Do you ever feel pressure to share the Gospel? What if that pressure that forces sharing could turn to joy?
In the second half of Luke 8, Jesus miraculously addresses the needs of people who come to him after exhausting all other options and find in the words of Peter, "Where else can we go? Only you have the words of eternal life.
We are called to put on the Lord Jesus, to conform to his image or to impersonate him. God is at work to make us like him but we are also called to actively work with him. The Holy Spirit is within us to guide us into Christ-likeness. We also need to actively put on the mind of Christ which we get from Scripture.
Romans 10:9-10 lays out a formula for salvation of confessing Jesus as Lord and believing that he was raised from the dead. Our culture has turned our words into things we say but don't really stand behind and belief into wishful thinking but that is not what Paul was talking about. He describes life-changing belief and obedience to our Lord even at great cost. Works of obedience do not earn salvation but they are a natural consequence of saving faith.
From the end of Romans 8 through 9, Paul launches into a series of hypothetical questions and answers regarding God's justice in calling some and not others.
The law of the Spirit of life has set us free from the law of sin and death but what does it look like to live according to the Spirit rather than living by the flesh. Jesus give us an example
Sin and death hold mankind captive. We cannot escape their power. In his resurrection, Jesus demonstrated that the power of death was overcome and confirmed that the debt of sin was paid in full.
We have been set free from bondage to the Law but how are we to live in light of our continued struggle with our sin nature? By the law of the Spirit.
Romans 1-4 reveals God's righteousness and man's sinfulness. There is no apparent reason for Abram to be selected. God's call was not "fair" from a human perspective. Jesus alone is the author, founder, and perfecter of our faith. Righteousness is found in Him alone - by faith in him.
