Alexandra Levit is the author of the international bestseller They Don’t Teach Corporate in College: A Twenty-Something’s Guide to the Business World. Her latest book Humanity Works reveals what the 'robot takeover' will really look like, helping you prepare for the possibilities of the future. She is an influential thought leader on career and workforce trends who has been instrumental in developing and promoting proprietary research on the future of work, the millennial generation, gender differences and bias, and the skills gap. Back in January of 2020, how many of us could honestly have foreseen remote work being on the horizon? Alexandra did. A pandemic, and all the workplace transitions that came with it, was the furthest thing from everyone’s minds. But not hers.

“Remote work was an example of a trend that I’ve been looking at for about 10 years where I knew that this was going to take off eventually.”

As a work futurist and an avid researcher, Alexandra saw the inevitable change in the status quo, and prepared for it. She saw past the immediate panic over transitioning to online and envisions the natural next step in business progression: hybrid workplaces.

Laurence Jackson is a line producer’s assistant on the Netflix original You. He also produces SAG short films on the side. After a few “career restarts” Laurence is finally working in his dream environment.

He encourages others to follow suit if they have a passion or dream.

“If you have a passion, persevere.”

Laurence created his first film with his digital camcorder when he was 14 years old. When he arrived on his college campus and realized it didn't have a film program, he took matters into his own hands. Laurence created a film club in which he wrote and filmed his first feature film, Hollow, during his freshman year.

The movie had a message for college students who were struggling to find their way. After debuting the film at UMD’s theater, Laurence was flown out to UC Irvine to show the film there too. One student said that he saw himself in the film and it made him realize he didn’t know who he was but that he wanted to figure it out.

This experience fueled his passion and his career journey from working as an IT auditor to entering the film world.

Find out how Laurence persevered to follow his passion working in the film industry!

The CEO of Empowered Living, a multi-time TEDx speaker, host of The You-est You Podcast and the author of the Get a PHD in You series, Julie Reisler helps YOU discover what lights your fire for your life.

After graduation from the University of Rochester with a double major in Psychology and Public Health, she worked for Hillel. While running an international social justice program with Hillel, she visited a Panera (only 9 locations at them time) and was drawn to the community surrounding the restaurant.

Julie recalls having an “inner wisdom thought” that told her to apply to work with this company. She sent in her resume and got a position as a manager—she was told to work for 5-6 months to learn operations and corporate will see if they have a position with them. She worked with Panera for 11 years and became the Director of Recruiting and Guest Relations. Her biggest take away from this experience is to trust your gut and make opportunities for yourself if you don’t see one available. “Opportunities are everywhere. This [Panera job] didn’t exist, this wasn’t a position. I just trusted my intuition.”

While working with Panera, she got her Masters in Health and Wellness Coaching and Nutrition while still working full time and creating an intensive personal development program and becoming the head coach. Julie had a “light bulb” moment that told her to chase her passions for coaching. “I wanted to something where I was on fire about my purpose and passion.”

She eventually left Panera to follow her passion full time and begin a podcast, write two books and further her career as a coach. “When we are listening and tuning and creating from that place passion and purpose that's really where the magic happens.”

After hearing Julie’s story of chasing passions in a nonlinear career path, take a quiet moment to focus on what is your purpose. What lights your fire? What can you create to help others?
