They informed us that literacy is a problem for children at all economic levels because of devices. It's not just lower-income children facing the issue.Â

The pathway to sobriety is difficult with even the most caring and constant support structures. Imagine the difficulties for those who are trying to break the chains of addiction only to find that the doors to those support structures are closed to them. That's the reality for many in our hometown who have been told that the labels attributed to them make them ineligible for what should be an equal opportunity to get the help needed on the path to sobriety. They have been asked to deny who they are in order to have a chance at a life free from Substance Use Disorder. Shame is not a starting point for successful living in recovery.
Within the structure of the Twelve Steps, Door To Serenity is being created to address the needs of those who seek our help on their road to recovery. Wilmer Hall Children's Home is a non-profit faith-based organization that has been serving young people in need in Mobile, Alabama since 1864. Wilmer Hall serves children and young adults through several programs that provide tutoring, on-campus living, and other tools needed to succeed. Wilmer Hall currently has five programs: The Residential Program, the Transitional Living Program, the Transitional Family Program, the on-campus after-school education program (called Education4Life), and the Community-Based Education Program. The Community-Based Education program consists of the Philipa Stirling Hamilton Education Center and the Max Miller Education Program.

The History Museum of Mobile is where Mobileâs story begins. Over 117,000 objects weave together the rich, diverse, and often turbulent histories of Mobile and the surrounding area, from the prehistoric past to the present. Located in the heart of downtown, the History Museum is in the Old City Hall - Southern Market building at 111 South Royal Street. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile provides a supportive home environment offering care, compassion, and hope to families with seriously ill and injured children being treated at area hospitals.
The history of Ronald McDonald House nationally and our Ronald McDonald House of Mobile are both the story of what one motivated, determined person can do. For all Ronald McDonald Houses that person was professional football player Fred Hill of the Philadelphia Eagles whose daughter had leukemia. After many nights of sleeping in hospital waiting rooms and eating vending machine food he thought there had to be a better way for families with children in the hospital. He approached the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles and together they approached McDonalds to build the first Ronald McDonald House in 1974 in Philadelphia.
Here in Mobile, the person who got our House started was Gray Zimlich. Her son Day had a brain tumor when he was 10 years old and they stayed in the Ronald McDonald House in Boston while he was receiving treatment. On the way home, Day told his mother Mobile needed a Ronald McDonald House and she promised him she would make it happen and she did. Our House took in its first family in February 2000. We have the distinction of being the first new House of the new millennium. Originally, Ronald McDonald House of Mobile could accommodate up to 12 families but now, after an expansion completed in May of 2011, our House can hold up to 38 families of hospitalized children. We have been open 19 years and have served almost 9,000 families.

Honeybees are known for their astounding teamwork. They might be tiny but by working together, each doing its own small part, these industrious bees build fantastic honeycombs that provide food and shelter for their huge families. They do not do it alone. They do it by working together. Each bee looks out for the good of the hive and the hive looks out for each bee.
This is the concept of Be The Change Gulf Coast. We recognize that sometimes people just need a little help and by working together we can each do a little something to achieve the bigger goal.

The people we help are faced with hard choices like buying groceries or medicine. Because they canât afford both. These are not luxury items; they are every day needs that a lot of us take for granted. For families with one or two working parents that just cannot make ends meet when there is a bump in the proverbial road, our assistance can make all the difference.
Please join our hive! Itâs easy to help. We have an initial mission to find 5,000 people in our area willing to give just $2 a month on auto draft. Thatâs right⊠just TWO DOLLARS per month. This amount is so small youâll never miss it. But when 5,000 of us help each month, thatâs $10,000 and THAT means a lot. Ransom Ministries was founded in 2010 by Matt and Tara Armbruster after they attended a Bible study urging Christians to stop playing church and start living a life of true faith and dependence on God.

The Armbrusters asked God to show them how they could use the gifts He had given them to bring glory to Him. God gave Matt the idea of a cafĂ© where anyone could get a hot meal and pay whatever they could afford and Tara the word âransomâ with the scripture Matthew 20:28. When they began to dissect this verse, they discovered the Greek word that is translated âto serveâ actually means âone that waits on tables,â and âransomâ meant âto liberate many from misery.â They opened the first Ransom CafĂ© in October of 2010 at the Hangar of West Mobile Baptist Church.

Since then, Ransom Ministries has planted several more Ransom Café locations, some of which have changed their names and all of them have taken on their own responsibilities of operating their café. This has allowed Ransom to focus more on Ransom ReProgram, a job readiness and life skills training course that helps participants move out of dependency and into fulfilling careers that Ransom first offered in the fall of 2015. In addition, they also provide on-the-job training through Ransom Recycle, an electronics recycling business. Participants take old, broken, outdated, end of life electronics apart to harvest the things that are of value in them. In addition to the opportunity Ransom Recycle creates for ReProgram students and graduates, it also generates self-sustaining income for Ransom Ministries to be able to accomplish our mission to empower people to overcome spiritual, relational and material poverty through knowing Jesus and utilizing their God-given gifts and talents in their work.

Wilmer Hall Children's Home is a non-profit faith-based organization that has been serving young people in need in Mobile, Alabama since 1864. Wilmer Hall serves children and young adults through several programs that provide tutoring, on-campus living, and other tools needed to succeed. Wilmer Hall currently has five programs: The Residential Program, the Transitional Living Program, the Transitional Family Program, the on-campus after-school education program (called Education4Life), and the Community-Based Education Program. The Community-Based Education program consists of the Philipa Stirling Hamilton Education Center and the Max Miller Education Program.
