Welcome to our show, everyone. In today's episode, we'll delve into the crucial aspects of end-of-life tasks and estate preparation. These are not just mundane tasks, but they hold significant importance in our lives, whether you've thought about them or not.
Before you press end and leave, I invite you to stay tuned for insights into this very interesting and often difficult problem. It's inevitable, and you cannot imagine the profound impact it can have as we navigate grief and support our loved ones whilst doing the two planning sessions.
When end-of-life matters are left unaddressed, families can face unexpected rifts and challenges. This is especially true when the burden falls on the named executor to decipher the wishes of their loved ones. So, I hope you're still with us and join my guest, Adam Zuckerman, as we explore this significant and thoughtful preparation and its role in fostering unity and clarity during difficult times.
As I mentioned, our guest, Adam, is a lawyer and businessman who's had personal experience with this topic. I believe this gave him the vision to create this online platform to support others.
He is indeed the founder of Buried in Work and brings a wealth of expertise to guide us through the essential steps requiring preparation for what's in front of each one of us.

Hello, listeners, and welcome to another episode of our grief journey. Today, we will discuss with our guest, Dr. Julie Kaplow, how we can better support children and adolescents undergoing grief.
You'll learn that children's and youth's grief is unique, and it's through Dr. Kaplow's pioneering work has led to the development of evidence-based interventions such as multidimensional grief therapy, or MGT.
Dr. Kaplow is an expert in childhood trauma and bereavement, and she is the executive director of the Trauma and Grief Children's Center in New Orleans.
I understand that there's a 300-plus-person waitlist for this bereavement care. Now, that has me thinking: If this is just one state and these are the numbers, can you imagine what those waitlist numbers are worldwide?

Hello, and welcome to our podcast today. We will delve into the intriguing world of grief recovery and human connection. In today's episodes, we will explore a fictional book called Making Up the Gods, which is our guest Marion Agnew's latest book. I believe it was released later last year.
Making Up the Gods is a book about three grieving strangers: a widow, a young boy, and a middle-aged alcoholic. The book is set as a novel in Northern Ontario, and it will be interesting to see how the author has woven into the guest's journey as each navigates their grief.
This is the first time we're delving into grief in a fictional way, and it'll be interesting to see how the author has navigated it. The novel examines the past that can keep us from living in the future, which we know only too well for many of those on our own grief journeys, and how it's so easy to get caught up in the past.
I'm interested to see how the twists and turns of this unfold as they release their fears and hopefully teach us how we can release our own and move forward. So, I'm delighted to speak to our guest, Marion Agnew, from Northern Ontario. I'm quite envious that she has Lake Superior in her backyard.
This is Marion's second book. Her first one was Reverberations, A Daughter's Meditation on Alzheimer's.

Hello, dear listeners. Thank you for joining us today as we continue our grief journey. Today, we're going to be delving into divorce. And it's a subject I don't know if society or we readily acknowledge that the pain and grief experienced when a marriage ends can often be the same sort of emotions as when there's a death of a spouse or a death of a relationship.
And it's not readily recognized that divorce is indeed a death. It's a death of the dreams and hopes the couple had. So, yes, there's the intense pain. Because I don't believe society recognizes it as grief, the person going through a divorce doesn't have the same support or comfort that you would get or expect if it were indeed the death of a person.
There are no rituals, no comfort, and limited support. The person going through the divorce can feel isolated and alone. It's not as simple as finding a new partner. The desire isn't for somebody new but for the one we had.
So, the journey of divorce is both complex and deeply emotional. And it goes far beyond just seeking a replacement. And if there are children involved, it can create custody battles, and it can be traumatic no matter what age the child is.
Now, our guest today, I'm certain, remembers only too well the emotional rollercoaster of grief when his marriage ended 45 years ago.
Why discuss this now? Well, listeners, please stay with me; you'll understand more soon. Our guest is Vernon Baumrind, a father, grandfather, and successful businessman in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He's also the author of a book called Deceit. It's a true story of domestic infidelity and betrayal with details recorded by a wiretap!

Welcome, listeners, to another episode, as we continue once more our journey to explore the depths of grief, love, and the human spirit. Today, we'll discuss their journey into the award-winning documentary “Meet Me Where I Am” with our guests.
The film explores the many nuances and complexities of grief that individuals grapple with. It may be a little word, but it's mighty powerful when it arrives. The film brings together these nuances and, I believe, normalizes grief.

Our guest will have wisdom nuggets that will apply to everyone. So please stay with us!
I am thrilled to chat again with Debra Woog, a crisis navigation partner with 30+ years of experience as a leadership researcher, executive, and advisor. About Debra:
I’m Debra Woog (pronounced like “Vogue”). I work from my home office in Arlington, MA, as my two terrific teenagers attend school. By nature, I am a connector and a community builder. Connection and community are essential in a crisis. As a leader who has navigated my own unanticipated challenges, I know first-hand the value of smart, collaborative expertise, especially for women who feel solo in life or work. As supremely capable as we are, we are even better when we cross difficult roads together.
With a B.A. in psychology from Wellesley College and an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management, I am able to provide both emotional and practical underpinnings for problem-solving, including research, resource matching, and communication strategy. I’m here for you.

Hello listeners, thank you for joining us. We'll discuss end-of-life conversations and their importance. I hope you agree that you need to be aware of this!
However, I am certain others will think, "Oh, I don't need to listen to this. I don't need this yet." Please, before you go, I would love you to stick around just a little bit longer to hear what my guest, Jonathan Fleece, has to say about his company, Empath Health, one of the country's largest not-for-profit health systems, delivering non-acute care services in the US.
There is also a link to a newly released film called Suncoast. Jonathan is the Empath president and, as I've mentioned, a CEO. I'm looking forward to discussing how this organization and the unique connection came about.

Welcome everyone to our heartfelt space, where we weave hope, wisdom, compassion, and an understanding into the fabric of our conversation about one of life's most profound challenges - grief and loss. We recognize that few experiences come as deeply as the pain of losing a loved one, especially when the loss comes at the hand of a silent battle with inner demons.
Today, we're going to be stepping into that realm often shrouded in silence and taboo, the heart-wrenching topic of suicide.
We're engaging in a candid conversation with Dr. Keith McNally, whose multifaceted life story includes surviving suicide, as well, if that wasn't enough, a heart attack. Among his many pursuits, now, he is aiming to support suicide survivors, as well as their families.
Our guest has a diverse professional background as a social worker, a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, and a survivor's testimony. He also brings a wealth of insight into the labyrinth of human suffering and resilience. And I'd love you to warmly welcome Dr. Keith McNally to our show today!

Welcome to our podcast, dear listeners. I'm Anne, your host. And today, we have a really thought-provoking topic to delve into - suicide. And I'm privileged to have Lisa Sugarman as our guest. Lisa is an incredible parenting author, a syndicated columnist, and a survivor herself of suicide loss. Lisa is also a crisis counselor with the Trevor Project.
We recognize that suicide, unfortunately, is a tragic occurrence that can leave us feeling bewildered and grappling for the answers that question why seems almost impossible to comprehend and leaves families with lasting trauma and torment. In their grief, families may even harbor a sense of responsibility, believing they could have somehow prevented it. To shed some light on this distressing subject and gain, as I mentioned, a deeper understanding of the increasing rates of suicide, I now turn to our esteemed guest, Lisa.

Welcome listeners to the Let's Talk About Grief Podcast. Our topic today is slightly different from where we normally go. But it's equally as important. It's about divorce.
All too often, the person going through a divorce doesn't recognize the emotional turmoil. Their feeling is that of grief. The relationship is over, but a death hasn't occurred. But indeed, a death has. We just don't speak about it in those terms. It's the death of dreams and hopes of a future with that person that actually dies, that are happy ever after expectations are gone.
And our society doesn't help us either! All too often, people will shy away from people grieving a death. So it isn't surprising that there isn't much support given to somebody going through a divorce.
I know, going through my own many years ago, it was often suggested that: "I'd be better off without the person" or "just go out; you're young enough. You can find another". Looking back on those comments, it made me feel my marriage was disposable instead of a commitment that we had both once made.
I'm absolutely thrilled to have our guest, Velma Gallant, with us today, who's going to be discussing this topic with me. Velma is the divorcee herself who now helps professional women return to joy, using her propriety heart compass method, and is a co-host of a TV show called Heart-repreneur.

Welcome, listeners, to another Let's Talk About Grief podcast episode. This is where we often dive deep into the profound emotions and transformative power of navigating our grief.
Our topic today is about multiple deaths and losses experienced within a short period of time. How does someone find the strength even to catch their breath and resurface amidst the receding waters of grief, only to be hit by subsequent waves of sorrow? I'm certain our next guest may have some answers. I'm really honored to have Theo Boyd as our guest.
Now, a little about Theo: she's a writer, and I understand she often writes poems with her dad. She learned many hardships from her mom. She was a high school teacher teaching English and Creative Writing and continues to write as a guest columnist for several local newspapers. And she's also a podcast host herself. Theo's story is depicted in a very heartfelt memoir, My Grief Is Not Like Yours.
Learning to live unimaginable loss is a testament to resilience, faith, and the indomitable human spirit. We will certainly dive into her book, where I know she bears her soul, sharing these unimaginable events that unfolded in her world!

On the show today, we’re going to be discussing a rather contentious, difficult topic, but it is one that Canada adopted. We’re going to be talking today about assisted suicide – and that’s when a person chooses their exit. How does the person’s decision affect their family? And how does their family cope with moving through the grief? These are just a few of the questions that we’ll be discussing with our guest today.
We have Collin Kingsmill with us, and he’s willing to share his experience. Collin was a successful banker in Switzerland, where he lived with his family. And he’s since moved, leaving everything behind. He now resides on Canada’s east coast. He also is a successful transformational coach. And we’ll also be hearing how he made that switch!

She is also somebody who has personally experienced the loss of her mother. And this is certainly a club no one chooses to join. But it's important to shed light on the many challenges it can bring because it's not only the death itself, but it's many of the secondary losses.
We'll also be diving into her new book that will be coming out, Moving On Doesn't Mean Letting Go: A Modern Guide to Navigating Loss.

As you know, we've often spoken about the death of a parent before on our podcast. And today we're continuing with this discussion. And this one centers around the time of COVID. And how that impacted on a family or a person's ability to feel the grief and be supported.

Today we’re going to be talking about unresolved grief. Grief can be sneaky, and it often shows up when we least expect it. That’s why it’s important to know the events behind the grief to understand its nature.
But we experience grief in many different forms throughout our lives. Unfortunately, we don’t always recognize or have the language to understand or communicate these emotions. It’s not uncommon for a few unfortunate events to snowball into something much more serious, like illness or depression. And this is why it’s so important to recognize that grief can come in many different forms and offer support to those who may be experiencing it, even if it isn’t death related.
I am excited to introduce you to Judy Lipson, who herself has survived the loss of two sisters, and has lived with unprocessed emotions for 30 years. In 2011, Judy founded Celebration of Sisters, an annual ice-skating fundraiser to commemorate the lives of her two sisters, Jane and Margie. In this episode, we’re with William Peters. He talks about the idea of a shared death experience and why we should reevaluate our views on death and the afterlife.
Here’s what we talk about:
● How COVID has changed people’s views about death and dying
● Recognizing death as both a natural process and a human experience
● What is the shared death experience?
● The difficulty of receiving near-death experiences in medical science
● Acceptance of death and the afterlife
● Do we need a near-death experience to have a shared death experience?
● The transformative power of seeing your loved one in another dimension.
About William Peters:
William is a licensed psychotherapist and is the Founder of the Shared Crossing, and the Director of the Shared Crossing Research Initiative (SCRI), Project.
William has been studying the end of life for nearly two decades and after nearly one thousand case studies, thousands of hours of interviews, and collecting and quantifying data, one theme emerged: repeated examples of a connection felt by the living person to the deceased at or around the moment of death, which fundamentally changes their understanding of death and dying. These moments are identified as "shared death experiences", and what they tell us is that none of us is leaving this earth alone
He is recognized by many as the world’s leading authority on the shared death experience (SDE). William and his team have created a user-friendly guide to assist the dying, caregivers, and healthcare professionals in navigating and understanding phenomena that can manifest at end of life.
William conducts workshops and presents internationally. He recently presented at the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Annual Conference. His innovative work has been featured on CNN Online among other media outlets. William’s book entitled At Heaven’s Door: What Shared Journeys to the Afterlife Teach About Dying Well and Living Better were published worldwide by Simon & Schuster in January 2022.
William continues his practice as a licensed psychotherapist at the Family Therapy Institute in Santa Barbara. He has served as a Zen Hospice volunteer and his work is informed by his two near-death experiences and a variety of shared death experiences.

In this episode, we’re with Rich Allen. He talks about his book, his experiences with his father’s loss, ways of dealing with his grief, and a lot more.
Here’s what we talk about:
· Rich’s experience with dealing with the loss of his father
· Watching a loved one’s last breath
· Going through grief through the support of family
· Using the “busyness” of life to cope with grief
· Rich doing his father’s eulogy. He didn’t want to let his dad down.
· The value of learning about your loved one while they’re here.
· Being aware of signs. Your loved ones may be trying to get in touch.
About Rich Allen:
I was born and raised in Liverpool, a working-class city in England in the United Kingdom. When I was growing up, money was sparse in Liverpool, but it didn't seem to affect the citizens or my family. What they lacked in wealth was made up for with an abundance of kindness, an enormous sense of humor, and the selfless willingness to help others. Something that has never changed, and I doubt it ever will, is that the citizens of my childhood hometown are very witty with a hint of sarcasm. Trust me, that is not their intention. Everyone loves to make fun of each other and they know not to take anything too seriously—unless it’s about football (soccer).
Having lived a life with so much kindness and humor makes it all the more difficult when you have to deal with losing a loved one. The one staying behind is filled with so many emotions, including guilt, remorse, anger, and heartache. No two people will express or have the same emotions.
I have been fortunate enough to work for some of the world's largest corporations and have met a great many wonderful people giving me some amazing memories. But having recently lost my Father and Father In-law, I have decided to leave the corporate world and I'm now on a journey of writing books about losing a loved one.
I come from a religious family, and hold strong religious beliefs but I'm also open-minded, and as strong as my faith is, I also lean upon logic, facts, and common sense. At the early age of 16, I had a longing to become a priest but it never came to pass. My parents were shocked at the time but my life went in a different direction.
Mother, Father, Brother, or Sister, even your family pet, no matter who they are, the loss of a loved one leaves us with pain and grief that can never truly be explained. Our life has changed forever, and we now have a new normal, and it's one that we don't very much care for.
I believe that each and every one of us goes through life in a unique and special way. Whether we realize it or not, we are shown messages and signs, given skills and gifts, all of which can help us through the good times and bad. I hope to write and share with you not only my experiences but also share the research I have completed and the interviews I have conducted.
May your God go with you.

Grief is very patient, chose not to deal with it and grief fades into the background waiting patiently. Some life events may happen that cause you to finally face it as my guest Sherrie Dunlevy did.
Through her life experiences, no matter how many deaths and losses she has experienced, she firmly believes that it's a choice to live life as a victim or to find a way for healing to occur.
Although each loss was different she knew if she allowed herself to grieve fully she'd find her way back to her life, more resilient and compassionate than before.

Life as we know it changes with death but when a sibling dies, the survivor often has to navigate these changes alone. Society doesn't recognize their need to grieve and will often ask "how their parents are doing?" Leaving them feeling their grief isn't as important, they aren't supported in the same way.
Often surviving siblings feel responsible for supporting their parents and doing all they can, and they push their grief aside.
Sibling loss and grief is every bit real, please don't ignore them but ask how they are doing?
What helps is openly communicating and speaking about the death as a family. This creates comfort and connection for all.

There have been so many deaths and losses during this Covid time, while many are grieving their morning commute and the disruptions of their familiar routines.
There are others who have lost loved ones and struggle with unattended grief because they didn't get an opportunity for final goodbyes nor have any support during that difficult period.
During difficult times like this, it's important not just as individuals but also as communities and workplaces to come together. There has been so much death and loss which means everyone needs some kindness and a listening ear. It's time to connect to one another through our humanity & certainly workplaces can help.
The best way to help a grieving person is by being there for them. For Businesses and Leaders, it's important that they recognize and value their employees and be understanding towards their needs during difficult times so they can get back on track with being productive.
