I DJ and produce music. But mostly I work as a music researcher.
Currently employed in this project: https://www.suoni.fi/musiikintutkijat-yhteiskunnassa
I used to host a radio show for ten years on the semi-national Basso radio station in Finland (https://www.mixcloud.com/boomshakalaka/) and I was involved in organising the weekly Afro Sunday club in Helsinki for five years (http://instagram.com/afrosundayhelsinki/).
Mostly DJ mixes and individual remixes here. I hope one day to have more time to make music.
A guest mix I recorded for Zlow & Low in 2015. More info here: https://www.mixcloud.com/zlow-and-low/zlow-low-emil-010/

Mad Ice is a singer-songwriter, who crosses genre boarders with the music he performs in English, Swahili and Luganda. He rose to fame in his native Uganda and throughout East Africa with his debut studio album and title single Baby gal, which topped the charts in 2003–2004. In 2005, his single, Wange, also debuted at number one in the region.
In recent years Mad Ice has captured world music stages mostly with his "afro-soul", but the single Delilah is a return to his dancehall roots. DJ Emil makes the already smooth Delilah an even smoother dancehall love song, with some additional elements from kizomba and a live cavaquinho guitar riff.

In January 2015, Finnish bhangra outfit Shava released Ostarilla, which is a simple love song where the story takes place on a freezing day in a suburban shopping mall. Now if Finnish Bhangra is not a multicultural enough concept, they released a set of remixes of the song done in UK, Poland and Finland, in styles ranging from moombahton to bollywood disco to afrobeats, and throw a Cuban rapper into the mix - that's internationalism! DJ Emil's afrobeats inspired remix here as instrumental version.

A quick kizomba edit I put together for a set a played for some kizomba dancers this summer.
Mirkka & Madrugada @mirkkamadrugada ... previously known as Banda Madrugada, founded in 2006, is a Helsinki based group playing Brazilian forró music. The band performs their own original compositions in Finnish and Portuguese, along with some of the best work by Brazilian artists, such as Falamansa and Luiz Gonzaga. Their style is an unique blend of forró from Northeast Brazil, deep reggae and dub bass lines, and a hint of Finnish humppa.
DJ Emil ... is a club dj, radio host, ethnomusicologist and music producer with a passion for Caribbean, African, Latin and Brazilian music and club cultures that incorporate local folklore in different forms. Together with the Boom shakalaka collective, he runs a biweekly radio show on semi national urban radio station Basso in Finland, focusing on dance music and club cultures from different parts of the world. As a producer, Emil has, apart from releasing a body of official and bootleg remixes in different genres, through his label Maasto Records, been involved in launching the genre ‘baltik bass’, where folklore from the Baltic sea region meet the urban dance floor.
