The construction work of West Kowloon Cultural District started in 2013. After the opening of M+ Pavilion and Xiqu Centre, Freespace will be open in 2019. Freespace situated in the centre of the Art Park, a place where the public is invited to freely explore, encounter and be inspired by new artistic experiences through innovative programming across all genres. Freespace includes a black box theatre and a great lawn, hoping audiences can enjoy indoor and outdoor performance at the same time. Before the opening of Freespace, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority organized many activities to establish international network with different arts group. The Authority hopes to provide more opportunities for local artists to create their own artwork. For example, the Authority established Asia Network for Dance (AND+), Tanzmesse 2018- Dance in Hong Kong, etc. The Authority hopes that more international and various performance can be held in Freespace.
