Shelby expresses her vision and hopes to support young women to have a more positive and powerful future.
The Roelands Mission has always been a place of many stories. This week's guest Les Wallam is someone who knows the history of the Roelands Mission well as he entered the mission as a young toddler. The Indigenous Elder shares about his experience at the Mission including how he became known as a legend within the community in his younger years. Les shares stories from his younger years and how he was called back to this beautiful area of the South West to help assist in the development and rebuilding of the now known Roelands Village. Les is a huge contributor to the Roelands community and is heavily involved in keeping the local Aboriginal culture alive. It is through his volunteering contribution that Les was recognised as the 2019 RAC volunteer award winner.

The Country Women’s Association has had a long, rich history and has been at the heart of country life for almost 100 years! Feeding families, preparing delicious food from their famous CWA cookbook, baking for loved ones and communities in need. However, on this week’s episode, we learn that there is so much more to the privilege of being a CWA member. Kahlia Murray is former president of the new generation of CWA members in Burekup ‘River Valley Belles’. Kahlia speaks to the opportunities she has had through her involvement with the organisation such as discovering new friendships, hobbies and skills while having the chance to advocate for issues that are important to her and her community.
Traditionally seen as an organisation for older women to come together and connect, Kahlia shares how the CWA has grown to move with the times and how being a member has had a significant impact on her life and her community.

Wellington Mill local and accommodation owner of Kingtree Lodge Cheryl Rourke recalls in this episode about the growth and changes she has witnessed in her business, the Ferguson Valley over the years, and most recently how COVID-19 has affected her and the area. The former teacher shares about the physical and emotional adjustments she needed to make; plus the community support she received to help her late husband continue to live in the home and the community he loved while battling Parkinson's disease.

Representing your country in your chosen sport is not something many people have the opportunity to do in their lifetime. However former Wellington Mill resident, Jake Harvie, has had the opportunity to do just that and be a part of the Australian gold medal-winning Kookaburras side at the Commonwealth Games. In our third episode of My Place. My People Series. Jake shares about the rich history of our Australian hockey teams and how the hockey community, from grassroots to elite, provides the right environment for the player to thrive both on and off the field. He also shares the evolution and growth of the international sport and how his family legacy always saw hockey as a real possibility for his future.

On Episode 2 of our Connect Dardanup Podcast ‘My Place. My People.’ Series, host Richard Stacey had the opportunity to chat with Eaton-based Wildlife Warrior Kim Grant. During this 30 minute podcast, recorded at Kim’s Kangaroo sanctuary (also known as her Eaton home) she openly shares everything from establishing Roo Rescue, to the struggles and challenges of working to protect and ensure there is a future for our native icon. Kim has a wealth of knowledge on the delightful marsupial and shared many facts, plus helpful tips about how we can protect our roos and work in harmony with them. Jill Cross, a long-time resident of the Dardanup Shire, has been servicing the community through a diverse range of volunteering endeavours, that have positively impacted and supported our ever growing Shire. During this 30 minute podcast, recorded at Crooked Brook Forrest in Ferguson Valley, Jill shares her memories and pride for the developments that have made the Crooked Brook Forrest a perfect, peaceful day trip destination for all visitors, near and far. She also recalls stories of the highs and lows of organising one of Dardanup’s and the South West's key community events over the past several years.
