My relationship with singer songwriter Lyndon Morgans is a few years into it's 'fifth' decade, having (like many other rock pub goers in London in the late seventies) accidentally happened across a golden moment of post punk creativity known at the time as 'Sad Among Strangers' π This conversation simply represents the wonderful passing of time in great company! In October 2018 I took a journey into Bristol, not very interesting in itself perhaps but that journey made a whole year before I started the #WeAreTheWeather podcast marked a number of discoveries that have helped to shape my life since π Chance metings, times for reflection and of course, that which shines through to save the day in the face of adversity (of which there was an abundance that day!) π In this episode I also talk around the subject of why healthcare and particularly 'essential dentistry' should always be centered around actual patient care rather than trusting to just one opinion in our semi privatised, profit lead system where we are shuffled around in set 20 & 40 minite appointments! I have always believed that 'essential' dentistry should be free! π The UK's system is a strange mixture indeed and has, as things do, become accepted over the years! We trust a dentist, they continually book appointments for us and we dutifully pay them! But did you know that a secret world of FREE, patient centered, expert dental care ACTUALLY ALREADY EXISTS and is potentially available if you are prepared to travel to your nearest teaching hospital. "The Rise of the community shed" gives an introduction to how groups of people, chatting and being respectful to each other 'over a cuppa' (tea / coffee etc) has helped many deal with their darkest moments in life & why we should all spread the word that adults are allowed to have fun too! (In fact, it should be compulsory!) Β Anyone dealing with some of the more serious issues raised in the show will find some helpful links at the end of this description. Β I touch on the urgent need to grow this movement across the pond in the USA. Β To that aim, The US Men's Shed Association is a good start. Honesty With Love π is a phrase that I use often. It was passed to me by a chance meeting ten years ago. Alistair The Optimist is a band, a way to live through adversity and, was a fine and talented human too!
