Sarah Engels, Germany's Eurovision 2026 singer, joined us for an on-stage interview in English during the Eurofan House x Wiwibloggs event in Vienna. The "Fire" hitmakers discusses how much international support has meant to her...particularly in the face of fierce criticism in Germany. Speaking to our William Lee Adams, she talks about the main changes in her stage show, how family grounds her, the lessons she has learned as a reality star and tabloid favourite, and how she identifies with Satine in Moulin Rouge — a character she's portraying on theatre stages in Germany. She also has a bit of fun with her English, and turns to the many Germans in the audience to translate.

Austria's Cosmó — real name Benjamin Gedeon — joined us for an on-stage interview during our Eurofan House x Wiwibloggs event inside the Wien Museum. The 18-year-old explains how he wrote his song "TANZSCHEIN," his Austrian and Hungarian cultural background, what it's like having Eurovision in Vienna, his growth since the national final "Vienna Calling – Wer singt für Österreich?" and so much more.

LELEK — Croatia's Eurovision 2026 act — joined us for an on-stage interview at our Eurofan House x Wiwibloggs interview series in Vienna. The band, formed in 2024, consists of members Inka Večerina Perušić, Judita Štorga, Korina Olivia Rogić, Lara Brtan, and Marina Ramljak. They discuss their song "Andromeda" and its powerful message, which relates to the subjugation of women in the Balkans. They also detail their tattoos, which women wore to escape slavery. How did the group form? Who is the most emotional? And what's it been like meeting their Eurovision idols? We find out all of this and more.

The afternoon after Moldova qualified from Semi-Final 1 of Eurovision 2026, Satoshi joined us for an on-stage interview at the Eurofan House x Wiwibloggs. Satoshi discusses how he loved feeling the live energy on stage and why he chose the shaky camera movements. Aliona Moon tells us the back story of bringing her Eurovision 2013 dress back for this performance — and where she's stored it all of these years. And Lana tells us what it's like being such an incredible dancer and hype girl while also singing.

Greece's Eurovision 2026 singer Akylas joins us for an on-stage interview at the Eurofan House x Wiwibloggs event inside the Wien Museum in Vienna. The "Ferto" singer attended the afternoon after qualifying from Semi-Final 1. He was so excited that he had advanced that he pulled a back muscle and woke up in severe pain. But he persevered, coming to our event to discuss being a favourite to win, his symbolic staging, his former life working in hospitality and performing on cruise ships, his mother's sacrifices, and how his song reflects the deprivation endured by a generation.

According to Dagospia, the Sanremo Festival 2027 may replace covers night with a special Eurovision night to decide Italy’s Eurovision act.

As you’ll know, the fourth evening of Sanremo — the Friday — is traditionally known as Covers Night. The winner of the overall festival is determined on the fifth night — the Saturday — and given the right to go to Eurovision.

But record labels and FIMI (the Federation of the Italian Music Industry) reportedly want to separate winning the festival from going to Eurovision. Instead, they want two winners: A winner from Eurovision night who goes to Eurovision, and an overall winner of the festival. The goal is to give artists two chances at victory, thereby enticing more well-established acts to compete.

Dagospia also reports that there is pressure to create an “Academy” that would judge the competition. Doing this would reduce the number of journalists and experts who currently help decide the outcome. We react to the news and discuss.

The Sanremo 2027 dates have been confirmed as February 16 to February 20.

Veronica Fusaro, Switzerland's Eurovision 2026 singer, gave an on-stage interview to our William Lee Adams during the Eurofan House x Wiwibloggs event inside the Wien Museum in Vienna. The "Alice" singer discusses her background as a classic guitarist and how she moved on to the electronic guitar and ultimately rock. She also explains the songwriting process behind "Alice," which shines a light on gender-based violence. Staging a song with such a serious message is incredibly difficult. She explains the thought and care that went into it and discusses what we saw during her first rehearsal at Eurovision.

Finland's Eurovision 2025 singer Erika Vikman joined our William Lee Adams for an on-stage interview at the Eurofan House x Wiwibloggs in Vienna. The "ICH KOMME" singer discussed her recent music — including "Appetite" (a collab with Go-Jo), "Father (I Will Never Confess)" and "Adam & Steve." Among other things, she discusses why she relates to the gay community (she too has been judged unfairly, she says) and the results of Eurovision 2025. If Finland ever hosts Eurovision does she plan to play a role? We find out.

Antigoni — Cyprus' Eurovision 2026 singer — speaks with our William Lee Adams at the Eurofan House x Wiwibloggs interview series in Vienna. The "JALLA!" hitmakers unpacks her journey from a child with a distinct, smoky voice to the confident woman turning heads and winning hearts at Eurovision. She keeps it real: Antigoni spent many years messaging the Cypriot broadcaster CyBC about Eurovision before they finally acknowledged her. Family has been central to her journey. She tells us about her extended family in Cyprus — and we even get to sing happy birthday to her mother — the celebrated TV chef Tonia Buxton.

Satoshi — real name Vlad Sabajuc — has won Moldova's Selecția Națională 2026 and is headed to Eurovision. Cyprus’ Eurovision 2026 queen Antigoni joins us for her first interview since being confirmed as the island’s representative — and she’s bringing pride, passion and pure dance-floor energy. 🇨🇾✨

The former Love Island star tells us she wants to create a feel-good, movement-making song for Vienna. She also responds directly to criticism about not being “Cypriot enough,” opening up about her deep family roots. Among other things, her grandmother was born in Cyprus, she speaks Greek and her mother Tonia Buxton hosted My Cypriot Kitchen.

“I am Cypriot. If you watched me on Love Island, the first thing I said was: ‘I’m Antigoni, I’m Greek-Cypriot and I’m a singer.’ That is who I am in essence. I carry my Cyprus flag in my heart and everywhere with me.”

Justyna Steczkowska — one of Poland's most loved singers — has returned to the Eurovision Song Contest thirty years after her first appearance. She tells our William Lee Adams about how she has grown and evolved musically and spiritually since finishing 18th. Some of this growth was prompted by personal traumas, including the loss of her parents and her husband's illness. Mello 2025 singer Greczula (real name Kristofer Greczula) says that the planet Saturn features in his song Believe Me — and may appear in his staging. He co-wrote the song with Amanda Nordelius and John Russel. Greczula is in Heat 3 in Västerås on 15 February.

Disqualified Eurovision 2024 act Joost Klein from The Netherlands will not face charged for a “backstage incident” that led to a police investigation in Sweden. That’s the news coming out of Malmö after senior prosecutor Fredrik Jonsson dropped the case.

We’re just hours away from crowning the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. But one of the more controversial acts in its home country is not a firebrand pop princess but a middle aged couple singing under the moniker 'Nebulossa'. Their electro-pop anthem 'Zorra' has caused a stir in Spain as it attempts to reclaim the word ‘Vixen,’ often used as a slur to mean something like ‘bitch’ or ‘slut.’ "'Zorra' is partly autobiographical; it reflects women’s experiences of feeling marginalized and underestimated. Nebulossa’s María "Mery" Bas told Wiwibloggs, 'We decided to craft this song as a form of therapy.'

The use of the word though (47 times throughout the 3-minute song), has even divided Spain’s feminist movement, with some arguing it’s a powerful reclamation of the word, while others say it's derogatory.

'The problem is that this song is going to represent the country, and it's going to say, Europe, hey, guys came to Spain because there is plenty of sex. And this sex is related to prostitution, wherein many women are being exploited,' Eva Neila Ausín of Spain’s Feminist Movement of Madrid Group explained to the What Really Happened podcast. The Feminist Movement of Madrid caused controversy in Spain following a public row with Spain's main feminist movement, the 8M Commission, over its support for trans rights legislation.

With regards to Zorra, the debate has become so intense that even Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez weighed in. 'It seems to me that feminism is not only fair but also fun; this type of provocation necessarily has to come from culture,' he told Spain’s La Sexta.

It hasn’t fazed the band much. ‘The criticism has been minimal compared to the overwhelming positive reception we’ve received. Nebulossa’s Mark Dasousa told us.

It’s been one year since Luke Black announced himself to Serbia and won Pesma za Evroviziju. His iconic ‘Hello’ could rival Adele or Lionel Richie but it wasn’t always plain sailing for the Eurovision 2023 artist. After winning Serbia’s national selection Luke faced a huge backlash from Serbian celebrities who branded him everything from the devil incarnate to not being "Serbian enough."

"He had no filter in a very charming sort of way," says Matti Myllyaho, the show’s producer, when asked about their first meeting. "He walked in basically shirtless underneath his jacket. It’s been twenty years since Ukraine joined the Eurovision Song Contest. Today they're known as one of the most successful countries in the contest with three wins and a 100% qualification record.

But two decades ago it was a different story. In this episode we chart their course into the contest (with Oleksandr Ponomariov's "Hasta la Vista") and onto their first win (with Ruslana's "Wild Dances") just a year later.

Ahead of Eurovision 2003, a group of young and inexperienced Ukrainians convinced the broadcaster to join the contest. We hear from Vasyl Myroshnychenko, one of those early team members who is now Ukraine's ambassador to Australia. He recounts the broadcaster's many hurdles, which included major debts to the EBU. He also describes the strategic vision that helped Ruslana win Eurovision 2004.

We also hear from Philip Vella, the Maltese composer who wrote Ira Losco's "Seventh Wonder". He was drafted in to write Oleksandr Ponomariov's Eurovision 2003 song....only to have it replaced at the last minute. Philip gives us an exclusive listen of the song Ukraine had originally planned to send. He travelled with Ukraine's team to their debut contest anyway and recounts his experiences.

Eurovision 1998 winner Dana International has a lot to celebrate. 2023 marks the 25th anniversary of her Eurovision win in Birmingham. It also saw the debut of her reality series "Dana Kama," which ended its run on Yes TV on May 7. She tells our William Lee Adams about the difficulties of filming a reality series, recounts the difficult road to Eurovision (including backlash from Orthodox religious figures), shares her thoughts on her Eurovision 2011 song "Ding Dong" and more.

Before even landing at Eurovision in Birmingham, Israel’s Dana International had to stare down her critics: The Orthodox community at home wanted the transgender singer banned from the contest. Conservative politicians called her an abomination, but European viewers embraced her — naming her their winner in the first contest that mandated televoting.

To mark the 25th anniversary of her win, this episode looks at queerness on the Eurovision stage and how the contest reflects a radical shift in public attitudes toward LGBTQ+ people across Europe. Long before gay marriage was legalized and transgender rights were encoded in law anywhere on the continent, the contest was already celebrating marginalized voices.

“My victory proves God is on my side,” she said after her surprise win. “Try to accept me — I am what I am.”

Austria's Eurovision scout Eberhard Forcher discusses his approach to helping ORF choose its Eurovision artists. Eberhard takes us through the internal selection process for each of the ESC acts he has been involved in choosing in some capacity -- Zoe, Nathan Trent, Cesar Sampson, Paenda, and Vincent Bueno. There's also a lot of tea about choosing an act for Eurovision 2022. UPDATE: Since filming this earlier in November, Eberhard has told us that ORF is likely to make its decision by the end of January, and that the process is now down to just THREE acts. ORF 1 will install a new Programme Director from January 1, 2022, which makes the process slightly more complicated than in the past.

Life inside the Eurovision 2021 hotel in Rotterdam wasn't always easy. But Bulgaria's VICTORIA used the time to develop new music. One result is "THE WORST" -- her first new song release since the song contest.

VICTORIA says: "I will be honest. The months after Eurovision were challenging. However, 'The Worst' is an inspiring song that we created with Maya Nalani, Oliver Bjorkvall and Helena Larsson in Rotterdam. We were locked up in a hotel room for two weeks during the ESC and we devoted ourselves to creativity. The lyrics are about that voice in your head telling you that 'no one cares about you' and how you shouldn't lose yourself in it. I'm also working on my next record, which I will present very soon."

Why does the UK have such poor Eurovision results of late? Well the British press love to say that Europe hates us. The latest example? The Mail on Sunday claiming that BMG and other big labels are boycotting the BBC and refusing to send acts to Eurovision 2022 because of a perceived anti-British bias. While record labels may be nervous owing to a string of poor results, the notion of Europe disliking the UK and its artists is rather silly. We discuss.

Hurricane — Serbia's Eurovision 2021 singers — tell our Cinan that they came down with Post Eurovision Depression after Rotterdam. The Eurovision 2022 rules will allow pre-recorded backing vocals following a trial run in Rotterdam. Previously, the EBU said the inclusion of recorded backing vocals were to help the contest become more sustainable by reducing costs and allowing delegations to travel to the song contest with fewer people. Our interview with Italy's Måneskin is our first to reach one million views on YouTube. In honour of that, we're re-uploading the interview here on our podcast. We spoke with the Eurovision 2021 winners inside Rotterdam Ahoy following their second rehearsal, a week before the grand final. Among other things, bass guitarist Victoria De Angelis tells us that she doesn't feel like she faces any particular challenges as a woman in rock, partly because of the support she receives from band mates Damiano David, Thomas Raggi, and Ethan Torchio. They also discuss busking and the bullying they faced in high school.

Alban Ramosaj is a Dutch-Albanian singer, songwriter and model. And recently he was named winner of Kënga Magjike 2021 with the song "Thikat e mia". Alban, who traveled to Rotterdam to support Anxhela Peristeri, tells our Deban .Would he consider going to Eurovision? "I hope to be part of it! Absolutely! You get my energy: Hell yeah!" (Gjon's Tears was his favourite in 2021). Alban comes from quite the musical family. His sister Beatrix Ramosaj is known as the Albanian Rihanna.

Christer Björkman is known as the maestro of Sweden's Melodifestivalen and the driver of the country's success at the Eurovision Song Contest. But now, as he says goodbye to his formal role at Melfest, he's headed to Los Angeles to give life to the American Song Contest — a spin-off of ESC for the United States, which will be broadcast by NBC starting in 2022.

He caught up with our William Lee Adams the day after the European Broadcasting Union revealed that NBC had secured the formal rights in the USA.

Based on the world’s largest music event, the American Song Contest will feature live original musical performances, representing all 50 states, five US territories and the Nation’s capital. In the best Eurovision tradition, they will be competing to win the country’s vote for the Best Original Song. The live competition consists of three rounds as the acts compete in a series of Qualifying Rounds, followed by the Semi Finals and the ultimate Grand Final where one state or territory will emerge victorious. In addition to fan votes, a jury of music industry professionals will also lend their expertise to the competition.
