Today’s poems are a celebration of unsung immigrant songs. Framed in a familial and cultural context, dealing with topics of love and loss, life and death, identity and the relationship of the self to multiple language, these poems narrate the writer’s experience through a unique perspective of physical distance from the native homeland. This last day of July marks the 29th anniversary of my eldest sister's passing. Having passed away at the age of seven, she forever remained my little big sister. This episode includes parts from my essay, "Exile at Home, or At Home in Exile" (Athenaeum Review, Issue 3) including a poem inspired by her absence, and timeless poems by Victor Hugo and Primo Levi.
This episode features poems about ancestry, migration, and identity. These poems come from a collections titled "Im migration," which I presented at the Research, Art, Writing Conference at UTDallas in 2012.
