Beautiful Thing is a gentle and hugely optimistic play. Teenagers Ste and Jamie are next door neighbours on the Thamesmead Estate in south London: Jamie is being bullied at school, and Ste is being bullied at home. When it all gets too much Ste seeks refuge at Jamie’s and their awkward but joyous relationship develops.
Underscored by a Mama Cass soundtrack, this play perfectly captures the wonder of first love. The Guardian called it ‘Deliciously upbeat… Seldom has there been a play which so exquisitely and joyously depicts what it’s like to be sixteen. Truly a most unusual and beautiful thing.’

1. NHS Long Term Plan (overview)– The NHS has just published its new 10-year plan – it’s the way it intends to use the extra money that the Government committed in the summer (3.4% a year over the next 5 years compared with 2.2% over the last 5!). It’s 137 pages long but it can be boiled down to seven key aspects:- Fixing A&E Wait Times – same day visits up from 20% to 33% * Earlier Detection of Cancer – at the moment early detection is around 50%; the goal is to get that up to at least 75% * Care in the Community – early discharge, pooling budgets, and primary care budgets to be increased for the first time in years! * Digital Revolution – digital technology and wearables offer massive benefits * Personalised Medicine – smarter medicines can be tailored to individual circumstances * Wellbeing – to stop people needing the health service! * Mental Health* – significantly improved access.
It’s a hugely ambitious plan; but they’ve done the easy bit, now they have to implement it! NHS Long Term Plan (Locally)It’s been analysis paralysis in our area for the last five years! First there was “Your Care Your Future”; then that was rolled into the Sustainability & Transformation Plan (with E&N Herts and West Essex); now they’ve re-invented the wheel for the third time. But the core problems are still there:-* Poor Estate – the facilities that we have in West Herts * Workforce limitations – for example the lack of GPs and Nurses * Lack of Capital Funding – to sort out the hospital situation locally * Poor Use of IT – the digital revolution is all very well but they’re still using faxes! * Fragmentation – issues like Nascot Lawn and competitive tendering have made collaboration difficult.
As ever – the devil’s in the detail! 3. Colds, Flu and ComplicationsThis is the time of year for colds, flu and the complications that come from them. The problem we have is that we typically don’t know how serious they are! 4. Public Meeting on HospitalsThere’s an open meeting at the Stanborough Centre in St Albans Road, Watford, to discuss the latest position on the plan for Watford, St Albans and Hemel Hospitals; it will take place on 29 January from 7pm to 9pm. The event, organised by West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust and Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group will share details of how the options for hospital development are shaping up and will explain the process for evaluating and shortlisting options.

This week Danny & Ian waffled about Sustainable shopping, edible insects, the Millennium Bug and the value of memorabilia
Gwendoline Alderton came in to talk about this years Christmas trends.
Gwendoline advised that generally all things 'wonderfully white' are on trend, but to avoid this looking sterile you can add glitter and different textures.
Blush pink is also popular and can be blended with either white or grey tones. Some lovely soft pink sofas are in the shops at the moment, and for materials velvet is very popular. For Christmas you can add pink to your gold decorations to be current and stylish.
You can also combine pink and red to give a warm, Moroccan, spicy feel.
For Christmas the two particular types of decoration on trend are tin and metal Mexican themes. Or if you want glamour go for plastic decorations like flamingos and peacocks in mixed materials.
A green Christmas tree is the way to go this year.

Radio Verulam Science Feature 26-11-2018Invading MarsA new mission called InSight will land on Mars tonight at 8 pm (GMT), with coverage starting at the end of the West Herts Drivetime show at 7 pm on NASA TV, for links see below. The mission is a lander, a stationary laboratory rather than a rover, as being stationary is actually key to the science goals.InSight is short for Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport and it’s science goals are: “The first is to examine the interior — what it is made of, and what processes occur. The lander will provide information on the size and composition of the Martian core, crust and mantle. It also will show "how warm the interior is and how much heat is still flowing through," NASA said. She led the choral society, founded the all-women Girton College fire brigade and co-founded a mathematical club. During her life, she registered 26 patents. Why your insurer might refuse your claim
Your insurer may refuse to pay your claim because:
the policy was not in force when what you're claiming for happened
the policy is invalid because you didn't tell the truth when you applied for insurance or failed to disclose something which could affect your claim (for policies taken out, renewed or changed before 6 April 2013)
the policy is invalid because you deliberately or carelessly withheld information or misled your insurers (for policies taken out, renewed or changed after 6 April 2013)
the item is not covered by your policy
there is an exclusion clause in the policy which means that you can't claim for what's happened
you've missed some of the installments of your premium
you didn't tell your insurer about a change in your circumstances
you haven't followed the claims process correctly
you haven't kept to a condition of your policy
you have exaggerated the claim and are trying to claim for more than you should.
Your insurer must give you a reason for refusing to pay your claim. Check the details of your policy carefully to make sure that their decision is reasonable.Banking – security and fraud

Claiming compensation if your flight's delayed or cancelled
If you booked a flight that departed from Europe or was with a European airline, you might have rights under EU law if your flight is delayed or cancelled.
For the EU law to apply, you'll need to have departed from the UK, European Union (EU), Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.
If your flight’s delayed for 2 or more hours
Your airline have to give you:
food and drink
access to phone calls and emails
accommodation if you’re delayed overnight - and journeys between the airport and the hotel
The airline should give you vouchers to get these things at the airport. Ask someone who works for the airline if you’re not offered any help.
If they don’t give you help at the airport, keep receipts for expenses and try to claim from the airline later. Airlines only pay for ‘reasonable’ expenses - you won’t get money back for alcohol, expensive meals or luxury hotels.
If your flight’s delayed for 3 or more hours
You already have a legal right to food and drink, phone calls and accommodation - you get this when the flight is delayed for 2 hours or more.
You’re also entitled to get compensation if the delay is the airline’s responsibility - for example, if they didn’t get enough bookings or there was a technical fault.
You won’t get compensation if it was delayed because of something like bad weather or a strike.
You’re entitled to a set amount of compensation depending on:
the distance of the flight - check the flight distance on the WebFlyer website
the length of the delay - how late you are getting to your destination

Today we chatted to Amber, Freya and Emily from BlackBox Theatre about their latest production: Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare.
This production of Julius Caesar is set in Roman Britain, and seeks to demonstrate the savagery and political instability of the Ancient World. Although it still takes place in 44BC, the setting has been moved to the corner of the Roman empire, and shows the Celts and the Romans mixing and clashing.
This production will be performed at the Roman Theatre at Verulamium. BlackBox Theatre said they chose Julius Caesar after choosing the performance space, because they wanted a play that would bring out the ruins of the theatre and the crumbling walls.
BlacBbox theatre has been running for 2 years, and was set up by actors to create the performances they wanted to see themselves, and to provide opportunities for other creatives. They performed in the first ever drama performance at the Horn, where they put on 'Rabbit' by Nina Raine, which is set in a pub.
Julius Caesar will be performed at 6:30 on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th September at the Roman Theatre at Verulamium. Tickets are £13 and £10 for concessions.

Another recent release on the Film Club today, as Charlotte rounds off a focus on the years 2016 to 2018 with Deadpool 2!

Today the Film club looks at "Get Out", the award-winning experimental horror from writer/director Jordan Peele, released in 2017.Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) decide they are at a point in which he can meet her parents. On the trip, Chris finds the open nature of the family unnerving, and as he investigates more discovers an even worse truth.
Get Out won an oscar for best original screenplay, and was nominated for more.
This week the Film Club continues moving to even more recent releases, as Charlotte focuses on the years 2016-2018. Up first is 'Deadpool' from 2016!
Ryan Reynolds stars as Wade Wilson, a mercenary who finds love with Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), but has his world turned upside down when he discovers he has advanced cancer. With no other options, Wilson joins an experimental program that reveals his hidden mutant power: extreme regeneration, but leaves him horribly deformed. Putting on a red mask and naming himself Deadpool, he tracks down the people who experimented on him in a quest for revenge.
The West Herts Drivetime Film Guide folks chat films: the usual please bar-keep except with Susie stepping up to the plate while Simon is away. The last instalment of Charlotte's "2012-2015" themed Film Club is all about sci-fi thriller "Jurassic World".
This 2015 entry to the famous 'Jurassic Park' series sees a park full of dinosaurs successfully opened as an extremely popular luxury resort. However, when a genetically engineered dino known as the Indominus Rex gets loose, a chain reaction is triggered that sees the entire park thrown into chaos. Only the park's operations manager and an ex-military animal expert can track down the engineered dinosaur, and ensure the safety of all the guests.

Another Oscar winner from between 2012 and 2015 on the Film Club today, as Charlotte tells us everything we need to know about "Whiplash" from 2014.
An ambitious young jazz drummer does everything he can to reach the top of his class in his elite music school. When a well renowned music director known for his brutal teaching method selects the young man to be part of his ensemble, the two will go down a path of obsession that drives the student to even question his own ability and sanity.
Miles Teller stars as Andrew Neiman, with JK Simmons starring as the ruthless Terence Fletcher, a role which won him an Oscar for best supporting actor.
Charlotte and Danny are still looking at the best Films of the years 2012 to 2015, and today look at the award winning "Dallas Buyers Club", starring Matthew McConaughey.
McConaughey stars as Ron Woodroof, an electrician in the 80s stunned to learn that he has AIDS. Despite being told it is advanced, and he only has 30 days left to live, he takes it upon himself to get hold of any possible treatments or therapies that can work no matter how legal. Seeing how difficult it is for the people of America to get these treatments, he takes it upon himself to sell it to them.
Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner also star, and the film won 3 oscars in 2014.
It's a Monday, and thus the start of another new week of Charlotte's Film Club! Continuing the theme of the previous few weeks, Danny and Charlotte have been looking at the best releases between certain years, now on to 2012-2015!
Released in 2012, "The Impossible" tells the real-life story of the events of the Indian-Ocean Tsunami of 2004. A family find their Christmas Holiday in Thailand turned into a horrific nightmare by the previously mentioned Tsunami, which destroyed buildings and completely reshaped the landscape into a wasteland. Faced by the constant looming threat of the approaching sea, the family must do all they can to survive, and only courage and kindness can get them through.Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor star.

The last Film of our week based on the years 2008-2011 is "The Adjustment Bureau" from 2011.
This sci-fi thriller stars Matt Damon as a politician who meets a ballerina (Emily Blunt) he is instantly smitten with, yet finds himself always unable to meet with her. David learns that he is facing a group of men that work for fate itself, and must choose between the path destined for him, or the one in which he can be with the woman of his dreams.
This week saw the Film Guide hosting debut of acclaimed local actor Susie Wyeth, understudy to Simon Carver as he was unavailable this week. Susie brought her wealth of knowledge discussing the silver screen with Danny and recommends you get your remotes at the ready for these films on free-to-air TV.

This week the Film Club concludes with 'Zodiac', the 2007 crime thriller.
Directed by David Fincher, the films tells the story of the real-life story of the hunt for the Zodiac, a killer who left America haunted with his cryptic and mysterious threats.
It features the fantastic cast of Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Jake Gyllenhaal and Anthony Edwards.
Today's Film pick from Charlotte is 'Apocalypto' from 2006.
Mel Gibson directs this film set during the ages of the Mayan kingdom. Jaguar Paw (Rudy Youngblood), a peaceful hunter in a remote tribe, is captured along with his entire village in a raid. He is scheduled for a ritual sacrifice until he makes a daring escape, and tries to make it back to his pregnant wife and son.
Charlotte's next film this week is 2005 biography with Jake Gyllenhaal 'Jarhead'.
Set in the late 1980s, Anthony Swofford enlists as a Marine, training in boot camp under a sadistic drill instructor. During this time Swofford undertakes a sniper course, shortly before the advent of the Gulf war. When the United States becomes involved, Swofford is shipped out, facing uncertainty each day -- about the war and home -- the soldier tries to maintain composure.
It's a new week for the Film Club, and Charlotte is following last weeks 2000-2003 films by spending this week celebrating 2004-2007!
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams both star in this romance-drama in which a mill-worker and a rich girl fall in love, but her parents don't approve. When he goes away to fight in the second World War, she ends up with another man, but they soon discover their romance is far from over.

Charlotte finishes a week of the best of 2000-2003 with 'Bruce Almighty'.
This 2003 comedy stars Jim Carrey as the titular Bruce Nolan, a Newsroom personality who blames God when he loses out on his dream anchorman position. Soon after, God (Morgan Freeman) actually contacts Bruce and offers him all of his powers if he thinks he can do a better job. Bruce accepts and goes on a spree, using his new-found abilities for selfish, personal use until he realizes that the prayers of the world are going unanswered.
Jennifer Anniston and Steve Carrell also star.
Today's Film Club looks at British post-apocalyptic thriller '28 Days Later' from 2002.
A courier wakes up from a coma a month after an infectious virus strikes, and finds the city of London devoid of life aside from the zombie-like victims of the ‘Rage Virus’. He soon unites with another group of survivors and joins them on a perilous journey to what he hopes will be safety.
Directed by Danny Boyle, it stars Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson and Christopher Eccleston

Charlotte's Film Club continues with the focus of early 2000s cinema with the 2001 cult classic 'Donnie Darko'.
After surviving a freak accident, Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) begins to explore what it means to be alive, and in short order to be in love, he uncovers secrets of the universe that give him a tempting power to alter time and destiny.
Jenny Malone, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Drew Barrymore also star.
Another Film Club kicks off today, and Charlotte wants to look at releases between 2000 and 2003. Up first is 'What Women Want' from 2000.
Mel Gibson stars as an advertising executive who acquires the ability to hear anything women are thinking. Seeing an opportunity, he attempts to use this power to bring about the fall of his female boss, but the more he finds out about her, the more he finds himself falling in love!
Nancy Meyers directs, and Helen Hunt also stars.
Our final Car Film this week is the fourth entry of the 'Fast & Furious' franchise.
Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto and Paul Walker's Brian O'Connor cross paths once again in this new entry to the franchise, which sees the two put aside their rivalries temporarily to investigate the death of Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), one of Torreto's old gang members.
More 'Car Films' this week, with today being all about the apocalyptic classic 'Mad Max'.
In a future in which oil has become a limited resource, the world has degenerated from war and a huge rise in crime. Mel Gibson stars as Max, an officer of the Main Force Patrol, a group trying desperately to keep the peace. When his wife and child are hunted down by a gang of raiders, Max is driven on a vendetta that will see him cross the line however.
Charlotte's next Car related pick for the Film Club is 'Drive', the crime thriller from 2011.
Ryan Gosling is the mysterious Driver, a skilled Hollywood stuntman who moonlights as a getaway driver for criminals. Despite hosting a cold exterior, Driver finds himself warming to his neighbour (Carey Mulligan) and her son while not at work. However, when her husband gets free from prison and enlists Driver's help for a heist, the two will will be thrown into real danger.
Bryan Cranston, Oscar Issacs, and Ron Perlman also star.
It's time for a speedy, pulse-pounding Film Club this week, as Charlotte looks at Films featuring cars. Starting off the week is 'Speed' from 1994.
Keanu Reeves stars as a cop who must save a bus full of passengers when a bomb is planted on the vehicle that will cause it to explode if it drops below 50 miles per hour. With the help of a spunky passenger played by Sandra Bullock, will a way be found to stop the bus safely?
Along with Reeves and Bullock, Dennis Hopper and Jeff Daniels star.
On the 8th Birthday of the West Herts Drivetime show, Simon presented his choice of free-to-air movies with his usual enthusiastic gusto!

And the final environmental film pick by Charlotte this week is drama "Deepwater Horizon".
Another film based upon real events, the film follows the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, igniting a massive fireball that kills several crew members. Chief electronics technician Mike Williams (Mark Wahlberg) and his colleagues find themselves fighting for survival as the heat and the flames become stifling and overwhelming.
More Environmental themed Films this week, as today Charlotte focuses upon "127 Hours".
The 2010 Danny Boyle film is based on the real-life experience of Aaron Ralston, the canyoneer who was trapped for days in a crevice, and left with no choice but to sever his own arm.

Charlotte's Film Club continues to look at environmental themes this week, with today being all about the Great Mountain "Everest".
Released in 2015, this film is based upon the real-life stories of two climbing expeditions on the final ascent toward the summit of Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. A violent storm strikes the mountain, challenging the teams with some of the most impossible conditions imaginable.

It's a Monday, which means its time for Charlotte to set a new theme for the week! Today we begin looking at 'Environmental Films', starting with 1997 thriller "Dante's Peak".
Pierece Brosnan stars as Volcanologist Harry Dalton, who works with Mayor Rachel Wando (played by Linda Hamilton), to finally convince the unbelieving populace of a small town that the a huge event is coming one, and an evacuation is needed.When the two release the Mayor's children are still waiting on the mountainside of the active volcano, they have to race against the clock to save them.
Charlotte closes off this week of her most recently watched films with 'Rogue', a thriller from 2007.
A rugged travel-journalist joins a cruise along a crocodile-infested river, and if dealing with fellow travellers wasn't already enough, soon he must match wits against an enormous 25-foot crocodile far smarter than the average.

Today on the Film Club, Charlotte looks at 'Captain America: Civil War', the third instalment of the Captain America series released in 2016, in preparation for the upcoming release of the latest Avengers Film.
Captain America and Iron Man are forced to opposing sides as The Avengers fracture over whether they should be controlled by the government, or act under their own free will after the events of the previous films.
The expansive cast features Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Chadwick Boseman, Martin Freeman and many many more, with Joe and Anthony Russo returning to direct.

Nominated for 6 awards and the Best Picture winner of the 2016 Oscars, it tells the story of the ‘Spotlight’ team, a group of investigative reporters at the Boston Globe who uncover horrific stories of child abuse within the Catholic Church, and the Church’s attempts at covering it up.
Directed by Tom McCarthy, it stars Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Liev Schreiber, Brian d’Arcy James, John Slattery and Stanley Tucci.

To conclude a week of plot twists, today the Film Club looks at psychological thriller 'Secret Window'.
Johnny Depp stars as writer Mort Rainey, who moves to a remote cabin during the process of a difficult divorce with his wife. Attempting to recover his mental health, Rainey has the misfortune of being found by John Shooter (John Turturro), a farmer who claims Rainey plagiarized his work. At first, Rainey ignores the accusations, but Shooter has no intention of quietly disappearing.
Today's Film with a twist is 'Fight Club' from 1999.
Edward Norton suffers from insomnia and depression, and meets a strange soap salesman named Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) and soon finds himself living in his squalid house after his perfect apartment is destroyed. The two bored men form an underground club with strict rules and fight other men who are fed up with their mundane lives. Their perfect partnership frays when Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), a fellow support group crasher, attracts Tyler's attention.
David Fincher directs, and Jared Leto and Meatloaf also star.
Another classic today as the Film Club keeps looking at twists, with classic 'The Sixth Sense'.
Young Cole Sear is haunted by a dark secret: he is visited by ghosts. Cole is frightened by visitations from those with unresolved problems who appear from the shadows. He is too afraid to tell anyone about his anguish, except child psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe. As Dr. Crowe tries to uncover the truth about Cole's supernatural abilities, the consequences for client and therapist are a jolt that awakens them both to something unexplainable.
Haley Joel Osment and Bruce Willis star in this thriller by M. Night Shyamalan.
This week on the Film Club, Charlotte is focused on great Plot Twists! This week, we start with the Alfred Hitchcock classic 'Psycho'.
Secretary Marion Crane is on the run after stealing $40,000 from her employer so she can get away from her boyfriend, Sam Loomis. Traveling on the back roads to avoid the police, she stops for the night at the ramshackle Bates Motel and meets the polite but highly strung proprietor Norman Bates, a young man with an interest in taxidermy and a difficult relationship with his mother.

The final sports film of this week's Film Club is the documentary/drama "Concussion" from 2015.
Will Smith stars as pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu, who while conducting an autopsy on former NFL football player Mike Webster (David Morse), discovers neurological deterioration similar to Alzheimer's disease. Omalu names the disorder chronic traumatic encephalopathy and publishes his findings in a medical journal. As other athletes face the same diagnosis, the crusading doctor embarks on a mission to raise public awareness about the dangers of football-related head trauma.
The Film Club continues to look at great sporting flicks this week, with today's pick being "Creed" from 2015.
Michael B. Jordan stars as Adonis Johnson, who never knew his famous father, boxing champion Apollo Creed. However, boxing runs in Adonis' blood, and he finds himself driven to find the iconic Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) to be his trainer. Rocky sees much of Apollo in Adonis, and agrees to mentor him, even when faced by his own troubles. From the combined efforts of the two, Adonis' is able to secure a shot at the title, but does he have the drive to make it?
Ryan Coogler directs this continuation of the famous 'Rocky' series.
After the Bank holiday weekend the Film Club is back! This week we're looking at sporty films, starting with "Bend it Like Beckham".
Jess Bhamra, the daughter of a strict Indian couple in London, is not permitted to play organized football even though shes 18. On a day of playing a casual match, her impressive skills are seen by Jules Paxton, who then convinces Jess to play for her semi-pro team. Jess uses elaborate excuses to hide her matches from her family while also dealing with the romantic feelings she feels for her coach, Joe.

For the final episode of a week dedicated to the mythical, Charlotte looks at the sinister with the 2017 horror "The Ritual".

Continuing to look at Films starring mythical creatures this week, today Charlotte looks at "Avatar", the cgi extravaganza about the far-away planet of 'Pandora'.On the lush alien world of Pandora live the Na'vi, beings who appear primitive but are highly evolved. Because the planet's environment is poisonous, human/Na'vi hybrids, called Avatars, must link to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. A formerly paralyzed marine named Jake Sully finds himself mobile again through one such Avatar, and slowly falls in love with a Na'vi woman as he spends more time understanding their culture. However as the military plans to destroy the native landscape become apparent, Sully must choose a side.

This week the Film Club looks at Mythical Creatures of all shapes and sizes, starting with 2017's "The Mummy".
Tom Cruise stars as a soldier of fortune who plunders ancient sites for timeless artifacts and sells them to the highest bidder. During a job in the middle east that goes wrong, the ensuing, fallout leads to the release of Ahmanet, a betrayed Egyptian princess who was entombed under the desert for thousands of years. The resurrected monster will stop at nothing to get Cruise for what he has done, as she embarks on a furious rampage continuing from Egypt to the streets of London.
Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis and Russel Crowe also star.

It's a Thursday, and almost time to conclude on this week's Film Club theme, and so Charlotte concludes a week of game-themed picks with the grand game presented in "Rat Race" from 2001.
Led by a single Las Vegas Casino tycoon, a group of rich philanthropists devise the perfect game, by pitting six ordinary people against each other in a wild dash for $2 million jammed into a locker hundreds of miles away. The film tracks each contestant as they find themselves in increasingly wild and wacky situations. The only rule is there are no rules!
An ensemble cast carries the film, and includes stars such as Rowan Atkinson, Whoopi Goldberg, Cuba Gooding Jnr, Seth Green and John Cleese.
The Film Club this week is still 'Game' themed in all shapes and sizes, and so today Charlotte looks at the aptly named "Game Night".
This recent release sees competitive couple Max and Annie and their group of friends get their weekly game night shaken up when Max's brother Brooks arranges a murder mystery party, that doesn't go as planned. As the competitors set out to solve the case, they start to learn that neither the game nor Brooks are what they seem to be.
Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Jesse Plemons and Kyle Chandler are just a few of the stars in this comedy-thriller.
It's time for Charlotte to conclude this week's Film Club, and so our last animal themed Film is 1999's Lake Placid.
When a man is violently killed in a Maine lake, Jack Wells, the local game warden, looks into the bizarre case, along with Sheriff Hank Keough and visiting paleontologist Kelly Scott. Looking for clues via a large monstrous tooth found at the scene, Kelly and the others eventually locate the culprit; an enormous reptile that threatens to eat the whole town.
Bridget Fonda, Bill Pullman and Brendan Gleeson star.
Today's 'Animal' focused Film is "War Horse", a war drama released in 2011.
Albert lives on a farm in the British countryside with his Horse Joey, who he spares a special bond with. At the outbreak of World War I, the two are forcibly parted when Albert's father sells the horse to the British cavalry. Against the backdrop of the Great War, Joey begins an odyssey full of sadness and joy as he travels with the British Cavalry, while Albert tours the French battlefield, searching for his friend.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, the Film stars Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, Peter Mullan, Tom Hiddlestone, Benedict Cumberbatch and many more.
Animals are still the theme of this week's Film Club, and so today Charlotte chooses to talk about a cult classic from 2006 "Snakes on a Plane".
The Film title does a good job of summarising the story, as thousands of snakes are released onto a plane in order to kill a key witness to a crime, and FBI agent Nelville Flynn, played by Samuel L Jackson, has to protect everyone on board.
Things are going wild at the Film Club as Charlotte is setting our theme of the week as 'Animals'!
Up first is Steven Spielberg's 1975 Shark classic "Jaws".
This novel adaptation sees a town befaced by terror when a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping. The Police Chief of Amity Island, New England, finds himself coming to blows with the Mayor about the attack, as his demands to close the beach are rejected for tourist revenue, and must team up with an Ichthyologist and grizzled ship captain Quint to capture the killer beast.

To conclude this week's Film Club, Charlotte and Danny look at recent release Steven Spielberg's "The Post".
This Drama tells the historic tale of The Washington Post's in-depth coverage of leaked secrets of the Vietnam War. Katharine Graham is the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and works with her editor Ben Bradlee to expose the three decades of Government cover-ups, despite risk to their careers, and even their freedom.
Meryl Steep and Tom Hanks star as Graham and Bradlee respectively, in addition to Bob Odenkirk, Bruce Greenwood and many others.
Charlotte continues to discuss her most recent watches today with the recently released Winston Churchill Biopic "Darkest Hour".
Gary Oldman stars as the Prime Minister during the heat of the Second World War, when he finds his country faced by the unstoppable Nazi forces rolling across Western Europe, with an unprepared public, a skeptical King, and his own party plotting against him. Faced by insurmountable odds, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history.Oldman won an Oscar for his portrayal of Churchill at this years awards show!
Continuing this week's Film Club theme of features Charlotte has seen most recently, today our focus is on the latest Marvel Cinematic release "Black Panther".
After the events of "Captain America: Civil War", Prince T'Challa returns to take his rightful place as king of Wakanda, a hidden away Utopia of technology. However, following attacks from the dual-threat of Erik Killmonger and Ulysses Klaue, his capability as King and right to be the 'Black Panther' comes into question, and T'Challa must prove himself worthy of his people.
The Star-Studded cast includes Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Forrest Whitaker, Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman.
It's a Monday, which can only mean it's time to start another week of Charlotte's Film Club! This week, Charlotte is looking at a selection of Films that she has personally just seen.
The first Film pick of this week is "Veronica", a Spanish Horror released in 2017. Based upon real-life reports, the Film tells the story of a teenage girl whose family is terrorized after a failed Ouija board test is conducted during a solar eclipse.
The Film itself has even been named "the scariest horror film ever" by some critics.
Concluding a week of 'Extraterrestrial' films, Charlotte looks at another classic with Ridley Scott's 1979 'Alien'.
In deep space, the crew of the starship Nostromo is awakened from their cryo-sleep to investigate a distress call from an alien vessel. The terror begins when the crew encounters a nest of eggs inside the alien ship, and an organism from inside an egg leaps out and attaches itself to one of the crew.

Charlotte continues to look at Films of an 'Extraterrestrial' nature this week, with Denis Villeneuve's 2016 sci-fi "Arrival".
Amy Adams stars as a linguistics professor who must lead an elite team of investigators when gigantic spaceships touch down in 12 locations around the world. As nations teeter on the verge of global war, the crew must race against time to find a way to communicate with the extraterrestrial visitors. Hoping to unravel the mystery, she takes a chance that could threaten her life and quite possibly all of mankind.Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker and Michael Stuhlbarg also star. The Film won one Oscar for sound editing, and was nominated for several more.
Today's Film Club pick is "War of the Worlds" from 2005, the sci-fi disaster thriller starring Tom Cruise based on the work of H.G. Wells.
Cruise stars as a dockworker, struggling to get through to his children Rachel and Robbie emotionally following a divorce with his wife.What is expected to be a tense weekend changes as electromagnetic pulses of lightning strike the area, the beginning of an all-out alien invasion, which forces the family to free across the country in the search for refuge.
The Film Club is dedicated to the topic of 'Extraterrestrial Films' this week, with Charlotte choosing to start off with the classic that is Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey".
This enigmatic adaptation of a short story by Arthur C. Clarke looks at how a strange dark artifact ties together ancient history and the far future. When Dr. Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea) and other astronauts are sent on a mysterious mission, their ship's computer system, HAL, begins to display increasingly strange behavior, leading up to a tense showdown between man and machine that results in a mind-bending trek through space and time.
The film won an Oscar in 1969 for 'Best Effects, Special Visual Effects'.

It's Thursday, meaning its the last day of Charlotte's Spy-themed Film Club. Today Charlotte's final pick of the week is the aptly named "Spy" from 2015.
In this comedy Melissa McCarthy stars as an agent who has spent her entire career as a desk jockey even with full field training. Using high-tech equipment and a hidden earpiece, Susan is the guardian angel who helps Bradley Fine (Jude Law) avoid danger. However, when Bradley is assassinated by Bulgarian arms dealer Rayna Boyanov (Rose Byrne), Susan wrangles her way into her first undercover assignment to help capture Boyanov and avenge Bradley.
Jason Statham, Miranda Hart and Morena Baccarin also star.
More Spy films on the Film Club this week, as today Charlotte chooses stylish Guy Ritchie thriller "The Man from U.N.C.L.E" to be the point of discussion.
Set during the height of the Cold War, a mysterious criminal organization planning to use nuclear weapons to upset the world's balance of power leads to an unlikely alliance between the US and Russia. CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and KGB agent Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) are forced to put aside their hostilities and work together to stop the world from being thrown into chaos, and their only lead is the daughter of a missing German scientist, whom they must find soon to prevent a global catastrophe.
Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki and Hugh Grant also star.
The espionage filled Film Club continues again today, as today Charlotte and Danny look at 2003 spy comedy Johnny English, featuring Rowan Atkinson.
When a villain intent on stealing Britain's Crown Jewels has the country's top undercover agents murdered, mediocre spy Johnny English is the only one available to prevent further mayhem. But even with help from quick-thinking sidekick Bough, the goofy agent lands himself in one precarious situation after another. Only when he meets up with Interpol crime-fighter Lorna Campbell is Johnny able to really save the day.
Along with Atkinson, John Malkovich, Ben Stiller and Natalie Imbruglia also star.
This week, Charlotte is setting up a very secretive Film Club by choosing the theme of 'Spies'. The first pick of the week is 2004 thriller "The Bourne Supremacy".
This second installment of the Bourne action-spy series sees Matt Damon take on the role of Amnesiac assassin "Jason Bourne"once more. While hiding in India Bourne is framed for stealing millions of dollars from the American CIA, and an attempt is made on his life which kills his girlfriend instead. Vowing revenge, Bourne sets out to prove his innocence and bring the culprits to justice, but has to evade CIA head Pamela Landry who is pursuing him relentlessly.
Julia Stiles, Joan Allen, Karl Urban and Brian Cox also star.
Our Valentines themed Film Club is coming to an end! Charlotte's last lovey pick for this week is "Me Before You" from 2016.
This 2016 adaptation of JoJo Moyes popular romance novel sees young and quirky Louisa become a caregiver for Will Traynor, a wealthy young banker left paralyzed from an accident two years earlier. Will's cynical outlook starts to change when Louisa shows him that life is worth living. As their bond deepens, their lives and hearts change in ways neither one could have imagined.
Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin star as the two focal characters in this emotional romantic comedy.
The 'Love' themed Film Club continues in accordance with Valentines day, and today Charlotte discusses book adaptation "Fifty Shades of Grey".
Released in 2015, Dakota Johnson stars as college senior Anastasia Steele, who is given the chance to interview prominent businessman Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) for their campus paper, pushing her down a life-changing path. Christian, as enigmatic as he is rich and powerful, finds himself strangely drawn to Ana, and she to him. Ana plunges headlong into an affair and learns that Christian's true desires push the boundaries of pain and pleasure

The Film Club this week is still all about 'Love', continuing today with Charlotte's choice of La La Land, the 2016 musical.
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling both star as amateurs in Hollywood who have a common desire to do what they love which draws them together. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.
The Film won and was nominated for multiple Oscars, including "Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role" for Emma Stone.
We're getting closer to Valentines day which can mean only one thing! That's right, a week of Film Club themes devoted to the theme of 'Love'. Charlotte's first pick for this week is "Atonement" from 2007.
Based on the book by Ian McEwan, this English drama follows the lives of young lovers Cecilia Tallis (Keira Knightley) and Robbie Turner (James McAvoy). When the couple are torn apart by a lie constructed by Cecilia's jealous younger sister, Briony (Saoirse Ronan), all three of them must deal with the consequences. Robbie is the hardest hit, since Briony's deception results in his imprisonment, but hope increases when their paths cross during World War II.

Rounding off a week of works featuring actors who started on television, the final Film Club of this week looks at Tom Hardy in "Locke".
In this 2013 drama, Hardy stars as a construction foreman who is stuck driving in a car to the premature birth of a child resulting from an affair, and must do his best to organize his personal and professional life via phone calls, while also imagining conversations with his father.
The film only stars Hardy, but also includes the voices of many actors such as Andrew Scott, Olivia Colman and Tom Holland.
The week of actors who started their careers on tv continues again today, with none other than the iconic Fresh Prince Will Smith, and his role in 2016 drama "Collateral Beauty".
Smith stars as a New York advertising executive who suffers the loss of his daughter, and retreats from life. While his concerned friends try desperately to reconnect with him, he seeks answers from the universe by writing letters to Love, Time and Death. When his notes bring unexpected personal responses, he begins to understand how these constants interlock in a life fully lived and how even the deepest loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty.
Helen Mirren, Kiera Knightley, Kate Winslet, Edward Norton and Naomie Harris also feature alongside Smith.
The week of looking at actors who origin from television continues today. Charlotte picks "Joseph Gordon Levitt" to look at on this edition of the film club, but most specifically in "50/50".
This 2011 comedy is inspired by a true story, and centers on a 27 year old who learns he has a serious cancer case, and does what he can to fight the disease, while living life to the fullest.
Along with Gordon Levitt, Seth Rogen, Bryce Dallas Howard and Anna Kendrick star.
As its a Monday, today Charlotte sets a new Film Club theme; "Actors who started on TV". Today the focus is "About Time", specifically due to Margot Robbie featuring.
In the film, when Tim Lake turns 21, his father tells him a secret: The men in their family can travel through time. Although he can't change history, Tim resolves to improve his life by getting a girlfriend. He meets a girl , falls in love and finally wins her heart via time-travel and a little cunning. However, as his unusual life progresses, Tim finds that his special ability can't shield him and those he loves from the problems of ordinary life.The star studded cast features Domnhall Gleeson, Bill Nighy, Rachel McAdams, and ofcourse, Margot Robbie.

The week of Tom Hanks is coming to an end! Charlotte chooses to send off our Film Club this week with mind-blowing 2006 thriller 'The Da Vinci Code".
This adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling novel of the same name sees a murder in the Louvre of Paris and a number of cryptic clues in some of Leonardo da Vinci's most famous paintings point to an ancient secret hidden long ago. Hanks stars as scholar Robert Langdon, who must do everything to crack the code, despite opposition from those who wish to hide the truth.
Today on the Film Club, Charlotte picks one of Tom Hanks' most iconic roles, in 1994's 'Forrest Gump'.
The slow-witted Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks) has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and leaves a life that is anything but dull and uneventful. Whether dominating on the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam or captaining a shrimp boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism. But one person Forrest cares about most may be the most difficult to save -- his childhood love, the sweet but troubled Jenny (Robin Wright).
Robert Zemeckis directed the film, which won multiple Oscars in 1995.

Woody the cowboy doll is a kindhearted leader of the toys belonging to a young boy named Andy, but sees his position as Andy's favorite toy jeopardized when his parents buy him a Buzz Lightyear action figure. The two clash immediately, with Buzz believing he really is a space ranger from another galaxy, but must work together to find Andy when they are lost moving to a new home.
The voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen star as the iconic Woody the cowboy and Buzz Lightyear respectively.
This week, the Film Club is all about everyone's favourite actor, Tom Hanks. Charlotte spends today talking about Hanks' role in 2004 Drama-comedy 'The Terminal'.
Hanks stars as Viktor Navorski, an Eastern European tourist who arrives at JFK airport in New York as war breaks out in his country, leaving him caught up in international politics. Because of the war, the Department of Homeland Security won't let him enter or exit the United States. He's trapped at JFK -- indefinitely. While living inside the airport, Viktor finds himself falling for a flight attendant played by Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Charlotte rounds off our week of Nicole Kidman's best features with 'Lion' the 2016 drama.
Based on a true story, five year old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of miles across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty-five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.

The Film Club this week continues to celebrate the works of Oscar Winner Nicole Kidman. Today 'The Others' is the film of choice.
This drama from 2001 sees Grace (Nicole Kidman), the devoutly religious mother of two children, move her family to the English coast during World War II. She awaits word on her missing husband while protecting her children from a rare photosensitivity disease that causes the sun to harm them. When the children claim to see ghosts, Grace initially thinks the new servants are playing tricks but chilling events and visions make her believe something supernatural has occurred.
Charlotte and Danny continue the discuss the best of Nicole Kidman's works, today looking at 'Dogville'
This 2003 crime-drama focuses on a minimalist small-town setting in which a mysterious woman named Grace (Nicole Kidman) hides from the criminals who pursue her. The town is two-faced and offers to harbor Grace as long as she can make it worth their effort, so Grace works hard under the employ of various townspeople to win their favor. Tensions flare, however, and Grace's status as a helpless outsider provokes vicious contempt and abuse from the citizens of Dogville.
This week on Charlotte's Film Club, we'll be looking at the very best of Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman.
Our first film of the week is 'Moulin Rouge!' from 2001. This romantic drama takes place in the infamous, gaudy and glamorous Parisian nightclub, at the cusp of the 20th century. A young poet (Ewan McGregor), who is plunged into the heady world of Moulin Rouge, begins a passionate affair with the club's most notorious and beautiful star (Nicole Kidman).

Charlotte rounds off a week of Jack Black films with 2000 Drama/Romance "High Fidelity".
John Cusack stars as the owner of a failing record store in Chicago, where he sells music on vinyl. Although they have an encyclopedic knowledge of pop music and are consumed by the music scene, it's of no help to Rob when his long-time girlfriend, Laura (Iben Hjejle), walks out on him. As he examines his failed attempts at romance and happiness, his two friends, played by Jack Black and Todd Louiso.
Another Jack Black comedy for today's Film Club, as Charlotte and Danny discuss "Shallow Hal" from 2001.
The story revolves around Hal (Jack Black) who, taking his dying father's advice, dates only the embodiments of female physical perfection. But that all changes after Hal has an unexpected run-in with self-help guru Tony Robbins. Intrigued by Hal's shallowness, Robbins hypnotizes him into seeing the beauty that exists even in the least physically appealing women.
Gwyneth Paltrow also stars.
On this week of exploring the works of American actor Jack Black, Charlotte focuses today's Film Club on Peter Jackson's "King Kong" from 2005.
This remake of the 1933 Classic sees Black as a director from New York taking a crew of actors and sailors to the ominous Skull Island to film a new movie. Accompanying him are playwright Jack Driscoll (Adrien Brody) and actress Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts), who is soon whisked away by the monstrous ape, Kong, after they reach the island. The crew encounters dinosaurs and other creatures as they race to rescue Ann, while the actress forms a bond with her simian captor.
Andy Serkis stars as the titular ape thanks to motion capture, along with Jamie Bell, Colin Hanks and Kyle Chandler.
Charlotte's Film Club this week is all about American actor, comedian and musician Jack Black, starting off today with "School of Rock" from 2003.
Black stars as Dewey Finn, an enthusiastic guitarist desperate for work after being ejected from his bar-band. Posing as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school, he exposes his students to the hard rock gods he idolizes. As he gets his privileged and precocious charges in touch with their inner rock 'n' roll animals, he imagines redemption at a local Battle of the Bands.

Concluding the Film Club this week, Charlotte chooses to put "Justice League" into the Drivetime records.
This ensemble Superhero thriller sees Bruce Wayne inspired by Superman's selfless sacrifice in the events of the previous film, enlisting newfound ally Diana Prince to recruit a team to stand against a newly awakened enemy. However even with the united forces of Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash, could it be be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions?
Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher all feature.
Today Charlotte's Film Club looks at the next anticipated Star Wars Sequel "The Last Jedi", released in the December of 2017.
In this sequel to 2015's "The Force Awakens", Luke Skywalker finds his peaceful and solitary existence altered by the arrival of the force-strong Rey, who desires to learn the ways of the Jedi forces. Meanwhile, Kylo Ren and General Hux lead the First Order in an all-out assault to exterminate Leia and the Resistance from the galaxy.
Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega,and Oscar Isaac reprise their previous roles in the series, alongside newcomers Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio del
Toro.
Next on our week of 'recent releases', Charlotte looks at 'The Greatest Showman', starring Hugh Jackman.
Jackman stars as P.T. Barnum, in this original musical that celebrates the birth of show business & tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. Barnum comes from nothing to create a circus celebrating the extraordinary, supported by his wife and two daughters, yet never seems to be content with the fame he acquires.
Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya also star.

Monday's Film is 'Molly's Game', starring Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba. The Film tells the true story of Molly Bloom, a young Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade, her players including Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknown to her, the Russian mob.
Our final, long debated 'Christmas Film' on this week's Film Club is 'Die Hard'.
This classic action film sees New York Policeman John McClane (Played by Bruce Willis) trapped in a Business Tower block after coming to visit his estranged wife at an office Christmas party. A band of terrorists led by the malevolent Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) seizes control of the building, and only McClane can free the workers being held hostage while the police try to find a way inside.
Continuing our week of classic Christmas films, today Charlotte looks at 'The Grinch'.
Jim Carrey stars in this live-action adaptation of the children's tale by Dr. Seuss, as the reclusive green Grinch who wants to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Joined by his dog, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday-related from the Whos. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen).
In the run up to Christmas, Charlotte has set this week's Film Club theme as, you guessed it, 'Christmas Films'.
Up first is Arnold Schwarzenegger Christmas comedy 'Jingle All the Way'. Arnie plays an uptight business man who wants to make up to his son all the time he spends working. To do this, he sets out to get the hottest toy of the season, Turbo-Man -- even though it's Christmas Eve and the toy is practically sold out.
Charlotte's final Bond Film this week is 'Die Another Day', moving on from Daniel Craig's 007 to Pierce Brosnan's. Madonna created the title song for this 2002 release.
007 is imprisoned while infiltrating in North Korea, and subject to a gruelling prison sentence. Convinced that someone in his own agency betrayed him, Bond escapes from custody and travels to Cuba, hot on the heels of Zao (Rick Yune), the agent who put him behind bars. Meanwhile, Bond begins romancing NSA agent Jinx (Halle Berry) as he uncovers a scheme concocted by Zao and British millionaire Graves (Toby Stephens), involving a highly destructive laser.
Another Bond Film for today's Film Club, as Charlotte looks at the most recent expedition by the spy, 'Spectre'.
Featuring an opening by Sam Smith 'The Writings on the Wall', this film sees Bond uncover the existence of the sinister organization SPECTRE, and travelling across the globe to infiltrate it . As Bond ventures toward the heart of SPECTRE, he discovers a chilling connection between himself and the enemy (Christoph Waltz) he seeks.
Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Monica Belluci, Lea Seydoux and Dave Bautista also star.
