone is eager to do it. There’s also a fear that they might spend a lot of time on preparation and nobody shows up. Plus, from a marketing standpoint, it can seem like an outdated method of lead generation.
However, those who are really opposed to making webinars underestimate the other side of it. There are multiple benefits you might not even think about - opportunities you can easily miss. For example, you can have 8 one-to-one calls a day or get 40 people to show up to your presentation in one hour. What’s more efficient?
In today’s episode of Growth Marketers Podcast, we’ve talked about the idea of running a webinar specifically for B2B. We share a lot of insights and good strategies that we implement ourselves and use for our clients. We also talk about the thought process you should have when creating the webinar so that it’s not salesy, robotic, or boring.

Today’s world dictates new rules. And as much as they’d like to stick to traditional marketing, many B2B companies are forced to tap into digital. The problem is, however, that they expect immediate results. But when it comes to digital marketing, this is not the best way to look at it.
In marketing in general it’s never a question of whether something will work. It’s a matter of how we can make it work. And oftentimes, performance tracking and micro KPIs are more important than immediate ROI and macro KPIs.
In today’s episode of Growth Marketers Podcast, we dive a little bit deeper into measuring the effectiveness of our marketing efforts - what it really takes to see results in digital marketing and whether or not this is the right question to ask. We will define efficacy vs efficiency and talk about what it means for us as marketers.
Hopefully, you will enjoy it.

A lot of our clients that are starting a new line of business or breaking into a new industry want to know how to generate demand for new products or services. And there’s generally been a lot of talk around demand generation lately.
One of the best ways to do it is through the process that we call building thought leadership. It’s essentially positioning yourself, your brand, or your company as an industry expert and opinion leader.
In this episode of the Growth Marketers podcast, we want to break down that topic and talk about different ways to generate demand or build a brand. Important note: we're talking specifically about demand generation, not lead generation.
So hopefully, you’ll find some actionable insights into building a true brand and creating thought leadership in your industry.

Many companies treat their marketing like a salad bowl – a little bit of this, a little bit of that. But when they try to combine everything, it’s really not effective. The results turn out to be mediocre at best. And they kind of see it but they believe in this concept that something is better than nothing - a good old cliché we keep hearing everywhere. In marketing, however, such a mindset can be a mistake.
Why? Well, marketing is not a linear path, and you can look at every channel to find proof. Say, if you do one-tenth of an SEO that your competitors are doing, you aren’t going to get one-tenth of the traffic. Most likely, you’ll get nothing.
This idea that something is better than nothing makes sense in a lot of aspects of life, but not in marketing. In this episode, we are discussing various real-life scenarios we’ve seen in digital marketing over the years that illustrate how exactly doing something for the sake of it does not play out the right way. Enjoy!

Today on Growth Marketers podcast, we are talking about the marketing technology landscape. As marketers, we’re used to measuring everything, from impressions to clicks to conversions. But did you ever wonder whether you have too much technology? Today, we dive into our obsession as marketers with tracking, attribution, and other technology and explaining why it is actually hurting us.
Because of this idea that everything in digital marketing is so visible and trackable, it’s very easy to allow your technology to drive your marketing strategy, not the other way round. But if you let that happen, you’re going to limit yourself to whatever the capabilities of that software you currently have.
Heavy reliance on available tools makes us throw out some of our fundamental values of marketing, including everything we’ve learned about what it means to be a marketer and what the actual role of marketing is. At the end of the day, having too much technology hinders our ability to market properly.
What we talk about today is what we believe in as marketers and what we’ve seen be effective. And a lot of it has to do with forgetting that doing too much tracking and too much attribution can also be a problem.

They also explain why you shouldn’t overemphasize the importance of the lead flow without understanding how that translates to the objectives of the business, and more!

We often talk to business owners and entrepreneurs, and the questions they usually ask are revolving around “how to get traffic to your website fast”. While it's perfectly understandable why people ask these questions, what we’ve found over the years is that traffic is not always the problem.
There's never too much attention when it comes to marketing, so even the companies that already have a decent amount of traffic often want more. However, many other variables impact whether or not your website is effective.
Every organization has its definition of what is “effective” and what is “successful”, but most businesses would agree that they are living to drive revenue. And that comes down to quality traffic and how it's going to interact with your website.
So what we mean by saying that “traffic is not your problem” is exactly that. Traffic generation is not the only job of marketing. Having more traffic for the sake of driving traffic is not going to solve anything. You have to get to the very beginning of how this traffic is finding your website. In this episode, we dive deeper into the idea of why traffic may not be your biggest issue when it comes to improving the performance of the website.
Hope it helps! Tune in!

We’re always planning for our own marketing, but we’re also building a lot of strategies and plans for our clients. Right now is the time of the year when most companies build out their marketing plans and strategies, and it’s typically done only on an annual basis. Or it may be the time when they first engage with an outside marketing partner. So in this podcast, we’re going to talk about how do you go about developing a plan? What is our methodology behind building long- and short-term plans? And what is a continuous planning process?

In today’s podcast, we dive into something we are both passionate about. It’s the idea that progress is more important than perfection and that perfection is actually the enemy of progress. And it’s especially applicable to marketing because waiting until something is perfect may result in doing nothing at all. Why do we think that this idea makes a lot of sense for every marketer? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both sides?

What we’re going to talk about in this episode is somewhat controversial because we are a marketing agency ourselves and we also write a lot of content for our clients. However, we believe that you probably shouldn’t use someone else’s help to do it. There’s a lot of things about your marketing campaign and marketing strategy that you can outsource, but creating great content requires the expertise and product knowledge only you have. Besides, average content brings average results, and average is what you are most likely to get with content outsourcing. In this podcast, we dive into why you shouldn’t outsource your content and how to manage content creation internally.

In today’s episode, we dive into the idea that’s called “the 3% rule.” As business owners and salespeople, we all know how to answer someone’s questions and how to facilitate the sales process if someone is in the market and asking you about your product or service. These are typically 3% of people that are actively pursuing the solution. But what about the other 97%? Should we market to them? How do we get in front of them? And can we address all of them, or maybe some people aren’t a good fit for your solution?

Do you get frustrated when you get a lot of bad quality leads? Most business owners are quick to write off inbound leads as poor quality as compared to other leads. In this episode, Solomon and Taylor talk about the quality of inbound leads. They offer suggestions on how to address this issue of poor leads. How can we improve the quality of leads from a strategic and tactical point of view? First, we need to understand a good lead vs. a bad lead. As it is a different process, the sales team must understand the correct method to manage and facilitate these leads.
As a marketer, are you reactive or proactive? In this episode, Solomon and Taylor explore the idea of being proactive vs. reactive, specifically when it comes to marketing strategy or marketing plan.
Most marketers deal with this as an outside marketing strategy. When an organization or somebody in the organization is at risk, most marketers think that they must always be reactive, putting out fires. This mindset must change.
Solomon and Taylor dive into some use cases and scenarios on how to be a more proactive marketer than a reactive one.
Highlights
03:36 – 03:42-Taylor – “There are lots of organizations that maybe unknowingly are reactive in the same capacity.”
04:53 -05:06 -
Taylor- “The shift to have a more proactive strategy…and change that so you have a plan in place, and you’re moving along in having some benchmarks along the way.”
06:13-06:27-Solomon – “There are just no resources put aside to think and plan and strategize; therefore, they end up being in a position of having to be reactive when there have nothing else that they could be doing.”
08:14-8:24- Taylor- “You do need to be flexible; you need to be agile; you need to be able to adapt to whatever the situation is. But you should have some scenarios played out.”
12:35 –12:39- Taylor - “You have to have some discipline to stick to the plan, and the only way to do that if you have a plan in the first place.”
12:40 – 12:48- Solomon – “Even though we don’t know what’s going to happen five years from now. We certainly can plan on how much money we like to be making in five years. So, we can work backward.”
16:31 -16:46 - Taylor – “The more proactive you are, then inherently the less reactive you have to be… The more reactive you are, it just compiles. All of a sudden, you are putting down fires all over the place.”
18:40– 18:47 -Taylor - “The whole reason that you are going to get that pressure and all of a sudden you become reactive is because we are looking at maybe the wrong metrics.”
19:01 -19:12- Taylor- “We need to have a bigger pipeline and multiple channels of lead and multiple sources of bringing in revenue, that going to relieve a lot of external pressure and the stress.”
20:00 –20:09- Taylor- “The proactive strategy would be how do we actually build the bigger brand so that we are getting more of those leads and not only are people just searching for a solution and finding us, but they are actually searching for our brand name.”
20:11 - Taylor- “We need to build a brand presence, and we are going to do that by continuously providing value to our audience, to our potential customers and help them see that using our solution, partnering with our company is going to be better for them.”
Key takeaways
For a business to be proactive, planning is critical. A proactive strategy includes building a brand presence and providing information to the target customer that using the business’s solution will be good for them. Also, provide value that is unrelated to the business’s services. Buy-in from the leadership will give the freedom to execute the plans. If the business focuses only on generating leads, it will get stuck in a reactive mindset.

As a B2B marketer, how many touches does it take to convert a lead or a customer? From a marketing standpoint, how many interactions do we need to have with potential customers before they would become a customer?
We get these types of questions a lot, and in this episode of Growth Marketers Podcast, Solomon and Taylor sit down to dive deeper into the subject. We hope you might find some useful tips in there, enjoy!
Highlights
3:10- 3:20 - Taylor- “Just because it is possible that someone sits down, goes to google, performs a search, clicks on an ad, makes the purchase. That is an exception not, the rule.”
4:47 – 5:01 - Taylor- “What we have seen is that it can take eight to ten to upwards, depending on the complexity of the sale, fifteen touches for you to really be remembered, be recognized, warm someone up and then educate them…”
5:46 – 5:55 -Taylor – “It is always a better idea to have more interactions, as long as those interactions are value-packed and value-filled interactions,”
5:56 – 6:04 - Taylor – “What you don’t want to do is just look at the metrics and dictate your strategy based on the data alone.”
8:24 –8:32 -Taylor - “Map that entire journey (customer’s journey) out, identify what those triggers are, what those points are where you can provide value “
8:44 – 9:03 - Taylor – “Anything that is valuable to your audience from the top of the funnel, all the way to the bottom of the funnel, build out marketing collateral for each one of those to provide value and then look at the channels and the devices that your prospects or your customers can be on, and that’s where you start touching them”
9:53 –10:03 - Solomon – “You shouldn’t care, how many touches it is going to take, you are not trying to make it into a scientific equation, that twelve and a half (touches) equals a deal. “
10:22 –10:27- Solomon- “You are helping somebody figure it out, and some people need more help than others.”
10:33 – 10:37 - Taylor – “The more touches do not necessarily mean more time, sometimes it means actually the opposite.”
16:26 – 16:36 -Solomon- “I think there is no right answer to the question how many.it is how many things can you actually create to add value to somebody who is actually looking forward to your products and solutions.”
Key takeaways
It is better to create as many touchpoints as possible and segment it to different types of audiences. So, if you serve three different industries, make sure that they do not see the same ads. Depending on the location, they should see different things.
Think about providing more touches that offer more value than showing off something that is not useful to the end customer. With this mindset, you will move in the right direction.

In this episode, Solomon and Taylor talk about content marketing and strategies that they implement to increase the content’s visibility. Both Taylor and Solomon agree that one quality content, distributed across many platforms is better than a large amount of content distributed on one platform each. In this episode Solomon and Taylor into the concept of 'Personas.' What is Persona? And what are the challenges that marketers go through when marketing to multiple personas? If you are selling to multiple personas, how do you evaluate that and adapt marketing strategy to accomplish your goals? All these questions and more on this podcast.
Key Takeaways
When you build your marketing plan, the first step is to identify your marketing persona. After that, you start looking at your buyers’ journey. A lot of times organizations look at the buyer’s journey and then try to apply personas and try to match them. This is the wrong way to go about it. So, first, map out the different personas. Also re-evaluate the market and what your personas might care about from time to time.

They discuss the need to eliminate the funnel and focus on the flywheel. A funnel is a set of processes that a person goes through until he is a customer. There are sales funnels, marketing funnels, etc. Whereas, in a flywheel, everything revolves around the customer. Here, the customers are in the middle, and marketing, sales, and service around it.
