I am a self-taught artist who started painting after my mother passed away in 2005. I was so distraught over her death that I needed to find a way to channel my grief. So I purchased a canvas and paint and started to create my feelings on canvas. It was very therapeutic for me. However, prior to this I was always involved in the arts. I gave numerous art exhibits showcasing the works of nationally renowned artists at various venues in the state ofDelaware. I also owned an art gallery that I opened with my husband in the late 90's..This was during the evolution of African American art in this era. Even though I come from a corporate background (having retired from JPMorgan Chase in 2019).

I've always been extremely fascinated by the visual arts.I just didn't realize how much I would come to depend on it as a way to channel my grief until my husband passed away six months ago. His death caused insurmountable pain and even though I'm still mourning his passing just being able to ease my pain a little with the stroke of a paint brush kind of puts me in a place of peace.

Dr. S. Ama Wray – Performance Architect

Dr. S. Ama Wray, TEDx Speaker, has been performing, teaching and choreographing across 3 continents for over 30 years, performing and touring with London Contemporary Dance Theater and Rambert Dance Company across the UK, USA and Europe. As founder and Artistic Director of JazzXchange Music and Dance Company she was Artist-in-Residence at The Royal Opera House and Southbank Center, UK. Improvisation, often seen as the dominion of jazz music is also synonymous with creativity and in 2021, she has launched a new program to bring this insight into the lives of everyday people through a body mind practice called JiM™ - Joy in Motion. This work emerges out a methodology she created known as Embodiology®. It originates from a study of improvisation identified within West African performance practices through which six principles were identified and iteratively tested in western performance contexts to attain their performance efficacy. Committed to recognizing these origins her organization gives royalties back to the rural community with whom she studies Ewe dance and music. These principles are now being translated and applied to illuminate different areas of human communication, across fields such as medical humanities, music, leadership, child development and somatic coaching. Recent publications include chapters in British Dance, Black Routes and The Oxford Handbook of Improvisation. This virtual iteration, developed during this COVID-19 pandemic, led her to provide services to the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, at the University of California Irvine. A former National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts Fellow (NESTA), a UK version of the McArthur Awards, she began her exploration into performance and technology through a concept known as Texterritory produced by Future Physical. These digital terrains continue to be explored through AI 4 Afrika, an initiative she co-founded with choreographers, data scientists, artists, scholars, and entrepreneurs in 2020. Alongside artistic practice she continues her intellectual pursuits, receiving the African Diaspora Emerging Scholar Award from the Comparative International Education Society in 2018. As a public intellectual she has been an invited speaker for the United Nations, Dance/USA, Princeton University, Temple University, University of Wisconsin-Madison; Atlantic Center of the Arts, Florida and New Waves! Institute, Trinidad & Tobago.

Physician, trauma-informed wellbeing strategist, media figure and four-time bestselling author Donna L. Hamilton, MD, MS is among the countries most innovative health and well-being leaders. Now, Dr. Donna® consults and speaks internationally, teaching practical strategies about becoming healthier in a way that addresses your unique needs. She’s on a mission to help everyone function at their best physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually so that we all live the healthy, satisfying lives we’re meant to lead.

Her engaging, wholistic, and trauma-informed courses and coaching inspire clients to gently take action and achieve their goals for having a happy, healthy mind, body, spirit, and life.

Featured Guest:

Kyrin Dunston MD With a successful career in the medical field, family vacations, a house in a gated community, new cars and a beautiful growing family, from the outside I looked like I had it all. But on the inside, I was dying. Any spare hour I had was spent sleeping. I was tired, overweight, and my hair was falling out. I was depressed, anxious, and lacked self-confidence. I had stomach issues and low libido.

I felt broken, defective, frustrated, and like a complete failure. As a doctor, I was giving out advice to my patients for their health problems when I couldn’t even solve my own. Nothing I tried worked, and I didn’t know where else to turn. All the knowledge I’d learned in medical school was failing me and many of my patients as well. I was losing hope.

Then one day a patient with all the typical health problems came in to my GYN practice. I prescribed her the usual protocol and didn’t see her again until a full year later. When she returned, she was like another person. It was clear to me that her health had improved unlike many of my other patients who went on year after year just as sick as the first day I saw them.

I asked her what she did, and her answer surprised me. She said she decided not to take the medication I prescribed her, and instead she looked into ways she could solve her problems naturally. She began taking some herbs and vitamin supplements, and her symptoms disappeared, her energy returned, and she looked so full of life. I knew I had to learn more about what she was doing.

On a Saturday morning after meeting with this patient, I finally began my research into functional medicine, and for the first time in a long time, I felt hope. I knew what I was reading was truth. Treating the body as a whole and finding a root cause to health problems rather than just treating the symptoms made sense. The science was undeniable. I had to try this out for myself.

Starting with my own health, I began to learn functional medicine first hand by running my own hormone and thyroid tests at home. I quickly discovered that I had thyroid, progesterone, and low cortisol issues, so I began to address them with herbs, vitamins, and supplements. I later did stool testing to find out what was causing all my stomach issues. After my results came back, I was able to pinpoint the best diet for my digestive system. I took the next steps making appropriate diet changes, and the pounds began melting off, my energy came back, and my self-confidence returned.

My patients noticed the changes in me and began to ask what I had done. That was when I knew I couldn’t continue running my practice the same way I always had. The results I’d experienced through functional medicine were revolutionary compared to anything I’d ever seen or experienced within the conventional medical system. Long story short, I closed my GYN practice and opened a functional medicine practice so I could help my patients achieve the same radical results I had.

It wasn’t long before people from all over the country wanted to work with me, so I decided to take my practice to the web so I could work with my patients virtually and in a way that is convenient for them. That is when Her Brilliant Health was born.
