While we tend to celebrate those with a proclivity for action and brash words, great leaders are often precisely those who don't need to generate excessive noise or activity. To make this point, Gutmann draws on contemporary research and historical examples, including the famed but disaster-prone Ernest Shackleton.Martin Gutmann is a speaker, author, and researcher interested in how the past can shed new light on contemporary issues. He is a professor at the Lucerne School of Business, Switzerland. His most recent book is The Unseen Leader: Martin has a Ph.D. in history from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University, USA, an eMBA from IE Business School, Spain, and higher education teacher’s training from Harvard University, USA and ETH Zurich, Switzerland. On store shelves, customers might only see a bright yellow smile waiting to add some shine to the kitchen. But, behind the iconic ridges and gleaming eye holes are years of sweat and machine grime for Aaron Krause, 54, Scrub Daddy’s Founder and CEO.Aaron's entrepreneurial journey started when he was just a kid living in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. At 10 years old, he created his first invention: A rope and pulley system to turn his bedroom light on and off from his bed so he didn't have to get up and do it.From there, Aaron kept his innovative side going by washing cars in the neighborhood. After graduating from Syracuse University in 1992 with a psychology degree, he told his family that he was going to open his own car washing business. His family was shocked and upset with his career path, to say the least. But Aaron knew he could make it work. Not only by washing cars, but to start inventing new products. In 1994, he invented his first big product, which was a buffing pad for polishing cars.In 1995, Aaron sold his car washing business and turned his focus to a new venture: Dedication To Detail, a buffing pad manufacturer. A few years after creating his business, he received polyester urethane foam from German manufacturer FoamPartner, which became a key part of Scrub Daddy's material now known as FlexTexture. However, the buffing pads he was selling with this foam at this time did not sell well and he was forced to stop selling it due to low sales in the market.

Aaron Amuchastegui excels at helping people buy real estate at a discount, and he’s turned that expertise into a thriving real estate business. Between his tools—like Lead Propeller, Prophawk, and Roddy’s Foreclosure Listing—and the more than 800 properties he owns across Texas, his businesses generate a quarter million dollars in revenue every month. Learn how he started and grew his real estate investing business in this interview. Aaron started his first real estate business in 2009, just after the housing crash forced the California company where he’d worked as a realtor to downsize. He drew on his real estate expertise to invest in foreclosed properties, building a hedge fund from scratch and flipping over 1,000 homes in 3 years. That success was short lived, however. Competition from large investment firms forced his business to close and led to Aaron shifting his focus to properties in Texas. The lessons he learned growing that first real estate business proved beneficial when he started investing again in 2015. In this episode, he’ll share what he did differently the second time around, as well as his advice for other new investors to avoid making the same missteps. Today, Aaron’s business goes beyond simply investing. He’s expanded into the technology side of real estate investment, starting with his purchase of Roddy’s Foreclosure Listing in 2017. We’ll learn why he decided to broaden his focus to include investor tools and how he’s achieved consistent year-over-year growth with the listing service since he acquired it.

Jim Rohn's best sayings over the years:- We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment.- Nobody on this world will become their best version of themselves until they start practicing consistent self discipline. Jim Rohn is the godfather of personal development, and for the daily discipline and motivation, watch this every day to have consistent growth in your life.- Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.- Success is something you attract by the person you become.- Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day; while failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day. It is the accumulative weight of our disciplines and our judgments that leads us to either fortune or failure.- Learn to be happy with what you have while you pursue all that you dream.- Walk away from the 97 percent crowd. Don’t use their excuses. Take charge of your own life.- When you know what you want, and you want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it.- Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.- We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret.- If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.- If you don’t like how things are, change it! You’re not a tree.- Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.- Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom.

Josh Pather started a photo booth rental business as a side hustle in 2012. Within three years, his company was doing 850 events a year—and that was just the start of the growth spurt that landed it on Inc. 5000’s list of the fastest-growing companies in Texas in 2020. Josh talks us through the steps in his entrepreneurial journey in this episode. The idea to start a photo booth business came to Josh while he was working as an event DJ. He built his first photo booth from scratch and started renting it out for weekend events, all while working a job for a large company during the week. When his job was moved overseas, Josh took this as a sign it was time to focus on his business full-time. By 2015, Josh was facing the best problem a business owner can have: He had more business than he could handle, with as many as 10 events happening on any given Saturday. He was also getting a lot of inquiries from people wondering where they could buy photo booths. This gave Josh the idea to start Photo Booth International, giving entrepreneurs a turnkey model they could use to start photo booth businesses of their own.Josh credits his business growth to a combination of hard work and his marketing expertise. In this interview, he’ll talk through the marketing strategy he used to build a customer base early on, and how he adjusted that strategy when he expanded into selling photo booths to entrepreneurs. We’ll also learn about some of the biggest challenges he faced when starting the business and how he overcame them to achieve such impressive growth.

John D’Eri started Rising Tide Car Wash with a mission: to create an opportunity for his autistic son, Andrew, and other neurodivergent adults who are often overlooked by employers. Not only have they succeeded in this mission, but they’ve built a 3-location, 7-figure business in the process. Co-founder and COO Thomas D’Eri explains how to start a car wash with this kind of profit potential in this episode. The D’Eris didn’t have any experience with running a car wash before they started Rising Tide. That’s the main reason they bought a struggling car wash business instead of building one from scratch, and that turned out to be a smart move. We’ll learn how they brought that first location back from the brink of failure in this video. They’ll also share the mistakes they made along the way and the lessons they learned that help them grow their second and third locations from the ground up. Inclusive hiring remains at the heart of Rising Tide’s mission, and is a key cornerstone of their success. Tom has even written the book on inclusive hiring and the benefits it can bring to businesses, The Power of Potential. They also started Rising Tide U to provide resources to other employers who want to hire neurodivergent team members. We’ll hear about this program and how they set their team up for success at Rising Tide in this interview.

In this video, Mikael Sant, founder of Sant Lines, will share his advice on how to start a trucking company from scratch. Mikael has always had an entrepreneurial spirit. Although he’s still a teenager, Sant Lines is just one of seven businesses he’s started and owns. He saw the industry’s potential through a friend whose family are owner-operators and started researching how to start a trucking business of his own. He founded Sant Lines in May of 2021, and in its first three months of operation, brought in more than $150,000 in revenue. In just over a year, he’s expanded from one truck to a fleet of five, with plans to grow even further by the end of 2022. Maybe most impressive is that Mikael has accomplished this as a self-taught entrepreneur with no prior experience in the trucking industry. We’ll find out how he developed the skills to effectively lead a trucking company and build his business from the ground up. He’ll share how much it cost him to get started and how he financed that investment, along with the systems he implemented to manage the business and how he grew brand awareness and found his first customers. If you’re in the transportation industry, or thinking about starting a trucking business, you’ll definitely want to hear Mikael’s insights! And if you’re looking for more advice from business owners, check out some of our past interviews:

We’ll learn how they did it in this interview.Turn your hobby into a business & save $1600 while you’re at it: Jocelyn first started making candles as a hobby and a way to give unique gifts to coworkers. In the episode, Jen explains the best things to invest that money into to grow a business quickly, and her advice for someone who wants to start a handmade candle business with no money. While they started with a farmers market booth, most of RxLA’s sales today are online. Jen and Jocelyn bootstrapped their business and were doing everything themselves when they started. Jen will share when they hired their first employees and how that’s fueled their growth. One way they tried to scale during Covid was through a brick-and-mortar store, which turned out to be their biggest setback. We’ll learn about the challenges of opening a physical retail space and what Jen and Jocelyn would do differently if they were starting it again.

Serial entrepreneur Abdulla Kudrath is a self-made millionaire who turned his passion for emergency medicine into a $1.9 million a month revenue across his more than a dozen businesses. He shares the strategies he’s used to achieve this success in this interview. Abdulla grew up as a first-generation American in a working class neighborhood of New Jersey. Like many people, Abdulla didn’t have a clear path for his future when he graduated high school. He did well in school and went to college for computer science, but he wasn’t passionate about that career choice–and it showed. He was a self-described “slacker” who put as much energy into playing video games as he did into his studies. All of that changed when he nearly failed out of school. That served as a wake-up call for him to find his passion and what truly brought him happiness, principles that have guided his entrepreneurial ventures since. He shifted from computer science to medicine and got the opportunity to travel to the Amazon, sparking a new passion for biology that led him to become an emergency room doctor. That laid the foundation for his future successes, both within the medical field and in other areas where he’s passionate, like collecting cars. Following his heart and passions helped Abdulla achieve his full potential, but that doesn’t mean his journey was easy. In this interview, we’ll hear the struggles he went through and the challenges he overcame, along with the sacrifices he had to make to get to where he is today. He’ll also share his advice for people who want to become millionaires, and why following your heart and passion is a better way to go about it than focusing on the money.

Thomas Sowell discusses economic inequality, racial inequality, and the myths that have continued to falsely describe the system of poverty among different racial and economic classes. He explains the economic theories behind these pervasive myths and proposes fact-based solutions for seemingly intractable situations.  Sowell discusses his early life as a high school dropout and his first full-time job as a Western Union messenger delivering telegrams. He admits to flirting with Marxism in his early twenties as he first tried to grapple with the housing inequality he saw across the neighborhoods of New York City. Marxism, he says, was the only explanation he could find at the time. He went on to serve in the Marine Corps before continuing his education in economics at Harvard and earning a master’s at Columbia and a PhD at the University of Chicago.  Sowell’s first job after his receiving his PhD in economics was working for the Department of Labor, and he says it was there that he realized Marxism was not the answer. He argues that the government has its own institutional interests in inequality that cannot be explained through Marxism. He began to be discouraged by Marxism and the government in general and began searching for better economic ideas and solutions (the free market).

“Just generally as an entrepreneur, you have to think differently in order to be successful. There’s a high risk of being wrong – you have to be audacious, you have to think differently, you have to be confident.” Ray Dalio, founder and chairman of Bridgewater Associates, visited campus tonight for View From The Top. Dalio made his first investment – $300 in Northeast Airlines – when he was just 12 years old. It tripled shortly thereafter when the company merged with another. He went on to start Bridgewater Associates at age 26, growing it to be one of the most successful hedge funds in the world.⁣ ⁣⁣ At the event, Dalio also spoke on how conflicts with other nations – political or otherwise – will be unavoidable in the future, but their outcomes will depend on how leaders handle those conflicts. Dalio ended by touching on the increasing wage gap in the U.S. "If we don’t treat it as the most critical issue of our time, I think we’re going to be in trouble. There needs to be redistribution of opportunity, not just of money.”

“People say I made the dress. Yes, I made the dress, but really, the dress made me. Thanks to this dress, I became more confident. I was sharing my confidence, I was selling my confidence,” Diane Von FĂŒrstenberg, founder of fashion line DVF, told students at her View From The Top event. Her iconic wrap dress became the look for working women in the 1970’s and continues to make a statement. Born in Brussels and the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Von FĂŒrstenberg believes in “never being the victim.” Today, Von FĂŒrstenberg supports and awards women entrepreneurs around the world. “When you are successful, two things happen,” she told the audience. “One is that you can pay your bills and the second is that you have a voice. And once that happens, it’s a gift and a privilege to use your voice for those who don’t have a voice.”

My father could have been a great comedian but he didn't believe that that was possible for him, and so he made a conservative choice. Instead, he got a safe job as an accountant and when I was 12 years old he was let go from that safe job, and our family had to do whatever we could to survive. “People often optimize for the role or for the company. The first thing I optimize for is who I will work with. Khosrowshahi discussed his departure from Expedia and his approach to shifting company values at Uber to focus on diversity and inclusion. “An important factor in our change was setting a new culture and new norms,” he said. “We crowdsourced those norms and asked people – what kind of company do we want to be?”  Khosroshahi advised students to let go of benchmarking via titles and salaries when it comes to career goals. “Have a theme but don’t get locked in. I’m always looking around to make sure my own biases don’t prevent me from seeing something great,” he said. “When you’re lucky enough to take that risk, jump!”

From the very young age of 11, Malala Yousafzai was already fighting for girls' right to education in her rural Pakistan hometown. Inspired greatly by her father, an educator and activist, Malala spoke out against the Taliban demanding her right to attend school after they took control of the Swat Valley region. A great company culture will trump a stellar business strategy any day. That’s a lesson that Mindy Grossman has had to learn over and over again. At HSN, Inc., which owns the Home Shopping Network and Cornerstone brands, meeting customer needs with new offerings has been a priority since 1985. In that time, its retail brands have evolved from television shows to websites and catalogs. But through it all, the company’s focus on customer experience has remained the same. In this conversation with Reid Hoffman on the Masters of Scale podcast, Mindy explains how HSN’s commitment to delighting customers shaped its approach to hyper-personalization -- and how that attention helped keep HSN at the cutting edge of retail. “You have to be willing to evolve constantly,” she says. “That comfort level will never be there. If you don't get comfortable being uncomfortable, you shouldn’t be in these spaces. You have to be able to shift your mindset continuously.”

Sheryl Sandberg: You're not born with a fixed amount of resilience. It is a muscle; you can build it up, draw on it when you need it. In that process you will figure out who you really are--and you just might become the very best version of yourself.

The most important thing is to know that you have the ability to get through absolutely anything. I had a very good friend who was a mentor to me early in my career. He told me there were three steps to more confidence and ultimately success. I call it The Confidence Gap. Step one is recognizing that you have strengths and talents no matter where you are in your career and always believing in them. Step two is being able to articulate those strengths and talents so people know what you bring to the table. And step three is understanding how your strengths and talents can create value for other people, so they want to work with you or hire you or promote you.

Our society encourages women to build their confidence through external means--how we look and what we do for work--which has some positive effects but also makes us vulnerable to changes over time that are beyond our control: getting older, putting on weight or losing it, having children, changing jobs, being laid off,

“You can talk in a grand fashion about a 20-year plan, but you also have to work on what ‘this afternoon’ brings. Having a sense of where your compass is set, and then breaking it down into little steps – knowing they will change over time, but not losing sight – that’s what you need to build an organization.” Michael Moritz, partner at Sequoia Capital, visited campus for View From The Top and shared what he learned as a journalist covering Silicon Valley in the 1980’s and later as an investor within it.  During Moritz’s 33 years in venture capital, Sequoia Capital has provided early funding to tech companies now considered giants (LinkedIn, KAYAK, Google, and Zappos among them). Moritz also advised students on what he looks for in early companies. “To me, the best investments are always those that don’t fit into a convenient bucket,” he said. “What isn’t obvious becomes something really interesting. And unlike the mega-donors of the past today’s philanthropists want to see the results in their lifetimes. But how altruistic is this new golden age of giving? Have these mega-donors become too powerful? The way charities work is increasingly under the microscope. Donors large and small are demanding better bang for their buck. This is leading to innovative new approaches to doing good which are redefining notions of altruism. Hilton Douglas is an outreach worker for Urban Pathways, a non-profit benefiting from a recent explosion in charity amongst wealthy Americans. There are record numbers of homeless people in New York and every day Hilton tries to help some of the worst affected. In 2018 spending by charitable foundations reached a record $75bn in America. I spent some time with Wes (Grantasaurus Rex as I called him then) at CTCRM Lympstone when we were both injured during the long 32 weeks of training held there. I was in a very bad place mentally at the time after receiving an injury early on in the training and was medically discharged many months later. That was 13 years ago. Even though I didn't make the grade, sharing a room together, Wes made my stay in Hunter Company so much more bearable with his often hilarious uplifting spirit and inspirational ways which would inpact on everybody around him. He was always lightening the mood and encouraging you to do better in many things.

The education system really needs a major change. The schools teach us how to start running for that rat race and get into the box of responsibilities. The schools teach us to judge a person with his grades and that failure is bad. So a child is neglected from its group of friends on scoring low grades. The schools don't teach us humanity and they won't support you on having a different perspective of life. The schools don't teach us what you Mr.Shetty is telling us in this video whereas children first really need their personal development over education and most of all, the reason behind so many students getting disinterested in studies is because of the way of teaching. I never liked doing my lessons because they were taught in a robotic way and whenever

I felt difficulty in learning them, I used to make songs out of those chapters. So even I felt this need of this education system to be changed to somewhat fun and entertaining process and I guess in that way the learning part will automatically fall in place.

This man saved my life. After my divorce that took over two years to end, I was overweight, addicted to cigarettes, weed, sex, and tremendously depressed and drinking almost every night while living overseas, in my mid-thirties. with a job that I hated even though it paid me well. Then my grandmother passed away and she was the last person in my family with whom I had a good relationship, so I went back home, and not having her made me hit rock bottom. I cleaned her house, starting with my room... every morning while listening to JBP's lectures. I read his book as well. My neighbor asked me once who was this man he listened to every morning. I told him just a university teacher. Three years later I've got rid of all the toxic people in my life, I quit smoking, I'm back to the same weight I was in my early 20s, I'm running my own business with a great partner, and I finally have a purpose in my life. This is not a success story, I've yet to achieve that - But I know where I am going. I owe it to this man, mostly, and other great thinkers like Marcus Aurelius and Carl Jung. Nevertheless, Jordan Peterson is the father I never had but I always needed.

In this keynote from November 2019 in Brazil, Gary talks about a lot of the new and emerging marketings tactics that he is starting to see work that nobody is doing. He stresses the importance of getting on these trends early before there are real "results" because by that point you will feel like it's "too late" and you missed the opportunity. People often fall into the trap of not doing because there are no results for a new trend or it's "too late" because the tactic is too saturated. Gary also covers a bunch of other topics including; judgment, patience, B2B tactics and more. He also does a great Q&A with the audience where he answers a lot of great contextual questions. Beyonce is rich, with a reported net worth of $290 Million. And so is Kobe Bryant sitting at $350 Million. But in the tally of America’s 40 wealthiest self-made under-40 personalities, the pop diva trails nearly everyone else at number 38 on the list, while the retired NBA Most Valuable Player—whose superior athletic abilities should have outpaced any competition—came sputtering in at number 33. Impressive still? No doubt. But when you take a look at the vast majority of the self-made wealthy on the list, there are some undeniable trends that'd lead the astute to believe that the most likely path to eventually becoming a billionaire isn't through sports or music—it's through business. With a few exceptions, the list is dominated (90 percent) by young founders, entrepreneurs and investors associated with globally recognizable brands like Facebook, Uber, Airbnb, Snapchat, Pinterest, Instagram and more. On the world's stage, there are 56 billionaires under 40 years old according to the Forbes 2017 list. While a number of them—like Alexandra Andresen (born in July 1996 and the youngest person who made the list)—inherited a very large fortune from their parents, more than half (30) built their own wealth entrepreneurs in spaces like technology, healthcare and investing. At an increasing pace, the world is minting self-made billionaires, some of them still in their 20s (looking at you, Evan Spiegel of Snapchat). But what does it take to build a 10-digit fortune decades before you even need to think about retirement? To answer the question of how to become a billionaire, we need to examine the rise of young tech moguls such as Mark Zuckerberg, the Collison brothers (Stripe), Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy (SnapChat), and Adam Neumann (WeWork). We can then identify commonalities in their journey towards entrepreneurial success.

There’s a way to future-proof yourself.

To guarantee that you could always make money for yourself and not have to depend on anyone else.

And before I reveal to you how to do that, let me ask you a question

Would you hire Bill Gates to work for you if you could?

Like most people, you’d probably say yes.

And the reason why most people would say yes is because Bill Gates has business skills that any company can benefit from.

Well you can build the same “Bill Gates” effect for yourself. And this is how you future-proof yourself.

So how do you do it?

Develop an in-demand skill.

And become so good at it that no one would hesitate to hire you to work for them.

Some skills for example are digital marketing and copywriting.

Now there’s a place where you can learn these skills from successful entrepreneurs.

When you join Knowledge Society, you’ll get access to certification programs taught by successful entrepreneurs.

You can learn a wide range of skills from business networking, affiliate marketing to building a service-based business.

Once you learn these skills, you’ll always have a way to make money for yourself.

Check out this video to find out more about Knowledge Society and its programs:

"One of the great things to learn from Darwin is the value of extreme objectivity. He tried to disconfirm his ideas as soon as he got them. He quickly put down in his notebook anything that disconfirmed a much-loved idea. He especially sought out such things. Well, if you keep doing that over time, you get to be a perfectly marvelous thinker instead of one more klutz repeatedly demonstrating first-conclusion bias."

I know that some multi-level-marketing companies give the concept of 'passive income' a bad name. That's because these companies promise you an early retirement, yet you’re a few years in and haven’t seen any results for your hard work.

Now, I don't know if it's possible to create a 7 figure business without doing any work.

Whether it was on the farm, in my insurance business or with some of the businesses that I run now, I've always had to work.

But the only way that I know how to create passive income is by building and surrounding yourself with a great team.

Like one of my early mentors told me, "many hands make light work"

So if you want to have your money work for you, you need to have a team help you lighten your work.

Or else you’ll be stuck trading your time for money.

Dean’s mission is to teach the average person how to take that first step and get into real estate through buying and flipping single-family homes. He started selling and creating income opportunities when he was only seven years old. Growing up in a lower-middle-class household motivated Dean to become an entrepreneur. He started repairing and selling cars to owning a multi-family apartment building in his mid-twenties. He then branched out and became a land developer.  He created and aired his first infomercial in the late nineties titled “Motor Millions”, which was a $59 course to wholesale and rehab cars. Self-made billionaires are no joke.   Billionaire Mark Cuban ($3 billion net worth, Shark Tank, Dallas Mavericks owner) dropped by the house today for 4 hours to play some basketball, talk books, and share some future trends to invest in.  I counted how many genius things he told me. It was 19 different points. He's a damn smart man - one of the most observant and aware people I've talked to in a long time.   His reaction when I asked him how it felt to become a billionaire cracked me up, haha.   One powerful point is that you only have to win once. Then everyone will forget your past mistakes. So true...

The results are in and... e-commerce has won. Still using the brick and mortar model? You need to pivot. Quickly. Customers want the convenience of shopping online. Jeff Bezos predicted this in the 90s and now he’s one of the wealthiest people in the world.  I’ve been telling people for over 10 years the internet is changing things. That’s why I started teaching online education programs. You don’t have to go to a campus to learn. Now so many people do it from home.  There are more tools than ever for starting an online business. If you’re offering a physical product, use Shopify. You want to offer a product that’ll do well no matter what’s going on in the world. That’s why I offer meat, education, and clothes with my e-commerce businesses.  You also need a good story. Every successful business has a great story. Stories sell. Make your story something you believe in. Elon Musk believes we need to live on other planets and builds reusable rockets.  It’s not too late to get into e-commerce. More people do it now, but more people are using the internet. Your time is now.
