Someone told me once that I could never learn a language well enough unless I immersed myself in a study abroad program overseas. Well, besides English, I speak Spanish, Portuguese, and am learning Italian. I read a little bit of French and Romanian as well. The kicker is that I've never traveled out of the U.S. When I started my journey there were no social media support for black women learning languages. Initially, I had no emotional nor financial support either. I had to figure it out. Once I did, I moved on to the next language goal. Here's to language learning on a budget!
