In today’s episode, we talk about how you can channel and correctly respond to frustration and anger and use them to be more productive. We explain how the creation of www.readmystrengths.com was an example of this from Eddie’s life. We break down how you can convert your anger into positive action by letting it show you where you need to adjust your beliefs or make changes. We share an important example of how to choose what you actually want, based on your strengths, instead of choosing what your anger wants in the moment.

Today, Eddie gives us his raw, authentic, early morning thoughts, just after rising. In this episode, we discuss the importance of a daily re-centering yourself on your strengths, and finding ways to act on them. This way, you develop certainty, beyond confidence, so you can achieve what you always wanted, for yourself and those around you. We emphasize that in order to do this, you have to stop letting others do for you what you need to do for yourself. That way, you can see the fruits of your efforts and take complete credit for them.

Today, we talk about an important concept: unless we recognize and apply our value, it is nothing more than potential value, and it does nothing to add value to the world. Eddie breaks down how you can recognize and apply your value, and shares personal experiences to illustrate. As part of this episode, we invite you to go to www.readmystrengths.com to submit your strengths report and go live with Eddie on Facebook every day (https://www.facebook.com/growwitheddie) to watch him break down yours and others’ strengths reports (keeping names anonymous). We also invite you to go to stregnthsevents.com to be a part of Eddie’s upcoming strengths workshop.

“So I want you to think about that for you: Are you running on the belief that you have potential value and that’s it, and it just sits there? Or are you using it for the benefit of you and others? And that means you have to get out and apply it.” (5:17)
In today’s episode, we talk about dealing with stubbornness and the things that keep us from growing. Eddie shares a lesson he learned from Dr. Bruce Lipton when watching the documentary, “The Abundance Factor.” We point out that those with belief and responsibility strengths high tend to struggle to bend, and that our core beliefs can sometimes be what keep us from making the changes we want to make. We therefore invite you to reflect and determine whether you know and believe in your own core values, and if they’re really good for you. If you find that they’re inhibiting you, have the courage to shift.

“If your beliefs really are at the core of your actions, and it’s your actions that are keeping you where you are -- whether you are overweight, or you don’t have a lot of money in the bank, or your marriage is failing, or your relationships with your family and kids is struggling, or your belief in yourself; maybe even your morality, your relationship with God -- maybe those things are struggling right now. Consider the fact that maybe your core beliefs are the issue.” 11:31

Today we give you an update on Eddie’s family’s situation. He explains that his family has been self-quarantining for the last 3 weeks, and that because it has brought his family closer together, he will miss it when it’s over. He asks you to consider how you’re using your time, and invites you to commit your top 13 strengths and your bottom 5 strengths to memory. This way, you can avoid making things worse by acting on disempowering thoughts, and instead turn every situation around and use your strengths to make things better.

Today, Eddie, as a dominant Influencer with 5 influencing strengths in his top 10, describes what he is doing to thrive in times like this. He first shares the importance of having measurable relationship goals in marriage. We explain how Influencers are passionate about helping people move forward. We offer advice for situations when chaos causes people to shut down, retreat into themselves, and halt in their progress. We suggest that you try to understand all of the different ways people move forward and help them get to where they want to go.

But, since you have 3 or more influencing strengths in your top 10, then this is a dominant desire for you. It’s how you get things done. It’s how you connect with people. It’s how you get creative and it’s how you move through the world; it’s how you create joy.” 10:00

We explain that if you have at least three strengths in your top 10 from a certain domain, that domain describes what motivates you on a fundamental level. In this episode, we give you an update on Eddie’s situation in the wake of the current COVID-19 pandemic, and what he and his family are doing to adjust. He shares that having a clear understanding of who you are at your core is what will help you most right now. We encourage you to look at your current circumstances as an opportunity to grow rather than a reason to panic. We remind you to stay in your own business rather than others’ or God’s business if you want to be happy. We invite you to remember what’s great about you, remember the difficult moments in your life, focusing on how you bounce back from each. In today’s episode, we start out by talking about the value of authenticity, and how you can get the things you’ve always wanted just by committing to be yourself. We talk about how many people have discovered this truth by going to Eddie’s workshops, and invite you to attend or schedule a workshop by going to strengthsevents.com. We share an example of how Eddie recently decided to back out of a good opportunity because of doubts, fear, or other excuses. We then share how he was able to push past those feelings for the next time he had an opportunity to take massive action.

Today’s topic is based on an analogy that Eddie has used to help those who are struggling to commit to their goals. Before explaining the analogy, we first invite you to identify those moments when it’s hardest for you to stick to your goals. During these moments, you are choosing to be on the edge of the spinning playground merry-go-round, where you are most likely to be hurt. You should instead make your way to where it’s safest in the center of this merry-go-round by finding ways to prepare yourself for these moments. To do this, we invite you to use your top 13 strengths to remind yourself of who you really are.

“You know at some point, I have to say to myself, ‘What the heck am I doing?’ And I want you to be able to look at yourself this way as well. Take a look at the things that you do that sabotage you. Look at the moments -- have you noticed that there’s a pattern? It seems to always happen around the same thoughts, the same times, the same places. Right? If you’re going to the same places that trigger you, you’re messing around with the merry-go-round.” 13:16

Today we update you on what Eddie has been able to achieve so far this year with his resolution to do everything fully authentically. This includes new workshops, conferences, programs, and a growing group. We then move on to talk about today’s topic, which is how to deal with the stress that surely will come with trying to live authentically. The best way to do this is to create space, which means using your strengths to develop habits and advance your skill set in a way that will allow you to grow with the pressure that comes with stress.

This episode is a follow-up of a previous episode called, “Everything Happens For You.” We summarize the concept of that episode, and explain that in order to understand today’s concept, you have to agree with what was explained there. We explain that you can take negative or hurtful experiences and help others by finding and sharing the lessons you “earned” from the experience. In other words, people can connect with you and be helped by insights you earn from your life by having sacrificed for them.

Today we hear Eddie’s wife, Angela, talk about the concept of taking control, in spite of the stresses and the pressures of life. She talks about what she’s been learning from listening to “Take Control of Your Life” by Mel Robbins. We talk about the science of fear and stress, picking up on its signs and causes, and finding healthy, long-lasting ways to cope. We talk about the dangers of “fake control”, and define trauma as anything that leaves a lasting impression of fear. We explain how Angela took control in her life in the context of her top strengths, such as “Arranger” and “Maximizer.” We then extend the special offer of a free 30 min strengths coaching session with Eddie to those who take the Clifton strengths assessment (go to gallup.com/access) on the day this episode is released. In today’s episode, Eddie shares an experience that taught him that everything that happens, happens for us, not to us. He also learned that our fear can be right, and so we shouldn’t hide from it or pretend it doesn’t exist. It can show us what matters most to us, and instead of thinking it’s telling us that we can’t do something, it’s actually telling us that we can do. We then invite you to learn your strengths so you can be who you are and benefit the world.

Today we share some experiences and lessons that have shaped Eddie’s desire to help others with his words. One of the most important of these lessons is that if you can get yourself to take a single step forward, you’re fully qualified to help move others forward. We share that we all suck at knowing what we are truly capable of. We share an exercise to help you understand this concept. We encourage you to take a look at the ways you sedate yourself to escape your fear, and determine to replace those things with activities that will help you to move yourself forward. We share with you a technique for setting and achieving goals and increasing your capacity using your strengths.

In today’s episode, we discuss getting others to listen to what we have to say in a way that is truly authentic to who we are and is valuable to the listener. We emphasize the truth that you are infinitely unique, so that if you have an opinion to share, you are the only one who can do it. We break the concept of showing others the value of what you have to say into 3 parts : First, see the value in listening to yourself. The best way to do this is to really understand your strengths. Second, see the value in listening to them. Third, they will inevitably want to listen to what you have to say because you have demonstrated the value that both you and they have.

And it’s not because my opinions are the only ones that matter, but my opinions can only be created by me. Which means that if I’ve got something to say, then it’s going to be of value to you because no one else can say it.” 5:42
Today, we explore the concept of turning fears into skills using the talents and strengths that have been given to you. We start by emphasizing the importance of living authentically so that you can bring value to others in a way that makes you happy. We invite you to consider scheduling or attending a workshop. Public workshops are in the process of being scheduled and more information will soon be available on a new website. We talk about the importance of recognizing that any success can be achieved authentically. We invite you to get clear about what you want and what you are worried about; put those two things together, and then ask “How?” You then are able to start using your strengths and talents to start developing that skill.
-Staying Busy (But Happy) By Living Fully Authentically 1:08
-Avoid Comparison; Turn Fear Into a Skill 7:32
-Apply Your Strengths to Learn New Skills 19:40
“Everything is about taking all these things that you’re afraid of, turning them into a skill, and ultimately doing everything in a way that is fully authentic to you, in a way that nobody else on this planet can do, because you are infinitely unique and cannot be duplicated! That means that what you’re going to do to solve this problem is different than the way anybody else has ever done it because it’s YOU. It’s coming from YOU. And it’s time for you to start listening to your inside voice.” 21:11

In today’s episode, Eddie shares a personal experience when he had an employee quit because of something he said. He shares this experience to illustrate a lot of principles that can help anyone who is in a position of influence and is worried about people misinterpreting their words. In this experience, Eddie was surprised that in his efforts to offer words of encouragement to his employee, he actually drove him to quit. He points out that before his employee left, he should have asked him what it was that he thought that he had said. He then teaches the most important principle: that if you’re taking anything anyone says to you as disempowering, it’s not true. Eddie then invites you to choose 4 of your Clifton strengths, describe each one in 3 to 5 words, and put those descriptions together to motivate you to solve your problems today.

“So what I want you to do is think about this: when you’re listening to mentors, or friends, or anybody -- whether they’re an expert or not -- if what they said puts power into you, then believe it. Okay? If it puts you and keeps you in your business, then believe it. If you have a thought, or a feeling, or someone shares a story, or ANYTHING, that lets you believe that your strengths and talents are not perfect; if any thought that pops into your head that makes you think that you can’t do this, what you’re choosing to believe is a lie. And it’s time to put the power back into you.” 18:32

Today’s episode features a clip from Eddie’s Unleash Your Strength Live Chat, which he does every Saturday at 9am, MST on facebook.com/growwitheddie. The message we share today is that you don’t have to have it all together to be able to inspire somebody. We apply this to those who are trying to build their business or presence on social media. We illustrate this concept with an example he encountered on one of his Facebook groups of someone who was honest about his struggles but was able to share enormous value in just a 3 minute video. We explain that the best example that we can set is being honest about where we are, where we want to be, and how we want to get there. Eddie then shares where he is and where he wants to be with his business, and encourages listeners to do the same and move forward in 2020.

“It’s only now that I truly believe I could help the world. And I truly believe I can help the world because I’m seeing the results. Right? That’s it. That’s the point: I didn’t believe it until I saw the results. But I couldn’t have created the results if I thought I had to believe it first. You see what I’m saying, my friends? You don’t have to have results in order to prove that you can create results! It’s like saying you need experience to get experience!” 14:19

In today’s episode, we talk about a concept from a book called, “Loving What Is,” which is that we often think we’re right when we’re actually not. We think we’re justified in our disappointment towards others because we focus on what we think is justifiable evidence against them -- We dismiss the part we play, and judge people based on what they do, and then justify ourselves by thinking we know what’s going on in their heads. Today, we discuss how we are wrong in these situations, 100% of the time. We explain how we lose our feelings of anger or frustration towards others when we take responsibility for what we can do to improve the situation. We explain how we couldn’t possibly know why anyone is behaving the way they are because everyone is infinitely unique; so we should ask questions to better understand.

“I came from a really crappy place. I would constantly beat myself up and hate on who I was for years. And I was able to dig myself out of that with the help of a lot of great people and knowing my strengths. That’s all I want to teach people how to do. Because I understand where you’re from; I understand what it feels like to doubt yourself or even hate yourself. I get it. I understand. I know what it’s like to look at my past and judge myself and say to myself, ‘there’s nothing I could ever do to be worthy of more.’ I know what it’s like. I’ve been there, and if you feel that way, I feel you.” 21:47

In this episode, we talk about important life lessons and show how they apply through Eddie’s current situation of having too much work to do. He mentions the names of some of his coaches and mentors, including Setema Gali, Garrett J. White, and Bob Proctor. He talks about the lessons he learned from them -- including how to objectively look at your life to identify truth -- and the changes that took place in his life as a result of applying those truths. He explains how his group works, and how he applied what he talks about in this episode to learn an important lesson while trying to help others to benefit from participating in his group.

“I mean, think about it: if you could invest 10,000 dollars, and get back 10 years of your life would you do it? Yeah! Of course you’d do it! That’s what coaches do. You give them money, they give you time back into your life! They save you time! Because, instead of going and figuring out these things for yourself, and wasting time, they’re going to shorten that learning curve for you.” 10:08

In today’s episode, we share more about Eddie’s goal to help 1000 people join his group this year. We talk about the importance of valuing your own unique strengths and believing that you do have value to add to the world. As part of this, we share the audio from a video that was made for Eddie’s group. In this video, Eddie shares that believing in your value and expressing gratitude for it will change your life. He says that in order to truly see his value, he has to see that he is helping others. He also shares that the other part of believing in your value is believing that you deserve it. This is done by reflecting on the hard work that you put into helping others when they express gratitude for what you’ve done for them. Then, recognizing your value, you express gratitude for it by doing more to share it.

Today we talk about the importance of resilience, which we define as the ability to get back up faster when you get knocked down. We explain how consistency is the key to achieving what we want, and how building resilience can reduce or even eliminate the hesitation that keeps us from being consistent. We illustrate this with some experiences from Eddie’s life where failure brought trauma and self-hate. We then explain how everything was turned around for Eddie when he realized that he needed to see his failures as happening for him and not happening to him. We then share an exercise that can help us to embrace our failures and prepare us to take risks in the future. We conclude by extending you a special invitation to take the Gallup Strengths Assessment (gallup.com/access) and give you instructions for how you can receive a free 1 hour meeting with Eddie.

In today’s episode, Eddie talks about one of his personal goals in order to illustrate what you need to do in order to achieve new and intimidating goals. His goal is to increase the membership in his group to 1000 members by the end of this year. We talk about the importance of recognizing that we can get what we want by being ourselves, not by being those who we think have what we want. We discuss what has to be done in order to break down these incorrect patterns of belief. One of these things is understanding, within the context of our strengths, what it is that is motivating us to set and achieve our goal. We also talk about the importance of identifying how our strengths lead to our successes, so that we can take credit for the part we play in our accomplishments and thus be more confident in future success.

“What I want to take away from this podcast episode is for you to look at the goals and the things that you want and realize that you don’t have to be something you’re not. You can go through this process of getting clear about what you want on the outside as well as what you want on the inside, what is in the way, what is your plan (even if you don’t have a plan), and how are you going to use your strengths to help you do it in a way that honors who you are; so that when you do it, you’ll be able to actually take credit for the part that you played in that accomplishment.” 23:18

In today’s episode, we talk about choosing our focus, knowing that what we focus on expands. We point out the importance of embracing fear and vulnerability when committing to living fully authentically. We also discuss how we need to focus on what is conducive to getting what we want, instead of our weaknesses, anxieties, and insecurities. Eddie shares some experiences from his life that illustrate these principles -- how focusing on the negative kept him back and how he realized that constantly focusing on the good has brought him happiness and success.

And so when I look at my Clifton strengths, now it’s MY WEAPON against the nonsense that takes place inside of my head that tries to beat my head. In today’s episode, we talk about the pain of commitment and how we need to stop trying to numb it. We also break down how to do this with your strengths. We begin by sharing an example from Eddie’s life -- how in his current effort to grow he had to confront the urge to numb the pain of his new commitment and refuse to follow it. We then explain that we must not give in to the belief that who we are is not going to work, because that always leads to us dipping into our bottom strengths and doing things that aren’t authentic to who we really are. We talk about how motivating and energizing it is to apply our top ten strengths one by one to any new task we undertake. We also give an important challenge to not wait to be happy, but remember how our strengths have helped us succeed in the past and choose to be that person every day.

As part of this, we are given an honest look at what happens to Eddie when he goes to the gym -- how it changes his attitude and enthusiasm for the day, and how this difference is even reflected in his tone of voice. After his workout, he shares some things he learned while listening to audiobooks during his workout, including the importance of understanding fear and learning how to handle it as we try to live fully authentically. Most importantly, this episode illustrates the power of a good morning routine as we see that during his, Eddie learned the empowering truths he shares with us today.

What happens to you and those around you when you quit? We all have days where we have our butts handed to us, but what we choose to do is all that matters. In 2002, Eddie was working at 24-hour fitness, and during his job interview, he had an interesting experience with the interviewer. During the interview, the macho trainer conducting the interview shared a story that made Eddie feel like he needed to be something he wasn't. One of the things Eddie learned from this was that as we tell stories to other people, we need to be aware of how we are representing ourselves to others and what they are gathering from what we are telling them. Another major thing Eddie experienced during this time was the feeling of inadequacy that he felt during the initial interview. When it comes to doing things that you want to do, the worst thing you can do is change who you are. If we try to change who we are to fit into a mold that simply doesn't fit, we won't find success, but we will be more and more drained by the end. We need to own who we are.

In this episode, Eddie shares an experience he had with one of his children. He had a real honest conversation with his daughter, which led him to help her work through one of her problems. One of the concepts that helped him do this is talking with his children as if they are adults, rather than treating them like children. They talk about the story she was telling herself, which involved doing something that would make her sad but that would make someone else happy.

One of the goals of this podcast is to help you love who you are and apply it to what you do. Many times, we are often unhappy because we are trying to force ourselves to be someone who we believe we need to be, but does not align with who we are. When we get into these situations, we often fear that we are either too much or not enough. The fearful state is linked with cortisol on the chemical level, which affects our entire body. If we live in this state of fear, we are constantly under an unhealthy state of 'cortisol drip'. If we are always in this situation, we are not physically well. We need to overcome this in order to have a healthy environment for our body and mind.

This is the second part to the 'How You Do Anything' episode, so if you haven't listened to the last episode, listen to that one first! This episode is about understanding what happens when you feel like you're either too much or not enough. Most people want to achieve but don't believe in their own abilities to get things done, and feel either too needy or too pushy. And most things will stay the way they are unless we learn how to change them, which comes by changing the way we think. In this episode, Eddie discusses the ways in which we can improve our relationships and improve the way we think.

Do you need help formulating a plan to get things done? Eddie's goal in this episode is to help you make a plan to get things done. By focusing our energy on only a handful of things, we can get more results in life, and even get more things done simultaneously. Wasting our energy on too many things at once can limit our true potential and waste time on unnecessary projects. The idea behind this episode is 'how you do anything is how you do everything', knocking out one thing in order to create a domino effect to everything else you need to do.

If you haven't listened to the first part of this two-part episodes, listen to the first part before this one. The idea behind this episode is to focus on and honor your strengths while working together in marriage. We don't need to have the same strengths to have a great marriage, but we do need to honor each other's strengths to really live up to who we need to be. Both partners in a marriage want the same or similar things, but often we have different ways of going about it. We may be completely different people, but our differences fill in each other's gaps.

When we are involved in relationships, they don't have an end. Most don't enter into long term relationships with a contract with an end date. Whether this makes someone feels secure, or stuck, in the relationship, we try to make these relationships work even when they aren't working well. Many people believe that their partner needs to be like them or that they need to be like their partner, but that's not necessarily true. One of the truths we need to accept is that our partner should be different than ourselves. We can work together more effectively if we accept and love the different ways we do things.

Years ago, when Eddie was at one of the darkest times in his life, he read a book that changed his life. Since then, he has used it in his coaching and has changed the lives of many through this book. One of the core insights gained through this book is the concept of not taking responsibility for things that aren't your responsibility - or taking responsibility for the wrong things. When we take responsibility for the wrong things, we hesitate. We can't take responsibility for other's success, happiness, or experience. By focusing our energy on the wrong responsibilities, we end up drained in the process, rather than moving forward in a way that honors who we are.

Executors are people who thrive on getting things done. In this episode, Eddie talks about where executors struggle to help you become better at what you do and become more focused. Executors really focus on being productive and value what they are putting into each day's work. A lot of the time, they'd rather just be productive than analyze the work being done. For those who have the 'activator' strength in their top 10 skills, they are amazing and starting things but not necessarily great at finishing things. There can be an overwhelming need and desire to put things into motion. In this episode, Eddie discusses how this strength works with his other strengths in combination to achieve high results. He also talks about how to get past the initial motivation to get things done and move it toward long term motivation. By focusing on long-term growth, we can get past that initial motivation and turn it into something more meaningful.

Do you want to be able to maximize the strengths you have? In this episode, Eddie analyzes the strengths and weaknesses involved with those who have 'strategic' in their top strengths. These people are good at analyzing and picking ways to do things based on what they know. These people pick the best ways based on what they know, but this can be hard when one isn't constantly educating themselves. Strategic thinkers may get stuck on picking certain options if they don't have the knowledge at their disposal.

In this episode, Eddie talks about his struggles as he began really hitting it hard with his work. In this episode, Eddie discusses the 'relator' and what that means in terms of their strengths and weaknesses. These are the kind of people who value relationships deeply and hate shallow conversations and small talk. Often, they hold people to what they say and hold themselves to what their own values as well. However, with this rigidity comes a danger if they aren't flexible to certain situations. We need to have the flexibility to deal with difficulty in life if we are to thrive as we need to.

We are meant to be of service and value to other people in a way that honors who we are. The activity of bringing that service and value should bring joy to others as well. Everything in your life can be improved if you do it in a way that is true to you. But you need to call out to what you want.
