Hey, how're ya doing? Let's hang out, let's chat (note: that's me talking to myself, not to you, but while we're here; how're you doing?)
.
In this podcast I will get easily distracted, I will ramble and I'll make mistakes. It's all live, all real, all raw: not like wrestling, but I'll still try to come from the top rope and if you feel the need to bring a folding chair to the equation - so be it.
A very minor thesis; business cards should have more attention payed to them because they are free standing pieces of promotional art. They will be treated in the way they are perceived and 10,000 forgettable cards seems like intentional trash.
Even though I don't want to play this game, I appreciate that it exists and I'm enamored by the care, attention & detail. Maybe if you listen to this episode over and over again you'll gain a little bit more backstory & narrative, though it will still probably end rather abruptly because my free account only allows for 15 minutes max and that's the game.
I feel relieved, now that I've used the potty. I pee danced my way out of this episode and into a conversation about what sort of things we did 8 years ago. How weird we were. How strange we are now. Remember to feel better, remember to feel - she reminds me and adds with a wink 'if you're gonna riot you may as well riot twice' [note: she did not say the 2nd part, I added it because she also said that at one point; different conversations, but the same context. Not too unlike woreshersher and worechestershire.]
First, I stumble through an awkward intro for a couple beats too long and then I talk about a book. A book I read a year ago, but didn't care enough to reread for this episode. I found it in a drawer recently, long forgotten and I figured ' I could talk about this and then get rid of it'. I found a bookmark, an old notebook and then we close out some old Tabs. Midnight coffee, my friends, cold & bitter with just the slightest hint of regret.
I got onto Spotify and lost in my head. Now I'm trying to keep out of my way, if I can just stop over thinking. I had to get some sleep so I missed the party, but here's a song for you anyway (Brian Wilson by BNL). I think I forgot to mention any food, dang. Well, guess that box will have to get check next time.
I just realized that I'm not as good at things I feel great at, and that's okay. Like, when you grow up in a small town and then you move to a big city. I did that. I was so terrified of the tall buildings I didn't get off the city bus for more than an hour. Just soaking it in, worried I'd get lost. Now I have a partner & a kid and I feel more lost than ever in many aspects of my life, but that's okay. I believe in us.
I realize now that I didn't include any food talk in this episode. My groceries were pretty generic and we ate spinach stuffed ravioli for dinner. It was delightful.
.
I just had a conversation with a customer about her life for 30 minutes and I'm wondering if she would be on my show. Would that be fun? If I have a conversation with a real person does that ruin the facade of having conversations with myself? These are questions that could be answered, but my 10 minute break is up so I'll end this here.
I'm in a car and there's noise. I forget to introduce myself and I sound a little bit like I'm trying to have a similar meter to the host of Heavyweight. Last night Kim enjoyed my imitation of Jonathan (Johnathan?) And I wanted more compliments.
.
I also witnessed a car crash directly after recording this promo, so I put my phone down and vowed to not repeat this activity. Sorry, you're right, I should just focus on driving because you can't account for the other drivers.
.
To repeat: you are right and I was wrong. Soak it in.
A cold, but bright morning in the library parking lot. Smooth as a spreadable emulsion I chat my way into your hearts & subscription lists.
.
'How can you say no?' They ask, casually. Hands raised to the sky; shoulders, shrugged in a 'why not' gesture. Almost as if they actually think someone is listening or might respond.
.
Silence.
A bell rings.
The entertainment center is still here and still too big for the room. And yet, here we are.
.
Here's to hoping for more background music. Cheers.
