The Emmaus Project is about sharing stories and strategies for your journey. We have conversations with interesting people, trying to learn from their unique journeys and gather some practical life advice along the way.
This episode Dan chats with Pr William Iererua. Will is a Youth Director for North New Zealand and is married to Bea and they have 4 kids. Will and Dan talk about growing up outside the church, fatherlessness, Wills encounters with domestic violence how that has helped prepare his ministry. Will and Dan also talk about the highs and lows of parenthood, the joys and grief of parenting kids with ASD, how ministry works with those extra challenges and what the church can do to better support families. This Episode of The Emmaus Project features Amy Turner. Amy is a Pastor, a teacher a Mother and Wife. Amy is the Associate Youth Director for the Western Australia Conference. Amy has a great story of how she got into ministry, and we share some of the great stories of times we have ministered together. She has also had an amazing journey through infertility and the grief that surrounds that, to now having 3 sons of her own, including her "miracle" twins. Amy shares some amazing insights through this time in her life, and how she developed her journaling and prayer life. This was such a great episode to record, I felt like Amy and I could have chatted for hours. Not only does Amy have a great story but we find some really great strategies to help you with your own walk.

This week I am joined by Pr Dejan Stojkovic. Dejan is the Director of Youth Ministries for the British Union. Dejan is legitimately one of the funniest humans alive and it was great fun to chat and dive into his story. In this episode we discuss growing up in Serbia, his difficult transition to the UK for study and work, burnout and perseverance. We talk about the expectations communities have on young people and how we get it so wrong so often. We talk a lot about working with young people and the lessons learned in that space.

This episode Dan chats with Lesleigh Bower. Lesleigh is a solicitor, ice hockey enthusiast, and all round leader. She is passionate about social justice, and we discuss how that has played a role in her various professional paths in her career, she talks about her unique time as General Secretary for the Western Australia Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, how she was able to lead and grow in this unique position. I say unique because Lesleigh, was not a trained Minister, is young and female. While non of these precluded her from the role, to tick all three of these made Lesleigh very unique in this context, with all of her colleagues around the country being, trained Ministers, older and male. We talk leading, as a young person, and Lesleigh has some particularly great advice about leading up, and leading to your gifting.
