Anthony Antonio Antinori Hernandez:
My iconography and my technique have changed along with the mishaps that have happened in the world where I now live. The laws of my paintings have a story that is followed from phase to phase; like a chess game or like a
poem, they are executed with great science. At times my artwork is seen and spoken with irrepresentable icons; it’s like if I was alone all by myself, it’s like if I was running an errant, it’s if I see and at the same time don’t see things, as if I was surrounded by large transparencies and layers.
We must understand that my function as an artist / painter is to make things been seen by the receptor. I try to be like an alarm that enjoys my paintings or that it enjoys knowing their aesthetics, but enjoys more the responsibility of a needed consciousness . In my paintings there is a kind of a dialogue or feedback between representing my feelings and emotions and portraying the other side of me as an artist / painter. I almost always try to present the form of things, and that form is just a moment of the history of those things. Like portraying a frozen world; meanwhile, in reality everything flows and be able to see that those things are transforming and living. As Human beings, we must give value to the differences and not to the similarities. The more diverse our expressions are portrayed, the more cultured a society becomes. Thus, to me art is the highest expression of freedom .

(timestamp below) Magali Delarosa is a Mexican-American singer-songwriter, actress and designer born in South Texas, who began her singing career at a young age inspired by her Tejano-Rock musician/producer father Carlos Delarosa and her favorite singer, Selena Quintanilla. At only 8 years old she was asked by Univision to sing a Selena Tribute, and her performing career took off from that
moment.
After graduating high school she moved to California to study fashion design and further her career as a performer. After acting in independent films and performing at venues such as: The House of Blues, The Key Club, and Cine El Rey, Magali caught the attention of Randy Jackson from American Idol. She was cast as part of a Latina girl group called “Brunette.” The group managed to put out agreat single, and during this time discovered her talent for songwriting. Magali was invited to collaborate with Armenian super star Karen Hakobyan. Through this opportunity, she was asked to star in his music video “Sirel Em” which has over 4 million views on YouTube. After the video was released Karen and Magali were asked to perform at The Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles to a sold out crowd of 7,000 people.
Magali has officially signed with Stega Management Marketing and officially starts her tour in March 2023. Delarosa officially dropped her full length album in April 2023. Her second release
off the album hit over 100k in the first week and is making a big splash with her third single Mujer Mexicana.
Magali also has a contract with an agency in Austin Texas which has landed her several commercials and print work. Magali wrapped up two movie projects recently both to be
streaming on major platforms. Her second single and music video “Muero Por Tu Amor” was also selected for The South Texas Film Festival and is currently competing. Magali plans to release a Latin Hip Hop track at the beginning of next year called “Without You” Quien Soy Yo. Her music can be found and purchased under her artist name Magali Delarosa.

Hello my name is Carlos J. Cuadros and welcome to my podcast - Cuadros Corner. In this episode I talked to RGV photographer, Nora Isabel - who specializes in candid & nostalgic vibes.
📸 Her BIO is as follows:
📸
"I’ve always been artistic. Growing up - I was very interested in and often participated in art programs, which even lead me to pursue a minor in Fine Art at UTRGV. This background has significantly influenced my approach to photography. I first picked up a camera at the age of 17, and I worked for my mom - as a wedding/quinceañera photographer at he event center in Harlingen, TX.
I was very, very green - but just so grateful to gain experience and practice with a new artistic medium. This job helped me pay for my education and complete my degree at UTRGV - a BA in Communication Studies.
Some time before graduating, however, I met my husband and we were married and expecting our first baby boy. I delivered him about a month after completing my courses! THIS was my dream true. Never in my life, did I aspire for a certain career path. Since I can remember, my dream in life was to become a mom. My passion for the arts was just fun - where God blessed me with a natural talent… and of course, my education was very important to me - but not so that I could pursue a career or salary. If anything, I think I chose COMM because I knew that if and when I pursued a career - I would land in an entrepreneurial situation.
Watching my mother own and operate business my whole life (that we’re often creative and passion driven) - How could I pursue a similar dynamic for my own life? Right! So, I was a stay at home mom with my baby boy for a year and a half and I really did not even want (nor did I foresee wanting to) to pursue a career until my second pregnancy with my daughter - this is when I had my AHA moment…
We were on a family trip to visit my husbands family in Guanajuato, Guanajuato. I brought my camera with me, to document his family members and their lifestyle on the ranch. I was just so genuinely excited to capture these people that I was blessed to now call my family through marriage. At one point in the trip, some family members were asking me about my journey as a photographer - and as they saw me light up and explain how much I enjoy it and how much I love photographing people… one of them stopped me, and simply asked, “so then why did you stop doing it?”
From that moment, I haven’t put my camera down! I started my business, six months pregnant!"
🙏

Karol Rodriguez, a native to Weslaco, Texas - is a painter and multimedia artist. Karol's heart has always been divided - being born in the United States but raised in Mexico. Karol's first steps were not on American soil but on Mexican land. He considers this duality an integral part of his heritage.
As karol adapted to life in the United States, he developed a special warmth for The Rio Grande Valley and vividly recalls always having a passion for painting. Gaby Rico is a magnificent mixed media artist. She often uses bright color, depicts nature, stars and self portraits - which raise a sense of emotion, belonging and self exploration. ⭐️
Her bio is as follows:
🎙️
Gaby Rico was born on January 2nd of 1979 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She now lives in Edinburg, Texas, USA. Rico is a self taught artist who began painting in 2006. Rico has exhibited art work in multiple cities across the Rio Grande Valley, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Italy, Spain, Denmark and many others.
🎨
The manner in which she tends to execute her paintings can be described within an array found between Abstract and Expressionism, despite the admittance of transcending the established rules. Gaby Rico often intends to provoke visual pleasure no-boundaries in her work. Rico loves mixed technique approaches because of the sense of absolute freedom while creating art, and the endless richness from materials and perceptions that result in nourishing the eyes and the soul.
🎨
“I love creating, when I paint, I forget who I am and it is not about me, it is about being what I feel. It is about naturally flowing with the endless universe.”

Elizet Villarreal started going to the gym at 17 years old as senior in high school. She fell in love with the weights and how it could transform her body. When she was 21 a lady approached her at the gym and asked she'd train her. She said yes and got certified and her clientele grew and grew. She absolutely loved every aspect of personal training. In this episode of Cuadros Corner I talked to local model, artist, mom and realtor, Jennifer Poppy who recently moved to the Rio Grande Valley from Hawaii about 3 years ago. She has been involved not only in helping families find their dream homes but has been a constant participant in the art scene. I would like to preface that this episode was recorded in mid July 2023 before the unfortunate fires that affected many people in Maui, Hawaii.
.
.
Jennifer's bio is as follows:
.
.
"Jennifer Poppy is a Native Texan, with family roots that go back here 200 years. While she loves the Lone Star State, she also has a heart of adventure and in 2012 moved to Maui, Hawaii. Making that move taught her many things, including how to live more simply, stay connected with nature and the independence of living on the most remote island chain in the world.
.
Jennifer moved to the valley in 2021, along with her three children. Since moving to McAllen, she’s met many creatives, artists and entrepreneurs. She’s a real estate agent as well as an artist and model. She’s passionate about connecting with people & building strong ties in her community through her work and life."

In this episode of Cuadros Corner #27 I was able to sit down with a Rio Grande Valley artist who passionately loves art. He spoke to me about how the strokes from his brush is therapeutic as he slides his colorful wet paint on the canvas; truly expressing his inner most feelings.
.
.
.
His bio is as follows:
.
.
"Born in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley (Weslaco, Texas), Jason Ray Perez is a self-taught, South Texas, mixed media and pyrography artist. His artistic styles range from modern/neo contemporary expressionism to street art, to traditional Mexican pyrography folk art.
.
.
Perez initially made his introductory public appearance as an independent artist in 2009, by curating and promoting his first solo exhibit titled "Only in Dreams". Since then, Perez has remained an active supporter of the South Texas art scene, he has participated in numerous group exhibits internationally, nationally and throughout the state of Texas; including, three gallery level solo art exhibits titled "Alas De Mis Angeles" (2011), "Illicit Visions" (2013) and "LACONISM" (2016).
.
.
In 2017 several of Perez' artworks were recognized by District 40, state of Texas Representative Terry Canales, and are currently exhibited in The Texas State Capitol in Austin, Texas. In 2023 one of Perez' paintings titled "Shinaai" (brothers), a memorial homage to his late best friend Max Moreno (lead singer of Costello), was inducted to one of the oldest and largest Native American museums in the United States, the American Indian Center in Chicago, Illinois, for permanent display.
.
.
Perez has been dubbed "The Patron Saint of Valley Art", has curated countless exhibits for many reputable visual artists and is a major socialite amongst the RGV's thriving art and entertainment scene. Perez continues to create art, he is the founder of the McAllen Art Crawl, former co-founder and former curator of the Phoenix Art Gallery and is the art director for several establishments located in McAllen's Art District where he both exhibits his art works and hosts art exhibits for local and visiting artists."

I make both solo and collaborative performances that often address a social political issue. My work is informed by my own spiritual agency. Through ceremony; critical race analysis; queer theory; the social/politics of the body. I am interested in creating cultural work that is directly influenced by set & setting and aimed towards community building."

In this episode I talk to Artisan, Tania Viveros, who is also a teacher (both High School & College) a mom, a wife and a prominent figure in the Rio Grande Valley community.
.
.
Her bio is as follows:
.
.
I was born on December 24, 1988 in Reynosa Tamaulipas Mexico, and raised in The Rio
Grande Valley. I received my bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and Design in The University of
Texas Pan American and my master’s degree in Studio Art from The University of the Rio
Grande Valley. As an Artist my work has been exposed in various art fairs, which have enabled
me to inform and expose to the community of The Rio Grande Valley the richness of art in
jewelry metal smith, found objects, and sculpture’s using palm tree leaves. My art pieces have
been shown at, The Upper Valley Art League in Mission Texas, Hands in Art Studio in Mission
Texas, The Charles and Dorothy Clark Art Gallery in Edinburg Texas, Movement Gallery in San
Antonio Texas; an installation titled Archival Evolution in The UTPA Library, just to name a
few.
.
.
My current work is wrapped around the idea of taking debris and recreating art in an
abstract form. I take palm tree leaves, seeds, branches, tree trunks, corn leaves, and many organic
materials that focus on texture and form. By connecting each object to other forms, I depict the
Passionate Flower. These flowers are created and recreated in various forms of art each piece
contrasts some are more obvious than others, but in the end, everything created correlates to the
context of passion.

In this episode,I interview none other than my good compa Edgar Salinas; and it also happens to be my first ever Spanish episode ever.
🚛
Edgar Salinas has followed his family's footsteps by becoming a trucker for BALSA Transport LLC in Edcouch, TX. Nevertheless, his plan wasn't always to join the family business. He spent his early 20's working in the refineries of Louisiana and at a Pawn shop. It wasn't until his father convinced him of the great opportunities that laid ahead of him. Now as a father of 4 kids and one more on the way, I sat down with Edgar to catch up with him about the trucker life, working with family and having a family.

In this episode I talk to Cindy Gomez-Paslak, also known as DJ Starrfox
.
.
She was born and raised in East Los Angeles, California and moved to the RGV when she was 20 years old. Since then, she's been a long time resident of Mission, Texas. Cindy became a teenage mother at the age of 16. She's a proud mother of two boys Julian (31) and Sean (19). She graduated from The University of Texas Pan American (now known as UTRGV) in 2011 with a Bachelors degree in business administration.
.
.
By day she's an accountant. By night, she's DJ Starrfox. You can catch her spinning all your favorite vinyl's in local spots around McAllen & The RGV. Cindy started to collect vinyl records at the age of 13. The first two records she purchased were Hombres G (a spanish Rock Band) and Mecano (a Spanish Pop Band). She still has those two records in her collection.
.
.
Her vinyl collection consists of over 600 records and includes a wide variety of genres to soothe even the most exacting ears. Listening to her set will have you taking a stroll down memory lane and/or fist pumping to the latest beats.
.
.
Cindy credits music for allowing her to maintain a positive attitude throughout her life span. Now at the age of 49, she strongly believes you should always follow your dreams regardless of age or circumstance.
.
.
This is exactly the take away message she would like to share with everyone - especially young teenage mothers. Her love for music, coupled with her people-skills, have finally allowed her to reach her dream of becoming a vinyl DJ.

In this episode I talk to David Potwin, who is a conceptual artist from Dallas, TX..David is the oldest of 3 children. He first put brush to canvas at 8 years old..He shares the following statement: "I'm quite content to be a painter of pictures. For me, painting is a synthesis that considers the myriad aspects of human awareness expressed in visual form. It melds together philosophy, physics, sociology, emotion, mysticism and eroticism with craftsmanship. I like to tweak the colors to tease the eye with a sense of light and expressed energy. I consider my work conceptual realism." ...Thank you David for coming to the podcast for a 2nd time!..David's Website:https://www.henrydavidpotwin.com/..Thank you to Yvette from Backdoor Modern Vintage for joining us on the show. A podcast about women who are leaders in their community and who Natalie hopes to spread their stories for inspiration. Season 3 of Mujeres in the know will be out on June 4th and you can listen on spotify, apple podcasts or any of your favorite podcasting app. In today's episode I spoke with Natalie about some of the things she normally doesn't talk about in her podcast; her divorce. A touchy subject in the eyes of many but something that she had the courage to talk about today.
