Seven games into the 2022 college football season and the Canes are 3-4. It really comes at no big surprise considering the product "The U" has put on the field the last two decades. Mediocrity is not even the best description for the program. Coach Mario Cristobal definitely has his hands full in rebuilding this program back to respectability.

Micromanaging is such a dirty word in the business world and office setting. But in education it drives teachers crazy. Especially when you have micromanaging principals and/or administrators in schools who want to control everything like lesson plans, how instruction should be delivered, to how your classroom should look and be ran; heck, they even want to control the thermostat setting. Loews Portofino Bay Hotel might be the best hotel on Universal Orlando's property. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary by staying there. My podcast has talked a lot about the shortcomings of both students and parents when it comes to education, especially in high school. However, in fairness and transparency, my podcast has also recognized that at times it is the educators themselves that are at fault or doing the most harm to our future generations. This episode looks at how the failures and wrongs of educators can cause serious danger and damage, and give the whole profession that "bad apple" reputation.

This episode discusses my experience at Walt Disney World during Spring Break (March 21-25). Let's talk about crowd levels at the parks, the Epcot International Flower & Garden, and my thoughts on Disney Genie+ where I'll discuss both the pros and the cons.
So the great state of Florida and its Republican legislature passed three controversial bills for Governor DeSantis to sign: Abortion, Individual Freedom (Stop WOKE Act) and the Parental Rights in Education (Don't Say Gay). How ironic that the abortion bill passes on March 3rd, during Women's History Month, and the last two bills passing on March 11th and 10th, respectively. This episode discusses these three bills and the impact, and the serious repercussions of those bills for Florida Republicans.

In this episode, I briefly talk about getting ready to visit Walt Disney World during spring break. How crowded will it be for spring break? This brief episode discusses the headache of a feature that is nearly standard in every vehicle in today's automotive world...the auto start/stop button. The purpose is to save gas and emissions when stopped at a red light, stop sign, etc. But what happens when the engine does not want to restart and there is the possibility of being rear-ended? Is this a great feature or an accident ready to happen?
Since the beginning of COVID-19 and the lockdown almost two years ago, mental health has been push to the forefront. Which is a great thing for everyone, but what about the mental health of educators??? Educators endure with a lot of issues both in and out of the classroom in their daily lives. But no one is checking in with them to make sure that they're doing well too. Let's have that serious discussion on ways for educators to take care of themselves and their mental health.
Fatherhood...the toughest job a man will EVER have in his life. In this episode, I talk about my experiences of being a Black father of three, including a newborn son, and the joys, blessings, worries and concerns, and those rough bumps on this road of being a father. Ray Talks Live returns after a three-month hiatus and is ready for 2022. The addition of a newborn to the family and returning to the daily grind of a classroom educator led to a pause of this podcast. This episode is just a quick refresh and outlines a few topics for upcoming episodes.
Are high schools truly preparing its graduates for the real world? I ask this question because as a teacher who has taught seniors (12th graders) for the last six years...Are we truly preparing them for life after high school? The majority of them do not have a plan or any idea as to what to do with their life. How can we change this and get the next generation of students ready for the real world?
Standardized testing is the hallmark of education these days. But it also puts learning on hold and drains the life out of both students and teachers. This episode discusses my feelings and takes about the issues and problems with standardized testing in the high school setting. A bit of gratitude to Governor Ron DeSantis for getting rid of the Florida Standards Assessment testing (FSA) in my state after this 2021-2022 school year.

COVID-19 cases are rising once again across the United States, especially the Delta variant. The CDC has once again recommended that everyone wear face masks indoors regardless of their vaccination status. I had the pleasure of interviewing Hassan C, a good friend from college who lives and works in Washington, D.C. We discuss political matters including the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and how was life in Washington with Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama compared to Donald Trump. The interview concludes talking about the upcoming college football season.

Last week (May 10-16, 2021), the CDC updated its guidelines for fully vaccinated Americans. Has it been two weeks since your second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines OR the one dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine? Then you know longer have to wear a face mask indoors or outdoors unless where federal, state or local mandates are still in place. Therefore, you can go back to normal activities prior to the pandemic. The CDC also updated its guidelines for the cruise industry in the United States. Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of all three counts of murder of George Floyd. Yes, justice was served because the verdict was correct, but at what cost? Why this verdict is a no-win situation for America as we continue to deal with systemic racism. The cure is having open and honest conversations with each other.

Follow me as I take a trip down memory lane and reminisce about my days of growing up in the church. Although I grew up as an Episcopalian, growing up in the church is something that anyone can identify with regardless of your denomination. What is your favorite memory of growing up in church?
In this episode I review the controversial Tuskegee Experiment from 1932 that involved 600 Black men from Macon County, Alabama, and the secretive experiment on syphilis by the United States Public Health Service. Learn what was the Tuskegee Experiment and the apology issued by President Bill Clinton in May 1997 for this experiment. I also discussed why there is distrust from the Black community towards the medical system. Plus, why is there such a large discrepancy in who has been vaccinated here in the the State of Florida.

How the value and appreciation of teachers changed dramatically during 2020. Prior to COVID-19 and the shutdown, teachers were respected to some degree. However, that completely changed when parents had to become teachers with their children those last few months of the 2019-2020 school year. Then all of a sudden, teachers are given all this praise, great respect and appreciation, and calls for higher pay/salary. But as the 2020-2021 school year started, there was this sudden pushback of opening schools virtually and feedback of calling teachers lazy and that they don't want to work. Seriously??!!!

How important is it to have generational wealth? Is it something that you strive for and work hard for? But does building generational wealth to leave for your child(ren) and grandchild(ren) rob them of that rite of passage of knowing life's "struggle" ? Will having that generational wealth cost them not to achieve and maximize the talents that God has given them? Did your own struggles in life make you the person you are today?
