We are a Christ loving millennial couple that probably knows a little less than you! So we find cool experienced people to let us in on how they manage to develop and maintain a Christ centered home and then get you the deets on how to do it too.
We are so thrilled and grateful to have Matt and Katie Davis on the podcast this week! They shared their personal experiences with recovery from Pornography Addiction and Betrayal Trauma, and how they were able to turn it over to Jesus Christ to be healed as individuals and to save and heal their marriage. In this episode we were privileged to have Kurt Francom on the show from Leading Saints to talk with us on the sensitive topic of the rise of members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints deciding to leave or take a step back from the church. We talked about what our role is as leaders and friends when this situation arises, and how we ourselves as active members can stay in the church even through our crisis of faith. So many wonderful and interesting insights, and we hope you find something to take away from it! We definitely did! A few weeks ago our Stake President asked us how we access the atonement of Jesus Christ. We gave some heartfelt answers and then spent the next several weeks being instructed by the spirit how we could better answer that question in the future. Let us know how you would answer this question!
In this episode we discuss something that has been in our thoughts and hearts really since the pandemic started in 2020 and that is— HOPE. What is it? What does it mean to have a perfect brightness? What does hope look like for us? How do we get more of it? And so on.

Woohoo! We made it to seven years of marriage! We talk today about some of our lessons from the past seven years and why Emily is so good at marriage. I mean She is basically perfect, drop dead gorgeous, and next level spiritual. How could she not be an awesome spouse?1?1
We sat down this week with Andrew’s maternal grandparents who just celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary! They share insights into the struggles young Latter-day Saint couples faced when they were first married and the things they did to overcome them. They then talk about how those lessons can benefit us today.
Grandma also shares about a time she felt “like an elephant was crapping on (her) head” and grandpa’s witty response that has still remained a catch phrase in their marriage decades later.
These great people are leaving a spiritual legacy and inheritance that is currently and will continue to bless their descendants throughout the eternities. We LOVE them and this episode.
Sometimes when world, national, or local news, or even our own lives get heavy and stressful all we want to do is scoop up our little family and escape into the woods somewhere and not associate with anyone. We have been calling this the "bunker mentality." As enticing as this seems, we know deep down that it isn't what Heavenly father would want us to do. When you're in a bunker, you can't project light or peace or faith, or anything. You're fear based. When you create an outpost mentality, your living a faith based life. We can live IN the world and not OF the world.

If your haven’t listened to part 1, we HIGHLY recommend that you start there (142) and then come back to this one! We LOVED having Bonnie and Braeden on this episode to discuss the importance of standing in holy places, what it REALLY means to put on the armor of God, and combatting some misconceptions that people have about private and home school education.

Liberty Youth Academy is a private school started by a Latter-day Saint family in St. George to be a holy place of learning through the lense of the gospel of Jesus Christ. They now have a second location in Sahuarita, Arizona and are hoping to continue to grow! In this episode we discus the why and how of their school, and some principles of agency and dive into the American constitution, Braeden’s passion.

Everyone say hello to Nicole Horlacher from @thoughtbosscoaching ! We had a great time talking to her about what it means to be the boss of our thoughts. We know that thoughts leads to feelings and feelings lead to actions right? So if we can control our thoughts, we really can be the best us we can be. Nicole teaches us how we can really do that, applying the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Emily was able to speak in Stake Conference (a meeting of several local congregations) about positivity and being more faith-filled. In this episode she gives us a deep dive into the the points she shared. None of them are ground breaking or complex, but when you apply these small and simple practical principles over time you will notice a HUGE difference.
We all are telling ourselves stories. Right now. A fact or event occurs and we assign a feeling and response to it BECAUSE we made the fact or event MEAN something to us BECAUSE we are telling ourselves a story. Make sense? Well in this episode that’s what we are talking about! Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could sing the song from the Prince of Egypt—“Look at your life through heavens eyes…” and actually DO it? How can we write positive narratives for ourselves? Also you can be the hero of your narrative! Write yourself as the hero, not the the victim! Okay calming down now. Just give it a listen, k? Thanks!
Have you done or started any spring cleaning yet this year? We are just getting the spring cleaning and home organization bug now, and ESPECIALLY after this conversation with Krystal Wilkerson from @homes.made.holy

In this episode we welcomed guest, Shiloh Jordan, our new one week old baby boy to the show! So if you hear a lot of breathing and rustling, that’s why! We shared his birth story, talked about unmedicated birth, and tried to explain our new found love for the concept of “earthy.”
We also introduced Light the World with Love 2021, an advent calendar full of service and spiritual prompts to help us all keep Christ in Christmas this year. See the link below to print of the calendar and read more about the Light the World initiative!
Lastly, we introduced our new format for the show! Being routed is very important to us, and we feel like the most rude thing for us to do in this phase of our life is to change up the frequency of our content creation. We will now, starting in 2022, be releasing a series of 6 to 10 episodes in bulk on one single topic, a few times a year. Please be patient with us as we navigate this new phase of life and phase of the podcast. If you would like to suggest a topic for a series or a guest, please connect with us on Instagram @outpostofheaven We would LOVE to connect with you, especially now that we won’t be releasing content on a weekly basis. Let’s keep in touch and be friends!

In this episode we welcomed licensed marriage and family therapist, Tammy Hill, to the show to use her expertise as a sex therapist and mother of 12 children to help us answer listener questions about raising teens in a world full of temptations. She answers questions from "How do we earn our teens' trust?" to "How can I prepare my teen to face the temptations of the world?" to "How can I reach my teen who is avoiding family time?" and many more! Tammy is a wonderful example to us of parenting in faith and not fear, and of letting the spirit guide us in every aspect of raising our kids. In this episode we discussed the topic of miracles in our day, using Elder Ronald A Rasband’s talk from April 2021, “Behold, I am a God of Miracles.” We sometimes are quick to say that God doesn’t give us miracles like He used to, or that miracles have ceased. But this is simply not true. Thanks to Elder Rasband’s words, we better understand that a miracle is a divine manifestation of God’s power and love in your life, and that we can see these miracles every day when we open our eyes to them.

In this episode we welcomed Libby Myers to the show to share her and her husbands story of cancer, loss and grief, and to open our eyes more to what this type of grief looks like. Libby helped us better understand how we can BEST help those in our lives who are grieving, and how we can grieve in a Christlike way when our time for grief comes if it hasn’t already.
In this episode we tackle a complex conversation (and honestly very genuine because we had never fully discussed it before!) and that is- validation or owning your emotions, acting enthusiastic, and the power of positive thinking. We aren’t perfect of course and are not experts so we hope that this just helps spark thoughts and conversations in your own homes! Andrew gave us 4 tips to help us think more positively through a rough day or rough season of life. Just a reminder, we are not talking about deep, clínica, or major depression in this episode. We are talking about hard days and hard seasons that we all go through. If you’d like to hear more about depression, we have a few episodes of our show with guests and professionals that we would love you to listen to:

Hello and welcome to Hurricane Season! That terribly humid and chaotic season between summer and fall in Louisiana. We experienced our first Hurricane since living here—Hurricane ida—and have lots to share about preparation, what we did that worked and what we wish we did. We are so grateful and happy to be safe, and to finally have power back on after 11 days without it. We know a lot of people are not safe and sound yet and still don’t have power and we continue to pray for them and their families. We learned a lot, have grown so much spiritually, and we are hear to share it!
See episode 80 to hear about our Hurricane experiences from last year. Last year many hurricanes came but they all missed us and so Andrew had several opportunities to travel and help others in other parts of Louisiana. He told us lots of stories and taught us how we can better minister to the one.

In this episode we continued our discussion with Lucy about child development— very specifically, the importance of risky play, messy play, and outdoor play! I know I often want to keep my kids in a bubble whether it’s because I don’t want them to get hurt or I don’t want to clean up the inevitable mess that comes with allowing our children to explore. I’ve got to stop that and LET THEM DO THEIR WORK as children!

Tessa, author of “Discovering His Purpose For Your Life And The Courage to Follow It” shared some incredible insights with us about avoiding fear and other excuses keeping us from following the Lord. 2020 has been a doozy of a year but God still wants us to live our best life.
James 2:17-19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

On today’s episode we talked about finding confidence and our calling despite the uncertainty of today’s world. The fact is that the world has always been and will always be filled with uncertainty. The trick is figuring out how to succeed amidst uncertainty instead of waiting to try and succeed until uncertainty is no more. Understanding this principle can help us better value and understand the Lord’s peace. Take heart! All is well in Him who is mighty to save.

In this “walk through” episode we threw it WAY back to episode 4 where we talked about strengthening marriage through shared interests and trying new things. In today’s episode We opened up about how we have personally been doing with the applications of the takeaways from episode 4. We also got pretty serious as we related it all back to Jesus Christ and how we NEED to learn how to simplify and say no to the things that don’t matter.

Are you homeschooling? If not, have you or are you considering it? We are welcoming back the super sweet and enthusiastic Courtney Richardson from episode 76. Principle Based Education & Homeschool. We drilled her with our questions and listener questions ALL about homeschool, and we learned SO much. “It’s not easy, but it’s so worth it!” What we loved most about Courtney’s experience and expertise, is that she makes it a family ordeal! They have cultivated a love and a family culture of Learning Together.

Happy Halloween! Remember those fears you had as a kid? Monsters in the closet or under the bed? The dark? Sharks? Ghosts? PLEASE! We STILL fear these things as adults! But we have also grown into other fears such as not feeling accepted, not appearing competent, and standing up for ourselves. Fear is ok! We have to be genuine in that feeling. BUT what is most important is that we turn to God in our moments of Fear, and we DO something about it! PUNCH that fear right in the face!

In this episode we had the incredible opportunity to sit down with Pastor Harvey from Divine Grace Temple, Bishop Seth Richardson of the Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints, and President Amos, Mission President of the Baton Rouge Louisiana Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with his beautiful wife, Sister Amos.
The discussion covered issues including the historical divide between white and black churches, the difference in the roles of those churches in white and black society, what does overcoming these barriers actually look like, how the love of Christ will not only solve this division but all divisions, and what each individual follower of Christ can do to bring about the needed “Love Revolution.”
This conversation is just one of the many conversations that need to take place to unite the children of God, but we are hopeful that it will help perpetuate this eternally significant process until all are one in Christ.

Nobody’s perfect and we are all still learning about ourselves and our peers.
For today’s episode we invited Britney Carpenter, the Operation Undergroud Railroad Team Leader for South Utah County, to share her perspective on volunteering for an organization. We talked about the glorious life changing benefits and honest struggles of serving in an organization.
Operation Underground Railroad is an organization that actively fights against child sexual slavery. In the past 5 years it has reached over 3,100 children and assisted in the arrest of over than 1,700 traffickers worldwide.
We encourage everyone to serve other, whether that be serving you neighbor, family, or even joining an organization. There is a wide variety of opportunities to volunteer for OUR on their website. There are enough people talking about, well screaming about, the specific policy solutions to the current racial and political divide in the world right now. We did not want to just rehash the same things you are hearing everywhere else so we decided to talk about forgiveness and seeing our brothers and sisters as individuals and doing these things as a precursor to any Christ based solution to our problems. Christ has given us instructions on how to deal with our “enemies” that applies to all people regardless of their political perspectives. We are exploring these issues as we go. Come and join us.

Hello Beautiful People who are stuck at home through the corona virus craziness! Today we wanted to share one way that we can come closer to our family and to God during your stay at home time, and that is by doing family history. We give plenty of ideas about how you can get started or continue on your family history hobby.

Do you ever find it difficult to maintain the same level of sanity or outpost of heaven-ness when one spouse travels are is often away? (I'm raising my hand but you cant see it!!!) This episode was a home run all because of our fantastic, spirit led guests Chris and Brittni Cotton, who opened up about what life is like for a mother and father when one parent frequently travels for work and church, and how they seek to continue to strengthen their relationships and spirits during those times.
Brittni also shares some of her mental health journey, how she has grown because of it, AND gives us mothers AND fathers tips to adjust to stay-at-home mom life. She is basically super woman and we love her.

(PART 1) In this episode Lee, a Family Therapist, and his wife Liana, a Nurse Practitioner, hashed out what exactly anxiety and depression are. What is the difference between having a hard time and having anxiety or depression? What can medication do? What can therapy do? What can they NOT do? How can we know when we need to reach out for help? We also touched on Postpartum Depression--because that is so different and unique, it just had to be brought up on its own.
Stick around next week for part 2 to get their advice on how to help your loved ones who are dealing with these issues, and how taking care of your mental health is part of God’s plan.

We did a podcast swap with them recently and had a blast with these lovely, hilarious, and righteous women, so make sure you head on over to their platforms linked below to hear their podcast and follow them on social media!
In this episode we talked about what it means to be a gentle parent and a mindful parent and how we can take steps to become the best mom and dad we can be. Jesus Christ is our biggest example of what it means to be gentle and mindful, and as we follow that example, we will be closer to Him and closer to our children.

Today we are going to be talking about sex, which is like BAM! Bold and maybe awkward but guess what? Sex was created by God, not the other guy. It is Godly and good. And we feel that God's perspective is so important we had to talk about it. Hailey Weller is soon to be graduating from BYU in the Home and Family Department specializing in Human Sexuality.
We talk about the origin of sex, talking about sex with kids, using positivity more than negativity, and how to decide what is and is not appropriate. So many gems, facts, and spiritual moments from Hailey and we are so happy she was able to come share with us!

Whoa oh oh oh! Whoa oh oh oh oh oh! Does this song from our intro run through your head? Well you have Michael Barrow and the Tourists to thank for that! Listen to this episode to get to know Michael Barrow and hear his experience and advice about creating an outpost of heaven when nowhere feels like home.
Sometimes where you are doesn't feel like home. Whether that is your literal place of residence or the phase of life your in, there are some things we can do to feel more "at home" instead of out of place.
Michael also opens up about his experience feeling abandoned by God and seeking his love. Doubts and questions of the soul arise at some point in life for everyone. We seek God's love and attention and sometimes it's hard to recognize and feel. We testify that every one of you is a child of God. He loves you and wants you to be happy. Hold on to that fact when things get fuzzy.
You can listen to Michael Barrow and the Tourists wherever you listen to music!
Hey Guys! Welcome! If you're new here thanks for giving us a chance to bring light and positive family practice into your lives! Normally Andrew is with me here and makes this podcast so much more gender neutral and balanced, however, for this episode he was out of town, and it turned into more of a girls chat--String Artist and mother of three McKayla Merrill from @kaylaydesign and me, Emily from @heavenfeels.co chatted about McKayla's business and how she decided to take a step back from her business to focus on her family. I love and admire this girl so much! Reach out to her! She is the warmest person I have ever met, and she loves to make new friends.

Happy New Year! And you know what's probably on everyone's mind in some form or another? Planning. Goal setting. Getting organized. And who better to help us out with that than Jacqueline Crane, Hand Lettering Artist and founder of Fontabulous Designs.
We talked about that promise we make to ourselves to journal once a week and then we do it twice before forgetting. Anyone else do that? Well Jacqueline talked to us about what hinders us from keeping a journal. She also explains that there are so many more ways than the traditional "Dear Diary" way to keep a journal! Planners, Lists, Bullet Journaling, Church Journaling. All the things.
This is a must listen to episode if you're feeling a little lost as the new year is starting. We know We needed it BIG TIME.

We are happy to announce new episodes called "Walk Through" episodes. In these episodes, we (Andrew & Emily) briefly review some takeaways from previous episodes and walk you through how the application of principles taught by our guests has been going. We open up about our wins and fails and are vulnerable about how its really going and how we still want to improve. We know that every week we come at you with so many new principles and takeaways and applications and it can be hard to keep up or feel motivated to act, so we thought we would do this to show you that we are working on it too, and we sure as heck are not perfect at all! We also want to encourage you to revisit those important principles taught to us by are amazing guests--because mastering ALL the applications taught even in one episode takes far longer than just one week.
In this first Walk Through, we review episode 8. Family Facts & Positive Parenting ft. Katie Nelson from Lead Guide Walk Beside. If you havent already listened to that one, we highly recommend it as it is one of our top listened to episodes! Let us know what you think about this new Walk Through idea! So far, we are loving it!

Loren Marks is a well known specialist in his field of home and family science. With him, we talked all about the power of reading, and more specifically, reading TOGETHER as a family. In this episode we sat down with three high school seniors to chat about what their parents are doing to help their progression toward adulthood and independence and what their parents are doing that frankly is hindering their progression. We also covered these same questions regarding older siblings! We hope this episode inspires parents to learn from their kids, and inspires teenagers to better appreciate their parents.
We understand that no parent is perfect and no child is perfect. We are not experts either. We just want to help encourage parent-child conversation and mutual understanding.

In a world with ever increasing cases of anxiety, depression, and other mental and emotional instabilities, feeling peace and making peace has never been more important! In this episode we dive deep into what it means to make peace (or be a peacemaker) vs to keep the peace in our relationships with others, with God, and with ourselves.

Romans 8:6 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Alma 32:13-16 13 13 And now, because ye are compelled to be humble blessed are ye; for a man sometimes, if he is compelled to be humble, seeketh repentance; and now surely, whosoever repenteth shall find mercy; and he that findeth mercy and endureth to the end the same shall be saved.
14 And now, as I said unto you, that because ye were compelled to be humble ye were blessed, do ye not suppose that they are more blessed who truly humble themselves because of the word?
15 Yea, he that truly humbleth himself, and repenteth of his sins, and endureth to the end, the same shall be blessed—yea, much more blessed than they who are compelled to be humble because of their exceeding poverty.
16 Therefore, blessed are they who humble themselves without being compelled to be humble; or rather, in other words, blessed is he that believeth in the word of God, and is baptized without stubbornness of heart, yea, without being brought to know the word, or even compelled to know, before they will believe.

In this episode we give a brief and silly introduction of what we are doing, our mission, and ourselves, and we explain the term "outpost of heaven." We also introduced our first "who's the weirdo" segment (which we do every episode where it's just Andrew and me), warned you that Satan is punk, and encouraged you that you can do hard things even if Satan is getting in your way. God loves you! You can do this!
Show notes:
An outpost of heaven is "A fortified position established away from the main body of an army to protect it from attacks and allow that army to project force from a place of strength." It's an earthly home away from our heavenly home. It's a place of safety, peace, love, guidance, and protection from harmful worldly influences.
