Social Audio is no doubt the trendy thing in 2021 but it wasn't till June of 2021 that the wars between platforms have really hit the mainstream.
Clubhouse was the first to market and there were some side apps popping up but just this week Facebook Live Audio and Spotify Greenroom took over the headlines.
But it's easy to compare features and talk about startup app vs big brand app or startup focused on community vs big brand focused on audio...
In this episode, I get away from debating which is better Clubhouse or Twitter Spaces or Spotify Greenroom and move towards what we need to think about when it comes to strategy in a medium that is new...
What are the key steps for a strategy to make success possible
Define and visualize success
The last 45 minutes I pulled up 6 friends to ask questions and share their thoughts doing a little bit of live coaching and strategy work.
We also talked about Discord and the creator economy and the impact this all has with creator coins and how I’m looking at brand partnerships…

Text: PODCAST
To +1 (703) 686-8551 to join the Discord server which launches around MISFIT MAFIA and creator economy:
Three months ago, I had the opportunity to apply for a creator coin on Rally.IO. After researching, I figured it fit well within my influencer marketing, affiliate marketing, brand sponsorship, and executive mastermind blueprint. I could give people the option to purchase with dollars or m coin…
3 months later, and man, was I wrong….
Ok, I guess I wasn’t wrong altogether, but using creator coins in a transactional way is a small aspect of the creator coin value. It’s taken me 3 months of research, testing, and collaborating to truly understand how creator coins IMHO will massively disrupt the creator economy.
Ps. I applied on the website to get the creator coin, and applications are available for anyone… my advice is to think about a unique use case for your 1k true fans! https://vip.rally.io/
On this episode I breakdown:
Lastly why I believe the creator economy’s true power comes down to this simple equation:
Access + Exclusivity + We > Me Mindset = Community Empowerment!
The creator economy, much like the industrial revolution, the consumer economy, and Web 2.0, will take some time to evolve and be adopted universally. Still, as of June 2021, I’m all in on its power to do what I’ve always believed the digital world was meant to do…
Connect good people with good people doing good things together to do great things and be significantly rewarded while doing what you love.
I challenge you to research and think about the unique ways you could be a creator and/or support creator within this economy, as this isn’t financial advice. I’m learning along with you, but I believe the possibilities are endless!

On this episode I changed it up and bringing to you a fun interview I had recently on Grand Baldwins Speaker Lab podcast where I broke down the tips and tricks I'm using on Clubhouse to grow my business as full time public speaker and content creator.
From Speaker Lab:
Have you heard of using Clubhouse for your speaking career? Clubhouse is the hottest app right now and it's by invitation-only.
Friend of the show, Brian Fanzo, is joining us on today's The Speaker Lab. He's here to talk about what it is, how to use it for booking gigs and how it has helped his mental health during the pandemic.
Hear us dive into those Clubhouse-related topics and so much more on episode 331 of The Speaker Lab.
THE FINER DETAILS OF THIS SHOW: * What's the difference between speaking for free versus speaking for no fee? * What is his top tip for using Clubhouse as a speaker? * How is this app like a pop-up mastermind? * Why asking great questions on Clubhouse is the way to stand out. * Is it better to host or participate? * How this app has helped his mental health through this pandemic. * How can you find your groups on this app and insert yourself in their conversations? * Should you have a call to action? * And so much more!

I've spent a massive amount of time on the newest social media shiny object CLUBHOUSE, the social audio app taking over how we connect while also diving into Twitter Spaces as a beta host as well.
On this episode I breakdown why I think social audio is so unique and the impact it will have on other social networks and even my thoughts on what it must inspire us to do as a society!
Even if you aren't on clubhouse or twitter spaces and maybe you were on them but you hate them I challenge you to listen to this episode not because I'm going to convince you of their value rather I believe the greater message is about going back to the past to re-invent the future.
"Clubhouse is the ONLY social network app that prioritizes CONVERSATIONS over CONTENT!"
I believe the future of business is community and innovation is powered by collaboration and there is no social network available that enables these two things more than Clubhouse!
I've also curated using my favorite app Flipboard all of the blog posts and articles on Clubhouse that I feel are worth reading.

I promise you this will be 30 minutes well worth your time as it's time we shift our mindset and open our perspective! I cover each of these tips on the show as well: 1. Live #Podcast Recording of #FOMOFanz the Brian Fanzo show Multistreaming and sponsored by Restream.IO https://restream.io/?ref=PGOMW
FOMOFanz began as a selfish content creation method for me. I was already hosting two interview shows, and running two twitter chats, and I had reached a point of live streaming just to live stream was no longer in my brand strategy. But I knew I needed something that would keep me in the live streaming game, but I didn't want to manage another podcast or live show with guests and other people's calendars...
So I thought what if I did a solo podcast and could record whenever I want and talk about whatever I want... GENIUS!
Since it's launching, the name has changed from F.O.M.O.Fanz to FOMOFanz to FOMO Fanz and the mission statement went from "Helping you embrace your fear of missing out" to "Helping you cure your fear of missing out." In typical form for content I create, I had a broad "niche" that I would attempt to squeeze into. Still, quickly after 5 episodes, I realized as the CEO of Team No Niche that it was just silly. I would talk about a wide range of topics and bring the conversation back to help understand the changing future...
After launching an interview podcast called "Press The Damn Button" I was presented with the question of what I should do with this podcast. Should I merge it within FOMOFanz or keep it separate. Press The Damn Button is modeled after my favorite podcast Arm Chair Expert by Dax Shepard. He does a great job of having a mix of content with interviews, live shows, and "expert on expert" that live within Armchair expert but also have separate feeds.
Before, I decided what I was going to do with FOMOFanz March 2020 hit. Then after attempting to record two episodes and not feeling it for the first time in the 4+ years of the show, I realized anything with the concept of "fear" in it while dealing with a pandemic isn't appropriate. This was also the perfect excuse/valid reason to pause FOMOFanz and move forward with Press The Damn Button. Enter August 2020, 5 months after the pause.
I was fielding lots of comments about if the show would come back, and many of 2019 episodes were getting some fantastic downloads still.
So 168 days after pausing the show, it's been renamed, rebranded, and remodeled once again to FOMOFanz:
The Bran Fanzo Podcast.
And as I reflect back on the 1,370 days since launching FOMOFanz, I'm genuinely thankful for each and every listener that has given me their time. Allowed me to share my thoughts. Allowed me to use this podcast to rant. Allowed me to vent and in many cases, use this show as my own self-therapy. I'm genuinely thankful for each of you and excited for what is next!

There are a ton of tips, blog posts and videos on what you need to do to be successful working from home thanks to the coronavirus forcing so many companies to mandate working from home for their employees.
As someone that has worked from home managing teams as a government contractor for 4 years then went back into the office for 2 years and then working from home for the last 5 years as an entrepreneur I thought it would be of value to share what I've learned works and doesn't work both for me and for those that I've managed.
Interestingly enough the first time I worked from home was prior to being diagnosed ADHD and just that little difference transformed how I approach my work from home life and the way I manage my day.
On this episode I cover
I will be doing some additional videos and content on working from home over the next couple weeks including how I logged and videotaped myself to really double down on being self-aware and adapting my work habits to how I work not the other way around.
Visit BrianFanzo.com/Blog to make read and consume all content on this topic!
Over the last 10 days, we've seen massive events such as Facebook's F8, Mobile World Congress, IBM Think, and Oracle ModernCX announce that they were canceling their global conferences in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic.
This epidemic is having a global impact and closer to home its decimating the meetings industry, and the question we have to start asking is how should planners, brand marketers, and professional speakers be thinking about the future of live events?
Now in context, this disruption is minor compared to those dealing with family members getting sick or dying thanks to this coronavirus, and our thoughts go out to them.
In this episode, I'm joined by a good friend and fellow speaker Erin King who happened to have spent a decade in live event digital marketing. We discuss the epidemic impact on our industries, but more so, the digital OPPORTUNITIES are presenting themselves for both keynote speakers and event planners.
There's no right way or one-way to handle this forced change, and we've seen some events announce that they will be moving to a "global first digital event," while others have postponed the event till 2021.
Erin and I have both spent years in this industry, both planning backstage AND performing onstage. From this unique perspective, in this episode, we share our predictions, recommendation, and ideas around:
How agile planners, marketers, and speakers can re-invent the venue and capitalize on what is actually an exciting opportunity
Why only streaming a keynote via webinar is not a good enough alternative to live
How production schedules can get more creative, immersive and interactive to deliver more compelling experiences for remote audiences
How the roles of event production teams will have to evolve with this "new normal" of experiential
How to elevate your internal budget and planning discussions from "which functionality" to "what type of format"
Why in tumultuous times, organizations need education, inspiration, and motivation more than ever, regardless of the medium used to deliver it
What we believe is the number 1 shift that must occur in the content and format of digital events to "re-invent the venue" and embrace the non-captured attention of a digital attendee.
Why and how almost EVERY digital platform and software has gotten online conferences wrong.
Why we, like speakers and event planners, must coordinate and collaborate on an audience-first approach to supplement what sponsors, attendees, and executives are now missing.
Why the future is bright, and digital opportunities are endless
Now let's be real; there's a reason digital events haven't replaced offline conferences over the last 10 years as nothing will 100% replace the handshake and in-person networking experience.
But both Erin and I believe that this is going to spark a NEW approach to digital events that have been long overdue. In the past, let's face it we're just back to back webinars labeled as "online conference" or a brand live streaming the audio of speakers online and calling that a digital summit.
There will be much more to come on this topic, and some details will be shared soon on the offerings and exact plans Erin and I have in the works to help facilitate these ideas that we discuss on the show.
In the meantime pick up Erin's book and give her a follow on social media

“Done is Better than Perfect”
“If you don’t ask you won’t get!”
Way back in August of 2018 an “Analytical Nerd with a Soft Spot for Strategy” saw me give a video storytelling workshop in Wichita and reached out via Twitter DM to say she was inspired and a fan. She followed up with supportive messages and offering to collaborate in October and November but it wasn’t until Jan when she nudged me again and provided some SEO analysis of my website and digital footprint did she stop me in my tracks.
Since then Brie E Anderson has been working with me on SEO, podcast show notes, blog writing, book editing and more. On this episode, Brie jumps on and we have a chat about her willingness to make cold asks, her unique background which includes a degree in social media marketing and her ability to think like me which has empowered a fun partnership which will be taken to the next step with a new project we are releasing next month.
On this episode we talk about episode 122 “A Digital Futurist Mindset” as Brie calls out aspects of that episode that stood out to her as well as her take on topics such as today’s analysts, social media marketing success, education in its current state (she’s an adjunct professor at WSU Tech) and more…
I have a feeling you guys are going to really enjoy Brie’s unique insights and her ability to push me to discuss topics in more detail and recall moments that I’ve forgotten or overlooked.
As you’ll hear in the show I’m launching a new interview podcast later this month and Brie will play a producer and “fact checking” role on that new show which we can’t wait to debut.
Till then give Brie a follow on her social’s below and as always thanks for listening!
Brie E Anderson:
Brian is fired up and excited for what the future holds and the big changes he has in store. On this episode, he shares that excitement while also giving ACTIONABLE advice on what every brand, small business and entrepreneur must do today to move away from "Future-Proof" and empower a Future-Ready business!
Brian was the first government contractor to brief the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon and not wear a suit and tie. The result of his presentation (on recruiting government employees) sparked a conversation around the importance of conformity versus empowering people for success. He paved the way for positive change in the toughest, regulated environment.
Everyone gets excited about new trends and technologies, but the successful adoption of new ideas requires a culture that enables and supports the change.
Technology should bring people together, not push them apart. In this program, Brian teaches how to leverage new technology and collaboration tools in order to achieve better business results. (Spoiler alert… his advice might surprise you!)
Before you focus on the next shiny object, you must first set the course for your business, learn how to embrace innovation, and identify the right technology for today.

“We need to attract a younger audience!”
“We need to do Snapchat & TikTok as our membership is all over 40”
“We want diversity and younger people but I guess they don’t like joining associations!”
These are just some of the statements that are made when I’m brought in to give a keynote or workshop with an association as they believe “I have the secret weapon for reaching those pesky kids under the age of 40”. The truth is what they are saying is our membership numbers are going down, our members are getting older and we’ve tried every social network and non of them seem to work...
On this episode Brian breaks down some of the key mindset shifts needed to attract this younger more "digitally plugged" consumer:

TikTok took over the social media world in 2019 and as with any new app some people love it, some people bash it and some people are just too overwhelmed to care.
I decided to dive in about 18 months ago to see what it was about and I've been on it almost every day since. But funny enough my focus hasn't been about getting TikTok Famous or even how to market on TikTok rather what about this app can we learn from to use in our other marketing.
So on this episode I breakdown a wide range of lessons I've discovered about TikTok as a marketer but if you want to learn TikTok or become TikTok famous you can read the Social Media Examiner blog post linked below as my focus is:
Not about HOW to use TikTok or really WHAT marketers should do on TikTok rather WHY and where else can we implement what’s working on Tiktok.
I discuss:
I hope I inspire you at the end of the episode to think differently about TikTok and the next shinny object as you don't have to be everywhere but it's important to learn from what's working to be better where you are currently marketing!
Since 2010 I've had the experience of being hired as an influencer, hired to create influencer strategies and run influencer campaigns for brands not to mention buying many many things as a consumer influenced by other influencers.
So on this episode I breakdown this first decade of Social Media Influencer Marketing on what we can learn, how far it came and where it will take us in the future.
Two articles I mentioned in this episode:
Want to hear more on my take on influencer marketing or have me speak at your brand or association on the topic visit my speaker website www.BrianFanzo.com to check out my current programs on the topic!
On this episode, I share MY TAKE on a couple of buzz heavy marketing experiences that I believe were a combination of controversial, genius and a product of today's world.
I can promise you won't hear this take from most marketers or advertising gurus but IMHO all 3 of these examples are great for studying what not to do, what to do and why sometimes doing what you shouldn't becomes the best thing you've done.

Yes these quotes are true but for some of us it's still scary and there's another way to make this work:

The most popular question I’ve gotten over the last 12 months is around what tools do I use to build my personal brand. And more importantly, how do I leverage these tools as part of my overall social strategy.
There is no one-size-fits-all secret tool combination for personal branding success. The main reason I haven’t blogged about all my tools is that I use A LOT of tools. And, I don’t believe any tool is the one perfect tool that does everything. On that same note, I don’t believe every person should use the exact same tools in the exact same way. Not to mention that tools and social media platforms are changing so rapidly it’s hard to stay up to date with all the features and functions.
With all that being said I decided to breakdown the tools I use into different sections and provide you a quick overview of each tool that I use. Please note: just because I use it doesn’t mean it’s a perfect fit for you.
-- Had planned on sharing all the links for all the apps and tools and gear in the show notes but I couldn't get the formatting right so I will be creating a new landing page on iSocialFanz.com to support all of the tools and gear mentioned on this episode.

We are living in times of division, change, innovation, revolution, resolution and chaos so the question becomes Who Wins The Future of Business?

84% of all internet traffic but 2022 will be video!! (via Cisco Index Report)
Video is no longer a nice to have or something I have to spend time on stages or on the podcast convincing people of it’s value but when it comes to using video or convincing non-believers of video this is something we aren’t great at.
On this episode, I’m going to use video as my focus but really I’m going to share my thoughts on:
Press The Damn Button is my mantra but it’s more than just pressing the button once it’s about managing expectations, trying out all the different ways of sharing your story and understanding the value of putting yourself out there.
There is no easy button or short cut and video won’t replace anything you do offline but I firmly believe if you listen to this episode and do what the things I told you to do that video will be a game-changer for your business no matter if you’re an entrepreneur, salesperson, CMO, small business owner, college graduate or retired investment broker.

One of the big success elements of the season 1 podcast I did with Amy Landino called "Just Try This" was people felt as if they were sitting on the couch listening to a conversation more so than an interview.
With this season of FOMOFanz I've teased out the fact that I would be having more guests on the show and this week we start with a bang as I have my good friend, millennial marketing geek and all-around awesome dude Taj Forer the co-founder of Fabl.co on the show.
Taj and I have been good friends for years and get to see each other at a couple of different events a year and not only do we geek out about marketing but also life, entrepreneurship and the fun generational twists that we both experience as we are almost the exact same age.
On this episode, I have Taj share some of his experience moving from the Art design world to the publishing world to now the SaaS martech world with Fabl.co who is also a sponsor of this podcast and the platform I use to host BrianFanzo.com
What we talk about on this episode:
Why the current state of marketing makes us bitter yet excited about the future?
When looking at marketing and content today should we focus on solutions or problems or a combo of both?
What role "design thinking" and creativity should play within software, content and our marketing department
Why Taj loves the Olympics and I love American Ninja Warrior and both of us love them not for the actual sporting aspects.
This action-packed episode is full of great insights and we didn't even get to some in-depth discussions I wanted to have on making the world a better place with online change and the entrepreneur journey good, bad & ugly... So I will be having Taj on again next month to breakdown those topics but for now I hope you enjoyed this episode and make sure to give Taj a follow on social at:

You're tuning in to a SPECIAL episode where you're going to hear the stories and life lessons that I still leverage today from managing my families yogurt shop at 15 years old and traveling to Iraq and Afghanistan while working in cybersecurity for the US government.
I was recently challenged by some friends that I didn't leverage or reference my crazy unique background enough within my keynotes or on my podcast and after some self-examination, they were right. So I decided to do what I always do and embrace the change adding a brand new 20-minute intro segment to my Press The Damn Button keynote at Social Media Day San Diego event this past week.
You'll hear the story of how my Dad didn't close up our family yogurt shop when Dairy Queen moved into the same shopping center and how the soldiers I worked with as a government contractor taught me the importance of empathy, self-awareness and leveraging technology to make us never feel alone even on the battlefields of Iraq.

Every successful person with a niche preaches that you must have a niche to have success...
What about those of us unable to focus on one thing this week let alone a niche?
On this episode I breakdown what those without a Niche or who I'm referring to as #TeamNoNiche have to do differently to stand out from the noise, leverage their personal brand and grow their business that those with a solid niche don't have to focus on as much!
I firmly believe that if you have a niche you should own it and crush it while also knowing that you need to have a plane if the niche fades or value changes...
But for those without a niche that hear things like "Work smarter not just harder" this episode is for you, full of tangible and actionable ways you can still find success without having a current niche!
I’m Recruiting for a new team.... #TeamNoNiche
HIGH FIVE to all those that will never do just one thing & believe it’s ok that they’ll never be able to answer the question of...
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Sorry!! I’ve got no plans on growing up & will never be defined by just one thing and I’m finding massive success without worry of siloing my passions with a niche!

For the past 3 years I’ve had a notebook on my coffee table or really multiple notebooks where I record different notes, emotions and thoughts while binge watching tv. Now just to put it out there I LOVE binge watching tv shows and find its a hobby of mine that allows my brain to switch gears much in the way going to the gym for some people helps them avoid burnout.
The “tv notetaking” started with simple notes or ideas that were invoked while watching my favorite shows like Parenthood or Sons of Anarchy or Making of a Murder documentary and then I began to be more structured in my notetaking. Now when I watch shows I first watch an episode or special with the goal of consuming it as a fan but often times I go back and consume it a second or third time with the goal of studying and analyzing the storytelling.
This past week I took structured detailed notes while watching 3 drastically different programs: Game of Thrones, Brene Brown Netflix Special and Beyonce Homecoming documentary and I was blown away by how much I learned and how I could take something from each to improve my storytelling on my new speaker website, my podcast content and how I tell stories both on video and on stage as a keynote speaker.
On this episode of FOMOFanz I share the structure of the notes, what I look for and how I connect what I learn about camera positioning in Game of Thrones to how I will stand and position a story I plan on telling next week on stage at an event I’m speaking at.
It doesn’t matter if its a book you’re reading or YouTube channel you subscribe to, I believe storytelling is amazing because we can never perfect it and we can also be learning from the stories we consume. I challenge you to listen to this episode and start taking notes
“Daddy when we’re with you, you don’t care if we are ‘funky & fun’ as long as we are happy!”
My middle daughter Kinsley said this to me tonight as we jumped out of my Jeep to meetup with their Mom.
All four us started laughing like crazy as we looked at each-other and realized:
- Youngest was in her pjs & winter jacket!
- Middle one had tiny shorts with her jacket zipped up!
- Oldest was wearing a Pens T-shirt & shorts!
- I was in jeans with giant holes, flip flops & a beanie!
After her comment set in.... I grabbed all 3 girls, a little emotional and told them that no matter how old they are or whom they’re with to always embrace their own “funky & fun” cause doing what makes you happy will inspire those around you to be happy and isn’t that what life’s all about!
This moment really hit home for me beyond the obvious parenting win... It's the role of "Funky & Fun" when it comes standing out, being yourself and living your best life...
I would even go as far as to say most people when they see my backward hat, crazy colored shoes and pager on stage they assume that's a lesson I learned from Steve Jobs and him wearing the same black turtle neck every day... Well, you're wrong and on this episode the first one after the big 100 celebration I breakdown how this little moment with my 7-year-old daughter captured everything about me and what I believe in around finding happiness, living your best life and standing out from the noise in this crazy noisy world!

I teased out details on my new #DigitalEmpathy project and you'll get more on that soon but for now I'll give you a little of FOMO as you wait....
Thanks for listening and giving me a little bit of your day as I love what I do and love sharing my thoughts and insights on this show and its you the listeners that inspire and motivate me to keep on keeping on!

November 2016 I launched FOMOFanz with the commitment to do 100 episodes....
This is episode 100 and it's been a journey not only within the podcast and my business career but my life...
I was living the "American dream" then hit rock bottom and discovered depression which led to true self-awareness which opened me up to self-love which ultimately has brought me to today where I can honestly say I'VE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER...
Enjoy a real & raw look as I share it all and whats happened over these first 100 episodes and where I believe my lifes work is taking me!
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING AND SUPPORTING THIS SHOW!

When I say Twitter changed both my personal and business life I mean it and it continues to be a gateway for life-changing moments for me. I remember where I was when I got followed by @GaryVee on Twitter, I remember the moment Vala Afshar reached out and asked if I wanted to jump on a phone call and I remember being invited to a dinner by Jay Baer at a social media event because in his words “he wanted to get to know me more and say thank you for the support of his content.”
As a proud pager-wearing millennial keynote speaker I get the pleasure of debunking myths and translating “millennial habits” for brands shifting the perspective around generational labeling and in some cases, explaining that the stereotypes aren’t wrong.
But one of the millennial habits that I love to highlight and drive attention to is the fact that most millennials want to feel a part of something and are open about their desire to be mentored and celebrate those they look up too. In this same notion, millennials also are shifting what they consider a great leader as they believe it’s no longer just about your experience and knowledge rather your ability to educate those around you with that knowledge and experience. The other aspect of this millennial lead shift is thanks to social media the distance between those we lookup to and those we consider our mentors has been shrunk to being as little as 280 characters away or in this case a Facebook suggestion to follow @FindTroy
Paying it Forward Thanks To Social Media Isn’t A Yearly Initiative Rather A Daily Focus!
For me reading two books Jay Baer’s YouTility and Gary Vaynerchuk’s Jab Jab Jab Right Hook transformed my philosophy around social media helping me adopt my mantra of #ShowUcare. #ShowUCare was my community and content strategy from giving my content away for free, engaging and caring about every person that engages with me no matter their follower count and probably most importantly going out of my to show I cared about others before I ever wanted them to care about me or what I do.
This is something that hit home recently for me after reading Seth Godin’s email newsletter where he simply stated:
“Remarkable work is usually accomplished by people who have non-typical priorities” -Seth Godin
So as my iSocialFanz brand awareness has increased and I’ve been able to grow an amazing engaged community I’ve made it my mission to not only continue to #ShowUcare but also find ways to give others that feeling and memory I had when GaryVee, Vala Afshar and Jay Baer took the time to show me they cared.
So what does all this have to do with millennials and a facebook friend request…… Well, you’ll have to listen to the episode but I can promise you that what went down after I sent a friend request to Troy Sandidge will be something I never forget and I believe will have a lasting impact on both of us for years to come.
Please enjoy this podcast episode where I interview my newest Facebook Friend Troy Sandidge who just happened to make me speechless with his post after accepting my friend request. And that was just the start as he did it again after jumping on the podcast and sharing his story of optimism, resiliency and genuine hard work. The man has had 3 brain surgeries, was only 2lbs at birth and lost his mother as a teenager yet his outlook on life can best be described as “calm, positive and thankful.”
I challenge you after listening to this episode to think about Troy’s battles before complaining about your bad luck and rather than spending time making excuses use that time to #ShowUcare about others in your community and your life as you never know the impact that will have or the places it could lead you, including being a guest on your favorite podcast.

The world needs more empathy, I believe this is something we can all agree on but what does that mean? For many when they think about being empathetic they immediately think about their interaction with others. Which is the key principle of empathy but I believe to be an empathetic leader not only must you recognize and share in the feelings of others but you must make changes to empower others to recognize and share in your own feelings.
Fatzo, yes that's what Brian was called growing up....
Which ok is a fun play on his last name Fanzo but you might be wondering why he would share that & how does it have anything to do with empathy. Well you'll have to listen as it's not often host Brian Fanzo dives into "Leadership" focused episodes but this theme is not only close to his heart but it goes far beyond leadership but it needs to start with leadership NOW!
Brian discusses the differences between failure & vulnerabilities as well as addressing the core aspects of empathy and why we must move from realizing "The world needs more empathy" to understanding the mindset shifts required to go on this path and start changing today!
Definitions included in this show include:
Also Brian references this quote from Brene Brown:
"our purpose in life is connection, and connection can only happen as a result of authenticity."
You'll have to listen to the episode to hear the 2 mindset shifts but Brian believes 100% in this mission mainly because its not that he believes it's possible but he is living proof.
Practice What We Preach:
Brian walks through a long list of things that he's learned about himself that he used to be embarrassed about but now realize are what make him unique which are included below as he broke them down into two categories:
Skills that I’ve found essential yet not focused on early in my career:
Growing up Brian was embarrassed by these qualities that were often called out and in many cases the focus of bullying..
Hope you enjoyed this episode and would to hear your thoughts on the topic as well as suggestions for future episodes!

Many keynote speakers introductions include "unique background" but our host Brian Fanzo really does have one from growing up at the beach to playing college hockey to majoring in computer science to working in the government in cybersecurity to working in a datacenter to running a marketing media company to becoming an entrepreneur and keynote speaker and you can add professional poker player to that list.
Brian doesn't do anything halfway and that included his time playing professional poker which included traveling around the world to play games, playing in the world series of poker in las vegas and being a regular in Scottsdale Az at the Talking Sticks Resort.
On this episode, Brian breaks down the similarities of poker with that of entrepreneurship and marketing including one that most don't think of in bridging skills offline & online or for poker it's casinio to online.

On this episode host Brian Fanzo is fired up and in the mood to rant as so many entrepreneurs and those in digital marketing are looking up to and following the wrong people when it comes to business.
"Be careful who you model your business after...
Many have followings, write books, are on podcasts & live video yet make little to no money in the digital space! Look for those that are strategic & transparent with everything the do while also providing value worth paying for!"
How does Brian know this, he did the same thing for multiple years and once he realized he figured out how to split up his friends in the industry between those who are friends doing great things and those who are friends that are building a business in a way and process that I want to follow.
Brian shares how he looks at leaders and breaks down the difference between having imposter syndrome because others are saying it and being inspired knowing that others are talking but those aren't people that are building a business or are talking to his community.
"What you are screams so loudly in my ears I cannot hear what you are saying."

My goal of this podcast wasn't to help people embrace FOMO rather CURE their Fear Of Missing Out but for many they approach the entire concept of FOMO with the wrong perspective and don't get me started on how marketers have overused FOMO rather than being strategic with it…
On this episode I cover:

Fyre Festival was a disaster and thanks to the Netflix & Hulu documentaries that were released recently there’s been a ton of buzz around the con as well as the strategies and tactics used by the event and the agencies working on it.
After watching both Fyre Festival documentaries on Netflix and Hulu I sat back on my couch with the tv off for well over an hour taking notes on my feelings and thoughts for the shit show that was the Festival, the horrible human con man Billy McFarland, how badly I felt for those that paid money to attend the event and also all those screwed out of money and never paid for the work they completed…
But beyond all that I was also sick to my stomach at how HORRIBLE both documentaries portrayed and SHAMED the attendee’s of this event, millennials as a generation, value of social media, role of influencer marketing and role/impact of digital marketing agencies!
The entire Fyre Festival is a case study in itself of what BAD people can do with great power and visibility but I would take it a step further and say both of these documentaries took it upon themselves to attack industries, generations, and professions based on this one massive one big bad example.
I preach on every stage that we MUST focus more on the good people doing good things to drown out the bad while learning from the bad examples but understanding they are the exceptions, not the rules!
After watching both documentaries and looking over my notes I decided to do my own research online reading 20+ blogs that covered the event and watching each documentary a second time to see if my opinion and thoughts changed while also doing my best to focus this time on only the business lessons learned.
I will admit it was hard to focus only on the business lessons while watching as both documentaries are very slanted in their portrayal of the event with each having their own agenda which as a marketer I completely understand and can see through while also believing that many who watched these documentaries aren’t as aware of which inspired me to do my best to filter the noise and break down my insights into two different sections, the Fyre Festival event itself and the documentaries.
On this episode I cover:
Now I didn’t attend the event and although I followed it closely on social media prior to the event and as the event was taking place I won’t claim to know everything rather I wanted to share my thoughts based on what I’ve read and what I watched of the documentaries.
Side Note: There are so many lessons that can be learned from this but one that I hope we highlight is that GOOD PEOPLE will rally for GOOD PEOPLE always and that’s the case with the GoFundMe account happening right now raising money for the owner of the Exuma Point restaurant already raising over 180k+:https://www.gofundme.com/exuma-point-fyre-fest-debt and a second GoFundMe for the workers of Bahrain: https://www.gofundme.com/the-exuma-foundation-for-victims-of-fyre-festival
I’d love to hear your thoughts by tweeting me @iSocialFanz
The idea of personal branding is not new, in fact many would argue marketers have been beating the personal branding drum to an almost annoying level over the past 7 years.
Personal brand adoption seems to have taken hold with entrepreneurs, executives and those that consider themselves a “thought leader” but I believe not until every employee, manager and business owner embrace it will we understand the true power of personal branding.
I’ve never liked the phrase personal branding so when I’m coaching clients or giving keynotes I try to explain that what we are investing in is your first impression, your reputation, your resume and the framework for your legacy.
In 2019 I would argue that in both personal and professional life we are in the business of building TRUST and that trust is established, amplified and directly related to the personal brand you are growing daily.

I don't think of myself as a creative as I can't write or sing or dance or draw but I do love telling stories and creating content to grow my business and tell my story and often people are confused on why I do this and what value it has for my business.
On this episode I'm going to tackle the following questions around my strategies, struggles, and insights into creating content as a Business Minded Content Creator:
Why I use my content and community as my outbound marketing strategy?
Mindset shift required to create content to a community that you aren't directly monetizing
What value does free content have for brands that want to sponsor your content or hire you as an influencer?
Why does the strategy have to be different for a creative vs a business-minded content creator?
Why it's sometimes more valuable to connect and create content for those who influence your end buyer than your end-buyer directly?
Value of relatability and community as an entrepreneur and content creator

When I think travel I immediately think about Instagram and the travel influencers I know that are making it big having the “dream job” of getting paid to travel the world. But as I’ve been working and speaking at travel/hospitality events in 2018 the tone of most in the audience is of one that either feels digital has hurt their brand or they aren’t sure how to sell what they do on social media.
On this episode, I share my experience at an amazing luxury travel event that I spoke at called Virtuoso Travel Week and I discuss the following questions and points:

Every business must be on Facebook and Instagram! No, I disagree but I would say that every business and brand no matter the industry can find massive business value leveraging Facebook and Instagram in 2018 and beyond.
On this episode, I piggyback on episode 071 where I talked about the business value of Twitter with a focus on Facebook and Instagram that spurred one of the LARGEST live podcast audiences I’ve ever had with well over 2k questions, comments, and thoughts on this topic.

I teased out an episode on this show about Linkedin and that episode will be coming in the near future but in the meantime feel free to read this blog I wrote on Linkedin Video: http://www.isocialfanz.com/linkedin-video/
Twitter is a social network that for many is confusing and overwhelming and Twitter hasn't exactly done a great job at marketing itself or helping people truly understand its platform. I mean they spent years fighting against Facebook only to come out and say they don't think they compete with Facebook (I agree) and they are really a real-time social news platform.
But the thing about Twitter is, It changed my life both personal and professional and I believe every brand can benefit by spending time on twitter in a couple key areas which I go into detail on this episode. Those areas are:
I'm not sure why Twitter became less sexy for brands or entrepreneurs to talk about but I firmly believe while everyone is focused on Facebook ads and Instagram, you can stand out and find massive business value on Twitter in 2018 and beyond.

I’m not interested and the fact you keep emailing me has inspired me to block your email address therefore you’ve not only lost the chance to sell me today but also in the future! What's the worst advice you've given....
It's time to set the record straight on some of this BS that is being told to our future generation.... it's also important to remember that TIMES HAVE CHANGED and some advice that we were given in the 90's is no longer of value in 2018 and beyond thanks to digital!

On this show I tackle these common questions around the future of work, empowerment, and collaboration:

What about those damn millennial / GenZ job hoppers?
Role of work from home continued growth?
Culture outside the walls of HQ?
What role does trust play in today's workforce?
Are we going to be replaced by Artificial Intelligence and Robots?
Why do I feel the entrepreneurship craze will burst in this new world of work?

Guests are BACK!!! On this extra-long episode of FOMOFanz, I decided to share my thoughts on the most recent drama around “Delete Facebook” but I didn’t want to do that alone so I brought on Vincenzo Landino CEO of Aftermarq and Vincent Orleck Head of Social Media at AttictSalt
I grabbed these two guys and asked them to jump on the show to not only add some unique vantage points to the most recent social media changing landscape but also because they are two of my closest friends and genuine humans! (Recorded live on Facebook Live at 8pm)
We planned on talking about all of the crazy updates happening over the last couple weeks in social media from Facebook Messenger to YouTube Live to Twitter Verification to Snapchat data sharing but the discussion was so good we only got a chance to cover the following items without this episode turning into a 2 hour show:
We also gave some love to these projects, brands and friends:
Amy Landino: Author of Vlog Like A Boss and my guest on episode 015 of FOMOFanz.

I believe every person no matter your job or industry must embrace the fact that they are the producer of their own reality tv series about their life. Now I don’t mean the over produced and fake versions of reality tv rather the real, raw and unfilter access types that make you feel like you could be on that show or that one of those reality tv stars reminds you of a friend of yours.
Our first impression in 2018 and beyond happens online and having a website or being on social media isn’t enough anymore. How do you tell your story, how do you make people feel emotion or how do you create an experience for your community. The answer is content!

Facebook Strategy in Light of the Facebook Apocalypse
Facebook has long preached the importance of social media being an extension of human to human interactions but lacked the platform or algorithm to reward brands for doing so. This all changed on January 11, 2018, as Mark Zuckerberg stated that: “If what we’re here to do is help people build relationships, then we need to adjust.”
Brian will walk the audience through the strategy shift to create meaningful community interactions, empower employees, and leverage both influencers and fans. He will cover:
· Social Media Changes: The latest news feed change and how that impacts organic reach and Facebook Ad spend.
· Conversational Content: How to build a content strategy from the fans perspective focusing on creating “participatory content” targeted at an active audience rather than social spectators.
· People Empowerment: What role employee advocacy and influencer relations will have on creating social media conversations and organic reach of content on social media.
· 4 T’s: Framework needed to embrace this change & build a scalable strategy through Trust, Transparency, Training and Technology.

I'm on the board of 5 startups as a strategic advisor which I love doing but as a speaker most of the events I attend and brands I work with are industry, enterprise or larger association. This past week one of the startups I advice, Fledge Connect, placed in the top 50 for the Startup Grind competition allowing them to go to the global event in Redwood Ca to pitch VC's, have a booth and participate in the event.
Although I had heard of Startup Grind, this was my first time attending one of their events and this global one is a big one with over 7k startups and 2 full days of speakers.
When arriving at events I always try to have done research prior on previous years while also seeing how they try to set themselves a part and the first sign I saw at Startup Grind set the vibe for the entire event and inspired this podcast episode.
The sign said simply "Our Values"
Many events preach community and collaboration but seldom is it something built into the culture of company, the event and all of the attendees.
I was so inspired I decided to breakdown a few key things that stood out to me!
Check out www.StartupGrind.com as they have 350+ locations around the globe. I wasn't paid to be there or paid to create this show but I left the event so inspired I had to share it with you guys only hours after getting home from a red-eye. I hope you enjoy!
When most hear about selling online they either think about the overused term “social selling” or they think about the infomercial style selling where brands push webinars, online courses and free downloads in consumers faces to get them on their email list so they can hammer them with email upsells and limited space available marketing crap.
I do believe in the power of social selling and know many people who do it well but the reason the other time of online selling works is because consumers have put up with it while realizing some of it might be valuable but most won’t. Well in 2018 the digital attention of consumers has shifted away from these tactics and consumers are looking at new ways to gain new experiences and connect with stories and marketing that they feel is important.
The Secret to Great Digital Storytelling!
Relatability! Why is most business done on the golf course at the hair salon or wherever else you are other than your actual physical work location. It’s because you become relatable and people connect with you at a much deeper level than what you do or what you’re selling. Sadly even though most of us understand this, when we move to digital and want to find similar results online we are only willing to talk about our work and want to appear perfect and have control of everything. Not only does that not work but it shouldn’t be a surprise because it doesn’t work offline either.
On this episode I pull from some examples I found last week while speaking at three unique events: Training Learning & Development Conference, Gi Sports Paintball Distributor Day and US Sailing Leadership Forum. All 3 events hired me, an outsider, to come in and give a keynote on the importance of digital storytelling and embracing change to grow with the digital native consumers. Although I wasn’t an expert in their industry or sport I was able to find examples and scenarios that they could understand and all 3 events went amazingly well and it’s because I was able to be relatable.
After listening to this episode I want you to ask yourself, what works for selling my product or service or business offline and how can I take who I am and what sells offline and include that in my digital story online.
“3 out of 4 Millennials would choose to spend their money on an experience rather than buying something desirable.” Via Eventbrite: The Experience Movement: Research Report
To create a great experience online and tell your story in a way that connects with those outside your close circle or business community you must be vulnerable, you must find ways to tell your story and ultimately your success will be determined by your ability to be relatable!
The concept of influencer marketing isn’t new but how brands can leverage influencers and what works for collaborating with an influencer has drastically changed over the last 18 months.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a small business or an enterprise there are people that use your product or service that influence others through their actions, their words or simply their trust in that person. The hard part is finding the right influencer then mapping out what success looks like for you the brand and how you’ll measure that success.
On episode 61 of FOMOFanz, I share the mindset changes and critical steps required for brands to be successful with influencer marketing all the way from finding the right influencer to managing influencer expectations to ultimately creating a partnership built on trust with influencers that have unique communities that create different types of content.
I’ve had the luxury of first being identified as in influencer in 2014 by IBM, then working with brands like Applebees, Cox Business, SAP and the Superbowl to build influencer marketing and I believe even in my short time in this space so much has changed and the value and plan for influencer marketing in 2016 wouldn’t work in 2018.
I’d love for you to listen to this episode as I share a bit about my experience but more importantly break down each of the below critical aspects that done correctly will lead to a successful influencer marketing partnership both moving the business needle and establishing a long-term relationship with the influencer and their community!
Define what success looks like and how to measure that.
Micro-Influencer why they work for brands of all sizes
Hiring the right people to source & how to properly outreach to influencer
Managing expectations and partnering with the influencer to reach a shared goal.
Content collaboration is far more than an influencer takeover or influencer creating content on their own channel.
Field of dreams marketing is broken, you must engage with the community where the community is and be active in building trust with the community alongside the influencer
Making the partnership beneficial for the influencer doesn’t require it being a paid relationship but it does require the brand to understand what matters to the influencer

Facebook is now focused on facilitate the most meaningful interactions between PEOPLE, rather than the previous mandate of helping people find the most meaningful content... Full press release here.
Why this shift?
Mark Zuckerberg stated that: “If what we’re here to do is help people build relationships, then we need to adjust.”
So what does this mean for your business, what impact will this have on content creation and social media marketing as a whole? I believe this will have a massive impact and a positive one once people understand the shift and are open to a new focused strategy on using social media especially Facebook to facilitate conversations, inspire and motivate their community and most importantly become relatable through leveraging initiatives such as employee advocacy and influencer marketing.
I've been preaching for many years that "Community is the future of business" and I believe Facebook with these changes will start empowering those brands that invest in community rather than those that gamify the system by sharing viral videos that simply attract spectat
The idea of what an entrepreneur is the value of entrepreneurship has drastically transformed over the last many years. No matter which way you turn you are flooded with online courses teaching you how to get rich quick and the pontification of entrepreneurs that upon reaching great success want to highlight their rags to riches “memories.”
But few talk about their failures while they are failing, their struggles as they are struggling or the crazy rollercoaster ride that is entrepreneurship in 2018. I decided to change up the conversation around entrepreneurship on my most recent episode of FOMOFanz, as I worked 9 years for an enterprise company and 2 years as a startup before becoming an entrepreneur 5 years ago and it’s no doubt been the hardest thing I’ve ever done. In 2016 I wrote: The Key To Entrepreneurship Is What You Don’t Know & Entrepreneurship Taught Me I Suck At These 10 Things but little did I know at the time that 2017 would be the hardest year for me.
Do you ever feel like you lost your way as an entrepreneur?
Do you question if you hit rock bottom?
Are you pivoting your business because it seems like everyone else is doing it a different way and finding success?
Do you find yourself celebrating others success while secretly wondering what you are doing wrong as an entrepreneur?
Do you question if entrepreneurship is right for you monthly, while weekly celebrating the fact you work for yourself and love what you do?
Well, you aren’t alone and on this episode, I shared my thoughts on all of these topics while getting personal about what I’ve learned this past year and why I’m 100% confident that I’m going to crush 2018.
Entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone and in 2018 the ability to consume, create, watch and learn often times can be overwhelming while at the same time if you have the right mindset and surround yourself with the right people turns out to be one hell of a journey.
Please have a listen and share this episode with anyone who is an entrepreneur or thinking about diving into entrepreneurship as the rags to riches stories are far and few between and sadly many jump into being an entrepreneur with all the wrong reasons and false expectations.
ons and false expectations.
On FOMOFanz I have the luxury of talking about the future emerging technology Digital transformation the latest thing in digital marketing each week so on this episode I decided to focus on trans and why I think some of those trends are good and some of them are going to lead to really bad branded podcasts.
The trends I discuss on this episode range from the idea that technology won't work to fix bad rules, for example, the Steelers versus patriots Game with the bad overturned call to how I think the explosion of audio will lead most brands to launch a podcast in 2018 and kill that same podcast in 2018.
I'm always excited about the future but as you'll hear throughout this podcast I believe it's up to us the empowered consumer to celebrate those brands doing it right rather than what we usually focus on which is the mistakes and failures brands make when it comes to jumping on trends.

The world we live in today is no doubt full of change infused with innovation and new technologies but for many, this is overwhelming or leads to repetitive failures across their business organization. I believe technology isn't scary, change is often presented in the wrong way and go about implementing our version of success in a way the puts too much emphasis on the technology and not enough on the people, the mindset or the need to create a scalable process.
On this episode, I break down my four T’s for successful change and the order of the T’s is most important. I believe 2018 Will be the year that businesses who are doing great things and value the great employees and the customer experience we'll shine especially those built on the foundation of trust, training, transparency, and technology.

Special cross-over episode.... Episode 95 of SMACtalk was so full of fire I wanted to bring the full episode here to FOMOFanz.
My co-host Daniel Newman and I begin the discussion talking about the value of Facebook and how it's changed in its value for businesses but also entrepreneurs spending time on the platform. The live audience listening on Facebook Live then took the conversation in a much more dynamic direction as we started discussing business value and priorities of entrepreneurs and making sure VALUE is something we all examine on a regular basis!
Hope you'll enjoy this special episode!
“Organic Facebook is now the office water cooler. Nothing more.”
This episode started out discussing this claim co-host Daniel Newman made about the trends he’s been seeing lately on Facebook.
As Daniel and co-host, Brian Fanzo began to discuss the changing landscape of Facebook and all social media channels for that manner the discussion took an interesting turn invoking a wide range of emotions and comments from the live video audience that you can read about below. This episode might be a bit of a change of pace from the traditional SMACtalk discussions but the underlying foundation of this discussion can be translated across every aspect of your business today!
More of Daniel’s Statement here:
It has truly returned to its roots of being purely a place to BS and talk about politics, family, sports, and news, but compared to the time that many people spend on it, it has almost no business value.
Here is an easy way to tell. If you share something on FB that is closely connected to your work, what kind of engagement do you get? Now, share an article about your kids or politics and see what happens. If I share an article about cloud, semiconductors or IoT, I get almost nothing. If I share a picture of my kids I get a day or two of endorphin rising notifications.
Over the past couple of months I've spent much less time here, but I've actually become a better customer to Facebook because instead of using it Organically, when I share business related things I put paid behind it so the content reaches a very targeted audience that could potentially consume what I'm trying to share/sell/spread. Furthermore, I've realized that the time I spent here and the "Influence" built here has no correlation to the work I do nor does it for many others. This has since been further proven as I've never been busier with client work when I was spending less time being distracted by a few interesting discussions and a littering of mind-numbing self-serving opining and a sprinkle of self-promotional content that makes me further understand why people don't want to see such content from me. Also, studies have shown it takes 25 minutes to return to work following a distraction. As a partner in multiple businesses, I find this troubling to consider how those constantly being lured in by these distractions are able to produce at even a fraction of their potential. This maps to a conversation about the future of work and compensation that will have to wait for another day.
Now, having said that, Facebook is a perfectly great place to have the water cooler talk. It is nice to spend time catching up on world events and having the chance to debate them and do it in volume. However, I seriously doubt many people are able to look at their time spent here critically and come to the conclusion that there is a good return on their investment of time. Facebook is great to reach an audience, but really this is a paid vehicle, not an organic one. If you aren't selling MLM, then most client acquisition won't take place here and you would be better suited to make your connections on LinkedIn or Twitter or a more specialized group setting that has more targeted audiences.
And yes, I realize some people will not agree with me. Some may even lecture me as to why I'm wrong. I'll hear about the many great relationships that have been built here (and those are important too). But I would also suggest that odds are some good things would have happened for those people had they spent the same time on other networks or at risk of sounding crazy, that time spent working.
Okay...I could go on and on, but I'll stop here. And I'll come back to look at some point, but not until I'm done with stuff that makes the hay.
Next look for a barrage of pics of the kids and dog. Because that is what people really want to see here
Three years ago when someone mentioned the idea of artificial intelligence most people would assume they were going to start referencing Star Wars, Robocop, Terminator, Space Odyssey and the Jetsons. In 2017 A.I. has taken on an entire new trend as more businesses start to invest in the technology and more references are being made to A.I. with tools and technology we use everyday.
Some of the things discussed on this episode:
History of Artificial Intelligence:
1956 - Dartmouth Professor summer project to study “every aspect of learning”
The first definition of AI: "every aspect of learning or any other feature of intelligence can in principle be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it.

A story is powerful because it relates to the audience and allows the audience to put themselves not only in the shoes of the story and the storyteller but oftentimes allows them to feel part of the story. Augmented reality, virtual reality and the adoption of artificial intelligence will soon allow the audience to truly put on the shoes in the story and interact with emotion and dynamic feelings transforming how we experience digital stories.
This is why I love podcasting because when it comes to storytelling audio-only content allows for contextual emotions to be facilitated as well as opening up the listener's curiosity, giving them the freedom to explore.
What I want you to start thinking about is that as we add more technology to automate the repetitive tasks, what new questions will you be able to ask and what tasks will you now be able to prioritize. I believe that we're going allow ourselves to do what humans do best which is truly emotionally connect, adding context allowing us to see, to feel and to understand people better.
Innovation such as emotional intelligence being incorporated in augmented reality, virtual reality and artificial intelligence is really where we're going to see true storytelling take off.
I share some examples including my daughter interacting with Alexa and my twitter customer service experience with Comcast in episode 053.
This is exciting times my friends. If you're not excited if you are overwhelmed if you are confused by some of these technologies that I was talking about. Stay tuned. How to make an ask to get the answer you want in a digital world full of distractions and 100's of ways to communicate?
It’s mostly common sense but I think we often forget the basics in this crazy digital world and I tried to cover some of the basics and questions I’m always asked!
"Build up social equity strategically building relationships that will be actionable and valuable!"
I cover these questions and more on this episode and also give some love to the live facebook live audience and some friends who I think are great at doing this type of relationship building in a digital world.

What role will transparency and authenticity play in our digital future? We often hear leaders especially marketers use the terms transparency and authenticity follow it up with phrases like “I hate that word” or “I know it's a buzzword but.” In my opinion, this not only takes away from the validity of these two powerful personality traits but it also sheds a light on the person who is talking about those terms.
On this episode, I apologize for not pushing a new show live the last couple weeks and I try to share my thoughts on this topic based on some very interesting debate and conversation I've had on stage and off during my last six keynote presentations.

The C-suite has lost its way when it comes to testing out new technology and selecting the right software and tools for the business. As we moved from on-premise/installed software to cloud computing we also moved from testing and setting up “bake-offs” for analyze tools to a cloud computing model that often time involves the executive reading about a new tool in a Forbes blog post and buying it with the company credit card and telling the employees to use it.
We must change how we test and analyze tools and include the technology users and tech savvy employees in our company in our boardroom decision making process for selecting tools and technology in 2017.
Why does this matter when we move to artificial intelligence, internet of things, augmented reality, virtual reality and more…. You’ll have to listen to find out!

I decided to change it up on this episode of FOMOfanz as I switch to the other side of the microphone for two very unique interviews I did on the topic of influencer marketing. As you'll hear in both interviews I tried to provide a unique perspective as someone that grew his brand as an influencer and has worked with 30 different companies in an influencer capacity while also being someone that has implemented influencer marketing campaigns and works with brands in 2017 to build out strategies for brands in both the B2B and B2C space.
First half of this episode is my interview on the Onalytica Podcast where the focus of the interview is on the on the importance of influencer marketing in 2017 and how to #ThinkLikeaFan
Second half of this episode I joined the Influence Pros weekly show hosted by Heidi Sullivan of Cision and Julianna Vorhaus of TapInfluence to discuss Why Engaged Influencer Communities Trump Influencers With High Following!
Topics covered in this episode:
Quotes From This Episode
”No one event, no one gig, no one opportunity is worth losing the trust and authenticity I have with my community.” —@iSocialFanz
”People want to be able to engage and have conversations with you.” —@iSocialFanz
“A mutual understanding of unfiltered trust and transparency so we can learn from each other. I think that is the future.”1 —@iSocialFanz
“I actually think of an influencer now as three different types. I think of an influencer as a social amplifier, or a celebrity type. The second type being subject matter expert or someone that is really the one that is boots on the ground practitioner. And then the third one being the thought leader, the one that has the read, has the stage, but also is the one that knows who the right expert is to connect with and often times who the right amplifier is.” —@iSocialFanz
“The strong influencers of today are not people that ever mention how many followers they have, they talk about how many people they engage with, how many conversations.” —@iSocialFanz
As a millennial going from DHS to DVD and from a tape cassette to CD were two massive changes the drastically shifted when I was a teenager was spending my money on. Our shift from on premise software installation to on demand in the cloud as well as the shift from Mobile friendly to mobile everything didn't just change and Industry for the buying habits a high schooler's it shifted the way we live work and play around the world.
No wonder change is hard and change is scary for so many as we've never been trained or exposed to the digital change that is happened for last five years and will continue for many years to come.
It's not about shifting our mindset or adjusting our daily workflow rather we must reboot and reformat how we look at change how we embrace change how are you teach change and most importantly how we leverage change to make our lives and the world a better place.
I've always believed that people who were scared of change mostly made up of two kinds of people. Those who looked at change as the result of bad decisions a disaster are uncontrollable circumstances. The second kind of people are those that are afraid of the unknown and believe did rather hold on to what they have today no matter if the results of tomorrow could be worse or better.
In order in order to reformat our mindset so we are open to change we must embrace these 7 mindset hacks which if you do, I believe you’ll go from hating or fearing change to falling in love with it.
Why do we read about “Messy desks equal people who are smart and hard workers” because those trying to make an organized perfect desk that they can control are too busy doing that to write blog posts.

If brands created an experience and community that inspired fandom like sports does in every city around the world, would brand marketing stop feeling the need to disrupt every good blog or video with an annoying call to action or ruin every social media platform with self promotional content?
Fan’z?
When most people hear the word “fan” they immediately think of sports and someone who dresses up in their favorite teams colors for every game.
Disruption?
When most people hear the words “disrupt or transformation” they immediately think of starting something new or blowing up the old.
On this episode I breakdown my “Think Like A Fan” philosophy that focuses on the mindset required to disrupt today’s marketing status quo to prioritize your digital marketing efforts in building trust and relating with employees, customers and prospects.
I discuss these 6 mindset shifts required to embrace a Think Like A Fan strategy:

The rate of change is like nothing we’ve seen before and thanks to cloud technology, mobile devices and the desire for companies to embrace digital transformation that rate isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
I love change, I even get introduced on stage as a Change Evangelist but getting leadership or my manager or my co workers to embrace the change I want to lead hasn’t always been fun or successful.
When you start breaking down how much change is happening around us in business and our personal lives it's no wonder that most people when presented with a pitch or idea of change immediately default to NO. While at the same time most have realized that you can’t fight change or stop change, therefore if you don’t embrace it or just say no the only thing you’re doing is pushing off the change today waiting for it to be presented or forced upon you tomorrow.
I decided to breakdown the change agent roles I’ve had in my career both at the Department of Defense as a contractor in cyber security for BAE Systems as well as the technology evangelist at IO data centers. There are some themes and trends that ring true across both of those jobs and interestingly enough when I looked at the successful change examples they all fell into 3 paths to driving change.
3 Paths to Change:
I breakdown those 3 paths, why I believe you must always try to make your manager look good and why I love quoting Bill Murray from the movie What About Bob in this episode of FOMOFanz.
I often talk about the value of social media to help change the world and make it a better place. Talking about it is a start but to truly make an impact we must put it into action.
Last year I discovered an organization known as ERASE a group of leaders dedicated to erasing the child trafficking epidemic here in the United States. ERASE’s mission is to:
"be a unifying voice creating a cultural shift in the perception of child trafficking, working towards its eradication by empowering action against this inhumanity through education, recovery and life reclamation!"
For this mission to succeed it requires money, donations and people coming together and although the topic is often hard to talk about and it's something we wish didn't exist, it won't stop if we close our eyes or ignore the problem.
Last year I did a live video around the data and hard core facts linked to child trafficking which you can watch below but this year we took it a step further and I did an interview with Officer Marc Marty better known as @iDigitalCop on social on what parents can if their child goes missing and what we as a community can do to make social media and the digital world a safer place for children.
FOMOfanz is about turning FEAR into JOY and I believe we can do just that by educating people on this important topic.

This interview was done to bring awareness to July 30th a day dedicated to educating the world about human trafficking known as "World Day against Trafficking in Persons"
World Day Against Trafficking In Persons is July 30th
Human trafficking is a crime that exploits women, children and men for numerous purposes including forced labour and sex. The International Labour Organization estimates that 21 million people are victims of forced labour globally. This estimate also includes victims of human trafficking for labour and sexual exploitation. While it is not known how many of these victims were trafficked, the estimate implies that currently, there are millions of trafficking in persons victims in the world. (Read More here on the united nations webpage!)

As we look towards the future of innovation the question becomes what will the world look like powered by artificial intelligence integrated with augmented and virtual reality.
Before we can answer that question we must look at that underlying trends of today’s technology and why and how we are seeking these new experiences. I believe we’ve spent the last 10 years using technology and digital media to distance ourselves from the human experience to the point where unplugging and meeting face to face has become the cool unique experience. That trend has started to shift as we seek more humanized experiences enabled by technology and won’t settle for technology or digital media disrupting our lives.
I believe this trend means we’re moving from technology being an endpoint and online communication being about messages to technology being an amplification of experiences and online communication being about conversations.
The future of innovation is collaboration and that collaboration will be powered and connected by conversations and trust. This includes human to human, human to machine, machine to machine and beyond. On this episode, I take a look at these trends and make predictions around sensory collaboration where the new innovations will include multiple levels of sensory activations.

We’re in the midst of digital content overload as we have more channels and types of content to consume than ever before. I’m asked almost weekly by brands and entrepreneurs which should they create, a video blog or podcast.
This question is an interesting one as I’ve been a podcast host for 4 years and currently host two podcasts while also being an evangelist for live video creating over 1800 live streams in the last 2 years. You could say I’m stuck in the middle as the recording of this podcast is also live streamed on Facebook Live and Periscope before being stripped from the video and uploaded as a podcast.
To answer this question I took to the app Anchor.FM which recently added a new feature allowing it’s users to upload episodes they create on Anchor to a podcast available in Apple Podcasts and Google Play with the push of one button. This feature is exciting as creating podcasts has always been a painful process especially for those that aren’t technology savvy.
Beyond being able to push one button and upload a podcast, the idea of including listeners soundbites, what Anchor calls “Call-ins”, makes Anchor the best option for creating what I call participatory content. Why is this important? You’ll have to listen to this episode to find out.

Sometimes I just have to pinch myself when it comes to the events, people and experiences I get access too on a daily basis. This week I got to interview two billionaires, got access to an embargoed Nasa project and interviewed two of the speakers for the upcoming Innovation Congress Event. The interview was so good I had to rip the audio out and post it as a full episode.
What is Innovation Congress?
Below you’ll find some of the amazing speakers and topics that will be discussed at the event but to promote the event I took over the Social Fresh Facebook page to interview two of the speakers. Melanie Deziel a Native Ad Consultant & Brand Storytelling Speaker who’s previous worked with New York Times, TimeInc and Huffington Post to name a few and Nick Cicero CEO/Founder @Delmondo, created the 1st video analytics for Snapchat and Facebook Live who previously worked with WeAreBrave, Live Fyre and Expion.
I moderated this discussion and we covered a wide range of topics from digital advertising, future of video, live streaming, augmented and virtual reality as well as an in depth discussion on how a mortuary could leverage digital storytelling and video. This discussion was so much fun and had so many insights I thought it had to be shared with you the FOMOFanz podcast community.

About the Innovation Congress event:
Innovation Congress by Social Fresh, in special partnership with Firebrand Group, is July 18-19 at The New School in NYC. The conference is focused on helping businesses stay ahead of their competitors in the next 3-5 years. We want to help companies learn how to use the disruptive technologies driving innovation today before someone else uses them to disrupt their industry. This will include discussions on digital trends, tech innovations, and organizational change. Oh yeah, and it’s at this rad theatre venue at the New School called Tishman Auditorium. They have robotic cameras!
Sessions will cover Augmented Reality, Audio Content Trends and Technology, Virtual Reality, Influencer Marketing, Automation and Chatbots, The Evolution of Ideation, The Future of Talent, 360 Video, The Future of Media + Content, Artificial Intelligence, Live Video, Apps, Video Ads, Understanding the Social “Story” Trend, Internet of Things, Crowd Technologies and the Sharing Economy, and more. Basically all the buzzwords. But with extra substance and actionability.
Hope to see you there!

The journey to be becoming a professional public speaker seems to be as unique as every speaker's wardrobe. Which makes the industry exciting while also making it confusing and difficult to break in and get noticed.
For me I have the unique opportunity to dive into keynote speaking with 3 different experiences.

Who is Brian Fanzo the Millennial Keynote Speaker:
In 2016, Brian keynoted in 10 countries at more than 50 events highlighting his passion for change, collaboration and community – dubbed the 3 C’s which are the elements and foundation of his first book A Millennial Mindset due out Spring 2017.
Brian has been referred to as a motivational keynote speaker, an inspirational keynote speaker, digital transformation speaker as well as a technology keynote speaker… This is why Brian refers to himself as a CHANGE EVANGELIST, as a millennial his vast background and unique experiences have allowed him to speak on a wide range of topics as well as solving different goals & objects for the brands and events hiring Brian as a speaker.
Brian’s background has also allowed him to leverage brands that he’s worked with in the past and those that have hired him as an influencer to speak at their events including CES, SXSW, IBM, SAP, Dell, HP, Mobile World Congress, Business Rocks, Social Media Marketing World, MarkeTech, Periscope Summit and many others.

Authenticity has become something that is harder to derive from this digital space as we build more distance and roadblocks between ourselves and the people we are actually trying to reach. The best compliment I get when I get off stage from speaking is, “You are the same person online as you are offline”. To me, that is the epitome of authenticity. It’s the idea that you are able to convey and be the person online that you are offline and you don’t separate the two.
To find yourself, think for yourself.
