The town of Crested Butte unanimously passed a 12-month moratorium on issuing new vacation rental licenses. Mt. Emmons and local governing forces have a Memorandum of Understanding in regards to restricting mining Red Lady and you can now legally camp in a tent or RV on town private property. Of course, you need the permission of the property owner and complete a form.

Today, our podcast will be short and sweet as we cover the School District expansion project.
On January 11th school board meeting, RTA architects shared project plans as well as preliminary costs for the Crested Butte Community School, Gunnison High School Gunnison Community Schoo, Lake School and a district stadium. The entire project comes in at a tune of $98mm and change.
As many of us are well aware, there is a strong need for expansion at the Crested Butte Community school. Enrollment is increasing at the rate of 24 students per year over the previous 10 years. Thre are currently 800 students enrolled and the capacity is only 750. There was a modular placed in hte 2020/2021 school year and there have also been students that enrolled in the Pathways 100% online learning program due to Covid-19. This has helped balance the number of students in-house, but only temporarily.
The Crested Butte Community School facility design is estimate to cost approximate half of the total budget, approximately $48mm. This will allow an increase of just a little over 1,000 students and is meant to cover the next 10-years of student expansion for all grade levels.
So, where will the funds come from? The school board will gather community feedback on the concept designs and whether to put together a bond proposal. It is undetermined if this bond proposal will be on this year's November ballot or on the 2022 ballot.

As real estate continues to have low inventory we see properties go under contract in days or weeks if priced correctly. As well, for those purchasing property in the town of Crested Butte, the unlimited vacation rental license continues to be desirable. As of today, there are no licenses available, despite all the folks living in the homes full-time and all the transfers that have taken place recently. However, there is also not a waitlist. Remember that if you do purchase a property and want to vacation rent your home in the town of Crested Butte, you cannot apply until you have closed on your property.
In Gunnison County, the number of veterans living in our valley has decreased in numbers but the services available has gone up. According to federal data in 2016 there was a veteran population of 826 people. in 2019, the veteran population has decreased to 759. However, federal dollars for expenditures and services for those veterans have gone up by $796,000.
The recently passed Veteran’s Compact Act contains an initiative related to rural recreational and therapeutic opportunities as well as educational opportunities and research potential. The new law will create a task force to study outdoor therapeutic opportunities for military veterans to design and then design and leverage public lands for those specific uses.
“Seeing that Gunnison County houses one of the oldest adaptive therapeutic outdoor institutions in the nation we are, I dare say, at the tip of the spear for potential action and potential data sharing to these federal agencies. I know Adaptive is involved in collecting some of their own data and they have been for a while,” said Otero.
Commissioner Roland Mason inquired why our number of veterans is decreaing. “It has to do with politics, money and access to services,” Otero answered. He said he fields a number of calls from local veterans, many with passionate opinions.

Good morning everyone, this is Heather Connor, your Local Realtor, sharing the local news for the Crested Butte and Gunnison Community. My goal is to get you updated on the relevant local happenings, in just a few minutes.
A house fire near Riverland displaced 8 local community members. The call came in at 11:23pm last Monday night. One of the residents that lived on the third floor woke up when he smelled smoke and heard the smoke alarm. He quickly notified all other residents to leave the building. Luckily all the household members were able to escape, sadly however, two pets, one cat and one dog did not make it. According to Crested Butte Fire Protection District chief Rob Weisbaum, the fire appears to have originated from the wood-burning stove located in the lower living dwelling. While the exact cause has not been determined, it is suspected that the nearby combustible items, ash trashcan, an old chair and ski clothing could have helped progress the speed of the fire. As well, the glass on the stove door was blown out for unknown reasons. In true Crested Butte style, the community has rallied together to help with lodging, food, donations, even furniture. And not surprisingly, affordable housing was one of the main topics for the Crested Butte Town Council on the December 21st meeting. While several ideas were tossed around, some included asking citizens to approve a tax that would specifically fund workforce housing, performing a water well study at the Brush Creek parcel south of town and focusing on coordinating projects already in the works with Crested Butte, Mt. Crested Butte and Gunnison County. Currently, 100 deed-restricted units are slated to become available in Gunnison next year. Current major projects that could bring hundreds of affordable housing units into the valley are Slate River annexation in Crested Butte, the potential North Village project in Mt. Crested Butte and the Brush Creek and Whetstone parcels. Currently in effect is the InDeed program which allows town to purchase non deed-restricted properties and place a restriction so they become deed-restricted for future. This program has funds set aside to be able to compensate the owner for placing the restriction on their property. As well there is the student-build project in Paradise Park, the Redden "tiny home" development and the Homestead at Prospect housing project in Mt. Crested Butte. Crested Butte community development director Troy Russ indicated that next year would be spent primarily in the planning phase. Crested Butte is starting its comprehensive "Community Compass" planning and Mt. Crested Butte is updating its Comprehensive Plan and the county commissioners are starting their Strategic Plan update. "Everything needs balance" said Russ. "That is part of the Compass and all the planning initiatives. It is part of hte challenge going forward."

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday season. Around here we have had clear, bright bluebird days with some below-zero mornings. We also had some snow and with it has been some fun days on the ski resort, but brings extra, extra caution for the backcountry. Personally, I have taken my backcountry excursions to skinning up and skiing down the ski resort in the mornings and a lot of nordic skiing in areas that are safe from potential snow slides. Everyone, please be extra safe and enjoy the snow.
Locally, we also have free coronavirus testing held last week. In Crested Butte 824 people were tested and in Gunnison an additional 800. The results were 1,572 negative cases, 44 positive cases, and 8 with insufficient data. The tests came back with a 2.7% positive rate compared to the 7 or 8 percent which is the state's average. However, in general, there is concern that our valley, due to some concerning cases including 58 new positives, that we may be moved into the next state level, of which we are currently at yellow on the state meter and blue on the county coronameter.
And David Baumgarten has been the Gunnison County attorney for 31 years and at the end of this year will step down. He has held this position since 1989 and Matthew Hoyt will step into the position. While Baumgarten plans to help with the transition, it sounds like he plans to enjoy some time at home and be able to hang out with his dog and kittens.

Gunnison County has begun COVID-19 vaccinations. The vaccine arrived at the county Health and Human Services in Gunnison on December 15th. The 300 doses were sent via FedEx and packed in dry ice and then transferred to an ultra-cold -80 degree F freezer to keep the vaccine very cold. The county's vaccine distribution plan has several tiers. The first group is health care workers on the front lines of the pandemic and those living in senior housing. The second priority group will be other health care workers in the valley who has less regular direct contact with coronavirus cases. The next group would be higher-risk individuals, those with underlying health conditions and people over the age of 65. School staff, other workers with a lot of public contact such as grocery store employees would be next, then followed by the general public. As far as timing, it is dependent on the timing of the vaccine shipments. The plan is to have the first group vaccinated this winter, second group this spring, and everyone else sometime this summer.
And friendly reminder to everyone to be safe this winter. Our backcountry is set up for high avvy danger this winter. We just recently have had a local man injured on Snodgrass as he was caught in a soft slab avalanche and carried approximately 200 -300 feet. Another long-time local man and previous ski patroller for our resort was also caught in an avalanche and was killed this last Friday. According to CB Avalanche Center's website, the local Schneider was caught in a large persistent slab avalanche in the Anthracites, on a run known as Friendly Finish.
And to everyone out there whether you are celebrating with us here in Crested Butte or celebrating elsewhere, please have a wonderful holiday season. 2020 has been one for the books and I hope each of you are finding some time to relax, enjoy time with friends and family, even if it means this year, it will be via Zoom.

CB Town council will be taking time this winter to gather information and feedback on the recent summer's one-way configuration of Elk Ave. Town is considering if Crested Butte will still be under Coronavirus restrictions by June of 2021. Based upon a recent town survey of which 40 responded, approximately 75% were in favor of the one-way reconfiguration for this coming summer season. Some negatives that were expressed was the impact to available parking as 58 parking spots were eliminated with the new configuration. As well, residents on the adjoining side streets expressed increased traffic and speed of vehicles. Some residents also expressed varying opinions of the outdoor seating looking either festive or "junky". Feedback and consideration will continue towards a decision this March.
Old emotions are stirred up as the town of Mt. Crested Butte approved a 2020 update to the town's Three Mile Plan. The Three Mile Plan is a long-range planning opportunity for the town to consider territory they might want to annex in the future. A previous annexation by the name of Hunter Ridge, located at 45 Hunter Hill was rejected back in 2018. Once the project was rejected by the Town of Mt. CB, developer Jamie Watt then took the proposed development application to the county. The county resolution included conditions placed on the application by the Planning Commission. Issues included compatibility with the neighboring properties, geologic hazards, water and sewer plans, traffic studies, snow storage plans wildlife considerations and wildland delineations as well as others. According to Watt, all those issues were addressed and he is wrapping up the next phase of his application. Currently, there is disagreement in having the Hunter Ridge annexation included in the 2020 plan. According to Mayor Janet Farmer, "I don't see a situation in any form or fashion that I'm going to find that land suitable for development and so I have a problem having it in there." According to interim town manager Carlos Velado, he believes it will weaken their position if they do try to protect the property. According to Velado, if town doesn't include it in the plan, then he believes it is giving the county the impression that town does not want it and the county can have it. He says, "it's not that we don't want the property, it's just that we didn't want that particular project." In the end, the council agreed to approve the 2020 Three Mile Plan update.

Ski season is opening this week for Thanksgiving. As CBMR preps for opening day, thus far, they plan to operate the Red Lady Express and Peachtree lifts. It is reported that Thanksgiving lodging bookings are pretty normal an then they ramp up for Christmas and New Year's. This all seems fairly standard compared to previous years. Passholders have exclusive access to the slopes from opening day to December 8th and can make unlimited week-of reservations through the entire season as availability and their pass-type allows.
And to look back at the previous internet outage on November 12th, it, reminds all of us of our internet and communication fragility in our valley. As we remember, all cell, internet, landline and even the ability to dial 911 was down for the majority of the day in both Gunnison and Hinsdale county. According to Corey Bryndal, when he realized there was a problem, he drove towards Montrose and found workers dealing with the situation. Bryndal started chatting with the workers and found out that "A contractor working on a water line in the morning fell victim to insufficient utility locates. Apparently the old MNT/centuryLink fiber was put in place in 1995 and had an unmarked "jog" in the line near Cimarron Visitors Center campground. The need for redundancy into the valley was clearly outlined on the 12th and it may be coming sooner than later. Currently the only live fiber line runs from Montrose to Gunnison. According to Virgil lTurner, regional broadband project director at Region 10, said that Lumen formerly Centurylink worked in conjunction with the recent Cottonwood Pass road realignment to put in a second fiber over the pass.
And, in Colorado, we are seeing various counties enter the red zone on the state COVID meter. The local school district is asking families not to travel for the holidays. And speaking of holidays, wherever you may be this coming week, have a wonderful and safe thanksgiving and indeginenous peoples day. Let's all remember to be thankful for what matters most to us.

Nationally, Pfizer has announced a vaccine for COVID-19 that is supposed to have a 90% effectiveness rate. The markets response? "This is a gamechanger." Stocks soared to record highs and mortgage-backed securities and Treasuries prices fell sharply, causing rates to rise. Rates also endured a similar response with the 10-year yield rising to .98% on Monday, well up from .71% just days before. By the end of the week, the yield settled above .90%, off the highest levels but still a big rise week over week.
CBMR's online reservation system went live. Starting November 6th, passholders were able to go online and make priority reservation days for the core season. While CBMR did not have specifics to share, local Facebook forums shared that some users saw user ques as high as 100,000 and some reported hours of wait time and some difficulty navigating the system.
Between November 1 and November 9th, 70 new positives were recorded in the county. Of those, 56 were related back to Western College. The university took actions that shifted all learning to online, suspended athletics, and closed the cafeteria and made all food grab-and-go. The good news is that many of the 70 cases have been mitigated due to contact tracing methods and there have not been anybody admitted to the Gunnison Valley Hospital. As well, Western has taken the previously mentioned mitigation efforts and the countys K-12 students seem to be staying safe with the new measures.

In the last five days of November the county has recorded 24 new positive cases of COVID. Public health director Joni Reynolds has implemented to mitigation measures which includes reducing the capacity of gathering, both indoors and out. Outdoor gatherings have been reduced from 250 people down to 50 and indoor gatherings have been reduced from 50 to 25. The second mitigation measure is a seven-day quarantine if you have left Gunnison County for more than 24 hours.
Nationally, we have a new president Biden and locally we had an 88% voter turnout. More than 11,000 people out of the 12, 448 voters in Gunnison County who are considered active voted in this years electrion. District 2 County Commissioner is Jonathon Houck. District 1, Liz Smith retained her seat after she was appointed to replace commission John Messner. Both of their new terms officially being in January.
And there is no question that we are seeing an impact in our backcountry usage. There is a permanent toilet installation in Washington Gulch, which was completed in September. Since tourism and recreation have increased significantly, this should help keep our areas safe and clean for the ever increasing usage, including overnight stays.

In Hyperlocal news, the public has now commented on the Verzuh trails. There are three public meetings including two on-site, which are meant to give neighbors the chance to discuss the proposal of shifting the public easements on the Verzuh Ranch open space parcel east of Crested Butte. There has been an extensive amount of comments on social media as well as an online petition that opposes the proposal to move the easements and has garnered more than 300 signatures. One meeting was Wednesday October 21st and was held on the property, there is a meeting Wednesday November 4th which will be a Zoom meeting, and on Thursday, November 5th there will be a meeting on the property again. The current owners of the 40-acre land want to shift public bike and pedestrian access from the road that cuts through the property to a new trail that is proposed near locals housing at the Paradise Park neighborhood. The Martins, the owners of the property, proposed this to enhance the wetlands on the property and protect birds nesting in that area. The neighbors in Paradise Park believe the move will greatly impact their increasingly busy neighborhood and result in increased vehicle traffic, parking and speeding, which would affect their children and pets. As well, one of the groups that came out initially in support, is now withdrawing that support. Crested Butte Land Trust executive director Jake Jones said that the board "decided that the Land Trust would officially take a neutral position on Wynn and Ryan's proposal. . .The letter from Noel was not vetted or approved by the board prior to being submitted for the public record."
The county has purchased 150 HEPA air filters to gift to local businesses. They will prioritize places where people linger and or where employees cannot wear masks. According to the US Environmental Protection AGency (EPA), these types of air filters can filter at least 99.97 percent of dust, pollen, viruses mold bacteria and airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns. There is discussion to purchase an additional 50 later in the fall. The current units were purchased utilizing CARES funds and was approved by the commissioners.
And voters are out in record numbers across Gunnison County with close to 3,500 ballots turned in within the first week. Election officials do not expect those numbers to subside. However, registered voters in the more remote areas of Gunnison County like Somerset and Marble have reported they were yet to receive their ballots in the mail, 11 days after they were sent out. There is a continuing concern in the slow-down of the US Postal service. Most voters are choosing to use ballot drop boxes.
And Gunnison Crested Butte Airport (GUC) is seeing more private jet crowds this year. According to Rick Lamport, the airport manager, general aviation number are way up, especially in the private jet sector.

The Crested Butte News Candidate's Forum was held last Sunday evening at the Crested Butte Center for the Arts. There was an audience of approximately 20, all masked up and ready to ask questions. These included questions such as the candidates feelings on a number of topics from affordable housing, to increasing tourist numbers and whether second home and property owners should have a right to vote in the county on issues that impact them. Remember that ballots are in the mail and they need to be returned to the county by November 3rd.
The four candidates are Jonathan Houck, Trudy Vader, Liz Smith and Dave Taylor. Moderator Denis B Hall started the questioning asking if there was too much tourism promotion in the county and how was that changing the valley.
Houck responded that tourism and recreation was one key part of the local economic base, but said that there needed to be efforts to manage overuse. Vader responded that while TAPP is doing a really good job, it needed to focus on tourism impacts as well as promotion, that the tourism was felt not only on the land, but for local housing as well. Smith responded that as commissioner she has attempted to re-direct. Taylor responded that TAPP is a "bloated organization" that spends too much on salaries and subcontractors on the content used to promote the valley.

Crested Butte Mountain Resort is scheduled to open on November 25th, and according to Tim Baker (Vice President and COO of CBMR), share that their goal, is to stay open all season long. Baker shared through a Zoom call their plans for safety, their new reservation system, operational changes, and new features available to Epic Pass holders. On this podcast, let's dig deeper into each one.
Safety: Baker explains that safety protocls will have three central elementsL face coverings, physical distancing, and adjustments ot on-mountain experiences which includes dining and ski school. Face coverings will be required to access the mountain, loading an unloading from the ski lifts, lift lines, and in service areas such as restaurants, retails and rental stores. Face masks are not required during skiing. Only related parties will be allowed to sit at full capacity on the chair lift, and unrelated parties can ride the lift as two singles on each end of the lift on a four-person chair.
Reservation System: All pass holders will be required to make a reservation in order to ride the mountain. A reservation will be counted as a full-day of skiing regardless if the skier skis for a full or partial day. Pass holders will have the ability to reserve seven priority days at a time during the core season, which is from December 8th to April 4th. Once one of those days are used, they are free to reserve a future day to replace that one that was used. As well, uphill skiing prior and after operating hours will be allowed.
Operations: Dining operations will also be shifting, restaurant capacities will be limited, and all transactions will be via card, aka, no cash allowed. Restaurant menus will be limited with more of a grab-and-go format and full-service bars will be closed. Baker says they are trying to eliminate gathering and lingering and bringing your own food is encouraged. Ski and Ride School will be limiting the size of groups, participants and instructors will be asked to undergo online health screenings.
Pass Perks: New this year, Vail Resorts is offering free Epic Coverage for pass holders, which will include refunds is the resort closes due to COVID or if pass holders experience job loss, injury or illness. As well, pass holders have Epic Mountain Rewards, which includes a 20% discount on food and beverage, lodging, ground ski and ride school lessons and equipment rentals.

Good morning everyone, this is Heather Connor, your Local Realtor, sharing the local news for the Crested Butte and Gunnison Community. My goal is to get you updated on the relevant local happenings, in just a few minutes.
Town council has been approached to relocate the Verzuh Ranch trail easement which would eliminate the boardwalk portion of the "perimeter trail". This would eliminate a public easement along the main road linked to Elk Ave that leads to Tony's Trail and move it to the north edge of the property near Paradise Park subdivision. The owners of the 40-acre Verzuh Open Space property, Wynn and Ryan Martens cite that it would enhance the wetlands on the property and protect birds nesting in that area. There is concern that this would add more traffic to an already busy portion of town, near Paradise Park, and eliminate community access to Tony's Trail through the current access through McCormick Ranch road.
TAPP numbers are in, TAPP stands for (Tourism and Prosperity Partnership) and the valley has had a good summer tourist season, despite or possibly in light of; the pandemic. The valley as a whole was down 2%, with both the south end of the valley such as the Gunnison area and Mt. Crested Butte, experiencing some losses. The town of Crested Butte however, had the highest lodging month ever in history, this last July. This summer season, visitors were spending approximately $2mm/week for the nine peak weeks. Other similar resort towns such as Steamboat, Aspen, and Telluride are all down 20% or more. As well, TAPP reports a 70% increase in shoulder season visitors and primarily as overflow from summer season. Winter season is currently our fastest growing season and EPIC pass sales are up 14 percent from the same time last year.
And the previous Donita's Cantina space on Elk Ave has been re-constructed and re-imagined as a trifecta of "health optimization alley". The space that was an anchor in our community for 40 years is now a new building with new female entrepreneurs. The new (and one already known) businesses are Native Nectar Botanicals which is bringing a previously on-line only business to brick and mortar. The Fountain which is a professional IV therapy and hydration clinic and the Daily Dose, finally has, (her) own home. Offering her core of smoothies, green drinks and coffee, she is looking into expanding her services to turn her space into a "Hub" for folks to gather.

The Black Lives Matter painting on the street of Elk Ave took approx 5 Crested Butte public works employees, 45 gallons of paint, and around $2800 total in cost. The town crew began the work at midnight and around 6am, they were completed and watching the paint dry. To say this has caused some strong opinions and comments on social media. . . would be an understatement.
Emma Coburns 5k run was this weekend. For those of you that subscribe to her social media, she started off on Elk Ave in downtown Crested Butte and she streamed her run out towards Peanut Lake, and beyond, on social media. Emma is a local athlete, grew up in Crested Butte and is a a well loved local Olympian. Her Elk Run 5k benefits Living Journeys to help those with cancer. This year her went virtual as many events have, and next year, she plans on holding in Crested Butte.
While some businesses are thriving even under the COVID restrictions, such as vacation rentals and real estate, others are having a more challenging time. The Majestic Theatre is closing after 15 years. With movie companies seeing how lucrative it is to bring a title straight to streaming as well as the local pandemic causing daily capacity and operation issues, Mark and Allie will be closing their doors for good.
Tax revenues for CB and the county are better than expected. According to Crested Butte finance director Rob Zillioux, says that the preliminary August sales tax revenue was down only about 1 percent from 2019. For the year, it is approximately down by 6 percent. According to Zillioux, in terms of sales tax collections we are doing better than places like Aspen, Telluride and Vail, but not as good as places like Fruita and Grand Junction who also have wide open spaces and lots of outdoor activities. However our RETT, the Real Estate Transfer Tax for the town of Crested Butte has already blown away projections for the full year, due to a fast-moving real estate market here in CB.

Two locals push to help others. Pat O'Neill runs 100 miles to support Living Journeys in the Idaho Mountain Trail Ultra Festival-raising $63,000. And local Michael Blunc hopped on his townie bicycle and rode 262 miles, 99 laps total to raise $8,835 for the Adaptive Sports Center.
Gunnison Valley COVID-19 logistics chief Kyle Tibbett reports that 31,750 procedure masks have been ordered by the county and more than 44,000 have been distributed. They have distributed more than ordered as some of the masks came from the Strategic National Stockpile. Close to 50% of the masks have gone to local businesses and 50% have gone to Gunnison Valley Health.
Vinotok culminated this Saturday and with a different approach to the ceremonial, burning of the grump. There was one ceremonial box instead of many located around town, and folks were encouraged to walk through the archway and a stone pathway to the labyrinth of the Grump. There was no public burning this year, but rest assured that your grumps were changed in a way so as to help you start fresh into this new season.
And the Grand Traverse was a little different this year, as the run portion usually starts in Crested Butte and then ends in Aspen, and then the bike portion starts in Aspen and ends in Crested Butte, each way totalling 41 miles. Due to the COVID regulations in Pitkin County, which is the county in which Aspen is within, the course was modified to stay all within Gunnison County. The new course was more challenging and clocked in at 48 miles with between 7,800 - 8,500 feet of vertical gain. For the run portion, 193 runners started the race at 5:30am and 160 finished, with the final one coming in at 8:30pm. Cam Smith came in the lead for the men's run division coming at seven hours and three minutes. Nicole Mericle won the women's run race by a large margin of 38 minutes, and in 5th place total of all men and women. Russell Finsterwalk came in first place for the men's bike division clocking in at four hours and ten minutes. Jenny Smith also won the women's bike title, coming in at five hours and 30 minutes.

This Week in Crested Butte:
Good morning everyone, this is Heather Connor, your Local Realtor, sharing the local news for the Crested Butte and Gunnison Community. My goal is to get you updated on the relevant local happenings, in just a few minutes.
This last Tuesday a snowstorm came into Crested Butte and. . . it brought a surprising foot of new powder. It's one of the earliest snowstorms in Crested Butte history and the amount of snow caught quite a few by surprise.
As far as the backcountry usage this summer, the increased number of hikers did not necessarily result in an increase in Search-and-Rescue missions around Crested Butte. At the end of July Crested Butte Mountain Rescue Team president Randy Felix said that while the number of people in the backcountry was obviously up, the team was having an average or even below average year. However, there has been a turn and there has been a recent flurry of activity. Most of these calls are for over-due hikers or bikers, some are for injuries, and one particular one was for two couples that hiked Avery Mountain and were unable to descend. With the help of CBMRT, one couple was within voice-range and from there were able to descend safely and the other couple were given a harness and belayed to a ridge where they were able to descend safely down the mountain.
And our local elections are poised for a record-breaking year of voters. Colorado has enacted mail-in voting and ballots will be mailed out of Denver on Friday, October 9th. The initial mail-out for Gunnison County will contain 11,525 ballots and they are preparing for a total of 14,000 - 15,000 voters. The local elections division is hiring 25 - 35 additional temporary staff to prepare for what many consider, will be an off-the-charts election. Gunnison
County elections director Diane Folowell encourages folks to cast ballots well in-advance and to avoid voting in-person on November 3rd. This is to avoid long lines as well as to help continue with the safety protocol of COVID-19 in general.
And town council votes to paint Elk Avenue with a BLM mural at the intersection of Elk Avenue and Third Street. After three hours of a sometimes emotional discussion, the Crested Butte Town Council agreed to move ahead with support for the Crested Butte Black Lives Matter Committee. One of the members of the CrestedButte BLM committee, Chloe Bowman, explained that the idea was for "the town to show support for a part of the community that currently feels unsafe and unwelcome."

The local Crested Butte softball season has started and local hometown hero Aaron Blunck has set the halfpipe world on fire by being the first individual to successfully land the switch dub cork 1440. Gunnison County has a new Commissioner, Liz Smith, who was elected to replace John Messner. Messner retired from the position to accept a job with the state. New middle-income housing project, tentatively named "Paintbrush" is a 77-unit development projected being built in Gunnison by Gatesco. Gates is hopeful to be able to have residents in the property by February of 2021. Vail Resorts will discuss this fall on the winter plan for ski resorts and will be tentatively planning on a discussion with their shareholders at that time. This Week there is a Stage One Fire Ban in effect as well as a town health code that makes masks mandatory in downtown Crested Butte. In national news the top 10 cities are seeing a slight decrease in rental rates as more rural areas are seeing a slight increase due to the movement to more rural areas. 30-year fixed and 15-year fixed interest rates are at an all-time low.

While there was no parade, there were a few spirited individuals that rode down Elk in their finest festive wear.
