Today, Dion van Breda teaches from Hebrews 12 about the importance of keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, and not on our circumstances.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and wsin which clings so closely, and xlet us run ywith endurance the race that is zset before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. 4 In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

Today Dion van Breda's message is based on Acts 27: 27 - 28: 5. Using the story of Paul's voyage to Rome, and the challenges he faced on the way, Dion explains how our hope needs to be anchored in nothing and no-one but Christ, if we are to gain victory over our circumstances.27 On the fourteenth night we were still being driven across the Adriatic Sea, when about midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land. 28 They took soundings and found that the water was a hundred and twenty feet deep. A short time later they took soundings again and found it was ninety feet deep. 29 Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight. 30 In an attempt to escape from the ship, the sailors let the lifeboat down into the sea, pretending they were going to lower some anchors from the bow. 31 Then Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay with the ship, you cannot be saved.” 32 So the soldiers cut the ropes that held the lifeboat and let it drift away.
33 Just before dawn Paul urged them all to eat. “For the last fourteen days,” he said, “you have been in constant suspense and have gone without food—you haven’t eaten anything. 34 Now I urge you to take some food. You need it to survive. Not one of you will lose a single hair from his head.” 35 After he said this, he took some bread and gave thanks to God in front of them all. Then he broke it and began to eat. 36 They were all encouraged and ate some food themselves. 37 Altogether there were 276 of us on board. 38 When they had eaten as much as they wanted, they lightened the ship by throwing the grain into the sea.
39 When daylight came, they did not recognize the land, but they saw a bay with a sandy beach, where they decided to run the ship aground if they could. 40 Cutting loose the anchors, they left them in the sea and at the same time untied the ropes that held the rudders. Then they hoisted the foresail to the wind and made for the beach. 41 But the ship struck a sandbar and ran aground. The bow stuck fast and would not move, and the stern was broken to pieces by the pounding of the surf.
42 The soldiers planned to kill the prisoners to prevent any of them from swimming away and escaping. 43 But the centurion wanted to spare Paul’s life and kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land. 44 The rest were to get there on planks or on other pieces of the ship. In this way everyone reached land safely.
28 Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta. 2 The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold. 3 Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. 4 When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.” 5 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. In today's message, Dion van Breda teaches that part of our identity as Believers is that we are citizens of Heaven, and that God is our King. In Him, we have an eternal dwelling with Christ forever!
For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. There is an age-old question, why did Judas betray Jesus? In this message Dion looks at several reasons for this and brings it close to home. This challenging message reminds us that we are either heading towards Christ or away from Him. May we say yes to Jesus today and follow Him wholeheartedly.
Ephesians 3:14-19
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
When we face troubling times will we be able stand strong in the faith? May our lives be deeply rooted in Christ.

Part 1 of our new evening preaching series looks at the accuracy of Biblical prophecy from the Old Testament to the New.
We gain strength and encouragement when we spend time in community with other believers. It is essential that we become devoted to the teaching and fellowship that the Lord has given us through our gathering together as the local church.
What is the vision and function of the local church in extending the Kingdom of God? This sermon looks at the 4 phases of the Believer in the church.
Prayer is most definitely a weapon—a mighty weapon wielded by believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Hear what the Bible says:
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil … praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:11, 18).
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (2 Corinthians 10:3-4).
Ephesians 6: 18 - 20 According to Paul, all of life is spiritual warfare. In that conflict, he reminds the Ephesians that—important though it is—the Christian armour is not enough on its own - as Believers we need to be in constant contact with God, and the means by which we stay in contact is by prayer and time in His Word.
Spending time in the presence of Father God in prayer and in the Word enables us to discern our own hearts and God’s will. That won’t happen in a moment, but in the constant, repetitive, and faithful reading of God’s Word, and regular, faithful time in prayer.
"It is not that God can’t work without our prayers, but that He has established prayer as part of His plan for accomplishing His will in this world." (Focus on the Family)
2 Timothy 3
"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3: 14 - 17)
All of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, points to Jesus, the Messiah.
The fulfillment of prophecy is what makes the Bible unique among all other books!
Isaiah 46:8-10 (NIV) “Remember this, keep it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels.
Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’"
How do we represent Christ well? And how do we bring His message of reconciliation to the world?
2 Corinthians 5: 18 - 21 (NIV)
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
Are our lives abundant? Are we reaping the rewards of following God's way of life?
Only when we regulate our days according to God’s priorities and learn to focus on Jesus will we begin to realize what Jesus meant by the promise of John 10:10.
Romans 6: 1 - 4
What then shall we say? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may increase? Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live in it any longer? Or aren’t you aware that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We therefore were buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.
"God would take on human flesh and invade His sin-broken world with His wisdom, power, glory, and grace. But He wouldn’t descend to a palace. Instead, the Lord Almighty, the Creator, the sovereign King over all things would humble Himself and take on the form of servant; He would live on our behalf a life we could have never lived, He would willingly die the death that you and I deserve to die, and He would rise from his tomb as the conqueror of sin and death."
What a MIGHTY GOD we serve!
Our church members use their spiritual gifts and talents regularly. Today we want to thank everyone at City Base Church who use their spiritual gifts and talents regularly to serve the church and extend the Kingdom of God. The body of Christ needs every member, and we are thankful for all of those who use their gifts faithfully.
1 Corinthians 12: 12-23 - One Body but Many Parts "There is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body. It is the same with Christ. We were all baptized by one Holy Spirit. And so we are formed into one body. It didn’t matter whether we were Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free people. We were all given the same Spirit to drink. So the body is not made up of just one part. It has many parts.
Suppose the foot says, “I am not a hand. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body. And suppose the ear says, “I am not an eye. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, how could it hear? If the whole body were an ear, how could it smell? God has placed each part in the body just as he wanted it to be. If all the parts were the same, how could there be a body? As it is, there are many parts. But there is only one body.
The eye can’t say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” In fact, it is just the opposite. The parts of the body that seem to be weaker are the ones we can’t do without. The parts that we think are less important we treat with special honor."
Revelation 2: 1 - 7
As the church of Jesus, we need to shine brightly as examples of holiness, so that the world will be drawn to us, and through us to God the Father.
Revelation 2: 4 – 5: “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.”
Matthew 16: 24 - 26
"Take up your cross and Follow Me"
This is what true discipleship is all about. It is a life that you live daily, following after Jesus. What did Jesus do in His daily life? He took up His cross and denied Himself.
Taking up your cross daily leads to transformation. You won’t always be the same person you are today. As you are cleansed from sin, the fruit of the Spirit come in its place. Rather than being quick to judge and critical, or grumpy and downcast, you can radiate love and kindness and gentleness. Isn’t that hopeful?
How Do I Know I'm Really Saved? This is such an important question that it deserves a careful answer. “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12). Our salvation depends solely on the person and work of Jesus Christ.
