The undoubted sporting and social highlight of the season, the Qatar Goodwood Festival gets underway in 2015 with the Opening Ceremony on Tuesday 28 July – a celebration of past winners and the unveiling of specially commissioned cups for the week’s feature races.
A feast of top quality racing attracts the best equine athletes in the world accompanied by the biggest names in the sport. The Tuesday highlight is the £300,000 Group 2 Qatar Lennox stakes, won in the past by Strong Suit and Observatory.
Picking a winner from the seven race card adds to the excitement of a day where sport combines with great food and drink, music, socialising and glamour to provide a fabulous experience that will live long in the memory.
This year sees the start of a new association with Qatar, whose sponsorship of the meeting makes prize money for the week total £4.5 million.
Local media gathered at Angmering trainer William Knight’s yard to see his potential Qatar Goodwood Festival string.
William believes that his best chances lie with Gavlar in the 2m5f Goodwood Stakes and Solar Flair, who may go for either the The Natwest Stakes or The Qatar Stakes, both over 7f.
