Ed and Kim Ryan host Beach Talk Radio live every Saturday morning at 9:00 from Fort Myers Beach. Our goal is to inform residents about the latest beach news and entertain them with our sarcastic family humor.
We had members of the Fort Myers Beach Art Association tell us about their plans for rebuilding the destroyed Art Association building and parents trying to convince the Lee County School Board to save The Beach School after Hurricane Ian.
We gave Mari and Megan another $20,000 toward the 33931 fund. Eddie Rood donated $1,700 to the fund. John King does his final interview before the election.
The team from Dry Air Restoration joined us to discuss how to remove mold from the homes on Fort Myers Beach that were severely damaged by the storm surge from the Gulf of Mexico and Back Bay waters caused by Hurricane Ian. The developer came on Beach Talk Radio Episode #63 to rip that hotel owner and call on the town to revoke his liquor license. Find out why. Mike Deardon, also known as Popeye, is the organizer of Popeyepalooza, an event that raises thousands of dollars for youth sports on the beach. Mike talks about how and why he started the event, how long its been going on and all the great items that were donated for a silent auction. He also talks about how he got the nickname Popeye and, by the way, he does a killer impersonation of the spinach-eating muscle man. Steve Maillakakis was our second guest. Stevie "The Greek" is the owner of Plaka Restaurant on Fort Myers Beach. We spoke to Steve about his great menu, the recent decision to ban vendors in Times Square and his side business -- building custom fishing rods -- called Spartan Stix. On April 23 former Fort Myers Beach Mayor and current Lee County Commissioner Larry Kiker passed away after a short battle with cancer. We interviewed Larry's wife Paula Kiker about his legacy, how she's dealing with her grief and the possibility she might run for his seat on the Commission. We also interviewed Eve Haverfield about the start of turtle nesting season and Heidi Jungwirth about her appointment to the public safety committee. Heidi ponders Ed's suggestion to use an electric fence to stop the bikers from riding on the sidewalks.
Larry Kiker is the former mayor of Fort Myers beach and Lee County Commissioner. He passed away in April 2019 after a battle with cancer.
