In the midst of overwhelming opposition, betrayal, and personal crisis, David's psalm reveals a transformative spiritual discipline: recognizing one's struggles before God, redirecting focus to God's character as shield, lifter of the head, and hearer of prayers, and resting in His sustaining grace. The sermon emphasizes that true peace does not come from the absence of problems but from the presence of God, who neither slumbers nor sleeps, and who ultimately vindicates His people through Christ's sacrificial death and resurrection. By adjusting the lens of our lives to center on God's faithfulness rather than our circumstances, believers are called to trust in His salvation, rely on His power, and proclaim that 'salvation belongs to the Lord'—not through human effort, but through the finished work of Jesus Christ, who was forsaken so that we might never be.

Psalm 2 reveals a cosmic conflict between the rebellious nations, driven by a desire for autonomy and hostility toward God's authority, and the sovereign rule of God, who laughs at their futile rebellion and declares His anointed King. Though the nations rage against God and His appointed ruler, the psalm unveils the ultimate resolution: God's plan is not destruction, but redemption through His Son, Jesus Christ, whom He has exalted as King and Savior. The psalm shifts from judgment to grace, calling all rulers and rebels to repentance, to serve the Lord with fear, to rejoice with trembling, and to 'kiss the Son' in submission, finding refuge and blessing in Him. This is the gospel: true freedom comes not in rejecting God's rule, but in embracing His King, who reigns with justice and offers salvation to all who take refuge in Him. The final word is not wrath, but invitation—eternal life for those who submit to Christ, the true King of kings.

Psalm 1 presents a profound contrast between two paths: the blessed life of the righteous, rooted in God's Word and yielding lasting fruit, and the fleeting, unstable existence of the wicked, destined for judgment and separation. The sermon emphasizes that this wisdom psalm foreshadows the Sermon on the Mount, revealing Jesus as the ultimate fulfillment of the righteous life—perfectly delighting in, meditating on, and living out God's law. It calls believers to self-examination, rejecting worldly counsel and associations that compromise holiness, while embracing a life of affection for Scripture, constant meditation, and faithful obedience. The good life is not achieved by moral effort but by grace through Christ, who lived it perfectly, died the cursed death of the wicked on the cross, and offers His righteousness to all who turn to Him. Ultimately, the choice is clear: walk in the way of Christ, the true vine, or face the perishing of the unrighteous—only through Him is the good life possible.

The sermon explores the unfolding of God's redemptive plan, tracing a chain of divine action from foreknowledge to glorification. It emphasizes that salvation is not merely forgiveness but a transformative process where believers are conformed to the image of Christ, reflecting His glory and experiencing His presence. The message highlights the importance of beholding God's glory through Scripture, cultivating a life of discipline and devotion, and ultimately anticipating the future reality of seeing Him face to face, where believers will be fully glorified and experience the boundless love and beauty of their Savior.

The sermon explores the dangers of superficiality, particularly in modern relationships and worship, contrasting them with the profound beauty and majesty of God. Drawing from Isaiah's prophecies concerning Judah's impending judgment and the coming of a righteous king, the message emphasizes the need to move beyond outward appearances and embrace a deeper understanding of God's character and sovereignty. Ultimately, the sermon calls listeners to recognize Jesus as the worthy Lamb who has conquered death and offers salvation, inviting them to worship Him as King and acknowledge His eternal power and grace.

The sermon explores the multifaceted nature of the gospel through the lens of Hosea's story, emphasizing that it's not merely a set of theological definitions but a narrative of God's relentless pursuit and restoration of a faithless people. Drawing from Hosea's marriage to Gomer and the naming of his children, the message highlights the logical consequence of sin—punishment and isolation—while simultaneously revealing God's illogical, yet profoundly loving, decision to allure, restore, and ultimately redeem even the most wayward. Ultimately, the sermon presents the gospel as a story of divine faithfulness, illogical grace, and a covenant relationship where God, as the husband, pursues and saves his bride, offering hope and a path to renewed life and knowing Him.

The sermon explores the assurance and security found in God's grace through the chain of redemption, emphasizing that justification, sanctification, and glorification are all divine actions. Drawing from Romans 8 and 2 Peter 1, the message highlights the importance of clinging to the promise of God's purpose in all circumstances, even amidst suffering, and underscores that God's work in conforming believers to the image of Christ is the ultimate goal. It stresses the significance of recognizing God's unwavering love and purpose, encouraging listeners to affirm their calling and election through spiritual discernment and a commitment to living a life that reflects Christ, ultimately leading to exaltation and a deeper understanding of God's unwavering faithfulness.

The sermon explores the profound implications of Jesus' teaching on lust, emphasizing that it begins in the heart and extends beyond physical acts, violating the sanctity of marriage and reflecting a prioritization of carnal desires over God. Drawing from Old Testament examples like Dinah's story and King David's affair, the message underscores the destructive nature of unchecked lust and the need for decisive action to remove temptations, even if it requires significant personal sacrifice. Ultimately, the sermon calls for a commitment to denying oneself and embracing God's adoption, assuring listeners that despite their brokenness, they are deeply loved and desired by the creator.

Jon begins by completing our look at the life, teaching, preaching, and legacy of John Calvin. Then our historical focus moves to England and William Tyndale. Tyndale first translated the bible into english, in a time when possessing any version of the bible other than the Latin Vulgate was a crime. Reformation is taking hold on continental Europe, espousing doctrines in direct opposition to the Roman Catholic church. Rome must respond, and does so starting with the Council of Trent. In addition, we will learn about another large figure in the early Protestant Reformation, John Calvin.--When you hear the work 'council' you think of a meeting, but this 'meeting' extended almost 20 years through the reign of three popes. The four main decisions or decrees that the council produced were- --1. A rejection of Sola Scriptura -Scripture Alone is the Authority- and a re-affirmation of the authority of Papal decree and tradition as equal with scripture- --2. A rejection of Sola Fide -Justification by Faith Alone- and a reiteration that justification is a progressive process that requires works- --3. An establishment of Transubstantiation -real physical transformation of the bread and wine during communion into the body of blood of Christ- as church doctrine.--4. Ecclesiastical reforms in the clergy.
