A letter to the community from Abolish Stanford Greek in The Stanford Daily: "It’s time to end Greek life at Stanford"

Abolish Stanford Greek is a growing coalition of Stanford alumni, students and faculty committed to ending the presence of Interfraternity and Inter-Sorority Council Greek chapters on Stanford’s campus. After years of inadequate reforms and burdensome efforts, predominantly led by BIPOC, FLI, and LGBTQ+ Greek members, we are organizing to abolish this system which was designed to institutionalize privilege and divide us. Abolish Stanford Greek is asking supporters to sign on to the open letter, which has amassed over 500 signatures from alumni, students and faculty. Additionally, the campaign is asking current ISC/IFC members to deactivate and vote within their own chapters to disband. Abolish Stanford Greek is also collecting and publishing firsthand, anonymous stories from students and alumni for its Instagram account to shed light on the widespread harm Greek life has inflicted upon the Stanford community over the years.

This week, Ken Der and Ishan Gandhi take A Deeper Look at student advocacy for campus workers with Students for Workers' Rights member Armaan Rashid '22. Take a listen as we talk about the goals of the small organization and the current projects they are engaged in. With coronavirus on the minds of many, this past Tuesday at the Bechtel International Center, health economist and Senior Fellow at Stanford's Freeman Spogli Institute Dr. Karen Eggleston gave a crash course on the background of coronavirus and the efforts in the medical field to solve the global crisis. Devon Ryan of Stanford's Woods Institute for the Environment, and Sunnyvale resident (and KZSU'er!) Stephen Kuryla join Ken Der and Ishan Gandhi on the show this week to discuss the past, present, and future of the General Use Permit (GUP). The GUP was a 2.275 million-square-foot development planned by Stanford that would have included new academic and housing facilities for students, faculty, and campus workers, but was ultimately withdrawn in November 2019 by the University after numerous obstacles. Devon and Stephen talk about the complications and the road ahead for the GUP.
