In one of Jesus’ teachings, he shocked his listeners by telling them to love their neighbors as they loved themselves. Sometimes, it can be easy to view God as an abstract figure. He's the God of the universe. He's the one who sits in judgment over all of us. He's the Lord. We sometimes feel like there's a chasm between us and Him, even after we come to know Him as our Savior. And sometimes, it can feel like we have to follow all the rules so we don't have bad things happen to us. The truth, however, is that this view is incomplete and rather inaccurate. Here, the Paradigm Switch discusses that while God is the Lord, He is also the Father, and what that means for our relationship with Him.
It is one of the most uncomfortable aspects of the faith. Why is there a Hell? What is its purpose? Who goes there? These can be difficult questions to handle in a conversation, especially with unbelievers, who might attack God's character because of Hell's existence. Further, some are put off entirely by the faith, saying, "Why would I ever want to know a God as hateful as one who sends people to Hell?" Others say that Hell is just one part of the story, that there's something else that needs to be taken into account when discussing Hell. Ambition can be a useful tool to help focus us and give us motivation to keep moving forward, but it can easily be twisted into something dark, leading to terrible misdeeds. Have you ever wondered how God created the universe? When humans create, oftentimes we see what we create in our mind's eye, or our imagination, before creating it. Seeing as we are made in the image of God, it raises the question of whether God imagined all the universe in His eye before going forward with His plan for creation. A common stereotype in today's more rational, scientific, and logic-driven world is that imagination is silly. It's all just daydreaming and there are other things to do. But if imagination is important in creation, should it not be encouraged? Here, the Paradigm Switch discusses the importance of imagination and how it can actually be a double-edged sword.

In the United States today, there are churches that have tens of thousands of members. They are called “megachurches”. However, there is a stigma attached to these “megachurches” that says they are unreliable, they are filled with false teachings, they have bad pastors, and they are leading people astray. Is this true? Are megachurches by default places of false gospel? Is there some sort of inherent corruption to large churches? Or is this stigma wrong? Is it grossly exaggerated? In a world that is increasingly hostile to Christianity, where Christians are regarded as "old-fashioned", it can be tempting to try and change our image by compromising. We compromise our standards of behavior. We try to be more like those around us perhaps because we think the world will then accept us. The problem is that when one compromises on their morals, their entire moral system can be corrupted from the inside out. What are we to do, then, in the face of this social pressure? Here, in the first of a two part episode, the Paradigm Switch examines this issue and points to this conclusion: a Believer must be uncompromising.
Living as a Christian in the West may have been easy in the previous years. Today, however, it is becoming increasingly difficult. Jesus warns Believers that they will be persecuted and "hated for my name" so none of this should be a surprise, but as Christians in the West have generally avoided outright persecution, it can be difficult to realize there is no guarantee this continues. In today's world, it seems that a lot of things are described as "Christian". There is "Christian Universalism", "Christian Science", and "Christian Church". Furthermore, society seems to have an image of Christians that involves words like "loving", "not judgmental", and "non-confrontational". Are these descriptions of a Christian correct? What exactly does it mean to be a Christian in the 21st Century? Here, the Paradigm Switch clears up the confusion and answers these questions using Scripture, God's guide for how to define a Believer and His way of laying out His expectations for people who call themselves His.
In a fast-paced environment, it is easy to become busy. You have work, school, you have to study for the big test, you have a big briefing with the bosses tomorrow. The net result of this can be "I'll get my Bible study done tomorrow" or "I'll have my prayer time later". But the next day is more of the same and so is the day after that and the day after that. When somebody does us wrong or we see others engage in sinful behavior that hurts others, a flare of anger rises up within us. "That was wrong!" we think, upset over what has happened. Anger is a natural emotion we all feel, but it must be properly managed. If not, we risk it twisting us into someone dark and dangerous. There are many people that stand out from the Bible: David, Abraham, Noah, Moses, and Paul are just a few. Their stories are well known. However, the stories of others may not be as well known. But God isn't supposed to, right? Yet sometimes, it feels exactly like He has, and we become disappointed with Him. We all enjoy being told "good job". That feeling of personal satisfaction swells within us. We are good. We are great. We don't need anything from anyone. We are Number One. To understand what constituted the Days of Noah, the past had to be examined. There was the Angelic Invasion of the Earth by those angels that had fallen. Man was tricked and corrupted into sin. Through the unholy union between the Sons of God and Daughters of Man, the Nephilim walked the Earth. And in the end, to save humanity from eternal damnation, God mercifully sent the Flood. The question is: why is this relevant? The answer: Because Jesus predicts the Days of Noah will come again. What does that look like? How should Believers be ready for them? Here, the Paradigm Switch examines Jesus's description of what the Days of Noah will be like when they come again and discusses how Believers should prepare for them.
The story of Noah's ark and the worldwide flood is known throughout the world. Noah, his family, and two of each animal are saved. The rest of humanity is slain. Many say the flood is harsh, the result of a vengeful and wrathful God. "How can He possibly be loving when he destroys the whole world?" they ask. But context is everything. In the days leading up to the flood, humanity is described as corrupted, violent, and evil all the time. Even worse, the Nephilim, the corrupt, evil spawn of fallen angels by human women, roamed the land, corrupting humanity's very blood. Thus, the stakes had never been higher. Satan's victory had never been closer. Something had to be done in order to save humanity from eternal death and suffering. Here, the Paradigm Switch examines the flood and determines the motivation behind it. Was it truly the act of a wrathful, vengeful God? Or was it, in fact, God's last, desperate attempt to save humanity from itself before it was too late?
We know their stories: Jack and the Beanstalk, the Valiant Little Tailor, and Jack the Giant Killer are just a few. But these are myths, mere fairy tales, fictional stories of made-up people. But the Bible tells a different tale. There was a boy with a slingshot going up against a warrior giant. There was a king whose bed measured 13 feet in length. And there was a giant of a man with six fingers on each hand and 6 toes on each foot who went to war. They have something in common: they're related to the Nephilim. But who are the Nephilim? A mysterious group that only appears twice in Scripture, the Nephilim are the subject of this episode of the Paradigm Switch. Here, we investigate these giants, examining who they were, where they came from, and whether they're merely large humans or something far more sinister.
