High Frequency is one of my alltime faves, hard to find on 45 these days. Pete Lancaster is austrian 45 only, get it now while it's still cheap. Eyes of Blue nice dancer, strange lyrics. Montclairs is a longer and better mix than on US Paula. Fossati and Prudente is the very first issue, of course they changed the name to the better sounding "Al Foster Band" for the US release. Don Gardner in my opinion the very best version of this fantastic song.

Carl Douglas Set, Afrodisia and Carol Williams are german-only releases. The Bellaphon release is the only way to get this nice Motown cover by the Three Degrees on 45. Babs Mercer is local label and much better mix than on Capitol. Mary Wheeler is the second best version of this stunning beat ballad. I'll save the very best version for the next podcast.

Among all the different genres the Northern Soul scene has on offer, my favourite one is Beat Ballads. Big productions, full orchestra with the kitchen sink thrown in, heart-wrenching lyrics, great voices, the lot.
This podcasts incorporates the whole spectrum of beat ballads: Big fully blown productions like Roy Hamilton, Jimmy Beaumont or Little Anthony, bordering midtempo dancers like Patty LaBelle or Wade Flemons, blue-eyed stuff like Peggy March or Dick Hafner, wrist slashers like Big Maybelle and what have you.

My favourite local soul night "Deeper Shade" at the Atomic Cafe here in Munich celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. It started as a bi-weekly event for the first few years. Monthly now it still gets a large number of punters through the doors.
To commemorate the anniversary this month's episode features a live DJ set from yours truly, recorded on the day 15 years ago. I used to be a resident DJ for the first few years and think the podcast showcases the high quality of sounds played back then pretty good.
