This episode is a recording of Un-complicate Your Business, a free roundtable I co-hosted with Laura Sinclair, founder of This Mother Means Business.

We got into why business doesn't have to be as hard as we make it — and the very specific ways we make it harder anyway. Paralysis dressed up as "still figuring it out." Solving the wrong problem instead of the real one. Drifting away from the basics because they're not exciting enough to post about.

This is a real, live conversation — not a polished presentation. A few attendees joined in too, and one of them said the line that's stuck with me since: "the little things are the big things." That's really the whole point.

Timestamps:

  • 0:02 — Intros and how this conversation started
  • 4:05 — Laura's "die on this hill" belief: business isn't as hard as we make it
  • 9:33 — The two business types: complicated models vs. simple models we overcomplicate
  • 27:11 — The flavor of overcomplicating I call "solving the wrong problem"
  • 33:09 — Paralysis dressed as strategy (the 5-month email story)
  • 39:17 — Attendee reflections: what landed and why
  • 49:52 — Final thoughts: leading with why instead of what

The closing thought I want to leave you with: the thing you're trying to fix is usually downstream of the real issue... which is why fixing it never quite sticks. Next time something feels harder than it should, ask yourself what it might actually be downstream of.

Sometimes overcomplication isn't a sign something's broken. It's a sign you're ready to grow — and it's time to shift how you're running things. A good place to start is just seeing clearly how you're currently operating as an entrepreneur. Take my free Frazzled → Focused assessment to find out.

This episode is a recording of the very first Purpose Circle: a small, live conversation I'm hosting (planning quarterly) for entrepreneurs who want to circle deeper into the patterns shaping how we run our businesses.

We jumped right in with introductions and a "yes I regret" round, then explored why saying yes is often how we build a business in the early days... and how those same yeses can quietly start costing us more than they give back over time.

Most entrepreneurs don't notice the shift. Or they feel it — the heaviness, the resentment, the exhaustion — but don't connect it back to the yeses themselves.

This is a real conversation between likeminded entrepreneurs. Pauses, kids in the background, real-time thinking. That's the point!

Timestamps:

  • 0:00 — Intros + a "yes I regret" round
  • 14:30 — The Frazzled → Focused continuum
  • 20:30 — The two flavors of the cost: more (Frazzled) vs weight (Stretched)
  • 46:40 — What's one yes sitting on your plate right now?

The closing prompt I want to leave you with: notice one yes you're about to say this week. Pause for 30 seconds and ask: is this a yes I'd be choosing if I weren't on autopilot?

📝 Curious where you land on the Frazzled → Focused Continuum? Take my short 8-question business assessment to get your answer & one clear step forward: https://createyourpurpose.co/frazzled-focused-quiz/

If your business has been feeling like a spaghetti mess — reactive, stretched thin, or just plain unsustainable — this special training / working session is for you.

In it, I walk you through the Frazzled → Focused Continuum to help you pinpoint where you are right now, normalize the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, and show you how to move one notch forward through purposeful refinement.

  • The difference between working in your business and working on your business (and why it matters)
  • The three ingredients every entrepreneur needs to create sustainable clarity: structure, space, and support

This training isn't about giving you another to-do list. It's about helping you reset, realign, and move forward with intention — without the overwhelm.

If you've been feeling stretched thin or like you're carrying two full-time jobs at once — life and business — this conversation is for you.

In this roundtable, Quinn Tempest, Parijat Deshpande, and Karen Ozeri unpack the invisible load women hold behind the scenes: the mental load, identity shifts of motherhood, and the nervous-system strain of trying to "do it all" while running a business.

They break down why so many women feel depleted right now (hint: it's not your fault), how these pressures land in the body, and what small, meaningful shifts can help you reclaim energy and agency.

If you've been wondering, "Is it just me?"... it's not.

Letting go is much harder than it seems– when we re-examine how much of ourselves we’ve poured into projects, it can be a real challenge to finally let go and move on with something you find much more fulfilling. This is how I started to feel about my business before, where I would build up other people’s brands, their reputations; and I was struggling in the background trying to keep up with the day to day grind.

It was scary to think about what I needed to do. Where would I even start? Would I be okay without my best clients? And my main source of income? Little did I know that I just needed to meet the right people at just the right time.

Join me in this conversation as I share with you guys how I got the ball rolling for myself!

EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: * My honeymoon, and the people I met that inspired change * Finally realizing that I was unfulfilled in my business * Taking that first step and building my own brand * Acknowledging that my past business helped me ready myself for a new journey

Earlier in the episode, I mentioned that the Create Your Purpose Collective waitlist is re-opening! If you’re interested in joining a community with over 50 supportive women entrepreneurs, then check it out here!

Education– the key that opens up opportunities and should be a universal right to any and all children across the world. On this episode today, I’ve invited Komal Shah to share with us her journey to raising conscious children through education– all inspired by one child she met by chance in India during a holy pilgrimage.

Hope you stay and listen in on how Komal found her purpose, so you too can find your way to fulfillment!

About Komal Shah:

After growing up in a closely knit Indian-American community, Komal decided to take Biology at UC Irvine, but then began to question her career– unsure if she really wanted to be a doctor. After she met a young girl on a trip to India, she had an epiphany that sparked a new purpose in her.

Upon her return to the United States, she applied for Teach for America, and that shifted everything in her life for the positive, an experience she will never look back on, teaching her to step into her power as a teacher.

Connect with Komal Shah: * Website * Twitter * Instagram

Episode Highlights: * Komal’s education, where she started * Education and how it should contribute to future fulfillment * Schools catering to training kids for the workforce, not their wellbeing * The problems in the public school system * Finding her purpose by joining Teach for America

Earlier in the episode, I mentioned my Purpose Quiz to help anyone identify their entrepreneurial purpose, you can check that out here!

You can also join me, Komal, and many other purpose-driven women entrepreneurs inside my Create Your Purpose Collective – the waitlist is open now!

From a young age, Bryana was aware of often being the only Black person in predominantly white communities. That didn’t change when she took on various marketing roles in the Agribusiness industry.

What it DID do was light a spark of passion within her to help organizations, places of worship, and individuals create brave spaces to have TOUGH CONVERSATIONS about race.

That led her to get her Master’s in Anti-racism in Urban Education with UNC Charlotte and found 1619 Consulting LLC to help organizations in the agribusiness space have tough discussions about race and inclusivity without causing harm or overwhelm.

Bryana’s purpose is to ignite the power within others to make authentic change and that purpose has come to life SO powerfully in unique ways throughout her entrepreneurial journey. Enjoy this episode!

In this episode, we talked about: * 4:33 ~ How the past year for Bryana has been really “weird” * 7:00 ~ Her journey from agribusiness to racial equity consulting * 12:00 ~ How she’s navigated building a purposeful business * 15:23 ~ Why she’s exploring how her anti-racism work can evolve * 17:40 ~ Her 5-year vision to become a voice of credibility in agribusiness * 20:39 ~ My question for Bryana about the privilege of being an entrepreneur + her answer * 25:00 ~ Bry’s thoughts on speaking up even when it feels uncomfortable * 28:19 ~ Her race equity 3-step framework: knowledge, introspection, and action * 33:00 ~ Why Bry isn’t trying to change racism, she’s trying to change hearts * 34:33 ~ What a “brave conversation about race” really is * 43:25 ~ Rapid-fire question round!

I have a podcast…. maybe?!

I listen to podcasts alllll the time but I never seriously thought about putting one together myself.

Frankly, it just felt like “another thing” I needed to do in my content efforts, and just thinking about it felt overwhelming!

But then, I figured – hey, I LOVE listening to podcasts… why can’t I do something simple to test out the idea and see if my audience likes it? After all, I teach entrepreneurs to be curious and run little experiments in their business, so it’s time I practice what I preach.

So, let me introduce you to the Create Your Purpose® Conversations!

My vision is to share inspiring women with you – the kind of women who are doing the work to build their businesses and lives with purpose and on purpose.

It was a no-brainer to begin with Cherilyn Yazzie, owner and founder of Coffee Pot Farms. She is a Navajo woman who founded her farm in Dilkon, Arizona to provide fresh food to her community, something that is hard to come by because of the remoteness of the reservation.

Cherilyn is also a member of my Create Your Purpose Collective so I’ve been privy to her journey behind-the-scenes to build her business and man am I inspired!

Will this be a real, consistent podcast updated consistently? No idea! But, I’d love to know if you’re interested in that (comment below!).

Oh, and this episode was lovingly recorded from my bathtub. The pandemic work-from-home situation ain’t easy! So please know that this episode is FAR from perfect (and as a recovering perfectionist, this is hard for me to admit) and I hope to continue to get better over time with the technical aspects of it all.

In this episode, we talked about: * 5:50 ~ How she began Coffee Pot Farms and why * 10:00 ~ Her fear of leaving her full-time job to begin a farm * 14:52 ~ Why advocacy and activism is integral to her business * 20:52 ~ The routines + rituals that keep her sane * 26:07 ~ The ways Cherilyn and her husband hold each other accountable * 28:30 ~ The importance of social media for her business during the pandemic * 31:10 ~ Rapid-fire question round!
