This week, I sat down with professional athlete, motivational speaker, and adventure Colin O’Brady. Colin is a 10-time world record-breaking explorer and has done it all after overcoming a devastating accident.

This week on ReDirected, I got to chat with a co-founder of Coder, Ammar Bandukwala. Coder’s three co-founders — Bandukwala, Kyle Carberry, and John Andrew Entwistle — first met online while in high school. The three were soon collaborating to build and monetize Minecraft plugins and servers, eventually moving on to a series of other projects, some successful, some not. Frustrated by the complexities of collaborating remotely on software development, after graduation Ammar, Kyle, and John Andrew moved to Austin and started Coder to create the development tools they wish had been available for them. The trio rented a building they nicknamed “The Shack,” hired a couple of developers, and got to work.

Keeping on with our Forbes 30 Under 30 series, today I got to chat with Jeremy Cai.

Jeremy is the founder of Italic, an online retailer that sells luxury goods without the brand names -- or the corresponding markup. Instead, the company designs its own products and then taps the same manufacturers used by high-end labels like Alexander Wang, Burberry and Prada to spin out brandless versions. The manufacturer sets the price and splits the profits with Italic. Italic sells 100 products, ranging from cashmere sweaters to leather wallets to 400 thread-count sheets, with plans to double its assortment by 2020. It raised $13 million in funding in November 2018.

It all started in a social entrepreneurship class at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign when Julia and Elizabeth Engele were inspired by the question "What bothers you?".

Motivated by their past experiences, MakerGirl was created to inspire young girls to pursue STEM fields through 3D printing sessions in an effort to shrink the gender gap.

Today, we are continuing our Forbes 30 under 30 series with Derrick Emsley. At 16, Derrick and his brother founded a tree planting company that was meant to capitalize on the future of sustainability: carbon offsetting credits. They planted over 150,000 trees while selling carbon offset contracts that totaled over $1 million. While carbon offsetting ended up not being the future, this experience was just the beginning of his tree planting journey. During college, Derrick worked with his fellow co-founders to start tentree, an apparel company that plants ten trees for every piece of clothing sold. Adam is a co-founder of MySwimPro. MySwimPro is a personal coach app that helps swimmers in more than 180 countries improve their performance and health by delivering personalized training plans, workouts, technique videos, and analytics.

Since its launch in 2015, the app has made something of a splash; netting more than 250,000 downloads from registered athletes. Apple Store editors named MySwimPro the 2016 Apple Watch App of the Year, and both the Apple App and Google Play Stores featured it on their home pages. They've most recently expanded the app to help those training for triathlons.

This week on Redirected, I sat down with restaurant genius, Jeremy Fall. At only sixteen, Fall became the promotions manager of Avalon in Hollywood, producing large-scale events and booking talent at the star-making venue that showcased the first LA appearances of future platinum-selling Grammy winners. It was evident that Jeremy had an eye for potential, and that ability informed his next move: turning a hidden, forsaken attic off Sunset Boulevard into a legendary pop-up nightclub called Genesis that became a permanent fixture of Los Angeles nightlife. The next venture was Golden Box, a grungy disco that nodded at the clubs that defined generations prior like Area, Studio 54, and The Limelight, the places his father grew up attending in New York. Unsatisfied with simply serving cocktails, Jeremy then sought to embrace his passion for fine, unpretentious dining by turning the well-worn brunch restaurant concept on its head: he decided to serve breakfast for dinner, but not without stiff drinks. His spiked cereal milk concept, gained national media attention and the restaurant, Nighthawk: Breakfast Bar, was featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives as well as Eater’s Hottest Restaurants In America list among others. Re-contextualizing a familiar or even nostalgic experience and giving it an elevated twist became Jeremy’s strongest hand, and he played it successfully at his second restaurant, Tinfoil: Liquor & Grocery, a modern take on the bodega with a discreet deli serving some of the most inventive sandwiches in Los Angeles featuring house-cured meats and homemade sides. Meanwhile, he expanded the Nighthawk concept nationally with a fast-casual location in Chicago while leveling up at home with Paperboy, a classic pizza joint at the highly-trafficked 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica and Easy’s, a modern take on the classic American Diner inside the iconic Beverly Center. This entire time, Jeremy never stopped thinking of himself as a curator, the guy responsible for setting the tone of an entire night by creating an experience for all of the senses. His friends in music had become global superstars and he knew there was an opportunity to marry those passions. In 2019, his restaurant group was acquired by K2 restaurants, a deal that gave him more time to focus on the next chapter of his career as he opened Mixtape, a concept that fused music with dining in a way that the city hadn’t experienced previously. He became the first food personality managed by Roc Nation (the entertainment conglomerate owned by legendary New York rapper Jay-Z).

This week, we sit down with Kevin Gould as we continue our Forbes 30 under 30 series. He is an entrepreneur, talent manager, brand builder, and active angel investor based in Los Angeles. Gould is the CEO of Kombo Ventures which operates as a holding company to its core operating divisions: talent management, a strategic creative agency, and brand Incubation. He is the co-founder of three direct to consumer brands, all of which have raised no outside capital: Insert Name Here, a hair extension and products brand launched in October of 2018 with co-founders Sharon Pak and Jordynn Wynn, previously the first two employees at Colourpop Cosmetics and ranked by Tribe Dynamics as one of the leading hair brands on social media. Wakeheart, a fragrance and scent brand aimed at Gen Z and young millennials, launched in July of 2019 and co-founded with the Dolan Twins, two of the largest digital influencers in the world with over 20 million followers on social media. Glamnetic, a magnetic eyeliner and lash brand launched in July 2019 and co-founded with Ann McFerran, a former artist and entrepreneur. Hilary Rushford was fully immersed in musical theatre. She was even on a Broadway tour, and in the Radio City Rocketts -- yeah, pretty big time. Alex was living her best life, she had the job she thought would lead her in the direction of fulfilling her dream of being on a national broadcast, and instead took a leap of faith to move to LA. Her decision to do so opened doors she never thought would be possible and has landed her a job on Access Hollywood, where she stands next to some of her role models in the industry. Alex's story is not only inspiring, but eye opening to all who are hesitant to take a leap of faith.
