Welcome to my Soundcloud Page. You will find songs in a singer-songwriterly vein by me, alt/indie rock songs recorded by The (Now Legendary) Maybees in the 1990s-early 2000s, some classical music by The Lucem Symphonia, as well as banging EDM/electronic tunes by Casaubon and a few mixes of a collaboration with Bentcousin. Unknown Unknown is another alias I have used for one release and Firenze Anemones is a new project. Whether it's plainly a demo or a painstakingly mastered recording, I hope you enjoy what you hear. Please leave comments and don't be afraid to get in touch, I am always interested in getting feedback and connecting with other lovers of music. If you want to download anything, most songs are available on Bandcamp and an increasing number are on all of the usual digital platforms platforms. Happy listening!
Homage to Heatwave in general and Rod Temperton in particular.
Girl what you do to me, I can't begin to say But I need more than twenty-four hours in any one day Understand I'm only one man And you got me working overtime Doing all I can
Girl the way your treating me got no long term benefits I don't want for you to set me free, but I can't take any more of it I'm flat out working day and night Pulling every shift of overtime to try to make things right
Overtime to make you mine I don't mind working hard As long as I get my reward When all I wanna do is make sweet love to you Take each moment as it comes and goes the whole day through But I can't do the things I really want with all this pressure on
So give me my P45 and let me breathe again I'm taking back control of my life This contract's at an end See I don't mind working overtime But I got my hands full enough working on your love
Love and understanding Seem to be in short supply As the days and weeks go by In a world so demanding, Where's the time to be kind Make some room in your heart Take a chance, make a start Christmas Day is the greatest day of the year One day when hate and selfishness disappear Christmas time can be the greatest time of our lives So let's make this the best one we've ever had Free your heart and your mind Take one great day at a time Visions of tomorrow Fill your dreams up while you sleep With a promise that we'll keep Let no heart be hollow There's love enough to fill it up Take some time in your life If it's wrong, make it right Keep one thing in your mid Take one great day at a time Good and bad times, we seem to have come through And survived, stayed alive Health and happiness, honesty and truth Kept the light burning bright Clear your heart and your mind Take one great day at a time
All I want for Christmas is an Irish passport Six of eight great-grandparents were born on Irish soil They left to find a better life in Greenbank ghetto's backstreets In dark satanic factories they gave their sweat and toil I don't wanna wind up in a provincial backwater Cut off from the culture that's my natural birthright My Dad, he was a betting man my Ma was a granddaughter Of Cunniffe, Keaveny, Cavanagh, Now don't that qualify? I got all the Undertones' records on rotation I learnt the words to rebel songs at my mother's knee All I want for Christmas is an Irish passport Begged or borrowed, stolen, bought That'll do for me The Irish passport Santa should be giving them out for free Cos now an Irish passport, that's an English luxury
One cold night there came an angel Seek he said and you shall find For this night is born a saviour To you and all mankind See that star of heaven's glory Let it guide you through the night Till you find a newborn baby The purest source of light Gloria in excelsis Deo Peace on Earth, goodwill to all men Let's put aside our differences And begin again So I walked o'er field and mountain To Bethlehem where I beheld In a manger in a stable Jesus Christ Emmanuel
Here comes the 21st Century I hope it does for you all that it did for me It put a beggar out on every street And a Corvette in my drive I kinda feel like a movie star Cruising down Sunset in that car Though it's a boulevard of broken hearts I feel like I've arrived Radio Free America Sending out a message to the world We got everything that you need Satisfaction guaranteed Get on board this rollercoaster and take a ride with me To the land of the free You want a slice of democracy Tune on in to this frequency We got the hippest hypocrisy And service with a smile Welcome to the modern world First you get the car and then you get the girl You get to feel like you're the Duke of Earl Well maybe for a while Radio Free America A broadcast invitation to the world We got everything that you want A fully armed response Get on board this gravy train and groove along with me To the land of the free But don't you walk alone at night Cos nobody's gonna hear you scream In a nightmare that's the flipside to the dream Know what I mean Radio Free America Still trying to throw its arms around the world Money can buy you love Or something close enough Get on board that big white bird and fly across the sea To the land of the free
Written at the end of a 3 week stay in hospital in 1984, this is a song about nurses in general.
Any time there's a vacuum in my heart An emptiness that I can't fill And I can't stop myself falling apart I know you will I can't wait until You push away the night You make the day so bright You make me feel alright And with you by my side There's nothing I can't abide You make me feel alright Every time there's a shadow on my life A cloud from which I cannot run You shine on me with a brilliant light Like a thousand suns I know you are the one Yo push away the night to make the day so bright You make me feel alright and with you by my side there's nothing I can't abide You make me feel alright And I feel better each minute You give your attention to me Each moment shows there's no limit To what can be You make me see
Last night a DJ Tried to Kill Me With a random choice of song She thought that she was tryng to thrill me But somehow she got it wrong She used rhythm like a knife In an attempt upon my life Last night a DJ tried to kill me But somehow I survived I'm an analogue man in a digital worl I like the warmth I crave the affection There isn't a stone I would leave unturned In the pursuit of imperfection But when she holds my hand There's something that happens She took her place behind the deck And played the first song in her set She said music is my drug of choice And I'm pushing it out to you I don't like the sound of my own voice but you do So let's cut through all this empty space between us and build Something that can last forever and ever Drew on some self-help tips From seven hapbits of successful people And tried to choose my attitude And I said "Baby, why don't you put some Devo on,? Maybe that'll lift the mood." I tried to whip it, but I couldn't whip it real good I did some things that no-one in their right mind ever should.
They burnt down the disco, oh what a waste And threw up a casino in its place So you can bet all you've got on a game of chance But there's nowhere that you can go to dance All I want is a place to be My own space in the flow of history Somewhere that I can live, love and be free
We're heading into tomorrow Waving goodbye to yesterday We got a routemap to follow Whatever gets lost along the way We've come so far But I don't know how We're living in the here and now
We got a leisure complex and a retail park A multiplex and the usual coffee shops An all-you-can-eat restaurant can't be far away But the store where you used to buy your clothes Turned into a bar the week it closed Now you can drink all night and through the day But if you feel that bar's the place where you belong And if 'Let's Dance' is your karaoke song Remember that it's red shoes that you put on
I was reading Othello when Elvis Costello Found his way into my conscientiousness I was a Cathoic boy with tastes to match Nothing more and nothing less Though Difford and Tilbrook’s songs all had some great hooks Well London was another world I needed attainable Gods Cos I could never talk to girls Lazy days filled with longing to be cool And the kind of poetry you dont get to read in school
I was waiting for the Crucial Three To coma along and rescue me And if they could take one more We could be the Crucial Four
I broke uo the school band and hung out in Kirklands In my Oxfam overcoat Black polo neck with Ray-Bans And Jean-Paul Sartre quotes Too young for new wave and too old for new pop I was stranded in between Chasing monochrome rainbows And clinging to to a dream If Henry sees how many chords I’ve got Maybe I could hook up with the Yachts
I was waiting for the Crucial Three To lend me credibility I might not have yet arrived But I’ve come a long way since The Osmonds Live
The Bunnymen could have a couple of flops Wah! could be banned from Top of the Pops The Teardrops might not always be together But I’m gonna love this scene forever
Waiting for the Crucial Three To come along and rescue me And if we could take one more We could be the Crucial four Waiting for the Crucial Three To numb my sensibilities And if I can kick the glue, I could be semi-crucial too I could be semi-crucial too Waiting for the Crucial Three Waiting for the Crucial Three

The provenance is in your eyes You slice the truth, you dice the lies Then cut away To a place you've never been before You turn the key, walk through the door And let fade to grey I want real life to be alluring as your deepest, darkest fantasy Your souls set free Standing on the edge of believing Open you eyes and scream It's all a dream
I wanna feel the way you feel When you hold on to something real I want your love And if it takes a thousand years To stem the flow of all thee tears It might be enough I want tonight to be enduring as a sonnet or a symphony No tragedy Like a film you see your whole life in High on a silver screen It's all a dream
I played The Queen Is Dead inside my head Time and time again I'd live out Dogday Afternoon If I could only change the end You tell me you can see the difference between heaven and hell How can you tell which angel fell
I caught a glimpse of what might be And tried to change our destiny What does it mean It's all a dream

Acoustic take on a song written back in 1984 that became a song by the (now legendary) Maybees.
Electro-folk protest song
There's only ever been one cause worth fighting for It's them or us We pay their bills we wage their wars In Lord Kitchener's army Sat up in their gilded halls They know they've got us by the balls But if we spit together boys They'd drown in the tsunami And it's time we woke up And said enough is enough Born to serve, born to rule By the time you've finished school You know which doors open to you And which slam in your face The good life's not won by degrees Even if you can afford the fees Your free to starve, you're free to freeze You'd better know your place And it's time we woke up And said enough is enough And they're trying to breathe life into a corpse It's as if the market eats and drinks and walks You can smell the decay every time they say There is no other way, but it's you that's got to pay Every day and every day you give it all away So if you're marching off to war Know what it is you're fighting for So them as have can get some more The rest can all go hungry From food banks to migrant camps There's discontentment in the ranks Time to say no more no thanks To God and queen and country Cos it's time we rose up, said enough is enough
Cover of the great Bowie song, in a very different style. This recording started out in 2015 as an original, but then I found that Young Americans fitted the rhythm and finished it off as a cover. BVs by Betty.
Another crack at this song from 1978. This is probably the best version of the three (my favourite, anyway).
Asked a porter where we'd be by tomorrow morning He said Listen son you'd better find your way back home I said hold on up, I didn't ask for any warning It's a big wide world and I'll make it on my own So don't you shoot me down if I ask for your suggestions Don't tell me where to go cos I'm heading some place else and you can save your breath don't ask me any questions Stay put until I want your help Don't you try to stack me on a shelf It's a big wide world and I'll make it by myself He said listen son, you're living in a dream When you get tout there, you'll find out that you're wrong It might look so good but nothing's what it seems It's a cruel world, do you think you're hard enough to get along Well I said there's too many people put off by their failure They crawl back home inside their garden gate They sit and criticise you from their own soft corner What I dislike most is waste Too many people they just love to hate Why is this bog wide world such a sad small-minded place So when that train rolls off I know that I'll be on it And no amount of persuasion's gonna out me off So you can keep your advice, cos mister I don't want it When that train rolls down the track I knwo I won't be looking back It's a big wide world My bags are packed
Weatherman says that snow'll be falling NORAD's tracking Santa on his sleigh Hope he gets here in time for Christmas day Cos we've been waiting all year long For this magic time to come I hope it brings you all that you want And we can make it better if we can be together I'll be coming home to you darling, From more than half the world away Hope I make it in time for Christmas day And if you feel unsatisfied Waiting for the moment to arrive Make a little room to spare inside fit in one more present And I could be in heaven Weatherman says that snow'll be falling NORAD's tracking Santa on his sleigh Hope he makes it in time for Christmas day And I'll be coming home to you darling I love you more than any words can say Gonna show you how much on Christmas day
Once cold night there came an angel Seek he said and you shall find For this night is born a saviour To you and all mankind See that star of heaven's glory Let it guide you through the night Till you find a newborn baby The purest source of light Gloria in excelsis Deo Peace on earth, goodwill to all men Let's put aside our differences And begin again So I walked o'er field and mountain To Bethlehem where I beheld In a manger in a stable Jesus Christ Emmanuel
There's nothing wrong with being the quiet one When there's so much you've got to shout about When you heard the sound of the music that shifted the ground You grabbed that guitar and found your way out
The boy with the Gretsch Playing into the screams So bountifully blessed with a swell of success Beyond your wildest dreams Cradled in your arms You step out into the light With no need to set any fancy effects You're the boy with the Gretsch
A New York '57 duo Jet Step one to heaven got it made Country Gent and Tennessee Step two and step three on the way From the Cunard Line to the closing of Cloud Nine Some IOUs are better left unpaid
The boy with the Gretsch Playing so wild and free So clear and so strong the echoes travel on Into eternity Your fingertips glide On strings and across the frets No solo or chord too much of a stretch For the boy with the Gretsch
You can tell that guitar All the secrets of your heart You'd never share Whatever love you want to send You've always got a friend Who will be there You can bend it high You can lay it down deep Make it weep. gently weep
The boy with the Gretsch Shining a light of love From your heart and soul to the Hollywood Bowl It's what the dream's made of It's a hell of a ride When guitars and stars collide From the moment you met Up on that top deck To the boy with the Gretsch There's a place on the stage There's a song in the set For the boy with the Gretsch
Written in 1987, whilst sitting one evening on a beach in southern Spain, thinking to myself "That's Africa just across that water," it was pretty much an all in one go write. I keep promising to finish a musical about Nelson Mandela (called Madiba, I've got about four songs that would fit in and this is one of them). Either that, or maybe change the lyrics to something a bit lighter ( it's a floaty melody, with heavy lyrics, not sure if they match that well). Have a listen and feel free to share and give me any feedback whatsoever.
I feel the wind from the desert blowing sand into my hair From the land across the sea And it’s blown here forver scattering seeds across the earth And your rain falss down on me
The shadow of Africa falls on a world so sad and unforgiving So near and so far the land of our birth from which we all were driven
there’s a light on the horizon that dances through the night as the sea caresses the shore It’s a fire lit for freedom and its beacon’s burning bright Through a darkness that would last forevermore
The shadow of Africa spreads across the sky a silhouette in the moonlight Calling from afar listen to its cry take heed of me tonight
there’s such a long long way to go Down a dark and dangerous road But peace will come when justice is done This I know
And the shadow of Africa falls on us all with the heritage we were given Enticing from afar still I here it call come back to me my children
Written in January 1984, I was influenced by Culture Club, Boy George's was the voice singing in my head as I wrote it. As I recorded it, earlier this year, I thought it had more of a 70s singer-songwriter feel, a bit Godspell, a bit Carole King-ish (flattering myself, there, I reckon). Another youthful, naive sentiment contained in the optimistic lyrics that years of harsh cynicism have almost (but not quite yet) eroded. BTW the paper heart design in the graphic is made by Bettyrose Creations.
North, South, East and West Stand with all their flags unfurled Nation against nation When we only have one world And when we pull together We're always blown apart Could there ever be a change of heart? There's no place for forgiveness There's no room for compromise When brother against brother Must compete to win the prize And when our bonds are broken They're replaced by stronger chains Could a change of heart be all in vain? Say goodbye to strength through mistrust To falsehood and to lies Don't fall for those who say that you must When they never tell you why Choose friendship over violence Love over war But don't sit there in silence If you can change your heart You can change much more and I know this moment Is the time and place to start Be reconciled, be as a child And change, change your heart
Wrote this song in 1980, as a kind of answer song to She Loves You (what would the person on the receiving end of that message say back). That's about it, really. Just got round to recording it for a laugh.
You don't have to tell her how I feel Don't have to say this love is real No no don't tell her, she knows You don't have to tell her how I care And that all I want is her You can forget it, she knows She knows that I want her, so you dan't have to say All the reasons why I should feel this way inside So if you see her passing by You don't have to catch her eye To say I want her, she knows She knows that she makes me feel the way I do And when I get the chance She's gonna feel this way too. So if you see her another time You don't have to say that I'm Still waiting for her, she knows
Stripped down offering of Big Wide World.

I saw a light in your window So I thought I would stop by There's ago much you seem to know I can't begin to say why Lately I've been asking questions Answers are always incomplete And I had an idea that if I found you here You could make these mysteries meet They say that you're a man of vision In this country of the blind Take a look across the river Tell me what I'll find Cos I've been standing at the edge But it's too wide to swim across I tried to find my self a bridge All that were built are now lost Don't ask for what you can't deliver Cos you've walked on the other shore I know you've been across the river Can't you tell me what it's for?

Another crack at a song that's already uploaded that I didn't feel I'd got right. It's also a shameless pitch for plays from Radio Merseyside, based for a long time (guess where).
Looking for ways to be amazed relentlessly Feel that sense of wonder in contemplating what might be When I'm moving to a different beat Down to the bus shelter where we used to meet I'm on Paradise Street We'd get on board the forty-four or thirty-nine And ride around the city till the sun went down And from the top deck we could see All the people moving by down beneath us on Paradise Street Now I don't care if we go nowhere I'll just come along for the rise It ain't the destination when I'm travelling by your side When the taste of love and life is so sweet You get the feeling that it's almost complete You're on Paradise Street
Don’t read my lips Your fingertips Are sending shivers right down my spine I want your love Won’t you be mine And the way that you dip your eyes at me Play with your hair as we stand in line Makes me think that something has to be Superfine It’s only a matter of time If I misread the signals you were sending me I’m sorry that I got it wrong Who’d have thought that I would fall so easily Bet you did all along And the moment you turn your eyes away Give me a chance maybe I should take There’s a vooice in y head says seize the day And another says it’s a mistake You might think I’m foolish Cos I don’t know which move I should make Don’t read my lips Your fingertips Are sending shivers right down my spine I want your love Won't you. be mine You put words in my head like poetry And if I try try to make them rhyme Would you say that you’d take a chance on me Or decline It’s only a matter of time
God give me strength In the face of this adversity God give me hope Give me a reason to believe I try to live a good life I try to do whatever is right But sticks and stones eviscerate my bones Till I can hardly survive God give me, God give me strength Give hope and give me love Give me something I can be proud of Give me a life to lead A hungry mouth to feed Don’t sit and watch me bleed I try to live a good life I try to do whatever is right But sticks and stones eviscerate my bones Till I can hardly survive God give me God give me strength And when your cross is hard to bear I’ll pick it up, I will be there To bind your wounds and heal your hurts I’ll give you shelter from the storm I’ll keep you safe, I’ll make you warm Keep holding on, keep holding on God give me God give me strength
When I look back on what I did I sold my soul for the highest bid I gave my heart to a higher law I played my part in the holy war Once a child looked through these eyes And saw the world in all of its beauty What kind of man controls these hands What kind of God, what kind of destiny Once a mother raised her son With tenderness and pride she watched him grow I wonder where the love has gone I wonder if she'll ever really know When I look back on what I've done It's down the barrel of a loaded gun Whatever I was fighting for There's no such thing as a holy war I don't believe it anymore I'll never fight another holy war
She crashed into my life Parked her motorcycle in my hall She was good with a knife With a gun, a garrotte, she had it all She’s got issues But I love her tattoos I used to live my life without a care Till I fell in love with the girl who wasn’t there She jumped right off the page Took over all my days and filled my nights I was lost in a haze Couldn’t tell my left from wrong from right Sweet insanity Always does it for me I used to live my life without a care Till I fell in love with the girl who wasn’t there So she dropped a petrol bomb into her Daddy’s car Well what else would you have done If you were her and he was there Now she’s living our on the run though they say she won’t get far She knows the key to being free’s To be whoever she wants to wherever she wants to be I used to live my life without a care Till I fell in love with the girl who wasn’t there
Two of us together Watching waves break on the sand Trying to find a reason why Things never go was planned In another universe it all works out In another universe There's nothing much to write about That's because there's 2 of us The way it is and always was And ever will be the two of us together Two of us together Building castles in the clouds Trying to materialise A palace on the ground In another universe where magic works In another time and place Everything falls into place That's because there's two of us The way it is and always was And ever will be two of us together
I don't want an office job or to work in industry White or blue collars aren't for me Got to do something, Yeah I suppose So here goes I wanna be a Jedi Fly through the universe and save the galaxy That's the kind of work that would suit me No-one to tell you that your best's not good enough No clocking on, no clocking off I don't want to settle down with a girl next door type Lead a semi-detached kind of life I want a queen for a princess nothing less I wanna be a Jedi Leap like an acrobat across chasms of self doubt That's got to be the best way out Free to be who I want to be not trapped by who I am No fringe benefits no pension plan Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor Traffic warden, Jedi Knight Bus conductor, driving instructor, Sleeping policeman, Jedi Knight Maybe I'll get up or maybe I'll stay in bed, Be like Ballistic Squid instead I wanna be a Jedi
Life is a contagious disease That can bring you to your knees If you let it I know exactly what I'm worth And it's more than you deserve So don't you forget it Still you keep on getting it wrong Trying to prove it all night long Can't do right for doing wrong Might as well go ahead I'll take you from where you are To ride upon a shooting star Come so close, we'll go so far When amber turns to red One little word, four letters L.O.V.E. spells love I'll show you what it's made of Don't ever stop I'm gonna take you high Right up to the mountain top Press against the sky And when you hit the drop I'm gonna show you why L.O.V.E. spells love You got it tattooed on your fist But I don't think you understand Exactly what it is when on the other hand You got hate I know you've got a lot to learn So get in line and take your turn Smouldering a long' slow burn I hope it's worth the wait Maybe you're bad for me But somehow I knew that it had to be The best things in life don't come for free You always have to pay One little word, four letters L.O.V.E. spells love I'll show you what it's made of
That weekend in Spring when we'd had just about enough Booked a flight for Charles de Gaulle and then we just took off Aznavour records on a battered old Dansette My love for Edith I know I will not regret That look upon your face I will never forget The moment we arrived We went to Paris to look at art Stayed in a hotel close to Montmartre You Simone de Beauvoir and me Jean-Paul Sartre Such an existential pair The Champs Elysees in the rain Revolutionary bookshops on the left bank of the Seine Buskers on the Place de Magdelene And the steps of the Sacre Coeur You looking sober and unamused While I'm hungover and emotionally abused You struck there match that sparked a fire in my soul Watched in wonder as the flames burned out of control Call out the Gendarme notify Interpol It was the time of our lives Two nights in Paris that was the start Of something special there in Montmartre Like Jean-Luc Goddard and his Bande Aparte We were a law unto ourselves The Mona Lisa I bet she was a pain Yann Thierson and the Strokes the ear worms in my brain Window shopping Hermes, we saw Shakeira Caine And she looked like something else Living a fantasy straight out of Amelie More than magically real Michelin restaurants Pigalle debutantes The night we stormed the Bastille The Champs Elysees in the rain Revolutionary bookshops on the left bank of the Seine Busking on the Place de Magdelene and the steps of the Sacre Coeur Yes you and I were there
Hey Gina Since we said goodbye It's been so many years but my tears won't dry I still miss you And the way it used to be Honey How I wish you Were still going out with me Cos every Friday night never looked so bright As the ones we spent under the Casino lights I think about you I put my records on I'm sitting here without you My backdrop days long gone Hey Gina If we could go back in time To the days when you were mine In the summer of 75 It felt good to be alive Before the 80s came around And then everything changed The whole world got shut down And now it's happening again You got your talcum powder Music on the right speed What more do you need Hey Gina Now I'm beaten and broke At the other end of the kaleidoscope I shake the pieces But nothing seems to fit So many new releases But not a single hit Hey Gina Vavas, Catacombes Chateau Impney Twisted Wheel, Golden Torch, Blackpool Tiffanys Hear Roger Wynstanley playing Little Anthony Till Ian Levine quit the scene We saw and eagle fly so high Hey Gina
For all that's gone before What fate might hold in store For this whole world and more Devil may care The hand of history The spear of destiny The fear of what may be Devil may care Risking it all on one roll of the dice Ready to pay the ultimate price Devil may care what you do with your life But God knows I will sacrifice Whatever it takes To keep you safe From the damage this world can do When the shadows fall on you Truth or dare Rigged or fair On the level You're so devil may care
There's only ever been one cause worth fighting for It's them or us We pay their bills we wage their wars In Lord Kitchener's army Sat up in their gilded halls They know they've got us by the balls But if we spit together boys They'd drown in the tsunami And it's time we woke up And said enough is enough Born to serve, born to rule By the time you've finished school You know which doors open to you And which slam in your face The good life's not won by degrees Even if you can afford the fees Your free to starve, you're free to freeze You'd better know your place And it's time we woke up And said enough is enough And they're trying to breathe life into a corpse It's as if the market eats and drinks and walks You can smell the decay every time they say There is no other way, but it's you that's got to pay Every day and every day and every other day So if you're marching off to war Know what it is you're fighting for So them as have can get some more The rest can all go hungry From food banks to army camps There's discontentment in the ranks time to say no more no thanks To God and queen and country Cos it's time we rose up, said enough is enough
Close my Eyes I see your face before me almost everywhere But it comes as no surprise In my mind all the time You're there, you're there Walking round I see you passing by me in every crowd And I call your name out loud Though it's not you It's still true You're there, you're there And this kind of thing never happened to me before And whether it's good or bad I really can't be sure But who needs to care It's you, you're there When I sleep Images of you drift into my dreams There's no escape it seems I can't hide what's inside You're there And it's something that's happening So completely unplanned More than just a feeling Too much to try to understand And I don't know if this is how I want to stay So mixed up inside I could try to break away But I wouldn't dare when you, you're there
Hyped up folk song to be found in a vastly different form way down the back catalogue.
Caught you looking then Better hide your eyes As if you still don't know me After all the things you told me Something shimmering in the evening skies Gave me reason to believe in The way that I was feeling Cos you make me catch my breath Until there is nothing left at all While you feel the summer sun making fools of everyone I will still be here long after they have gone When the nights are growing long and the winter's drawing on I will still be here when they are long gone There I go again way to serious When all you need is laughter Not the silence that comes after So I still pretend nothing matter much When all I long to hear you say Is that everything's okay Cos you turn this world around Till I feel I'm falling down again When your dreams all turn to stone and desert you one by one I will still be here long after they have gone When the time has finally come and you're sure of what you want I will still be here when they are long gone No-one could ever feel the way that I do today And if forever is as long as it takes I'm willing to wait If you feel you need someone when the fooling round is done I will still be here long after they have gone When your darkest hour has come you don't have to be alone I will still be here when they are long gone
I could go out and conquer this whole land I would be the king in my country I could move a mountain with just one hand But if you happen to be counting upon me Better wait until tomorrow We'll see how it goes Wait until tomorrow Tomorrow never knows You ask how long will I wait Will it be long enough That's a good question In fact it's pretty tough I say I'll wait forever But forever has begun So I'll wait until tomorrow never comes I would ride the footplate of my own train Be the hero in everything I do I could knock down the world and build it up again In seven days give or take a week or two But I'll wait until tomorrow We'll see what it brings There'll always be tomorrow If there's anything
There's no way out It could be running right through you now Scream and shout For all the good it'll do you I could sit and cry If I could find some emotional tie I curse the day I met you I never should have let you get close to me One day it's gonna get you Cos you're a dead certainty Innocent blood Caught up in the ebb and flow Of that guilty flood From Amsterdam to San Francisco You took my whole world And sent it rocketing skywards I curse the day I met you I never should have let you get close to me One day it's gonna get you Cos you're a dead certainty Waiting for the breakdown The beginning of the end sure is a long way down No freedom's a loaded gun And I'm staring down the barrel at everyone I know There's know way out You might as well believe in every cure You read about And find something worth living for I just sit and cry I don't event know the reason why
There's a light on the water But it shines from above So it's just a reflection How can you say that it's love Feel that feeling of wonder Faint impression of joy On the surface or under You're a beautiful toy I could fee the change coming So I needed to talk Why do I keep on running Long before I can walk something makes me feel the way I do Is it because you feel the same way too It coincides and so we call it love Is that what this illusion's of There's a time for loving and a time for need There's a time for giving and another for greed So forgive my intrusion into your very soul But it's just an illusion that we all like to hold
Influenced by a great artist and a wonderful album.
Sometimes I feel so lonely I guess we're all wrapped up in ourselves And that's the reason why Sometimes I cry and nobody seems to notice Here in the 21st Century We've come so far, yes I must agree We used to kill each other with our bare hands It's so much easier now But I don't understand Is it real? Or just the way I am That makes me feel Like a stranger in a strange land Going nowhere making no plans Like I've built my life on sand And the tide is rushing in too fast No matter what I do it won't turn back Kick the dust off my shoes again Find myself another town But then what if the people are still the same Guess there's somebody knew to blame Here and now in the modern world We're still stood around with our flags unfurled We can reach up high We can touch the stars But can we save ourselves We can't see that far Oh is it real Or just the way we are that makes me feel Like a stranger in a strange land Going nowhere making no plans Like I've build my life on sand And the tide is rushing in too fast No matter what I do it won't turn back And if we're all a part of God's great big family Well where does that leave me? Up against a wall, trying to make some sense of it all
Do you ever wonder why Time just seems to trip on by With so much on our side Still nothing's been changed We could take opposing views But I'm not in the mood No simple shift in attitude's That easily arranged Between us, we could change the world we know Between us, we could make it grow Between us, we could expand the universe, Between us, we could do much worse You run round and chase your tail To feed the world and save the whale You tell yourself that you can't fail It's an emergency Me I just like sitting here Drinking in the atmosphere As clouds appear and disappear There's no urgency Between us, there's a gulf an ocean wide, Between us, the greatest of divides Between us, disharmony, disunity Between us, a veil of apathy and we could do so much If we could only find some direction Just reach out a hand to touch And make that vital connection In every bar in every town Party people gather round Making love and falling down With nothing much to say Life's a string of non-events That don't make any sense Feeling sweet indifference That's the only way
I'd reach out to you But you'd turn away I thought I knew you But I'm not so sure today Cos I never know what's on your mind When you change it oh so many times Don't know what I will find So I tell you all these stupid things And try to pull on your heartstrings While your eyes are softly shining You sparkle like a diamond and you Dazzle me You know you do Dazzle me I'd hang on for you if say the word There's nothing else to do So it's not all that absurd Would you stay with me for a little while Would you grow accustomed to my smile And my lack of style I'm over here and incomplete Don't you know you've swept me off my feet And I stumble like a blind man When you sparkle like a diamond Cos you dazzle me, you know you do Dazzle me Don't know what to do or say Words keep getting in my way So I treasure each coincidence Deep meaning insignificance In all these chance events And I have to call your name out loud Then like starlight bursting through a cloud I see a silver lining When you sparkle like a diamond And you dazzle me, you know you do Dazzle me
Saw your wife and kid today She told me they were going away And that they'd be a long time gone So could I pass this message on Set the alarm and check the window locks Take care of every shiny black box That we bought on credit terms With all the money we didn't earn I know I said I'd stay for rich or for poor But I can't take it anymore There's got to be a better way Of getting through another day Than putting my head in the sand And staying here in metroland You started off with such high hopes But now your backed against the ropes All your glory days are past Now the next blow could be the last You made your vows and lived the dream You've ended up a might have been Who nave stopped to count the cost Now what you never you had, you've lost You never thought you'd live from hand to mouth Looking for the first way out there's got to be a better way Of getting through another day than tearing up each last demand And clinging onto Metroland Another Pleasant Valley Sunday The bailiffs took your car away Your passport's been revoked, Yeah you've been banned From staying here in status symbol land Get out of here by sundown Don't want to see your face around find some place else to make your stand You don't belong in Metroland
Every picture tells a story Every camera hides a lie A thousand visions dance before me See her as she passes by She's the face that you see yourself in The madwoman behind the wheel She's unreal She's the prisoner in the attic Beauty that the eye beholds Turn her on it's automatic Sit her down at your controls She's the angel of inspiration A cooling breeze you can only feel She's unreal Feel the flame The eye inside the hurricane In ebbs and flows She comes and goes From there to where nobody knows Every life's a work of fiction Everybody plays a part From opulence to dereliction Every day's a work of art She's the gift of imagination The darkest secret you can reveal She's unreal
The last thing I want is to see you cry So don't cry But I won't be happy if you say goodbye Please don't try But if that's what you want for me to let you go I won't be the one to say no So don't use me as a weak excuse For not doing all the things you want to do Please believe me when I say I won't stand in your way But I will always watch you I promise I will keep Guard over you As angels guard your sleep And should you fall, I'll catch you And carry you from harm And heaving oceans I will calm The last thing I want is to fence you in I can't win But you could be throwing away everything It's a sin But if that is your wish then follow wherever it leads I will acquiesce to your needs So don't tell me I'm tearing you apart I only have your best interests at heart If you want a hell to pay I won't stand in your way
My heart's in an elevator going down She says I'll see you later she means I'll see you around I could be on a promise so so what She says she's being honest but she's not When I'm left wondering what it's all about What the hell is it for A head full of ache and a heart full of doubt This one thing's for sure She's got it all worked out I hate the way I'm never in control Of the spark that starts a fire in my soul She says we'll be together but we won't I guess I should know better but I don't When I'm left guessing if I'm in with a shout Or she'll show me the door She's not messing anybody about Cos she knows the score She's got it all worked out You got it made you got it made You name the place and time You change your mind each day I got it bad I got it bad You're driving me mad My heart's in a paper cup so it seems She says I'll call you up She means yeah, like in your dreams I'm happy just to let her lead me on She's here today tomorrow she's be gone Leave me standing with my head in the clouds And my heart on the floor But I'm not bothered what it's all about I don't care anymore She's got it all worked out
You walk in and their hearts all miss a beat Cos you're the girl that the whole world wants to meet Heads turn when you walk by hearts burn and you know why They're eating out of your hand They love you Marianne When I met you you seemed like the ideal girl And what wouldn't I do to get you into my world Morning, noon and night I wouldn't let you out off my sight Obsessive as I am It was you Marianne Should have known that you'd break my heart in tow Should have know there's be nothing I could do Guess I should never have placed any faith in dreams When nothing's what it seems Whatever that means Shout to the world that your secret's out Like to tell them all what it's all about Imagine the tears they'd cry If they knew you were really a guy But I don't give a damn I love you Marianne You're still my girl Marianne
Every day of my life I wake up wanting I only want what I can't have My sad excuse is a human nature That makes it good to be bad You got it all but you still want more There's always something else to keep on wishing for You hit the peak and you're still subdued Well it all depends upon your attitude Yeah it's your attitude And every night there could be someone Not out of reach who'll keep in touch But you stay in your ivory tower And say it doesn't matter much She gives it all but you still want more From someone that you never had before Blame the time you can blame the mood Blame everything except your attitude Can't be your attitude You know it's easy to make it hard To make something out of nothing You try to please me well please yourself You don't need my help you don't need nobody else You're given money and you're given love No matter what you got it's never quite enough You got the whole world on your side But you know you'll never be satisfied Your sense of guilt and your sense of grace Bids you welcome back to the human race It's not the way it's run it's more the way it's viewed And that all depends upon your attitude You got an attitude
Wham influenced Motown, or vice versa. I'd do it all in the name of love There is no sin or crime I could not be found guilty of I'll take my changes I'm not so insecure Once I was helpless But now I know the score We got a good thing We got what love should be This is the one thing That I can guarantee And I really don't mind if you stay for a while If you need anything you just call And if a lifetime's what you got in mind Then I really don't mind at all I'd do it all again if I could I don't have one regret Although some people think I should When you are with me My feelings take control The love you give me Sets fire to my soul And I owe it all to you Cos you should me what real love can do And it's alright with you and me Cos everything happens naturally
You say we had a revolution Well where did it go to What you tried to change still remains But now it's owned and run by you What happened to all that you were And promised that you'd be Did you just pretend to care And none of us could see What happened wasn't meant to be Well you can play James Dean on the TV But one day you'll grow old Cos only the good die when they should And get to save a little soul What happened to the promises You broke so easily Did you just pretend to care and none of us could see What happened didn't have to be Don't you know I've watched your every move I think I know where you went wrong Was it when you lost that spark of truth That marked you out as someone So you can make out you're John Lennon But you won't win hearts and minds Only the truly great suffer the hand of fate And get to leave their mark behind What happened to all of the faith You shattered do easily Was it all in vain, was it all misplaced And none of us could see what happened I's history, ancient history
Well hey, how are you today Me I'm doing fine Haven't seen you lately Guess it's hard to find the time To look where I'm going Think what I'm gonna do Some call it growing But you Fade Away so far away Like the sun on a cold December day We change our hearts We change our minds and leave each other far behind So how's business Did you finally find what you were looking for Oh is that right You're not searching any more Well I know this is a cruel world You must face up to reality It's alright for you But me I'll fade away so far away Like the sun On a cold December day We change our lives We change our hearts Turn aside and drift apart So I'll see you later Be sure now that you call Or maybe not at all Fade away so far away Like the sun on a cold December day We change our hearts We change our minds And leave each other far behind
Just another crazy mixed up kid That's how they explained away everything he did He's living for his own self Living in his own world He doesn't want our help Cos he doesn't think we care Give him a couple of months to work things out Give him a chance to find what life is all about Then take him out of his shell Bring him into our world then we can soon tell If this kid is going anywhere But in his mind he can fly And float along rivers long run dry But what can you do when they're closing in on you What can you say when they take it all away When all the fools rush in to give away their time They leave the pieces of their dreams On walls too high to climb It's no-ones fault, shit happens But when it does, don't let your heart get broken Don't let it steal your should away Just another crazy mixed up kid That's how they explained away everything he did
