In this episode, Lila tells us about Theodora, Empress of the Byzantine Empire and controversial figure both then and today.
Then, Christian educates us on Dr. Janaki Ammal, the brilliant scientist from India who went on to become the first woman to receive a PhD in Botany in the US, created a new crop to feed India, and later became a critical voice for nature and the environment.

In honor of the one-year anniversary of our first episode (and our hiatus during the first part of summer), we're coming back with our Summer Fun Series! These will be relatively shorter episodes with no guests, no gimmicks, just some great Women's History stories.
For this episode, Christian presents the biological curiosity that is Mitochondrial DNA, and how its unique qualities gives an interesting slant to the intersection of genetics and Women's History. Lila then goes through a few famous women entrepreneurs from the industrial and post-industrial era, including Madam C.J. Walker and Madonna!
