We are called to put on the Lord Jesus, to conform to his image or to impersonate him.  God is at work to make us like him but we are also called to actively work with him.  The Holy Spirit is within us to guide us into Christ-likeness. We also need to actively put on the mind of Christ which we get from Scripture.

Romans 10:9-10 lays out a formula for salvation of confessing Jesus as Lord and believing that he was raised from the dead.  Our culture has turned our words into things we say but don't really stand behind and belief into wishful thinking but that is not what Paul was talking about.  He describes life-changing belief and obedience to our Lord even at great cost.  Works of obedience do not earn salvation but they are a natural consequence of saving faith.

Romans 1-4 reveals God's righteousness and man's sinfulness.  There is no apparent reason for Abram to be selected.  God's call was not "fair" from a human perspective.  Jesus alone is the author, founder, and perfecter of our faith.   Righteousness is found in Him alone - by faith in him.
