Episode 38
What is anxiety??
Well that's an extremely nuanced subject and it's obviously extremely hard to answer especially in a short Podcast episode.
What is a little easier to explain is what happens to you on a biological level when you suffer from this often debilitating condition.
Once you understand the mechanism of action involved you will have a much better understanding on what you can do to manage it.
Whether you suffer from anxiety, stress, panic attacks or you are just generally of a nervous disposition having this understanding really can help you to mitigate the effects of anxiety disorder and in many cases you can even solve the problem completely.
It's all about managing your nervous system, something which we all have the power to control with just a few simple breathing exercises and the added bonus is that their effects are often immediate.
It's not only backed by science but by our very own biology.
Your nervous system is intrinsically linked to the way in which you breath. Most of the population allow their nervous system to dictate how they breathe and in turn how they feel, usually at their detriment.
Well, I'm here to tell that shouldn't be the case, we can reverse this issue and take control of our nervous system and in turn the way that we feel, simply by breathing with intention for 10-15minutes a day.
The positive health benefits really cannot be understated and it is my strong belief that everyone of us would benefit a great deal by adding this to our daily routine.

Episode 36 is an episode with a difference. Today as I went to upload my planned episode Apple photos had other ideas.
It suggested an old video that I posted on social media back in January 2023. Back then it led to some great engagement. It certainly got a few of my loyal followers thinking about life.
In the last 10years I have gone through an enormous shift in what I put importance on, don’t get me wrong I am extremely grateful to have had a successful career in my earlier adult life, it brought me a lot of materialistic rewards, but now it’s all about making memories, experiencing things that I love, spending time with my family and making tough decisions to ensure that happens.
life is not a dress rehearsal, there aren’t any do overs so make every moment count.

I wrote a series of articles last year on Substack about the state of modern medicine.
Surgery aside, I have always held a low opinion to mainstream mecicine, which is almost exclusively based on matching various pills and potions to whatever symptoms are being suffered.
This opinion hasn’t improved.
In this follow up podcast I discuss why I think it’s worse than I had originally thought as I ask the question, do doctors know that the system that they work in, is so broken?
Surely with their deep knowledge of the human body, along with the deteriorating health of the population they must know something is not right?

Most of us know at least one person that has suffered from skin cancer and while in todays modern world, prognosis is often very good and chances for recovery are high, I have always wondered how our ancestors coped, spending the lions share of their lives naked, unprotected and directly exposed to the elements
Over the years I have read a number of studies and articles that seem to suggest that sun tan lotions, or more accurately, their active ingredients, may pose potential health problems such as hormone disruption and since the arrival of my two young daughters and our relocation to a hot climate I decided to look deeper into the subject.
We already know that the sun gives us Vitamin D but can adequate vitamin D protect us free n the sun?
This weeks podcast episode is based on my own accidental 8 year personal study into this very possibility. Part meta analysis/part anecdotal controlled study, what I have found has certainly given me some food for thought.
I will say 1 thing, whether you ensure that you maintain adequate consumption of Vitamin D rich foods and consistent sun exposure or you take a high quality supplement, Vitamin D really is an absolute power house when it comes to our health, both for an optimised immune function but also for the proper workings of many functions around the body.

The problem is, most of us only know how to pick up a club and take a wild swing and this is no different when it comes to life.

In this episode, we delve into the critical distinction between symptom management and a functional approach to health and well-being. Using the analogy of a car's engine light, we ask the question: if your car's engine light comes on, would you simply switch off the light, or would you investigate the root cause of the issue?
Much like the engine light serves as an indicator of an underlying problem within the car, symptoms in our bodies often signify deeper health concerns. We explore how the current mainstream approach primarily focuses on symptom suppression rather than addressing the fundamental imbalances that lead to these symptoms.
By drawing parallels between our car's warning signs and our body's signals, we highlight the pitfalls of merely silencing symptoms without understanding their origins. This episode unravels why relying solely on symptom management can result in long-term health consequences and how adopting a functional approach is crucial for sustainable wellness.
Join us as we uncover the reasons behind the failure of the prevailing symptom-focused healthcare system and advocate for a shift towards a more comprehensive, functional approach to health and well-being. It's time to move beyond switching off warning lights and start investigating the root causes for lasting health and vitality.

Back in July 2020 I appeared on the AdapNation podcast to talk about the endocannabinoid system and medicinal cannabis. It was my first ever appearance on a podcast and I was expecting it to be filmed (I had only watched Joe Rogan at the time). As such I decided to do the entire podcast without any notes. In fairness I think I did a pretty good job, even if I did forget the name of the Grandfather or medicinal cannabis Raphael Mechoulam. There were a few other bits that I missed which bother me personally, but would only be noticed by the trained ear and all in all it was a great podcast which serves as a very good starting point for anyone interested in the subject. Obviously, my knowledge has grown considerably since and notes are rarely required these days, my confidence on podcasts and video content has also improved considerably along with my recording set up but I definitely recommend it to anyone that wants to know more about medicinal cannabis and the endocannabionoid system. It's long but it really does fly by and not a moment is wasted. I want to thank the host Steve Katasi for originally giving me the opportunity and for allowing me to post a copy of it on my own substack and podcast today. He was a great host, and I really enjoyed our conversations back then. It's a real shame that he no longer runs his podcast. He was extremely good at it and I miss him as a friend. This week…….back by popular demand…….its our good friend from the US of A, The Cannabis Cutie.
Due to the great response from our first show and the free flowing nature of our conversation we decided to have a follow up right away and there was certainly a lot to talk about.
This time around I spoke to Tammy about a very eventful month. First she was evacuated from her home due to the California forrest fires, then there was the small matter of the craziest US presidential election ever witnessed.
We may all have our opinions on it, but people like Tammy are living it everyday and it was great to hear her insight.
For the sake of balance, Tammy and I also wanted to discuss some of the potential negative effects of cannabis use. Most of the subjects we covered are more relevant to THC and while consumption may be illegal in the UK, there are still millions of cannabis users so its definitely worth a listen.
Tammy also talked about a number of exciting new projects she is currently working on and I highly recommend you follow her on social media and check it out.
For more information you can find Tammy on:
