Maureen Barten has been a product designer, manufacturer and marketer, earning distinction on the Inc 500 list – America’s 500 fastest growing privately held corporations. Today she helps businesses and the non-profit sector to build stakeholder engagement and donor relations, returning multimillion-dollar campaigns.
She recently launched Bin Sheilas – a happy movement designed to bring a smile to people’s faces, and she’s also actively involved in the Melbourne Jewish community. All of this, plus she has survived cancer and leukaemia over the last ten years.

Both Robert and his older brother grew up as gay men in Tasmania in the 1970's. When Robert's brother announced to the family that he was gay, this not only caused a rift, but Robert kept his own secret from the family for another twenty years. At 72, Robert launched Pecking Disorder, a story about is life. We discussed his journey and illustrious career as a creative artist, actor and writer, heterosexism vs homophobia and normalising being gay in our community.

Background on Robert:Robert Moore grew up on a hop and raspberry farm in New Norfolk, Tasmania. He’s worked as a teacher, actor and community artist in South Australia for many years. He wrote, musically directed and directed plays for children and parents while teaching in South Australian schools. Robert was artistic director of Circa 1900 a community festival centred in and around historical Port Adelaide. As a pianist he has played for countless revues and concerts. In 1984 he tried to build the world’s largest liver-Largely Liver- in the Outer Harbour Passenger Terminal near Port Adelaide, but due to much artistic cirrhosis this project is in remission but will make a regenerative comeback sometime soon with the aid of today’s new technologies. Robert has worked as a performance artist. One of his most acclaimed shows was Carcass-Affirmative Action for Dead Lamb. This performance featured a combination of poetry, piano, mime and mutton. It was sponsored by Suppository International by arrangement with Scurf Australia and hit the boards after the initial failure of the liver.

Peter shares how his charity has helped many families in Vietnam and Papua New Guinea; how the funds/relief reach the local people for the purpose they’re intended; the challenges of being an Australian and learning how to best support a local community in a different country.
After witnessing first-hand the devastation of a Tsunami in Papua New Guinea back in 1997, Peter was inspired to set up his charity. He committed his time and money along with a dedicated group of volunteers to ensure that every man woman & child has the opportunity to be the best they can be in their own local environment. This is made possible through education and the availability of the basic necessities of food, water & medical attention.
“As I stood on top of the rubble, trees, rocks and silt, 3 stories high that had been cleared off the road and stretched as far as the eye could see, I looked to the heavens in utter frustration and helplessness, cursed for the little I could do - the task was insurmountable. It was at that moment I realised I had been trying to change the world and I didn’t need to – I needed to Change The One.” Peter Nicholls.

Lindsay Nicholas enjoyed an illustrious career in advertising working in Sydney, New York and Singapore. She began her business in fashion in her early 50’s, after attempting to resign unsuccessfully on a couple of occasions from advertising in her 40’s and being told to pretty much “shut up and go back to your desk”. Years later, she decided to follow her passion in contemporary womenswear.
She now designs advanced contemporary wear for women, stunning classic pieces that can be worn from work to dinner to home. She is an inductee of the Australian Fashion Council’s Curated Program in 2019 and 2020 and is leading with a label that is designed for a life time, not for fast fashion.

He now helps people redefine themselves once they’ve left their “normal” jobs or are past traditional retirement age.
