A microaggression is a brief and common place slight/insult that communicates hostility or prejudice, towards a particular group of people.

In my segment, "Let's Talk About It," June is PTSD Awareness Month, and more people than we may realize are living with unhealed childhood wounds/trauma. Unhealed childhood wounds can manifest themselves in avariety of ways, including feelings of fear, low self-esteem, insecurity, PTSD, and difficulty forming trusting relationships.

Data shows that Black and Brown children disproportionately impacted by grief: They are 2x more likely to have a father die and 3x more likely to have a mother die compared to their White counterparts. Prevalence of other ACE's was highest among children with racial/ethic discrimination, and both racial/ethnic discrimination and other ACE's were associated with having one or more health conditions. I will cover a range of age groups so that you will know what to look for and perhaps there is something that you may have noticed that with this information may help to explain certain behaviors.

Hello beautiful people! Tune into a brand new episode of Village Mentality!

This week, find out one of the main -        ways that depression might lead to death especially if the negative symptoms result in a person deciding to take their own life. Depression can make people feel helpless and without hope, causing them to reach the unfortunate conclusion that suicide is the only way to end their misery. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), suicide was the tenth leading cause of death among all age groups in the year 2017. In 2016, there were nearly 45,000 deaths attributed to suicide in the United States.

According to some estimates, depression is present in about half of all suicides. The other half, about 54%, of people who died by suicide did not have a known mental health condition, according to the CDC.

While rates of mental illness are similar in rural areas compared to urban areas, there is a higher risk of suicide in rural communities, with nearly twice as many suicides in the most rural counties compared to urban. 1 in 25 adult Americans has a serious mental illness (SMI) in a given year, but people in rural areas are more likely to experience it, and they face unique barriers to receiving treatment. So let’s talk about the 4 A's of mental health in Rural America.

According to the American Sociological Association, #systemicracism creates or worsens #mentalhealth challenges for many people of color. Race-related #stressors can impact the mental health of #disadvantaged racial and ethnic communities. One way that systemic racism impacts mental health is through #racialtrauma.

In my segment, "Let's Talk About It," The jury in the Kim Potter trial has asked the judge what happens if they are not able to reach a consensus, and they have asked if they could have Kim Potter's firearm, perhaps they would like to see for themselves, what the difference in weight is between the teaser and her gun. The thing to remember though is that the gun will not be loaded so the weight of the gun will not be accurate. There were all kinds of microaggressions from the defense as they talked about Daunte Wright, blaming him for his own death.
