Talk to the Band: Recent Episodes

Musical influences, tales from the road and stage, and the occasional ‘name dropping’ from the band members and session musicians who performed and recorded with ‘household’ name bands and artists.
This is the first episode, in a two part interview with Yolanda Charles, a UK musician and teacher who has played bass guitar with the likes of Paul Weller, David Stewart, Robbie Williams, Mick Jagger, Hans Zimmer and many more.
From July 2017 through early 2020 she was a member of Squeeze and has recently joined Sting’s live band with tour dates planned for 2021, and at the end of 2020 she .
was awarded the MBE for services to Music.

In this episode, we interview Alison Wheeler, female vocalist for The Beautiful South between 2003 and 2007. Since then, she’s been the female vocalist with The South, performing all over the UK and recording their album “Sweet Refrains”. In 2010, she recorded the track “Move a little closer” with John Windle of Little Man Tate, and she is also involved with the band The Topers and her own Jazz group Southern Beauty.

In this episode, we interview Robert Marlow, a UK keyboard player who started out in 1977 playing guitar in The Vandals with Alison Moyet, before joining The Plan with Vince Clarke. He and Vince were also in the band ‘French Look’ with Martin L. Gore from Depeche Mode, and in 1982, he recorded the solo album "The Peter Pan Effect" which featured the single “The Face of Dorian Gray”.

In this episode, we interview Russell Gilbrook, a UK Drummer, who started learning the drums when he was only four, he was depping West End shows at the age of 12 and touring Europe with Alan Price (of the Animals) when he was only 18. He performed on pop recordings with the likes of John Farnham, 5 Star, Boy Meets Girl, before joining “Chris Barber’s Jazz and Blues Band". But he’s best known for his hard hitting, high energy Rock drumming, and has been the drummer in legendary British rock band "Uriah Heep" since 2007.
