As an established leader in AI, Peter Voss is passionate about answering the question of making AI more and more human. What is (and isn't) AI? How much further does AI need to go to reach that "human" threshold? Should we be concerned about this closing of the gap, or is there a bigger problem to keep in mind? We discuss all this and more in Educative Sessions.
ABOUT OUR GUEST
Peter Voss started out in electronics engineering, but quickly moved into software. After developing a comprehensive ERP software package, Peter took his first software company from a zero to 400-person IPO in seven years. Peter founded SmartAction.ai in 2009, which developed the first AGI-based call center automation technology. Now, in his latest venture, Aigo.ai, he has created a ‘Conversational AI’ technology with a mission of providing hyper-intelligent hyper-personal assistants for everyone.

In spite of a perceived increase in accessibility to the means of coding, Meredydd Luff thinks there's a culture within code that's actually having the opposite effect. In the past, it was possible to stumble into programming sideways and still produce a useful artefact for an end user. Nowadays, there are so many pre-requisite languages, frameworks, and libraries that it actually prevents us from getting started and leaving some space in our brain to be creative.
To quote the software engineer Frederick P. Brooks, "The programmer, like the poet, works only slightly removed from pure thought-stuff. He builds his castles in the air, from air, creating by exertion of the imagination. Few media of creation are so flexible, so easy to polish and rework, so readily capable of realizing grand conceptual structures.”

At an early age, Davit Buniatyan was poised for a stellar career in academia. Divine Odazie started learning to code during his gap year before university, but Learning to code wasn’t rosy for Divine, from using a laptop that lasted 30 minutes without power to keeping late nights to access cheap internet. Stuck in tutorial hell for a year, he tried product management instead.
While writing non-fiction articles, Divine saw the need to write on problems he faced while building projects. Since then, it has been an awesome learning experience for him.

Although Rasheed Bustamam has worked in a senior capacity in many projects, he prefers to consider himself a "junior developer for life." This mentality helps him set aside his experience and ego and try to look at every project with a junior's perspective, asking himself questions like "Why is this written this way?", "Is this simple enough to understand?", and "Where are the gaps in my knowledge?" These questions help him think through solving business problems in a less complex manner.

One of the first books that Chris Huie fell in love with was "...a story about a rogue economist" called Freakanomics. In it was a beautiful framework for how to approach problems and that mentality would lay the foundation for Chris's future. He would go on to study finance and end up having decently fast-paced career in business and finance. However, the zero-sum mentality that had served him well in the business world didn't feel natural. Open-source is the mental counter-point to zero-sum.

Sam Wilson was born in a rural town in Kentucky, raised by a mom and granny who renamed him after an orphan from a TV movie of the week. The waves of just six channels survived the long journey to a remote rustic home betwixt fields of corn and tobacco.
